cdj's NCAA Football 12 Coaching Carousel Journey

With rosters out (thanks, BigWY!), I am going to start my Coaching Carousel journey in NCAA Football 12.

    Career Record (OC): 10-6
    Career Record (HC): 0-0

    Year School Pos Record
    2011 Utah State OC 6-6
    2012 Baylor OC 4-0

This year, I am going to try and make the ultimate journey - go from a 1-star program to a major program and win the National Championship.

I enter this with no set rules on the jobs I can or cannot take. My belief is that I will have my own dilemma in deciding whether to stay at a program to establish a legacy or jump job to job towards a big program.

Right now, I am using 7-min quarters on AA. The journey will begin at Utah State. Their DC (Bill Busch) also has Nebraska as his Alma Mater so it will be fun to monitor his career as well.

My Contract Goals with Utah State:
    Spoiler: show

    Spoiler: show

    Fail Impact Goal Pass Impact
    500+ rushing yards each season

    2012 Contract Goals for Baylor:

Feel free to post any comments.

Utah State 21, FCS MW 11

    Aggie Stats
    Total Offense: 335
    Rushes-Yards-TD: 31-111-1
    Passing: 9 of 20, 224 yards, 2 TD
    3rd Down: 2 of 11 (18%)
    Turnovers: 2 (1 Fumble, 1 INT)
    Total Yards: 388

It was a struggle, but USU was able to grind out a W.

Utah State 34, FCS West 7

    Aggie Stats
    Total Offense: 451
    Rushes-Yards-TD: 29-141-1
    Passing: 15 of 27, 310 yards, 4 TD
    3rd Down: 4 of 7 (57%)
    Turnovers: 4 (1 Fumble, 3 INT)

Despite the picks, it felt like my offense finally got into a rhythm in the second half of this one.

Looks like the passing game started to click a little bit that second game.

Something registered there. Big jump, and a little balance in the O too.

The funny part is that my best player (RB) got hurt on the very last play of game one for four weeks, so game two came with a back-up RB.

You only had 24 yards of passing week one?

    Aggie Stats
    Total Offense: 462
    Rushes-Yards-TD: 26-157-2
    Passing: 17 of 32, 305 yards, 2 TD
    3rd Down: 4 of 12 (33%)
    Turnovers: 3 (1 Fumble, 2 INT)
    Total Yards: 554

The run game stalled out in the second half, but the passing attack kept USU in it. A couple dumb passes killed drives that could have ended in FGs either forcing a tie or giving USU the win. A tough loss to take.

I meant to look last night and right now and forgot. I'm pretty sure that's a typo. My passing struggled in game one, but it wasn't that bad!

    224.

Next game is at 0-4 BYU. The loss to CSU gave me a slight fail impact for losing to a lower ranked team. It dropped me but the DC and HC went down by much more.

    Turnovers: 3 (0 Fumble, 3 INT)
    Total Yards: 363

Again, some bad passes doom USU despite the offense looking solid at times. I may start playing my mobile back-up QB more and try to open things up that way.

    Pretty encouraging, but disappointing loss.

Before the game, I did some work to my custom playbook - adding in some new formations and taking out some unused plays. The run game opened up as a result (especially in the second half), but the passing game was pitiful. USU rallied from 21-0 down to tying the game on a 2-point conversion with less than a minute to go. Unfortunately, FS drove down to nail the GW FG with :01 remaining.

Ouch....tough one. That would have been a landmark win in your first season as OC.

Actually added Maryland I which helped. Shotgun Short Snap also has some nice run plays.

prob should replace 1 of my 4 I formations with the Maryland I, I dont use it a whole lot but mix it in some. I have done most my running out of the SG or pistol in my CC dynasty.

I'm slowly (OK, maybe quickly) evolving my offense into a two-back power rushing attack. The passing game had been committing too many turnovers and some new formations are opening up the ground game.
