IGN Article: Improvements to Madden NFL 12's Superstar Mode

IGN just posted a write-up on some of the changes and improvements for "Superstar" mode in Madden NFL 12: http://go.ign.com/mU8niW

They say football is all about "team," but who doesn't come into the NFL dreaming of being a superstar? Developer Tiburon is hoping to make gamers feel like gridiron studs with some long-overdue improvements to Madden's Superstar mode.

Superstar puts you in the cleats of your own created character, just as it has the past few years, but now you have real control over your player's destiny. Gone are the arbitrary attribute bumps, the pointless practices, and the feeling that you're working towards nothing more than the next game.

The whole point of taking over the career of a single player is that you're going to raise that player from practice squad walk-on to Hall of Famer. And a big part of that experience is being able to choose how your player improves and the type of player you become.

Superstar mode is now built off skill points, which you can spend however you like -- focus on speed and spectacular catch ability for your player or dedicate yourself to becoming a powerful possession receiver. Points are earned for your performance on the field and for completing practices, but those points are never tied to any specific stats.
Hit the link to read the rest of the write-up and visit the image gallery for new screenshots from "Superstar" mode. Apparently IGN will also be posting a write-up talking about some of the "Franchise" mode improvements for Madden NFL 12 tomorrow as well.

And some stadium model overhead shots that were put out on April 28th but I hadn't noticed until now:

The changes they made makes it sound a LOT like 2K's My Player in the NBA series.

I'm not a basketball guy so I've never played the NBA 2K series; I have certainly heard good things about their "My Player" mode, however, and if the details of Madden NFL 12's "Superstar" revisions echo that, it can only be a good thing for football fans who want to take their own player to the Hall of Fame.

My only question--based on the article--would be whether or not a Road to Glory player in NCAA Football 12 could be transferred into Superstar for Madden NFL 12. Based on what is written in the article--which, admittedly, I'm taking with a grain of salt because it's IGN--it sounds like you create from scratch or choose an existing player only. Maybe they're just not ready to reveal any information about interconnectivity yet.

If it's like 2k's My Player mode for NBA 2k11, I'll be buying this game as well. I never play anything besides Franchise and My Player mode anyway.

I have to agree. If they made some real, actual, great changes to Franchise mode, between that and Superstar (if they did indeed model it after, or at least similar to My Player from NBA 2K11), I'll buy Madden 12 solely for those two modes.

Never played Superstar but if they could find a way to make it feel like franchise mode I may consider it as a side project.
