Yeah, .jpgs create artifacts even at the highest of qualities. PNGs look true to the original pic you saved, keeps colors correct, and is smaller file size wise
I think this is the best one I've done so far. Like Dmo said, you can't get better if you don't keep trying to make covers.

It was pretty good.
Doesn't look like you color corrected, there is some discoloration on the helmet. I would've erased the mask picture on the left a little more at the bottom to blend it. I would've also flipped the background mask since he seems to be going the opposite way of how it is now (I think of the background as motion streaks so I put them the way I think the player is going).
Other than that I thought it was well done

It's a tedious task (although I actually like it) but it really separates your covers from the amateur and the 'pro-looking' ones. It's such a small element but it makes your effect look better and your cover look more official. Especially because HDR plug ins usually boost color saturation it is important to correct these color mistakes. Plus you make the picture more color accurate than the original itself.
Actually elaborate on this, what are you looking for exactly? A classic feel to the cover or just "Classic Edition" written on the cover somewhere.
