The latest Game of the Week Preview highlights the defending National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide traveling to Fayetteville, AR to face the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Razorbacks relied on the hot hand of QB Ryan Mallett in a big road win at Georgia last week, while Alabama welcomed back Heisman Trophy winner RB Mark Ingram as they routed Duke. An Arkansas win may vault Mallett towards the top of the Heisman Trophy list and put the Razorbacks as the SEC front-runner. Should Alabama win this hostile road game, they may strengthen their already strong hold on the #1 spot.

This week's Game of the Week follows the College GameDay crew to Auburn, Alabama for Clemson at Auburn. Each program finds themselves in a state of rebuilding.

Clemson's Dabo Swinney took over the reigns of the program midway through the 2008 season following the resignation of Tommy Bowden. Swinney has a 15-8 record (9-4 ACC) as Clemson head coach.

After being one of the most heralded assistant coaches in the country, Gene Chizik spent two years as head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones. In his time at ISU, Chizik went just 5-19 and left in controversial fashion. In his first season at Auburn, Chizik and the Tigers went 10-5 with an exciting Outback Bowl victory over Northwestern.

The weekend may not contain huge top ten showdowns, but there are many match-ups that will help clear up the Top 25 picture. Nebraska travels to Washington to face their first BCS conference foe of the season, Iowa and Arizona battle in the desert, Texas Tech looks to pull another upset against Texas in Lubbock, and Wisconsin looks for an impressive home win to prove they are worthy of the top ten.

On a weekend filled with big games - Florida State at Oklahoma, Miami at Ohio State, Michigan at Notre Dame, Oregon at Tennessee - our Game of the Week Preview highlights Penn State visiting the defending National Champions, Alabama in a battle between two of the most storied programs in college football.

Penn State started Robert Golden at quarterback - the first true freshman to start at QB for the Nittany Lions in Joe Paterno's 45 year career - and led the team to a 44-14 win over Youngstown State. While the team trailed for much of the first half, they pulled away by scoring 41 unanswered points.

Alabama will take the field in their first real test as defending National Champions. In their season opener, the Crimson Tide looked impressive in routing San Jose State 48-3. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner RB Mark Ingram did not play versus the Spartans as he recovered from arthroscopic knee surgery and may not play versus PSU. Defensive end Marcell Dareus sat out after being ruled ineligible for two games due to accepting improper benefits from an agent. The losses did not hurt the talented and loaded Alabama roster.

College Football is Here! Another season kicks off tonight and with it a new feature here at The Gaming Tailgate begins. Each week of the season, we will use NCAA Football 11 to preview & sim the top Game of the Week. The biggest game on the schedule to kick off the season is Boise State vs. Virginia Tech in a game to be played at FedEx Field in Washington, DC on Monday night.

The Broncos enter the game with a 14-game win streak and have prevailed in 26 of their last 27 games. A win versus the Hokies in what is sure to be a hostile environment and virtual home game for VT would put Boise State in position to contend for the National Championship. A loss all but ends those hopes.

The Hokies enter the 2010 season on a five-game win streak after three losses in 2009 by a combined 18 points. Despite being a top ten team, they are not on many expert's short lists to contend for the National Championship and a win here would change that quickly. To say this is a huge game for both teams would be an understatement.

The two teams will be wearing newly unveiled Nike Pro Combat uniforms. See them in advance here: Boise State - Virginia Tech

Yesterday, we looked at Team Pitches when Recruiting in NCAA Football 11's Dynasty Mode. Today, designer Ben Haumiller shares with us his commentary on how the default Team Pitch ratings are determined.

Every year we take a look at the ratings from the previous year and look to see what makes sense to change for this year. Most of these are 100% perception, but a few of them have a pretty easy way to determine the ratings. When determining the ratings, a most of the time the decision comes down to how we feel a school would treat that pitch when recruiting for/against a particular school. For example, Florida’s Program Stability rating took a big hit this year. That was partly because of the number of assistant coaches that left the program this off-season, but also in a large part because of Meyer’s mini-Christmas breakdown. There’s not a coach in the country that won’t attack that angle until he proves it was a fluke moment. Conversely, when Coach McMackin is sitting in a kid’s living room trying to convince him to come to Hawaii you better believe he’s talking up the concept of living in Hawaii for 4 years as a great reason to become a Warrior.

NCAA Football designer Russ Kiniry has posted a new blog discussing changes to online ranked games, issues accessing online dynasties, and an upcoming patch.

    From Russ:
NCAA Football 11 fans have provided a ton of feedback this year, and since the release, we've been working hard here at Tiburon to address your top concerns. Near the top of the list of feedback we've gathered is how wins and losses are tracked in Ranked games that end in the first half.

Our objective has always been to make our leader boards free of cheaters. It was with this objective in mind that we previously changed the system so it does not award wins or losses if someone quits before the first half is over. However, as of the server maintenance this morning, we've changed how wins and losses are tracked once again. Now, wins and losses are counted regardless of when you (or your opponent) quit the game. If you jump out to an early lead and your opponent quits, you will still receive credit for the victory.
