During EA Play 2017, Madden NFL 18 revealed "Longshot", the first story mode to be a part of the Madden NFL franchise.

Longshot is led by an impressive cast: J.R. Lemon (The Night Shift) as Devin Wade, Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, House of Cards, Moonlight) as his father Cutter Wade, Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights) as his friend Colt Cruse, and Dan Marino (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) who will serve as Devin's mentor. It also includes Chad Ochocinco and NFL coaches & players.

In development for the last four years, the mode will play out as an interactive movie with influence from the Telltale Games series. There is no hub or in-mode interface for users, but rather the player will go straight from cutscene(s) to gameplay. Users will play high school, college, combine, 7v7, et al. but will not play as Wade in an NFL game. Once the mode ends, users will receive rewards and content for use in Madden Ultimate Team.

Worth noting in the trailer is the inclusion of college football teams, namely the Oregon Ducks and Texas Longhorns. As of this time, it is unknown if additional college teams will be the mode and if the user will be able to spend significant time playing as either.

(Sidenote: How or why did EA pick these two schools? Neither the Longhorns or Ducks are represented by the Collegiate Licensing Company. Texas left the CLC in 2005 and signed a ten-year deal with 289c Apparel as their official master licensee for retail needs. Oregon signed a seven-year partnership with Fermata Partners to serve as the University’s first-ever trademark licensing agency in 2014. This leads to a series of questions of which we may never know the answer: Did part of the NCAA Football settlement restrict deals between EA & the CLC? Is it easier to reach a deal with schools not part of the CLC? Is there bad blood between EA and the CLC? Does this begin the road towards the return of NCAA Football and college gaming?)

Today at EA Play, NBA LIVE 18 Executive Producer Sean O'Brien unveiled some of what the development team has been working on in the two-year hiatus since the release of NBA LIVE 16 - "The One," a single-player career mode where users can choose their own path between playing in The League or in The Streets as they work to establish their legacy.

The One will also include Live Events, which appear similar to those found in Madden NFL Mobile and NBA LIVE Mobile. These will be uniquely crafted events that will unlock rewards for the user.

No cover athlete, cover art, or release date have been announced of yet for NBA LIVE 18. A demo will be released in August.

Ahead of EA PLAY - and presumably a forthcoming cover athlete announcement - additional screenshots, brief game clips, and an interview with Producer Mike Mahar have provided more information on NBA LIVE 18. Some of the most noteworthy items:

    - Like the previous YouTuber/influencer event in Los Angeles, attendees at the recent NYC soiree were able to share 'exclusive' screenshots and quickclips of the title. One such video from QJB showcases a shot and early celebration from Kevin Durant, dribble moves from Steph Curry, the Drew League venue, and images of shoes in the game, et al.

    - SLAM Online interviewed Producer Mike Mahar to discuss the game. According to Mahar, the two main areas of focus for NBA LIVE 18 were core gameplay and The One, a new feature coming to the title.

    - According to the NBA LIVE website, the game will only be available on PS4 & XB1. There was some speculation and rumors that the game would be available on PC. That appears to be false.

Last night in Los Angeles, EA SPORTS hosted a private event featuring NBA LIVE 18. Held at the Siren Soundstage Studio, the invite-only soiree appeared focused on media and YouTube content creators and included NBA LIVE 18 signage, a swag box featuring sneakers, a barbershop, a face-scanning rig, and a basketball hoop for attendees to practice their shot.

The theme of the event centered around "The One," seemingly either the central marketing/promotional theme for the title and/or the name of a new game mode. Some signage at the event appeared to say 'One Career,' perhaps indicating it is the name of a new single-player or career mode.

Other prominently displayed signage appeared to include images of Anthony Davis (potential cover athlete? Displaying improved facescan/graphics?), outdoor venues, and a logo for 'The League' (perhaps another new mode or an aspect within career mode?).

An off-screen shot of the game shows LeBron James and the Celtics' Avery Bradley. The first official release of game information is expected, but not confirmed, to come anytime between now and June 10th's EA PLAY event in Los Angeles.
