The 2016 season is underway! Discuss it here!

The Astros opener at Yankee Stadium has been pushed to tomorrow, due to inclement weather. I'll have to watch on the DVR tomorrow because I will be away for work until probably an hour or two after the game starts.

I'm home today, of course. :fp:

Anyway, I'm super excited for the upcoming season. This team is capable of very special things for years to come. But, with SI picking them to win the World Series and MLB The Show 16 rating them as the best team in baseball maybe they are doomed from the start, lol.

Personally, I think they'll win the AL West (which could be very competitive) and be a major force in the playoffs.

Go Astros!

The Rockies will win the WS. They have to, since the Broncos won the SB. It's that simple.

First inning of the second game of the season and Carlos Correa just hit his second home run of the season. :))

Trevor Story has been RIPPING it to start the season for the Rockies.

steelerfan
04-07-2016, 03:48 AM
How about those Padres? They've been shut out in all 3 of their games so far.

Can the Rockies keep that streak intact? I'm looking at you, Smooth.

SmoothPancakes

God willing. Took two of three from the Diamondbacks to open the season, including lighting up Greinke for 9 hits, 7 runs and 3 home runs in just four innings pitched on Opening Day.

And they also have Superman. Trevor Story has made MLB history, becoming the first player to hit a home run in his first three career MLB games.

Including his two home run season and career debut in the opener, he's got four jacks in his first three career games to start the year.

If he can keep up even a tenth of this hot of a start, Rockies fans will be saying Troy Tulowitzki who?

The Cubs are on pace for 162-0 :D ;)

SmoothPancakes

Well, the Rockies shit themselves against the Padres. However, the kid is still on fucking fire. Trevor Story breaking records yet again as the first player with a home run in the first four games of his MLB career, as well as the first player in at least 100 years, if not ever, to hit 6 home runs in his team's first four games. I like this kid!

SmoothPancakes
04-10-2016, 07:32 PM
After finally be held without a home run Saturday, Trevor Story came back today and jacked number 7. He is now the first player in MLB history to have 7 home runs through his team's first 6 games.

To put it in perspective, Trevor Story has more home runs by himself than 16 other teams.

Tigers starting out well. Payroll a hair under $200M. One local beat writer only predicted 84 wins. That's too low I think. The bullpen is still a question mark but with Zimmerman they have three very good starters barring injury. And their line-up is strong and should score a bunch of runs. Should be a good season for them. I'm expecting 90+ wins. Anything short of making the playoffs would be disappointing. Illitch stretches the payroll to give him a shot at the WS before he dies.

Cubs look great to start the season. It's a bummer that they lost Schwarber for the year, but thankfully they have outfield depth.

Boy the Astros are a hot mess. Starting pitching is terrible, bullpen is shit, offense is mediocre, they can't get any hits with RISP, baserunning is awful and defense has let them down too.

Other than that, they've been ok!

Can't believe it either, figured they'd be set up well this season.

Cubs are killing it so far. Hard to believe both Chicago teams are two of the best in baseball right now (with Washington in between).

Might be the first time the Astros have ruined anything this season. Can't believe how underachieving they are.

They seem to be back on track. Before Sunday they were on a 7-game winning streak and were 3 games over .500. Going into today they were just 1.5 games out of the Wildcard. I still think they'll make the playoffs.

That said, yeah, they've struggled this year.

steelerfan

Since starting 17-28 the Astros are 26-9 to get to 6 games over .500.

Tonight's 5-0 win over the White Sox opened a 10-game home stand that will see the M's and A's come to town after Chicago. Could be a big opportunity to beat up on some lesser teams going into the break.

Correa is heating up.

Ventura could get canned for the Sox collapse.

Stupid Indians. The Tigers only have themselves to blame for Cleveland being in first since the Tribe has dominated them this year. I think they are 9-1 against them. Long game with Jay's yesterday.

Actually just checked, it's 9-0 Indians against Tigers this season. Detroit still hasn't beaten them this year.

Next chance is Monday, 10 more games between the two this season. 19-0 for the Indians? :)

Wow. That's even worse. Tigers have a few too many holes. If some veterans pick up their play like Upton and Sanchez they could make a run but right now this is an 85 win team.

Last year's 2nd overall pick Alex Bregman will debut tonight for the Astros. Bregman will play 3rd and bat 6th. He will reportedly play LF tomorrow and DH on Wednesday.

The Astros are the hottest team in baseball, posting a 37-16 record since they fell to a season-worst 11 games under .500 with their 17-28 start. Now at 54-44, they trail the Rangers by just 2.5 games.

Go Astros!

People are losing their minds over this down here. People who have never even attended a Zephyr game (the previous team name) are upset about the name change. It's obviously not the best but it's definitely unique. Tailgators was my choice but like America, the worst choice won the vote so oh well. I wouldn't go to a game regardless of the name (as I detest baseball).

Good luck to Verlander in Houston! Hope he gets a ring. Tigers are in full rebuild and got 3 good prospects back. I think Tigers are paying $16M of his salary. Kind of bought the prospects. Tigers are still in trouble with Miggys contract which is the worst contract in sports if he keeps hitting like this season. Maybe a move to DH will help.

Tigers moved Uptons contract which wasn't bad. Zimmerman has a lot of money left and after his arm issues he is simply garbage.

The Rockies fought back repeatedly throughout the night and refused to give up, but hard to win games when your pitching is getting fucking lit up every inning.

Verlander has been fantastic. Really hoping he gets a ring. I hope that’s a trade that works out for both teams. Altuve is fantastic. Have to wonder how many balls Sanchez is not going to handle at home. That’s twice in this series where a runner was out by 15feet and he couldn’t handle the short hop. Not an easy play but his glove isn’t good.

Pitching should favor the Yankees tonight but Houston is 5-0 at home in the postseason and the home team is 6-0 in this series.

Thank god. If I had to watch the Yankees and the cock gobbling Dodgers in the World Series, I as gonna be pissed. Hell, I probably would have skipped the World Series entirely in that case.

At least now I have a team I can actually root for. Astros just better not suck it up, I want nothing more than to see those jizz guzzling ass spelunkers from LA lose and cry.

Also, either someone fucked up the script or Nostradumbass was just wrong again. So much for his many theories in the past of wanting the big name, big city teams in the championships. Perfect opportunity to have Yankees vs Dodgers, New York vs Los Angeles, East Coast vs West Coast, current New York team vs former New York team.

Or unless that was the script, and then they changed it because of the hurricanes and so now Houston is being gifted a World Series because of all the pain and suffering they went through. But then what about Florida? Tampa Bay, Miami or Jacksonville Super Bowl? Or what Puerto Rico, surely they deserve some sporting championship. Maybe one of these leagues can announce an emergency expansion team in PR and they can win a championship right away.

Alright, now my brain hurts. It's incredibly painful trying to think like Nostradumbass does.

As a non-Astros fan, I'm happy as hell. Going into the playoffs, the teams I wanted to see win the World Series, in order, were the Rockies, the Indians, then the Astros.

Really, those were pretty much the only teams I cared to see win this year, outside of maybe a surprise run by the Twins or something.

And George Springer is the World Series MVP. After tying the WS home run record, that MVP pick was not at all a surprise, he pretty much had it locked up even before tonight.
