Some good news for Duke Nukem fans...it looks like there is a rumor that Borderlands developer Gearbox is working on completing this game!

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/08/dnf530pxheaderimgnumber2.jpg

According to unnamed sources speaking with Kotaku and "claiming to have knowledge of the situation," development on Duke Nukem Forever is continuing -- until completion -- with Borderlands developer Gearbox Software. Stranger still, the sources also claim that a "playable demo" will be distributed at some point "later this year." While Take-Two confirmed that it retains the rights to DNF, it didn't offer any comment on the matter.

Gearbox head Randy Pitchford couldn't say anything either, but did note that he might be able to "better clarify the situation" at this year's PAX Prime. Duke Nukem creator George Broussard declined to comment as well. Although this is most certainly a "rumor" for now, we'd still like to wish Gearbox the best of luck over the next 15 years.

Why?

Make Borderlands 2. Don't make this game. Jeez...

Didn't you ask why I was happy about NBA Jam? It's the whole early gaming days nostalgia for me, I'd LOVE to see a next gen Duke Nukem, especially if it is made from Gearbox.

On top of that I'm sure they have different development teams to be able to do both at the same time. Trust me, Borderlands 2 is currently being developed now, but they still have DLC for the first game to come.

Yes, I agree. The nostalgia factor is definitely there for me as well. I played the hell out of the fps Duke Nukem as well as the platformers before that. I totally get that, but this game is SO FAR beyond vaporware, it's not funny.

And while, yes, I'm sure they have different teams working on this game and Borderlands 2, you have to think, the resources that they are going to use to even make the game halfway good would have to be pretty significant.

I REALLY hope they are starting from scratch or something, otherwise, they are wasting their money and time cause the game is no where close to being finished from everything that I've seen and it's pretty much a mess as they've changed engines like 5 or 6 times during it's development.

So yes, I get the nostalgia factor very much so, but I think it's a horrible idea for a company to try to do anything with this game. It can't possibly turn out well for them unless they start from scratch, which doesn't sound like they are doing from the article.

Why do I feel like there weren't too many hot girls at PAX to fill out those cutouts?

Unfortunately it looks like all Gearbox after they bought it was say "ok, wrap up anything they were working on and we'll ship it as is"... personally it doesn't look worth $60 or anywhere near it.

Lots of Duke Nukem coverage on GametrailersTV last night. The sex/mature gags are in there ... plenty of them, at that.

Well it is.....Duke NukemYeah, but this is the type of thing that I wouldn't have been surprised to see it toned down after as long as it was in development and with the changes in society that we've had since. But glad to see it in there.

There might actually be more gags in this version than the previous.

Not a surprise, really.

GT.TV revealed that
you start the game by playing as Duke playing his own video game, starting with one of the levels from Duke Nukem 3D
I thought that was a pretty cool/smooth move.

Downloading the "First Access" demo for PC now. I have really low expectations for this game but I'll report back with my feedback.

Just played through the demo and it's lived up to my expectations... it's quite awful. Poor mechanics, poor gameplay, poor animations, poor interactions, same cheesey dialogue from first one... pretty much same exact dialogue. It's really quite bad and the only thing it has going for it is nostalgia and it tries to drive that into the dirt. I really wouldn't pay more than $10 for it which it will almost definitely be $10 by the time Steam Christmas sale comes around. I sincerely hope no one had high expectations from this one because you'll almost definitely be sorely disappointed.

EXACTLY what I figured. The fact that they didn't update ANYTHING from what had already been done told me that. You're playing a game that's basically 10 years old.

Joystiq has a video run through of the demo for anyone that wants to experience it second hand for themselves.

As expected, not glowing reviews for it.

I'm still going to get it eventually, sounds like the price will drop sooner than later. Hopefuly now Gearbox can eventually make one from scratch that will seem to be a little better. I recently just played Duke Nukem 3D on XBL, and still really enjoy it, so I have a feeling this game will be in the 70 score range for me as well.

I was tempted to pick up the Balls of Steel Edition when I went to pick up Alice but then I remembered how much it sucked. If the BoS Edition ever hits $40, that will be my sweet spot.

I've heard it really bad, but, I haven't actually tried it out to see for myself. Of course, I never much cared for the original that much either. I was always more partial to the Duke Nukem sidescrolling games myself.

People just loved to pile on this game just for the hell of it. Is it dated, yes. Is it groundbreaking, no. If you're a Duke Nukem fan will you like it, yes.

Seeing that I said I would get the Balls of Steel Edition when it hit $40, I obviously lied. It's been $40 for a few weeks now and I still haven't gotten it. $20 is my new sweet spot on that, and although I've heard it's horrible, I think I can justify spending a $20 bill on it.

I Have the game for 360 and it blows. I thought it would have been a fun game but it feels just like all the others I guess. Not much into the game at all. Next I go to town I'm trading it in for something better maybe dirt 3 or something. Doubt I will get much for it unless some one wants a trade for it ?

You'll get like $2, if that. GS is selling used copies for under $8 now. I've never seen something drop in price so quickly.
