Let's start this thread off with a great one:

LeBron James was just quoted as saying "It doesn't matter if my mom is on the floor, I'm going to dominate."

Mother's Day can't come fast enough :smh: :D

Me too! I'll be tuned in tonight! Tempted to get the ala-carte 5-team package, because with as bad as I fear the Celtics will be, they may not be on TV much this year.

Ex-ball boy to auction MJ 'Flu Game' shoes (http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/9970496/michael-jordan-sneakers-flu-game-auction-former-utah-jazz-ball-boy)

A cool part to the 1998 "Flu Game" I didn't know about:

Truman, who was an 18-year-old ball boy for the Jazz during the 1996-97 season, told the Tribune that he granted a pregame request by Jordan when the Bulls were at the Delta Center for a regular-season game in November 1996.

Jordan was upset that he did not have any applesauce to eat prior to the game, prompting Truman to race through the arena in search of the pregame snack, according to the Tribune.

Truman told the paper that he returned to the Bulls' locker room with an industrial-sized can of applesauce for Jordan, who said, "You came through," and later rewarded the ball boy with a postgame autograph.

Well, one thing is for certain, he will never be the same player for the rest of his career. After going through everything with his ACL and whatnot in his left knee, finally making it back, only to fuck up his right knee, he will never be the same from this.

Atta boy Adam Silver. He threw the hammer down on Donald Sterling. LIFETIME ban, $2.5M fine, forced to sell team.

I didn't know if he could legally force to sell the team, but thankfully it looks like they can. That will save the Clippers franchise because no one would have wanted to continue to play for the Clippers.

skipwondah33

Yeah nobody would have wanted to play for them...just like it use to be in their past losing ways.

I never considered him getting a ban. Thought the worse they could realistically do was suspend him or fine him the equivalent of a penny dropped into the ocean.

On another note I didn't think people still felt the way that he apparently did..that's crazy.

He can't force the sale but, apparently, there's a board that can. Silver just recommended that they do it.

The shame is that all this talk the past week has been Donald Sterling. He should have been out of the league years ago due to the housing discrimination and the comments they had on him back then. Sadly a man who was a polar opposite of Sterling passed away and the coverage has paled in comparison (http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10851183/dr-jack-ramsay-father-friend).

Pretty easy to see why we live in such a fucked up society.

I think you're late. That's one of his baby mama's....she had his kid in December 2010.

There is some speculation he is reaching Shawn Kemp levels of child-rearing productivity (http://blacksportsonline.com/home/2012/03/dwight-howards-secret-baby-mamas-hope-alexatiffany-render-maybe-more-photos/):

That is 3 kids by 3 mothers (2 kids conceived within 3 months) confirmed, 2 more kids by 2 mothers unconfirmed, possible total of 5 kids by 5 different mothers, 1 girl calling him Daddy as late as December 2011 and an upcoming R&B singer as a girlfriend.

Who knows how many additions to his offspring have occurred since then (article from March 2012).

I always chuckled when fans cried that the NBA draft lottery was rigged. Now I'm becoming a believer. For the second year in a row and the third time in four years, with only 9th best chance at 1.7%, the Cleveland Cavaliers somehow get the #1 pick yet again. Dan Gilbert is either sucking someone's dick at NBA headquarters or he's bending over and letting someone stick it up his ass to be getting such impossible results as the Cavs have gotten the last four years.

Isn't that nearly every team except San Antonio?

Certainly the Lakers and Celtics weren't building those great teams via the draft that won the titles in the 2000's. All came from FA or one sided trades.

No coincidence the Spurs have the best coach and organization in basketball.

No coincidence the Spurs have the best coach and organization in basketball.

the only true key outsider the Lakers ever got was Shaq. Magic and Kobe their most prominent pieces were drafted. any other examples are players that were there for a long time or free agents or trades that became role players if not really successful ,important role players.

bought vs built is kind of lame considering how long the current heat have been together for 3 seasons. Riley is just as smart as the Spurs organization. adding 2 key pieces is not the same as if you had added 4 pieces that had never been there before and won that way.

the Celtics are kind of the only team that applies to that idea I suppose..LOL I don't know ?

Yeah. Kobe being brought to the Lakers meant absolutely nothing. The only rings that have been won in the past 15 years that were teams bringing in big free agent acquisitions were Boston and Miami and no team winning a championship has had such massively huge acquisitions in free agency as Miami with Lebron, mainly because, before him, superstars didn't move teams in their prime very often. Really, the last big player movement before him was Shaq to the Lakers, but that was a Lakers team with nobody at the time getting a big free agent acquisition, not a team with a legitimate shot already getting a surefire superstar acquisition.

This Miami team is unprecedented.

skipwondah33
06-04-2014, 08:49 AM
still doesn't fall under a prominent free agent being bought idea, thank youTrades don't count either?

The Pau Gasol trade was interesting for LA. So was their trade with Miami dealing O'neal for Odom, Butler and a pick. Both teams *won 3 titles among the two. LA had another haul the year they nearly got swept in the Finals. Granted they signed older players but those older players weren't brought in to be cheerleaders either.

My view of building is drafting and developing. San Antonio's core was all drafted and developed. All but Diaw, Belineli and another I can't think of probably.

The Thunder had this same opportunity.

Boston's team was unprecedented before Miami came along.

Read this from Zach Lowe

Something always goes wrong in the AT&T Center. The wireless access didn’t work last season in Game 3, forcing the league office to send an emergency tech crew ahead of Game 4. There was a weird fly infestation during last year’s Finals; the flies almost chased Udonis Haslem out of an interview during one shootaround.

I don't agree with his viewpoints but the way this all came down on him I have a problem with. The social media/big brother-1984 way it happened etc.

I heard that the Dallas owner hired a private to investigate the league and its referees (how they officiate games) and he was told by the private that he had a valid lawsuit if he wanted to go ahead with it but he obviously didn't want to alienate the ol' boy network and his cash cow

Ram, Cuban did that investigation after they lost in the Finals in '06 and the officiating that series.

And the NBA, Stern probably have more dirt on Sterling than he will find on them.

However they may not want disclosed something that they let slip in the past.

And the Spurs are playing absolutely beautiful basketball. Not surprising the way they are playing. Popovich is the best coach in the game and has had an eye for resting/perserving and getting his bench ready for these very games all season long, really for the past 3 seasons.

They have Miami looking lethargic, tired and slow...which may be the case but they are multiplying it.

I'm no Heat hater and don't have a rooting interest but Duncan has been my favorite player since Wake Forest and glad to see him likely win one before retirement.

Nah. The shelf life of LeBron's supporting cast was clearly two years. It's over Sunday. True

Heard a stat they have played something like 86 games in the post season alone past 4 years

They remind me of that Lakers team that got nearly swept by the Pistons. Lakers looked old, slow and uninterested that entire series. They were older to begin with.

Think that was their 4th Finals in 5 years or something like that. Then they had those old heads on the team,,, Malone and Peyton, Horace Grant

Yeah IF Lebron wants to win more titles he needs to leave Miami. The Heat are now old/slow and have virtually no threat at the PG position. Interestingly, he probably has a better chance in Cleveland to win more titles than he does in Miami. If Lebron went back to Cleveland + Kyrie + this year's #1 pick (Parker, Embid or Wiggins) would be a pretty tough Big 3 to beat for the remainder of Lebron's career.
