Beat me to it. :D

Was just about to post the same. Lots of games I'm looking forward to this weekend. I'm focusing and keying in mainly on the five games I bolded Thursday and Saturday, the rest will be games I'll flip to during commercials or at halftime to check out what's going on. Sunday and Monday I'll probably end up with all of the games on, focusing mainly on Colorado-Colorado State. Unfortunately, once again, no Friday games for me, since I'll be stuck at work until at least 11pm, if not midnight, Eastern, due to HS football starting back up, and thus stuck in a studio all evening.

Rooting for you guys to win the opener because the next three games are just brutal and all on the road. Who the heck thought scheduling Nebraska, Arkansas and Boise St all on the road was a good idea?

And yet souljah was complaining about Southern Miss playing a slew of non-conference money games during one of my seasons at Tulsa in my dynasty. :D

Yeah, we gots to get paid. We had Boise St. at home last year and it was one of our "better losses." I'm confident that the new regime can restore some of our lost pride from last year. After a certain point last year, I actually wanted us to lose. 2-10 or 1-11 just doesn't have impact as 0-12. It stopped hurting halfway through the season and it just became funny with each loss.

That sounds like a great trip! I love where I live now but I will miss being at the games in the fall. I do plan on going to a few Griz games here in town but I know it won't be the same.

On their level they look good from what I understand. Couple years ago they got blown out by a 5-7 Tennessee I think. I am going to try to attend the home opener against Appalachian St. Saturday.

Posted this in the Discussion thread earlier, meant to post it in here.

Damn! I almost had it perfect. My dynasty game, Utah State at Utah, Utah led 14-10 in the second quarter, before a field goal with one second left cut it to 14-13 Utah at halftime. The real life Utah State at Utah game, Utah was leading 14-10, Utah State facing third and goal, with 20-some seconds left. Utah State ended up scoring a touchdown on the play to take a 17-14 lead with 20 seconds left until halftime, but damn, talk about almost perfectly nailing the halftime score. :D

As for the game itself, fuck. One shanked extra point, and Utah State loses 30-26 to Utah in the Battle of the Brothers. Nick Diaz (USU kicker) is not going to be too popular in the locker room and around campus for the next week. Of course the defense didn't help for shit either. I lost track of how many dumbass penalties the defense committed (USU committed 7 penalties for 95 yards overall), and then two fumbles by the offense (one lost), just sank the opportunities. I will give Utah credit for one thing, the onside kick they kicked and recovered in the third quarter, that they proceeded to steamroll the USU defense and take a 24-23 lead. That was ballsy. But it paid off.

On the Tulsa front, wow. A horrible, horrible night for Tulsa. Came to Ohio and got bitchslapped 34-7 by Bowling Green. :fp:

Old Miss/Vandy was a great game. Wish Vandy had won but hats off to that WR who went from puking his guts out to almost saving the day for Vandy with a big catch in two plays. Fresno St/Rutgers looked like an NCAA 14 offensive classic but did not get a chance to watch. Got out first FCS upset with Towson beating UConn.

Looking forward to TT/SMU and especially NDSU/KSU tomorrow night.

Very NICE! I too have a new "project" for this season of NCAA football. All my parts came in last night via Fedex ground. All that's left to do today is take the CO2 bottle in and get it filled for $9.

Last night during half time of the NC vs SC game I drilled the hole in the front of the used frig I bought off of craigslist, installed the valve and drip tray, then drove to the liquor store and picked up the keg. I was going to go with Coors Light for $99 but they had Shiner Bock on sale for $105. :))

This is going to be a GREAT YEAR for some College Football.

Ribs are in the frig, ready to start the BBQ pit early Saturday morning for a good long smoke, I figured I needed a real beer frig to keep me busy while the ribs are slow cooking. I use the top freezer section for the frozen mugs.

The Ole Miss vs Vandy game was awesome, great game to the last minute. It was wild how crazy excited Vandy was at the end when they scored, then BOOM 2 plays later and a 75 yard TD run, they were in shock. I've been there before, crazy emotional rollercoaster....

I'm seriously considering picking up a 360 just for the access to WatchESPN.

I should have known better, but I was hoping Xbox live counted as having a TV service provider.

I guess I'll probably take the 360 back tomorrow.

I had a feeling the game would be a good one but THAT DRIVE. Just sticking to their offense going 18 plays, 80 yards and 8:30 long. It was a thing of beauty.

Exactly. It truly was. That's the kind of football I love to watch. We'll have to see, I may be willing to subject myself to the abuses of NCAA 14 (in its current state) if I keep seeing some damn great football games this weekend. Had Utah-Utah State last night and now North Dakota State-Kansas State. Tomorrow, I'm expecting some great action between Boise State-Washington, Mississippi State-Oklahoma State, Alabama-Virginia Tech, Clemson-Georgia, LSU-TCU, even Northwestern-Cal. Then Colorado-Colorado State and Louisville-Ohio on Sunday, and Florida State-Pittsburgh on Monday, I should be in a major college football mood, that I could possibly overlook some of the crap in NCAA 14 and actually have some fun with it again.

I know SMU is not exactly a world beater but it was fun to see Texas Tech Walk-on Freshman throw for 400+ yards and score 5 TD's. At this rate Kingsbury might just start every year with a Freshman QB. ;)

Score another "W" for the FCS. Samford beat Georgia St.

Were the texas tech unis some sort of throwback to the SWC days? It's wild how they were the away team, and their team colors are red and black yet they were wearing all white? Was that an old SWC uniform?

Nope, it was their new uniforms for this year. No primary red in the uniforms for the team named the Red Raiders. Tuberville brought back the throwback White Helmets for awhile but they were not used last year.

Only two days into the new college season, and we're already up to 4 FCS victories over FBS teams. North Dakota State beats Kansas State, Samford beats Georgia State, Southern Utah beats South Alabama and Towson beats Connecticut. 4 FCS victories in only two days is impressive. Granted two of those four came again Georgia State and South Alabama, but still, impressive. I wouldn't be surprised to see another FCS team score an upset today.

Right....

I'm here to tell ya, I've been a Kyle Field Usher for the last 3 seasons, well this year I said no thanks and wanted to watch the games at home. Well, I'm really disappointed in ESPN. My wife likes to watch all those drama shows like "real housewives bs..." ESPN was really disappointing today. I don't think it's cool that JFF picked up a personal foul with 10:59 to go in the 4th but at 5min to go in the 4th they were STILL harping on it, and when #10 for A&M was kicked out of the game for fighting they didn't even mention his name or show a replay, it was like it didn't even matter. They were so preoccupied with JFF they failed to actually report the real SPORTS that was happening live. For the first time in my life time I was disappointed with ESPN. It seems more like a drama TMZ channel than a sports information channel. He picked up a personal foul, big deal, MOVE THE FREAK ON, there is still a LIVE football taking place.

The good news is the keg was cold and the ribs have turned out GREAT.

Texas A&M 1-0.

Agree 100%, we did have multiple starters on D not playing, which was a game-time call, as far as I knew it was only going to be 2 D starters but it was much more.... but YES we need to figure out the middle, Rice was running at while on us.

I was really pleased with Bielema's 1st game as Head Hog. I have a lot of respect for Louisiana and expected them to move the ball and score a lot more than they did. It was nice to see that Bielema & Ash have the D looking better. I really liked the game plan that Chaney & Pittman put together.

Unless some SEC-W teams implode, 7 wins will probably be the ceiling for Bielema's 1st season. I liked what I saw today.

Well, my prediction of another FCS upset today hasn't been too far off. West Virginia only beat William & Mary 24-17, Illinois only beat Southern Illinois 42-34, Boston College only beat Villanova 24-14, Eastern Michigan only beat Howard 34-24.

For games still in action, Oregon State is only beating Eastern Washington 46-43 with 20 seconds left (EWU on the OSU 2), Eastern Illinois is leading San Diego State 19-13 in the late 2nd quarter, Northern Iowa is leading Iowa State 21-14 in the late 2nd quarter.

Yeah. Granted some of these games were probably contracted a couple years ago (not sure how far out one needs to contract with a FCS team), but teams like Eastern Washington, North Dakota State, Appalachian State, Villanova, if you're not just straight up damn better or damn ready, they're gonna shock you.

Those four teams for instance, have combined for four of the last five FCS national champions (Appalachian State 2005-2007, Richmond 2008, Villanova 2009, Eastern Washington 2010, North Dakota State 2011-2012). They may not play regularly on the FBS level, but they do have talent and know how to win. And #25 Oregon State and Kansas State found that out the hard way this weekend.

While scheduled years in advance there are certain teams that are consistently good FCS teams and should be avoided. The above teams plus off the top of my head Northern Iowa, Delaware, Montana, Georgia Southern and Sam Houston. Don't schedule them.

Do these dumbasses not know how to dive? Washington chucks one up in the end zone, the ball is literally just outside the reach of the receiver's hands, what does he do? He pulls up, slows down, pulls his hands in towards his body and just watches the ball land in the end zone. A simple dive and he would have easily been able to catch that ball for an incredible touchdown, one that would probably make the overnight highlight reels. Instead, nope, just gives up and watches it fall incomplete right in front of him. :fp:

Oh yeah, Northern Iowa has been pulling upsets or near upsets for years now. It was just last year or not long ago that they nearly knocked off Iowa (and actually did one year I think). Iowa State is learning that lesson the hard way right now. Navy's been bit or nearly bit by Delaware a couple times in the last half-decade. Of course, Navy keeps scheduling Delaware (they play on September 14th this year). :fp:

Yeah, there are a number of FCS teams that you just don't schedule unless you're Alabama or Ohio State. Anyone else, you're better off scheduling a bottom feeder from the Sun Belt or MAC.

Smooth's week 1 take...

Washington looks much improved over last year's team. Lost to Boise in the Las Vegas Bowl 28-26, this time around, they whooped Boise's ass 38-6. As long as they don't have a letdown during the season, we could see an 8-10 win Washington this year.

Boise State could see a little bit of a letdown this year, with as much as they've just been getting rolled over by Washington tonight. They should still end up with a good record, as Washington is the toughest team on their entire schedule. However, if they have taken a step back, Fresno State, Utah State, and Nevada will be right there to challenge them for league wins. BYU could also end up a victor.

Nevada meanwhile will not have a great record to start, playing at #21 UCLA this week and at #11 Florida State in two weeks, but they've put up a fight against UCLA and should be a good team in conference play.

Nebraska better hope they just came out straight up flat and went through the motions today, or that Wyoming is really damn good this year. With UCLA in two weeks, a three week stretch in November of Northwestern, Michigan and Michigan State, hell, even the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State could put up a fight in three weeks, Nebraska better get things sorted out.

West Virginia also better light some fires under their asses this week. Trailing 17-7 at halftime and escaping with a 7 point win over an FCS team that went 2-9 last year, it could end up ugly for the Mountaineers next week at #16 Oklahoma.

Southern Miss, the suck continues as they blow it against Texas State. 0-4 looks like a certainty with three straight road games at Nebraska, Arkansas and Boise State over the next three weeks. At that point, they'll be on an 0-16 slide, and hoping just to even get back to a .500 record, they'll have to hope Conference USA is a cakewalk for them.

FCS teams. This has already been touched upon in this thread, but FBS teams need to stop scheduling top level FCS teams if they want these "automatic wins" for $750,000-$1 million each year. These top level teams, Delaware, Eastern Washington, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, Villanova, Montana, Sam Houston State, Georgia Southern, they're all playing for a FCS national championship year in and year out. They're basically the Alabamas of the FCS level. They're damn good, they're talented, and they're out for blood each week. Add in playing on the road at an FBS team, possibly a ranked one, and the chance to make headlines and highlight reels by knocking off these FBS teams, and that's just more fuel on the fire.

You need look no further than this first weekend. We already had four FCS upsets on just Thursday and Friday alone, before the meat of opening weekend even arrived. Add in today's games, we're up to 8 FCS uspets in the first three days of the 2013 season. Eastern Illinois over San Diego State, Northern Iowa over Iowa State, Eastern Washington over #25 Oregon State, McNeese State over South Florida, Southern Utah over South Alabama, Towson over Connecticut, Samford over Georgia State, North Dakota State over Kansas State.

Add in near upsets by Liberty against Kent State, Howard against Eastern Michigan, Southern Illinois against Illinois, William & Mary against West Virginia and Villanova against Boston College, it was a big week for FCS teams, and could have been bigger.

As for Johnny Manziel, I just saw the highlights of the A&M game on Fox Sports Live, I'm sorry, but he is a douchebag in my opinion and someone needs to smoke the shit out of him on a play this season, maybe it'll knock some common sense into him. If he's letting comments from Rice players get to him, he's gonna have a long ass season. The SEC teams alone with rip him a new one in comments on the line of scrimmage and after tackles/sacks. Then the taunting and getting into the face of Rice players after plays or touchdowns, just fucking stupid. Get the fuck back in the huddle, get the fuck over to the sideline, enough with the entitled jackass routine. I like A&M as a team, I like Sumlin, but Manziel is making it damn hard for me to not want A&M to lose every game this season. We already knew that winning the Heisman last year has gone to his head, you need look no further than all the off-season shit he ended up involved in. But if he really was paid tens of thousands of dollars for all those autographs, and only ended up with the slap on the wrist that he got, well, now he's being a cocky little shit because he knows he just got one over on the NCAA. Thankfully we won't have to wait long for a team to attempt to put him in his place, as the Alabama showdown is only two weeks away.

As for the personal foul penalty on Manziel, it may not be a big deal to some, A&M was already whooping ass, but it's still stupid and absolutely fucking pointless of a penalty. It's a penalty that never should have happened, simple as that, had Manziel just kept his goddamn mouth shut and not sit there trying to stir up shit with Rice players. Sumlin better have his ass running laps this week in practice after that shit.

I will be the third here to label J. Manziel a douche.........a pickled douche to boot..............sad because I have always liked the Aggies but I will be rooting against them now.

I'm fourth on Manziel is a douche and as much as it hurts me to say this. I hope that Alabama hits him over and over again to the point that he doesn't want to play in the game.

I think the general consensus is that Manziel has not shown sufficient respect for the game nor appreciation for the stage the game affords him, regardless of any violation of NCAA rule, and people would like to see him get his comeuppance. I am also among that group.

Yep, as far as I could see, he had no respect whatsoever for the game yesterday, nor his position on the "stage". He was acting like the Terrell Owens of college football yesterday. Sitting there taunting Rice players (Really? You're gonna taunt Rice?), making autograph gestures to the Rice players (which personally signals to me that he didn't learn jackshit from the entire NCAA investigation, the meetings, the half game suspension, it looks like he almost feels more empowered now), etc.

After getting tackled on one play, the same one he made the autograph gesture to a Rice player while backing up towards his huddle, not sure if the Rice player said something or not, but he suddenly stops and walks right up into the Rice player's face (practically in the defensive huddle mind you), to where one of his own linemen had to come over, get between him and the Rice player and push him back towards his own damn huddle. The play clock is running dumbass, you're in the middle of the drive, get back to the huddle and call the next play.

Then taunting that get him flagged for a personal foul, sitting there celebrating after a touchdown, more jawing with two Rice players, starts walking back to the sidelines then suddenly turns around, takes a couple steps back towards the Rice players near the end zone with his arms in the air, saying something that the refs deemed worthy enough of a flag. As I said last night, I don't give a damn what the score is, how secure the game is, what's going on in the game, a QB getting tagged with a personal foul penalty for taunting, or whatever the hell else he was doing right then towards those Rice players is just stupid and Sumlin better have his ass running laps all week long.

And even before he returned to the field, during the first half, he twice went out onto the field after touchdowns to try and celebrate with his teammates. One ref pulled him back towards his sideline by his jersey during one of the times (at the time he as all the way out by the numbers on the field) and even then he was throwing his arms up in the air while being pulled back by the ref, almost like he was trying challenge the ref on pulling him back from celebrating.

Winning the Heisman last year has seriously gone to his head (we pretty much already knew that after the off-season), but now getting out of an NCAA investigation with nothing more than a slap on the wrist has made him feel like he's empowered and untouchable and can do no wrong. Sumlin made the right move by benching him in the fourth quarter (even though it sounded like it only ended up being for the final series or two), but now Sumlin has to get on his ass and knock some goddamn sense into him. Like all the talking heads have been saying for the last 24 hours, if he was letting comments on the field by Rice players get to him like that, Alabama is gonna rip his ass a new one. And letting Alabama get into his head like that will do nothing but hurt A&M. Rice is Rice, A&M was fine against them regardless, Alabama is a different beast and he'll be laying on his ass all day if he loses the mental edge. He's a good player, he obviously has skill, but his attitude sucks and the way he handles himself on and off the field sucks. The way he's acting right now, he needs to be brought down a peg or ten.

You don't think it's a big deal that the guy breaks NCAA rules, lies about it, truth comes to light, the NCAA slaps him on the wrist because they're hypocrites, and then he makes a joke about it on National TV?! I'm not one who thinks players should be paid but I have no problem if a kid gets paid under the table for signing a whole bunch of stuff. There are only so many real superstars in college football who are going pro so they should be able to profit while they can. Not, "give your family a house a new car to come to our school" profit but, "sign a couple of things for me and I'll hook you up with spending money" profit.

The fact that the culture has killed sportsmanship does not make it right, but by all means pursue those dollars, just remember no amount of money can ever buy class. Just like a lack of money does not mean one is low class.

It is against the rules, some people care about these things, others not so much. Texas Tech was once penalized for a coach buying Dairy Queen for a recruit. Seems small but it was a rule and they broke it. If a kid does not want to do it for the "love" :fp: they can hand that $50,000 scholarship back to their respective colleges.

There are two kinds of football fans. The guy who smiled when Barry Sanders would hand the ball to a ref after a touchdown. The guy who thought "The U" and their antics were cool. Look guys I tackled someone, lets dance!

Not a big fan of Dodd's, but he does have a point.

I think what bugs me more is after the flag. After his coach got on to him, he more or less told the coach, screw you! That is one of the biggest problem that I have with him right now.

I'm not advocating breaking rules and not showing good sportsmanship and all that. I'm just saying that I found the money and autograph taunts to be funny and they didn't bother me. The one where he got flagged was obviously unnecessary but what's done is done. Hopefully it's a lesson learned.

I just find it interesting that last year all we heard was A&M will get bang-brothered in the SEC. We wouldn't stand a chance, then it was JFF wasn't the real thing, then we did alright in the SEC and JFF did already too.

Now, this year we have all this TMZ crap with JFF, the team looked ok, the defense needs to look much MUCH better. I'm more concerned with the team play than what JFF does or doesn't do. If he was going to change it would have happened after he was caught with fake IDs and in a fight summer of 2012. He must think the normal rules don't apply to him. If he plays that's fine, if he's kicked off the team that's fine. I just want the TEAM to do better.

I said the same thing to my buddy this summer, "What the heck is going on!!!???, we have multiple guys getting in trouble for drugs, fighting, off-campus problems....it's not just JFF." I want the TEAM to do better.

Why is it, the winning teams have problems? Or better yet the teams what win have those problems surface? (before anyone gets all worked up, that was rhetorical).

Everyone keeps saying we don't stand a chance against Bama...well sorry but we heard that all last year and again against ou in the bowl game...it's getting old.

I'm sure if we beat bama all we'll continue to hear about is how JFF is a black-eye for the team and university...you'll never hear how we won or did anything good football related...it's always negative.

I figured our d looked horrible against Rice, but we did have 8 starters out. Hopefully we'll look better againt sam hou st, 1 game at a time.

It is different, I know it's not the best attention but rewind a few years back and A&M was never in the talk when it came to football. So atleast people are talking about us, would be nice if it was in a better light.
