I'm seeing on Twitter that 9-3 LA Tech will not be in a bowl game. Some confusion on whether they turned down an invite or got overlooked. LA Tech has the #1 offense in the country. :(

Seems all but official that Nebraska's mauling by Wisconsin helped push Northern Illinois into the Orange Bowl vs. Florida State. The Sooners now get A&M in the Cotton Bowl. Great match-up, but OU/Big 12 probably upset on missing out on the extra money.

If a 9-3 team does not end up in a bowl game but a half dozen (or however many) 6-6 teams do, that's fucked up. :smh:

Let's be honest. Bowl games are dumb. The MNC is the only one that means anything in any given year. You're right, it's fucked, but who cares?

Well, with no NHL, I don't give a shit about NBA until playoff time, and that shit they call football on Sundays, I do. I'll be watching as many bowl games as I can (at least those that look to be interesting, plus Navy's and Tulsa's guaranteed) over the next month before we end up in a sports black hole until March Madness.

That, and regardless of whether bowl games are dumb or not, they're around and aren't going anywhere, so may as well watch some extra college football while I/we still can and try to enjoy them, no matter how much some of them might suck or end up sucking.

The bowl didn't wait and moved on. Other dominoes (namely Oklahoma being bumped out of the BCS and Iowa-St being bumped out of a Big XII bowl slot as a result) fell against La Tech and ... voila, no bowl.

Yeah, but the allure of what would most likely be one hell of a battle between Washington and Navy was most appealing to me. Arizona State may still be one hell of a great game, but I really wanted Washington, especially when it looked like they would be a potential opponent 3 or 4 weeks ago.

And it is official, Arizona State-Navy is the match-up.

I saw that LA Tech's AD was on Sirius XM College Sports Nation this evening explaining what happened, so I'll have to listen to the podcast of it tomorrow. From what I've read, I'm going to guess fans, alumni, boosters, etc. are probably livid at either the athletic dept., Ind. Bowl, or both.

Oh yeah, nearly forget, rematch time in the Liberty Bowl!

Back on September 1st, Iowa State beat Tulsa 38-23. Tulsa proceeded to reel off 7 straight wins before a 4 point loss to Arkansas and finished 10-3 (also losing by 8 to SMU). Iowa State went from that season opening win, made it to 3-0 and 4-1, before promptly stumbling to a 6-6 finish.

Tulsa was actually faring pretty well in that game. Had a 16-7 lead after the 1st quarter, collapsed in the second quarter to trail 24-16 at the half. Was down 31-23 with 9 minutes left to play before Iowa State scored to put the game away with 2 minutes left.

With as (fairly) well as Tulsa played Iowa State in the first game of the season, and as red hot as Tulsa has been the rest of the year (along with Iowa State's collapse in the second half of the season), I'm looking forward to revenge for Tulsa. Unfortunately have to wait until New Year's Eve for that revenge.

I heard a different version on the radio. I heard the AD didn't want to play ULM because of some beef he has with them. :dunno:

Regarding Loser Tech, the story I've heard indirectly (we have a fan that sits on the Independence Bowl Committee) was that Loser Tech was offered the Indy Bowl a few days ago but they are too arrogant/too afraid to play ULM so they said "we're going to wait a few days and see what shakes out". When NIU made it to the Orange Bowl, that screwed over a lot of folks particularly because then the Big 12 doesn't have two in the BCS. By the time LTU realized they were going to be shut out, they went back to the Independence Bowl and they had already moved on.

Oklahoma getting shut out of the BCS also screwed Arkansas State... by that happening, that filled more Big 12 slots knocking Iowa State down a rung. And stupidly, instead of taking a team that will sell probably 25k or more tickets, they took a team that just happens to be in an AQ conference despite it being the 2nd of 3 matchups of the same two teams in two years (Tulsa/Iowa State). Many wonder if University of Memphis didn't block us since they didn't want us to be showcased in their own back yard to recruits, etc. Oh well, works out of us in the end (even though it's a farther trip) because beating a ranked Kent State will likely propel us into the Top 25.

The Independence Bowl has an obligation to make a matchup for themselves after all, and can't wait for a team if nobody else is.

Wow... Arizona scores with 0:45 remaining to put the game at 48-42. Arizona recovers the onside kick. First play gains 25, next play gains 23, and then finally a 3 yard slant takes them into the endzone. PAT good makes it 48-49 with 0:19 remaining. And for some reason, Nevada burns their last timeout on the XP attempt instead of saving it to setup the field goal.

Corrected to address my feelings about Nebraska since the UCLA debacle. I swear we are the dumbest, luckiest team in America. This feeling probably has some degree of being spoiled by the past (Osborne era has a LOT to do w/it), and I should come to grips and accept those times will be very hard to return to because of finances, recruiting restrictions among other things. IMO, they should have lost v. Michigan State, N'Western, and Penn State but didnt because the other team crapped their own bed and Nebraska capitalized. Sure they have some quality athletes that play balls out (Burkhead, Bell, Spencer Long, Compton)...but other players just make their games so damn unwatchable with their stupid ass mistakes (TMart, Andrew Green, Stafford) and esp. on defense their inability to close and make tackles. TMart reminds me of a Steve Taylor - great speed off the edge but even with improvements cannot throw a football. Steve Grogan on Tecmo Super Bowl throws a better ball, at least he can hit a target. Add in the fact the past couple bowl games history isn't on our side v. SEC teams.

I try to watch as much as I can just because it's the final games of college football for the next 8 1/2 months. Outside of bowl games with Navy, FIU or Tulsa (and Northern Illinois due to this year's BCS games), I couldn't give a shit who wins or loses the games, I just hope for good football games like last night's Clemson-LSU game.

After that, there's not jackshit on TV. Even if the fucking idiots manage to save the remainder of the hockey season, my interest in the NHL this year as already dwindled to near zero. I don't start getting fully invested into college basketball until February, I rarely ever care about NBA until late March/early April and I rarely watch any MLB games outside of Colorado Rockies games, just because I really don't give a shit about any other team in MLB, especially not enough to sit there for multiple hours a night watching an entire game.

So college football bowl games and NFL (end of regular season and the playoffs) are all I have in terms of sports until my attention turns towards college basketball. And after March Madness, unless the Denver Nuggets make a run in the NBA playoffs, I'll have nothing but Rockies baseball to get me through to the start of college football next season. So I'm taking advantage of watching every bowl game that I can, at least games that I think will be interesting or end up being close, good games.

Yep, I was calling bullshit on that play when it happened. I'll admit, I have no love for the SEC, it gets old hearing SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC every time you turn on ESPN or whatever other sports programming. But that call was absolute bullshit. The guy who spotted the ball had already been extremely generous with the spot of the ball. The runner was easily half a yard to a yard short when he was tackled, but they spotted it right on the line. Then to make that blatant of a bullshit first down call, and ballsy as hell making it right in front of the South Carolina sideline. That was pathetic reffing right there.

History repeated itself yesterday. Sure Nebraska was game, but stupid ass plays by the triple catastrophe of TMart (the pick), Stafford (poor angles again) and Green (can he cover a box?) killed us. Add in fairly reliable Ciante Evans (a day late and a dollar short) and the recipe for fail was there. Long offseason ahead.

Tried to catch Louisville sleeping, only to end up with 30 yards in penalties and a player ejected, Louisville scores one play later, and then Florida fumbles in second play into their next drive to give Louisville the ball on the 4 yard line. Defense may have saved Florida's ass that drive, but the Gators are getting ripped a new one right now.

especially when they schedule teams like the citadel and expect the world to take their reason for scheduling them seriously.

and as i write this: INTERCEPTION LOUISVILLE!!!!

It is a complete and utter joke that Florida got in this game rather than Georgia.

Though, for Louisville's sake, I'm glad they did.

having the toughest in conference schedule is no excuse for having one of the weakest out of conference schedules out of all the conferences. if they're the best, why not prove it to everyone and schedule tougher opponents for their OOC games? they wont, because it all comes down to money. 4 OOC game wins means you only need 2 in conference games to become bowl elligible. the whole conference benefits by having more teams bowl elligible, due to all of the revenue sharing.

JeffHCross

I think it's less about bowl eligibility (Florida probably doesn't worry about that) and more about those blessed home game paychecks.

I agree.

I understand, firsthand, the hate for the Irish. That said, as a college football fan, I can't imagine wanting to see Alabama win again. I'd be somewhat okay with Georgia (at least it's not Bama, LSU, or Florida), but Bama? No.

What's even worse is that, if the Buckeyes weren't on probation Alabama wouldn't even be in the game.

Me too. I don't give a damn how weak of a schedule a team might have played or how "weak" the conference might be perceived as, if you go 12-0 (13-0 after the CCG) in one of the major conferences, and are one of only two teams to be undefeated at season's end, it's nothing but pure bullshit for both teams to not end up in the title game, and not a single fucking excuse would be legitimate to explain or reason why not.

Well, I say that ... actually, I probably wouldn't have been ... but since that option wasn't actually on the table, if I'm being honest with myself, we didn't play well enough to earn a national title berth this year, IMO.

Well, it's definitely safe to say that Johnny Football is winning Cotton Bowl MVP. Two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns so far. He, by himself, has more yards combined (485 yards passing+rushing) than Oklahoma has in total yards (341 yards).

I was really "impressed" NOT with the Fox commentators. They were all high and mighty on ou, both picked ou hands down. It's always funny to see the "experts" make their picks. They went on and on about how this is the same old big 12 A&M team and how ou owns the Aggies. Then when it's all said and done all the experts can say is "wow". I wonder if they feel like weather men today?

Even at half time all they could say is there is no way A&M's defense will be able to hold up, they played 51 plays in the first half,....well ou didn't score in the 2nd half!

I'm just happy that all the "experts" still think we are a pass happy system/gimmick offense, our defense is too small for the SEC.

It's just funny to hear all last spring/summer season how were weren't going to be able to hang. I mean it was daily, these "experts" would go on and on about how we would be lucky to win 4 or 5 games. Now you hear from none of them and when they do speak their "expert opinions" are things like "wow".

I was really blown away with Joey Harrington, I'm not sure if he was being sarcastic or if he's jealous or WHAT...when at the end of the game he puts this spin on it that Johnny Football didn't throw for 300 yards passing and rush for 200 yards, he said he was 12 yards shy, like this was a bad thing that he didn't break that record. Was he being sarcastic? Is he jealous? If they would have put Johnny back out there to run up the score and break these silly records when we already had the lead, Joey would be the FIRST person to be saying, they should have never left him in the game, risking injury just to run up the score and break records. Some people you just can't understand or appease.

I am truly impressed with Sumlin. He is one of the first coaches we've had at A&M that walks the walk. They all say things when they first arrive like, "we're going to give everyone a shot to play, if you play hard and earn the start you get it..." well Sumlin stood by that, see: C-Mike, he had words against the coach and Sumlin made an example. Mike Evans (#13) got the start at as a true Freshman, and many other players that replaced upper-classman.

I was also concerned when Kliff Kingsburry left for ttu, then after last night it didn't look like we missed a beat. So again, Sumlin is good at putting the right pieces in place.

Ever since ou and bob stoops ran up the score on us 77-0 and went for 2 at the end of the game, then senor stoops' response was, "If you don't like it stop it..." I must say beating bama was nice, Johnny Football winning the Heisman was nice, but beating ou and seeing bob stoops and his brothers' reactions, that was the icing on the cake for this Ag.

Gig 'Em Aggies!

Gus '99

Texas A&M 11-2 (first year in the SEC, with mikey mouse offense and too-small big 12 defense) Cotton Bowl Champs!

And with Pittsburgh losing to Ole Miss this afternoon, Conference USA clinches the 2012-13 Bowl Challenge Cup outright with a 4-1 record (.800) in bowls and Big East falling to 3-2. The ACC finishes second at 4-2 (.667).

This will be Conference USA's second straight finish on top of the Bowl Challenge Cup standings, ending last year tied with the MAC in first. C-USA is tied with the ACC for second most Bowl Challenge Cup trophies with two, Mountain West has the most with four dating back to the start of the Cup in 2002-03 season.

The SEC, Sun Belt and WAC the only conferences to never win the Bowl Challenge Cup during its 11 season history.

Best ever since the days of lugnutt and David Horne. It'll be interesting to see whether or not both his tackles return for their senior years. Matthews is rumored to be returning, but I haven't seen anything official. It would hurt significantly if both of them leave. If both stay, that could be the best offensive line in college.
