The greatest week of the entire college football season has arrived! (anyone who disagrees or says otherwise can stuff it! ;))

After getting through all that garbage on the football field yesterday, it is Army-Navy Week at last!

For you landlubbers, it says "Beat Army" in nautical flags. That is Navy's game ball for Saturday. :)

College GameDay

A Saturday without GameDay... This just doesn't feel right.

:fp: I guess it was just asking too much to make a trip to Philadelphia for only one of the most storied rivalries in all of college football (and on a day that it is ENTIRELY by itself as far as FBS games).

They're all probably at the Downtown Touchdown Club or whatever it's called.

Game on.

And while having only Army-Navy means the number of topics to talk about was incredibly reduced, they could have at least done a half hour or hour Gameday from Philly. Talked about the FCS tournament, maybe. Since they had an FCS playoff game at noon at that ...

Hey Smooth, the Game of Honor DVD is on Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/ip/22081498?adid=22222222227015952540&wmlspartner=wlpa&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=21486607510&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem), but it's out of stock (my guess is that it's never been in stock), and I don't see it anywhere else. Strange.

It just hit me ... there's part of me that wishes the game had been yesterday, but at the same time ... I'm extremely glad it wasn't. That would be a surreal anniversary.

Yeah, it didn't have to be multiple hours long or something, but they certainly could have done something. Even though it'd be reduced topics, like you said, they had the FCS playoffs, and there are always tons of topics to talk about with Army-Navy. CBS College Sports had stuff going from noon to 2:30pm of nothing but Army-Navy and previewing the game, and then CBS picked it up at 2:30 and has carried it right into the kickoff here. So if CBS and CBS College Sports were able to manage 3 hours of stuff to air, certainly College GameDay could have managed at least an hour to an hour and a half (especially if you include the FCS playoffs).

Yeah, I found out about it on, I think it was Wednesday afternoon. The local Walmart here in town had it in stock on their New Releases shelf, so I have the DVD in my possession. :)

And yeah, that definitely would have surreal to have had it fall like that. Depending on how the season and the schedule shakes out next year, Army-Navy may fall on Saturday, December 7th next year though.

Right, but CBS has incentive to run 3 hours worth of stuff. They've also had the access to the schools necessary for that. But ESPN definitely could have done something.

Only Verne would be old enough to screw up and call Army the "Cadets".

Yeah, all good points. Why ESPN never did anything, none of us truly know. At least in that regard, thanks to CBS Sports having coverage since noon, including the March On of both Army and Navy live on TV. That is always a great sight to see and I love seeing it finally getting recognition on TV.

And I must have missed that. Leave it to Verne though. :D

God I love watching the triple option. :) Navy's play just now was so flawless, it fooled not only the Army defense, but even fooled Verne, who thought Reynolds had handed it off when he instead kept it to get the first down.

Even though I've got the DVD from Walmart, I did some searching for the hell of it, Amazon has A Game of Honor available for $7.99 on Amazon Instant Video. What the hell, I've got $15 of Amazon Instant Video credits built up, so it was free after the credit discount. So now I have A Game of Honor on DVD and I can also watch it anytime I want on my PC, my 360 or online on Amazon. :)

Shit. 10-10 tie at the half. I don't care what the records are. Army could be 0-11, it wouldn't matter, they are still a very dangerous team in this game. Navy needs to whoop some ass come the second half. If Army's within 10 points of Navy heading into the finals minutes of the game, Navy and their 10 game winning streak over Army could be in trouble.

Even though I've got the DVD from WalmartIt was actually released? Wow, for some reason I didn't think it was. Maybe you told me that but, if you did, I obviously forgot. I may have to keep watch on that page to see if it comes available again. Or I may just download it from Amazon tonight onto my PS3 :)

Yeah, it was actually released. They had a stock of 4 or 5 on the New Releases shelf at the Walmart here in town. If you have a Walmart there where you're at, they may have some still on the shelves, even though Walmart.com is saying out of stock. Or yeah, Amazon is also a route to go now that it's finally started showing up on Amazon, at least on Amazon Instant Video, still nothing showing up in Amazon Blu-rays and DVDs.

Third straight year that Army outgains Navy. At least the second year that Army can't hold onto the ball and it costs them.

Yep. It truly is any year now that Army is going to beat Navy. Army has been playing fiercely the past two or three years and nothing but their inability to hold onto the football and inability to recover all of their fumbles have killed them. Army fumbled 5 times and lost 3 of them. Amazingly, despite all that, they were still right there, less than 20 yards from winning the game. Until another fumble doomed them. So I absolutely tip my hat to Army for one hell of a game today. They are getting tougher. We're not going to see years like we did back in the early 2000s, no more 58-12, 38-3, 34-0 wins, etc. It's gonna be hard fought battles for a long while.

Also, I will say, I felt really bad for Trent Steelman there at the end. That guy has fought hard for the last four years to beat Navy, with the last year and this year ending in losses because of untimely turnovers that he was personally involved in. I felt horrible for him there at the end, to see him just broken down in tears there. To put his heart and soul into beating Navy for four years and to come so close these last two years, only to fail at the last moment because as mistake he made or was involved in, that's gotta rip your heart right out of you. :(

Damn, I feel even worse for Trent Steelman now. Watching A Game of Honor on my 360 right now, I forgot, in 2010, Navy was up 17-7 just before halftime, Army had the ball inside the Navy 5. Steelman tried to take it in, got caught up in a pile and the ball either came out or got stripped and went right into the hands of a Navy defender who took it 95+ yards to a touchdown to make it 24-7, the final result being 31-17. If Steelman scored that touchdown instead of fumbling and giving it returned for a touchdown right before halftime, who knows what would have happened that game in the second half.

While last year and this year, it was Steelman personally involved in a turnover at the end of the game that sealed Army's fate to a loss, that fumble inside the Navy 5 yard line that gave Navy a 17 point lead instead of only 3 points headed into halftime, this was three years in a row that Steelman made a mistake (be it fumbles or interceptions) that either allowed Navy to extend their lead on the way to a win or pretty much secured victory for Navy and defeat for Army. That's a hard way for him to go out, not only this year in the his final Army-Navy game of his career, but to look back over all four Army-Navy games he started in his career and knowing his personal mistakes had a hand in Army being defeated in the final three of those years.
