Nah. If we were still playing like we were playing at the beginning of the season, I think we would have had a chance. WVU always plays VERY WELL at home, but we got destroyed by Kansas State and we haven't looked decent since getting annihilated by Texas Tech.

Agreed. Oklahoma's a Top 10 team. That's why.

Nah. If we were still playing like we were playing at the beginning of the season, I think we would have had a chance.Point being ... you don't need to have a chance. You're on national TV because of Fox's contract and the fact that Oklahoma is highly rated.

Though I'm sure Fox will try to spin WVU as a threat and Geno Smith as a Heisman contender.

I am not betting the farm on a "W" Saturday. OU struggled with Baylor at home and it was not a pretty game to watch.

Woo Hoo Kent state cracks the Top 25 for the first time since 1973!

Probably their only week in. The MAC has been trading people in and out the past couple weeks. Two weeks ago Ohio was in, lost, dropped out. This past week was Toledo. And with Kent State playing Bowling Green this week, well...

And Northern Illinois is getting no love. 9-1, have won 9 straight after losing by one point to Iowa in week 1. The highest they've been was 26th last week, ended up dropping to 27th this week. No respect for MAC teams from the voters. :smh:

Nick Saban's employer and alma mater are both in the Top 25, and with equal records. Love it!

Wow. Kansas State is going to be #2 in both the AP and the Coaches, but #1 in the BCS. Talk about polls being ridiculous...I fail to see an obvious example of what's "ridiculous" in your statement. You're going to need to spell it out.

No respect for MAC teams from the voters. :smh:If you can genuinely tell me that you think Northern Illinois would win 6/10 from Texas Tech or Oklahoma State, I'd buy that they're getting disrespected.

I'm not even sure I buy Kent State as Top 25, as cool as it is to see. Sure, they whooped up on Rutgers, but they also got taken behind the woodshed by Kentucky.

Some great games this week. Toledo-Northern Illinois will be for all the marbles in the MAC West. NIU is 6-0, Toledo 5-1. NIU plays Eastern Michigan next week, Toledo plays Akron, which both should win, so Toledo must win Wednesday night to get the head-to-head tiebreaker. Florida International-Florida Atlantic on Friday night is gonna be another great one. Sure, both teams suck, FAU 3-7, FIU 2-8, both this one should be a heck of a battle Friday night.

Saturday is chock full of great games. UCF-Tulsa, a battle of division leader and a potential preview of the C-USA Championship game. The Game, the 129th battle between Harvard and Yale. Texas State-Navy, which isn't exactly a top biller, but Navy is coming off of a very disappointing 41-31 loss to Troy, Texas State coming out of an absolute battle with Louisiana Tech, and trying to break a three game losing streak. This game is also huge for Navy as it is the final game for the Midshipmen before the Army-Navy game on December 8th. And then that night, it'll be some tough battles for #1 and #2. A college football fan's dream day this coming week.

I'm not even sure I buy Kent State as Top 25, as cool as it is to see. Sure, they whooped up on Rutgers, but they also got taken behind the woodshed by Kentucky.

Just a personal feeling/thought that I have.

Come the end of the season, there'll be loads of 8-4 and 7-5 teams from the major conferences that will be ranked, but a MAC with 2 or 3 losses, fat chance you'll see them anywhere near being ranked. Even the MAC getting a team ranked took an undefeated Ohio, an 8-1 Toledo and a 9-1 Kent State, with a 9-1 Northern Illinois yet to break the top 25. Any other conference, a 7-0, 8-1 or 9-1 team would be in the top 10 or top 15 right now.

Sure, "the MAC's not on the same level as the other conferences", it's still bullshit in the end. Any other conference, an 7-0 team would be ranked at least in the top 15 and would have been ranked for weeks before that. Ohio didn't make their first appearance in the rankings until week 8, after they got to 7-0. I'm just sick of the bullshit when it comes to rankings. One conference, 7-5 at the end of the season will be good enough to be ranked, but in another conference, 10-2 or 9-3 won't be. It's all bullshit.

gschwendt
11-11-2012, 04:43 PM
It's the same as Middle Tennessee getting top 25 votes simply because they beat Georgia Tech... they lost to a freaking FCS school in the first week of the season.

Come on guys, 1973 for cripes sake, I was one year old the last time Kent St was in the Top 25. Most of you guys were not even born. Show some love. This the fine institution that gave us...

JeffHCross

It's all bullshit. No, bullshit is "this team should be ranked because of their record", no matter who they've played. It's the same crap mindset that people were using to justify that Louisville should have been Top 5, ahead of all the 1-loss teams. HA.

Do MAC teams deserve recognition when they have a good record? Sure. But 10-1 in the MAC isn't even 10-1 in the Big East, let alone 10-1 in a top conference. There's an eye test involved, Smooth.

Now, if your personal opinion is that the Top 25 should be recognizing the Top 25 records, and not whether or not a team would win versus a team ranked below them, that's your prerogative. Mine is the opposite.

I realize there are times that the #1 is not the one that would beat everyone else. That may be the case this week. You do have to recognize records, to an extent. But I wouldn't be in favor of voting for MAC teams just because of their record.

As the last remaining winless team left on the FBS level, :Southern_Miss: looks to go 0-11 as they take on :UTEP: on senior night in Hattiesburg. There will probably be only 40 people at the game. Everyone is absolutely DISGUSTED with what the new coaching staff has done this season.

:D i sucked so bad, i couldnt beat out the practice tackling dummy for a spot on the team.

tough call for me. i'm an offensive minded coach, but watching the USC defense all this season has really made me want to become a DB coach. i'm thinking about volunteering at my old HS or another local one to get into coaching....but only if this gig for southern miss doesnt work out. ;)

Tulsa now the only undefeated team in C-USA after 23-21 win over UCF. Sitting at 7-0 in the conference, SMU is the only team standing between Tulsa and a perfect conference mark for 2012.

Tulsa has also secured a spot in the C-USA championship game. They'll play either UCF or East Carolina. UCF is sitting at 6-1 with UAB left to play next week. East Carolina is 5-1, leading Tulane 14-13 in the 3rd quarter and a game against Marshall still left on the schedule. UCF does have head to head advantage over East Carolina, the Golden Knights winning 40-20 over ECU back on October 4th.

Arkansas State runs out the clock but not before fumbling the ball on a victory formation QB kneel. There was a 30 second pileup before the officials eventually ruled that we had recovered.

Just shows that Tampa Bay wasn't nearly as cheap as they were called earlier this year.

Not rubbing it in but there was a funny quote in the NGAF football thread by a Bruin fan.

I hope Matt Barkley wasn't badly hurt. I don't want any physical pain distracting him from the emotional pain.

whats even funnier....this is only fucla's second win in the last 14 years against USC.

Florida has been horrible the past few weeks so it would be a slaughter. There is the possibility Oregon gets in if they win out. I think the whipping KSU took eliminated them.

So, UCLA plays Stanford next week. The Bruins are in the Pac-12 CCG no matter what. If they beat Stanford, they face Oregon the following week. If UCLA wins, they get Stanford in the CCG six days later. There's some discussion that maybe UCLA should tank next week or at least not open up the playbook. It certainly makes for an interesting discussion.

Nah, Notre Dame is like the Dallas Cowboys/NY Yankees in regards to a love/hate attitude. I think most would take 2 SEC teams in the title game over ND getting in. At least with two SEC teams in the championship we are guaranteed one SEC team losing the championship.

And seeing ND get annihilated by Bama would be any better? There is still hope of seeing a descent Championship game of Oregon vs the SEC Champ but to see that Notre Dame would have to lose and preferably lose badly to USC. I am for any scenario that takes ND out of the equation.

Yes, because I am on the side of good and hate ND with a passion. You can't hate ND all year and then all of a sudden hope they win just to avoid a two SEC team NC. Again that is not guaranteed and Oregon could very well get back in the race. The BCS standings tommorrow will be VERY interesting.

In other news, a perfect weekend. Florida International wins Friday night, Navy wins an ugly one over Texas State today and Tulsa squeaks out a win over UCF.

West Virginia stuck with Oklahoma for the most part, could have won, had the lead, but gave up the game winner with 24 seconds left.

And it's 0-11 for Southern Miss. I'm surprised by how close it was, but a failed two point conversion with 2:48 left dooms the Golden Eagles to within one game of going 0-fer. Southern Miss and Rhode Island are the only teams in the FBS and FCS divisions still trying to get a win. Will both teams go without a win this season?

I am, of course, fucked up. I am with my friend for 32 years. I just watched a band that I haven't seen in nearly 20 years because they quit playing until recently. deadhorse. A band I saw 20+ times in my youth. And, the Irish are #1. Great fucking night.

FSU was kinda getting robbed anyway, it makes no since that there are some two loss and some teams that barely won multiple weeks ahead of them(though I know they say style points are no longer considered). Does that excuse there loss absolutely not, but there is a slight love affair with SEC, Hell its going to be interesting to see how how they move up if they move up at all.

The PAC-12 doesn't have a strong conference either so it will become more interesting to see how this works out.

It's another season where there needs to be a playoff, and not this bullshit top 4 "playoff" shit that the panzy motherfuckers finally agreed to after 15 years of totally fucked up scenarios coming into play with the BCS, but a real 16 team playoff. Instead, we're going to see at least one SEC team again (UGGH!!) and probably Florida State (there's simply no way Notre Dame goes into USC and wins next week - there are too many factors saying that USC comes in PISSED and blasts them). Talk about a monumental bore. Georgia or Alabama is going to DESTROY Florida State and the SEC (UGGH) is going to win another MNC instead of a REAL playoff settling who the champion is (How is Florida no better than Alabama? Why shouldn't Kent State get their chance?).

It's all bullshit until there's a true playoff that crowns a champion.

Yep. After decades of losing to Notre Dame, there is no love for the Irish. I'd be more than happy to see them go 0-12. :)

And that sack will never leave my memory. It is one of the greatest plays and games I have ever watched in all of sports in my entire life. Only games ahead of it are the two Broncos Super Bowl wins. Only plays are Elway's helicopter spin in Super Bowl XXXII and Matt Holliday beating the tag at home on a sac fly to beat the Padres in the 2007 tiebreaker to keep Rocktober storming ahead into the playoffs and their World Series run.

Just shows that Tampa Bay wasn't nearly as cheap as they were called earlier this year.Still completely fail to understand that furor. While I don't support the appearance, from what I saw, that Tampa's DL seemed to be going at the knees of the offensive linemen, the entire point of the QB kneel was to avoid the risk of running a play. It shouldn't be a give up / concession.
