i'm sure theyll come out of it alot better then Houston by seasons end...but Harden is another selfish dumb ass..4 years / over 50 million.

I don't think the trade was bad for OKC..as bad as it was for Houston.

Guess the Rockets want to sale some tickets and fake beards. Because I wouldn't count on Harden leading the team to more victories, neither he, Lin or Asik.

Meanwhile OKC gets another scorer off the bench (what Harden was) and another young player who could develop nicely.

Also with the flopping rule going into place he lost some of his value anyway.

For some odd reason Yahoo ranked Rondo 44th. ESPN was 19th, CBS was 16th. I got Rondo in the 3rd round. Gasol was my 2nd round pick.

The Heat should be pretty solid again this season. Their rotations could be killer if Ray and Rashard stay healthy. They played solid minutes in their 1st games. Since they will practically he shooting spot up 3's most of the time, their additions will be very productive

Colin Cowherd was ripping into the Lakers fans yesterday, with all the fans apparently going into full on "end of the world", meltdown mode, simply because the Lakers were 0-2, out of a 82 game season. I don't get what the big deal is. They lost 25 games last year. They're 0-3 this year but will eventually get back into the typical Lakers rhythm and things will be just fine. Now if you end up reaching 0-10 or something, then you can start worrying, because something truly is fucked in LA at that point. But 0-3 and already melting down? Lakers fans crack me up sometimes.

:D Considering the Lakers went 0-8 during the pre-season and now are 0-3 to start the regular season, I think it's time to hit the panic button. All kidding aside, I don't think Mike Brown is the right man for the job. If you lose 11 straight games with this roster, you need to be shown the door. Granted, it's only November 3rd but us Lakers fans aren't known for our patience. I know it takes time for a team to develop a chemistry together but they should be showing signs of improving at some point. Right now, everyone looks lost on the court.

Well, good point about the preseason record as well, though I don't hold any weight to preseason records, in any sport. If the Lakers end up 0-5, there may be signs of a problem, 0-10, alright, let the meltdown begin. As for Mike Brown, yeah, I didn't think he was a good fit for that job either. I guess it's showing. :D

:( LOS ANGELES -- Steve Nash has a small fracture in his left leg and will be out of the Los Angeles Lakers' lineup for at least another week.

The Lakers announced the results of the point guard's MRI exam Saturday.

Nash suffered to fracture to his fibula in a collision with Portland rookie Damian Lillard on Wednesday night. He missed the Lakers' 105-95 loss to the Clippers on Friday night, dropping the Lakers to 0-3 for the first time in 34 years.

The two-time NBA MVP joined the Lakers last June for his 17th NBA season, agreeing to a three-year, $27 million contract before his trade from Phoenix.

Nash's backup is Steve Blake, who had two assists and eight points in 39 minutes against the Clippers.

The Lakers host Detroit on Sunday night.

Three big names that are being thrown around, but will not be the next coach of the Lakers:

Phil Jackson - Triangle system takes a while to install, doesn't fit Nash's game.
Jerry Sloan - Probably would be a worse fit on this team than Mike Brown.
Mike D'Antoni - Maaaybe. But just had knee surgery, won't be able to until mid-December-ish.

Brian Shaw is another intriguing option, but the Lakers gave him the middle finger like no other. Buuuuuuuuuut. Cash and a HC job heals all wounds?

Phil Jackson's idol must be Brett Favre.

Left after winning in Chicago in 1998, came back a year later. Leaves Lakers in 2004, comes back a year later. Leaves Lakers in 2011, comes back a year later. If he leaves again, no worries, he'll be back sometime the next year. They may as well just sign Jackson to a lifetime contract, make it easy.

Lakers hire Mike D'Antoni

The Los Angeles Lakers, in a surprising move, announced Monday morning that they have signed former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni to replace Mike Brown as head coach.

D'Antoni's has a four-year contract, his agent, Warren LeGarie, confirmed late Sunday night, several hours after the Lakers beat Sacramento 103-90 for their second straight win under interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff. A league source said D'Antoni has a three-year deal worth $12 million and that the fourth year is a club option.

The deal was signed around 11:30 p.m. PT Sunday night, a source close to the situation told ESPN. Sources confirmed a Los Angeles Times report that D'Antoni quickly agreed to coach the Lakers after L.A.'s weekend of negotiations to bring back Phil Jackson broke down.

The Lakers said they plan to hold a news conference most likely on Tuesday or Wednesday. In a statement released by the team, Lakers spokesperson John Black said team owner Jerry Buss, executive vice president Jim Buss and general manager Mitch Kupchak were "unanimous that D'Antoni was the best coach for the team at this time."

"I love PJ but I'm very excited about D'Antoni," Kobe Bryant told ESPN early Monday.

Sources told ESPN that Jackson's triangle offense was seen as a benefit to Bryant and Pau Gasol, but not as conducive to the rest of the players on the roster -- namely point guard Steve Nash and center Dwight Howard. Another strike against the triangle was the fact that this Lakers team struggled mightily to pick up the similarly complicated Princeton-style offense being instituted by Brown.

A league source indicated late Sunday night that Jackson was "stunned" when the Lakers called to inform him they had chosen D'Antoni. He had been prepared to accept the job Monday if negotiations between his agent and the Lakers went well. Jackson's agent Todd Musberger had been scheduled to fly to Los Angeles on Monday

Jackson and the Lakers had never spoken about a salary, the source said, "but he knew coaches don't make what he used to make anymore." Jackson, the source said, also never intended to miss any more road games than he had in his previous years with the Lakers.

"Phil would come back only to win and skipping games doesn't lead to winning," the source said.

D'Antoni, who had knee surgery at the beginning of November, hasn't yet been cleared to travel, according to sources, and "it'll be a couple of days before he comes in, but he's further along than people believe." There is a possibility that Bickerstaff will remain interim head coach even after D'Antoni's introductory news conference, according to a source, if D'Antoni isn't feeling physically able to coach games just yet.

Part of the current crop of leftovers from Brown's staff are expected to be retained by D'Antoni, along with "one or two" new coaches that he will bring in with him, according to a source. Two candidates to join D'Antoni are his older brother and longtime assistant, Dan D'Antoni, as well Phil Weber, another longtime aide.

D'Antoni spent five seasons coaching Nash in Phoenix. Nash won two MVP awards while running D'Antoni's signature up-tempo offense, and they won at least 54 games in each of D'Antoni's last four seasons.

D'Antoni then coached New York for the past four seasons, resigning last March after a largely unsuccessful tenure featuring just one playoff appearance and no postseason victories.

Nash and Bryant both expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of playing for D'Antoni, although Bryant eagerly campaigned for a third stint for Jackson on the Lakers' bench. Bryant idolized D'Antoni while growing up in Italy, where D'Antoni was a star player in the Italian league.

"Obviously I think everyone knows how much I love Mike," Nash said Sunday night prior to the hiring. "If (D'Antoni) were to coach, it would be seamless and terrific for me, and I think the team as well."

The Lakers have improved to 3-4 after following up their winless preseason with four losses in their first five regular-season games, the club's worst start since 1993.

Brown was fired after the Lakers stumbled badly out of the gate, struggling to learn his Princeton-inflected offense and playing mediocre defense.

D'Antoni has a reputation as an offensive-minded coach, although his NBA teams typically have played fairly solid defense, statistically speaking.

The Lakers' next game is Tuesday night against San Antonio. Phoenix visits Staples Center on Friday.

 I'm mad as a hornet and sick to my stomach. How do you pass on a coach who has won 11 NBA Championships? I don't care if Phil wanted a hot tub at courtside. Give the man whatever he wants to get him back. It all boils down to Jim Buss and Phil not liking one another. He's a complete and total idiot. In order to win more NBA Championships, I would have swallowed my pride but not the all knowing Jim Buss. I hope he's happy when the Lakers are at the house come playoff time.

This Week 10 picks column is dedicated to the immortal Mike Brown, the only person who ever figured out a way to stop LeBron James and someone on whom I was counting to screw up the 2012-13 Lakers season. If you noticed, I rarely if ever made Mike Brown jokes in columns or podcasts or even on TV — I was hoping he'd hang around for years and years and years, almost like the coaching version of an STD. Mike Brown was the kind of guy who shrugged off halftime adjustments and thought it would be smart to have Steve Nash run the Princeton offense

Looks like a color change could be in the works also.

The Hornets moved to New Orleans from Charlotte in 2002, and when Benson bought the team earlier this year, he said he would like to change the name to something more fitting of Louisiana. His wife, Gayle, reiterated that idea and added that the franchise also would like to change the team colors from teal and purple to red, gold and navy blue.

And Michael Jordan is interested in possibly bringing the Hornets nickname back to Charlotte in the future.

I will admit, at least this is a slightly logical suit, since the ticket prices were different, more expensive due to the better team coming to town, only to have the star players not play and instead fly home, but still, no wonder our damn justice system works at a crawl where it takes months and years for lawsuits and trials to come to a full conclusion, because of some much crap in the system clogging everything up.

MIAMI -- Usually, LeBron James is the one who gets mobbed by adoring basketball fans. On Friday, the role was reversed when the league's three-time MVP broke away from a timeout huddle during Friday's 110-88 win over the Detroit Pistons to rush the court and congratulate a fan who won $75,000 for making a half-court shot.

James couldn't contain his excitement when he ran up to Michael Drysch, a 50-year-old computer technician, moments after the awkward hook shot he launched splashed through the nets at AmericanAirlines Arena.

"That was awesome, man," James said. "I was excited for him. When he wound up like that, I was like, 'Oh no, there's no way.' And then when I saw it in the air, I was like, 'Oh, that's got a chance.' I was happy to be a part of that."
Drysch collapsed to the ground underneath James as the two embraced. Drysch won the money from the LeBron James Family Foundation, which flew Drysch from Illinois after he was selected from a drawing.

"It's a great way to meet somebody like that," Drysch said as he was presented the oversized check. "I had no idea he was coming over to me like that. That was amazing. What a great feeling to experience something like this."

Drysch said he had been practicing the shot the past two days and only made it once during his workouts. He received a tip from a friend in the arena tunnel as he was warming up to take the shot.

"They told me to put some spin on the ball, and get it up there as high as I could," Drysch said. "I had made that shot something like 1 percent of the time in my life."

James spent several moments on the court congratulating Drysch before he returned to the Heat's huddle to prepare for the start of the fourth quarter.

Heat guard Dwyane Wade scored a team-high 29 points Friday, but said Drysch hit the biggest shot of the game.

"That was an unbelievable shot," Wade said. "We might need to sign him and bring him back for late-game situations."

Shot to cost fan $22K in taxes

With a half-court hook shot, Michael Drysch has gone from an average computer technician in the Midwest to a viral Internet sensation.

The 50-year-old from McHenry, Ill., swished a shot Friday night at the Miami Heat game as part of a promotion with lip balm brand Carmex and the LeBron James Family Foundation. He won $75,000 for himself and the Boys & Girls Club of America.

Drysch got tackled by James after the shot went in, but the government also will tackle his $75,000 prize.

"A lot of people don't realize: You don't win what you win," said Robert Raiola, an accountant with FMRTL in Cranford, N.J., whose clients include athletes.

It's not something Drysch was unaware of. When asked Friday night on NBA TV what he would do with the money, Drysch responded, "Give the government half."

Well, at least it won't be that much.

Drysch's prize is a lump sum based on that $75,000 number, but IRS regulations stipulate that 25 percent of the prize must be withheld for federal income tax.

That leaves Drysch with a check of $56,250.

Then consider the fact that he is a resident of Illinois, which will take out a 5 percent state tax on the prize, regardless of income.

His winnings now are $52,770.

A representative for Carmex confirmed the basic accounting.

Whether Drysch will owe any more in tax will depend on how much he earns in 2013.

He's doing well this year (I only know cuz I have him on my fantasy team :D) He's averaging 15/5/3, and the big fact is the Celtics do not have a true healthy point guard right now, and only 3 guards TOTAL on the roster now. Oh and hiring Mike Brown back was comical...I'm sure he will duplicate those 50+ win seasons without a problem.

I love how he said they're one player away from returning to past success. Yeah, I doubt one player from a weak NBA draft would have really helped a, what was it? 24 win season? You might have won 30 games.

He's actually correct in that statement

They are one player away from returning to past success. Unfortunately that one player is 1,200 miles away and plays for the Miami Heat lol.

And there isn't a player in this draft that will have that impact in the next 1-2 years. But if they keep repeating their trend...they will have a starting 4-5 of #1 draft picks, which would be fun to watch

:D Well played!

Yeah, this year's draft is thoroughly unimpressive. Definitely not any major big name players/instant franchise changers like years past.

Yeah, unlike the NFL draft, you can almost IMMEDIATELY see whether or not someone is going to be a huge success in the NBA or not.

Nuggets and George Karl part ways? How often does that happen to the current Coach of the Year?

I like George Karl, but while Denver was incredible damn near every year in the regular season, they sucked ass in the post season. As the story says:

It was the eighth time in Karl's nine playoff appearances with Denver that the Nuggets had been ousted in the first round.

You just can't have a playoff record like that and expect to be kept around for very long. Better coaches have been fired for much less in recent years. I hate to see him go, but Denver was clearly never going to do anything in the playoffs under Karl.

Rodman:
"It's really not a comparison. If LeBron was playing in the late '80s and early '90s, he would be just an average player

And Rodman is absolutely correct.

Dunnp if I agree with him on that one. Not sure he would be as dominant as he has shown flashes of, but can't say he would just be "average"

He wouldn't even be top 10. Only thing he has going for him is his ballhandling skills for a forward. Funny thing is, there were about 5 exactly like him in the 80s and 90s, the best of which was Larry Bird (not nearly as athletic as James, but FAR better shooter, post player, rebounder, and passer).

Not to mention how hardcore the league was back then. Sports today are completely pussified.

Those 3 pointers will just kill you. 16 of them will bury you and put flowers on your grave. I was switching between this and US Soccer and every time I would flip back to the Spurs game, boom, 3 pointer.

Just amazing how in the finals a team gets bitchslapped, then comes back with a harder bitchslap the very next game. Baby Bron Bron, 3rd straight game under 20 points.

We better win Sunday. Which is annoying that they have to wait 3 days to get to the next game with no travel involved. Plus the DVR is on the fritz so I have to flip between the game and The Killing/Mad Men.

I've been saying that the entire playoffs. The scheduling of this year's playoffs have been stupid as hell. Sure, I understand they'd rather play on Sunday night than Saturday night, better ratings that way, but it's still stupid. Multiple times this postseason, teams have had to wait three or four days just because the NBA wanted a certain team or matchup to be played on a certain night. Stupid as hell and completely fuckers the momentum the teams build up throughout the series.
