Navy breaking out new uniforms for the Army-Navy game. I need to have a chat with my boss on Monday and get him set in action on tracking down a Navy helmet to buy from one of his NCAA equipment contacts. While I still love my regular gold and white Pro Combat Navy helmets, it's time to expand my collection. :)

Yes it is! :nod: I'm not too concerned on getting the jersey, I already have a jersey and pants from Navy's 2008 Pro Combat uniforms. But I want that helmet. I'm not 100% sure where I would put it, as I am already short of space between my regular gold helmet and 2011 Pro Combat helmet, but I'll find the space. :)

Better than the turkey feet.

The bug has been planted in my boss' ear. :) Said he's gonna shoot an email to his guy in Wisconsin later tonight, and then the waiting game starts of when the guy gets his hands on a helmet, and how much it'll cost. My current Pro Combat helmet that I have, was, I think $300. With this helmet, I wouldn't be surprised to see it end up being $350-$400.

The Ram pic NEVER gets old! NEVER!

The multiple colored facemasks don't bother me. I actually like Maryland's "Pride" unis. The ONLY outrageous think I haven't liked was the Notre Dame blue-on-one-side-gold-on-the-other helmet. I HATED that. It would've been SO clean if it were blue with a gold stripe or the leprechaun was gold. The way they did it was just ugly.

It helps when one of the biggest uniform/athletic apparel manufacturers is in your back yard and an alumnus. Remember when he stated that if Oregon had asked he would have built them a blue practice turf to help prepare for the Legarrette Punch game against Boise State. If you ever get a chance visit the Nike store in Eugene. I went in high school, and I have never seen so many exclusive colorways of Jordans and other shoes, and this was about 10 years ago before the "hypebeast" movement.

I feel that they should have made the shamrock a darker shade of green. I had a problem trying to see it on tv. I also didn't like their uniforms a well.

My wife (a gynecologic oncologist) CANNOT stand the "Pink" movement. Its an absolute joke at this point as companies just do it for PR as very little money actually goes to patients/research.

I think the bigger :fp: moment is that me and CLW actually agree on something. :D

The whole "Pink" movement started out with good intentions. But it has been completely hijacked and whored out for corporate gains and good PR for companies. Half of them couldn't give two shits about donating to cancer research. First Notre Dame goes to Under Armour and now Tennessee is heading to Nike. Who is next in the Adidas exodus?

Another long-time, high-profile college athletics client of Adidas has elected to part ways with the German apparel giant.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel notes that the Vols' current agreement with Adidas runs through June 30, 2015, meaning Tennessee won't wear their new Nike uniforms until the 2015 football season and 2015-2016 all-sports year.

Tennessee announced the deal is for eight years, through 2023, and for nearly $4 million per year to be paid in merchandise credit and cash. Nike will also pay the Volunteers a $2 million signing bonus.

"We were very thorough and deliberate in assessing and evaluating our options with our apparel partner decision,” Vol athletic director Dave Hart said in a release, per Nooga.com. "Nike is the right partner for the University of Tennessee moving forward. We appreciate our current partner and the strong relationship we have had for many years. We will continue to work together through the end of the existing contract."

The Vols' decision shapes up as another major blow for Adidas' college athletics brand, which earlier this month already saw Notre Dame -- a 16-year Adidas partner who the company had previously given the most lucrative apparel contract in college sports -- leave for rivals Under Armour. (The Irish's new deal with Under Armour is now the most lucrative apparel contract in college sports, according to Notre Dame. Adidas's most expensive contract is with Michigan.)

Like Notre Dame, the Volunteers had been with Adidas for more than a decade, with the News-Sentinel writing that the relationship between the company and Rocky Top dates back to "the mid-1990s."

I'll give the uniforms a pass until I see them in action, but that logo looks like a joke. I find it surprising to see a school coming off a National Championship making such severe changes, but perhaps they feel like they have such goodwill right now that the critics will be muted.

If this does happen, most Bama fans will riot the streets of Tuscaloosa! Heck, a number of older Tennessee fans that still are stuck in the 80's had a fit over the gray uniforms that we wore and yet, they don't understand that smokey gray is in our colors as a school and have been since the 20's. The NCAA needs to pass a rule that you can use an alternate uniform ONCE a year and the rest of the time you must stick to one Home/Away set. Personally I would limit alternates to ZERO but Nike has to keep those Taiwanese kids pumping out product for slave wages.

The issue I have is not the options available, but rather the fact that there is never any consistency. The goal seems to be how many more combos you can have then your rival. I'm not a fan of gimmick and shock unis just because. I would be okay with a set-up of home, away, alternate, and retro each season. When I look back at historical football videos I always know who the teams are... that is no longer the case. I appreciate historical tradition and something is lost in this new Oregonesque era.

The worst offenders are those military tribute uniforms. How about you save the money from those eyesores and put the money to good use, like donating it to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or local Veterans. I guess all teams should start painting their fields too? That boring green color has gotten stale. Of course it must be a different color each game, yeah, woo hoo! Nothing like watching Boise State play a home game in High Definition to make me want to flip the channel.

It's an alternate that was designed around the copper-producing history of the state. So in that case, I don't care or mind that it has little to do with school colors. They're doing a cool thing with them.

As the ASU SunDevils are "my" team I don't really know how I feel about this look. I don't hate them and they wear some combos that are far worse. That being said I don't love them either. I guess I'm too old but when I think of my team I think: maroon, gold, and Sparky. The new logo has grown on me but I just wish ASU (and every other school) didn't wear a new uni every single week. IMO one home, one road, one alt, and one retro per season is the limit.

I actually agree with Bill. The only problem I have with colored fields is when a team like Boise has their uniform and field the same color -- it just doesn't make for good TV. Otherwise I have no issue

That's my only problem also. Other than that, I see no reason why a field has to be green.

The Navy football team will open the 2014 season against Ohio State on Saturday in a special Under Armour-designed uniform inspired by the iconic Navy Summer Whites military uniform. The Navy-Ohio State game will be played at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday at 12 noon.

From a helmet directly inspired by the covers that the Mids wear to a gold belt buckle, no detail was left out. Additionally, the Mids will be wearing solid white cleats that represent the all-white dress shoes of the Summer Whites military uniform, as well as all-white gloves.

For the first time, uniforms will slightly vary from player to player, with each athlete wearing their specific rank on the field, depicted in the shoulder board and pant leg design of each uniform.

Freshmen will be wearing uniforms that only have the anchor on the shoulder and pant leg, but no stripes, while sophomores will have one diagonal stripe. Juniors will have two diagonal stripes and seniors will have one parallel stripe. Damn skippy! I love that uniform! I'm gonna have to have a chat with my boss tomorrow. He's got a connection with a guy who can get uniforms and helmets and whatnot. That's how I've gotten my two Navy helmets (standard gold and their white Anchor helmet) and one of their uniforms (jersey and pants) from the 2008 Army/Navy game. Time to start getting feelers put out for this uniform, try to snag one from the guy if he gets his hands on one.

Need to put some administrators in at ASU that don't fall over every time someone complains (Indians, cross, etc.). Might help if they (or their lawyers) knew the Constitution as well.

Wouldn't the "S" in "ASU" prohibit their cause if they tried to claim the Constitution supported them promoting a religious symbol?

IMO, if the two who died were Christian and the players didn't have a problem wearing that decal (could opt out), it's a non-issue. If they were 'forced' then I think there is a potential issue, but it is not one of 'separation of church & state.' That's not even in the Constitution, but maybe Arky lawyers don't know that or the meaning of the phrase?

I see your point, I just think the 'legal' basis behind it is off-base and never should have occurred - I'm not an incorporationist. It does upset me greatly that someone, somewhere was more upset about seeing a cross versus viewing it as a memorial for fallen teammates. They made it about themselves and not others, as intended.

Back to the topic at hand:

The 'USA'-styled uniforms in full force this weekend. BYU/Houston last night, VT with helmet & field art....I'm sure many more will emerge as the weekend progresses.
