This game just got a lot more interesting after Nebraska D laid an egg against UCLA, and Arkansas State's offense is 7th in the nation.

Last week we had a decent offensive performance but special teams kept Memphis in it. I think Malzahn is being crafty with his playcalling to this point and only pulls out the guns when they're needed... he did so in the last few drives against Memphis and you could see a difference in the game. Not sure if he saves it all for conference play but I imagine with Nebraska's surprising defense this year, he's certainly considering opening the book up.

Definitely will be interesting to see but I'm not expecting too much at this point.

Can't lie, rooting for :Arkansas_State: in this one. We "little guys" gotta stick together. That and the :Southern_Miss: vs. :Nebraska: game made me .

Nah... travel wouldn't have worked out for everyone in my group so we scrapped the idea. Wish I could make it but having too little vacation time makes it harder.

nice build up and all, but Nebraska is going to do the same thing to them that Oregon did.

Maybe a few less points though LOL.

Nebraska's defense wasnt the problem. It was their inability to call at least 5 more run plays. That said, Pelini needs to not worry about upper classmen seniority and put the younger faster DB's on the field. They wouldnt have probably been beat around the edges that much that night ? They only lost by 6 to a team that is surely much better then Ark State.

Defense wasn't the problem??????

They missed a dozen+ tackles and gave up 650+ yards.

its a college game ( the amount of yards are always larger in college) . They still forced 6 punts. Its not the defenses fault that the offense didnt eat the clock and get better field position with the run game which is their strength in the first place. Nebraska was in good shape to win the game but the offense turned it over too often. And when your defense is on the field for 37 minutes, of course they get tired and beat up

No offense JB but you are not going to change Ram's opinion on this one. I already mentioned the poor defense in the Week 2 thread only to be shut down by Ram.

Never mind that they gave up 653 yards.
Forget the fact that they gave up 200+ yards to a single running back and over 340 rushing yards total.
Skip over the fact that Pelini used words like "embarrassed" and "sickened" to describe the defensive. He is just the head coach, what does he know.
Ignore where Pelini says "We didn't do anything well on the defensive side of the ball" and "Many times we had opportunities for tackles for losses and it ended up for long gains."
Who cares that they gave up more yards than RICE did to UCLA a week ago.
Take a blind eye to the fact that giving up 653 yards was the the second most ever allowed by a Nebraska defense.

I guess you have to blame that offense for everything. What was Taylor Martinez thinking when he ran 90+ yards for a TD. Poor defense had to go back onto the field too quick. Should have ran out of bounds to give the defense more time to get a breather.

but all you are doing is looking at that number for an easy answer. UCLA gave up over 400 and you dont hear defense sucked chants about it? I'm not saying the 635 isnt bad. but the defense cant be blamed for having to be on the field for 37 minutes because the offense goes 1-11 on third downs. Again, when you force the other team to punt 6 times, you are doing your job. its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.
If Neb just converts 2 first downs on offense the entire complexity of the game could well have changed. Both O n D did poorly but when you cant at least get a couple 8 down stretches to rest on the sidelines while your offense cant stay on the field, it doesnt help. All those yards and they only gave up one TD in the second half, thats not a bad thing. I was there,I saw the scnerio play out in front of me, it was a damn hot day too in California ( i'm sunburned from the tailgate ,sigh) Simply looking at 635 does not tell the whole story.
what Pelini says right after a game is meaningless. Once they looked at the film, stats etc the over all view will change..and Pelini blaming the defense when he wont put the faster DBs on the field is something Osborne should question in the immediate future. Getting beat by a redshirt freshman should change Pelini's view of evaluating talent and putting the better athletes on the field.

and its nice to know youre ok Bdoughty, what Jeff didnt mention is that I wondered if something happened to you as to why you werent around.

No poll?

It should be "Who will win?" with the options Red Wolves, Red Wolves, Who Cares?, and Maybe Nebraska won't give up 650+ yards of offense this time. :D :P

Yeah, he's a senior so he's done for the rest of his career. I think it's half to remove distraction but I think as well it's so that he can get some things in his life in order. The latest incident was that his baby's momma stole his phone and locked herself in the bathroom. He eventually broke the door down which lead to her mother calling the cops. A similar incident happened before but the charges were dropped.

Last year his father visited him from Louisiana after having a "good-bye" weekend with Allen, he killed himself in a hotel room. Between that, heart surgery as a true freshman, and having to evacuate New Orleans permanently as a result of Katrina, he's had enough issues in life that football shouldn't be a concern at this point.

Just as you said yourself, it's a bet. Bets use point spreads. That's where point spreads come from. What a ridiculous statement to say I don't while still calling it a bet. If your team can't beat a rent-a-win by the points spread, then perhaps they don't belong in an elite conference.

If you're betting on a sportsbook, you use spreads....last I checked, you're not a sportsbook.

Oregon is a top 5 team and they didn't cover against ASU.

Fair point, but surely you should expect your team to outright beat a Sun Belt team at home. I give ASU about a 20% chance and that's the homer in me. I don't wager like that when I feel I have an 80% chance to be wrong.

As TGT lawyer/judge/executioner I RULE that the best way to do it is via the spread.

A spread is much like the stock market in that it sets the fair price for any betting on a sporting event.

The current majority appears to have set the spread at 23 points

http://espn.go.com/college-football/lines

As such the TGT "BIG BET" shall be based upon a 23 point spread.

Should either party decline to wage said "BIG BET" they shall heretofore be known as "The BIG [CENSORED]"

it will make it interesting

If "they" are the Indians Red Wolves, you're correct.

Nebraska breezed to a 29 point win, which they should do against such a miserably inferior opponent.

Sorry, buddy been busy but I had to stop in to see how you were doing... How'd Saturday go for ya?

Also, Ram.... :fp: You are right that they should've run the ball more but there is absolutely no excuse & no way to spin 653 yards.

Obviously not well but honestly, we had our chances and killed ourselves. Our QB couldn't hit the 7 yard curl all day despite them being there. Added that we didn't take any shots down field and we were making it easy for Nebraska. At the end of the day though, we've got the record everyone expected us to have at this point. It hasn't necessarily been pretty getting here, but the next 9 games are the important ones (well, 8 after Alcorn State).
