If they need a road block, I'll cash a game check. Well it'd be more like a speed bump than a road block, but at this point I'm sure the Steelers will take anything.

Man I'm serious. They will be working on their 562,982 different Oline combination in the last 3 years by next week. :smh:

I don't know why the hell I never did this before now.

I read a story online two Saturdays ago about the waiting list for season tickets for Packers fans (100,000+ people on the list, and it's pretty much a "put your kids on the list and maybe they'll have tickets available for them in 50 years" type deal there).

Well, after just remembering that story and thinking about it about 20 minutes ago, I am officially on the waiting list for season tickets for the Denver Broncos. Got my confirmation email, I'm #36,315. I've seen two different estimations of 5-7 and 7-10 years on the list before you may finally have the chance to purchase. I'm gonna figure on 7-10 years, which works for me. Get the chance to eventually make my way out west and actually move to Colorado and get settled down in a career out there.

Don't get me wrong, I think he was a good pick for the Browns (though not for the price they paid). But wow, is that ever a stat.

I could never get past Weeden's age. By the time he develops his full potential (3+ years to max out talent) he will be on the decline. I would have never drafted him because of that.

Philadelphia, your offensive line is shit. It's overtime and you give up two straight sacks, and then with SEVEN BLOCKERS, you still let THREE defenders get pressure on the QB. Just goddamn pathetic.

They run the ball with him and it's DUMB. This the NFL. There's a reason why QBs don't run the ball 12 times a game.

They NEED to call someone soon. That was just bad. Vick was partly at fault on those sacks, taking his sweet time to get rid of the ball, and then on the second sack running backwards and losing however many yards. But that third down play was completely pathetic on the o-line. 7 vs. 3. Vick should have been able to just stand there and never move for as long as he wished and never feel any pressure. Instead he's being pressure within seconds and has to throw it away to avoid a sack and a safety. :smh:

It was worse the Cardinals game....and the Ravens game....and the Steelers game.

I keep hearing that the Eagles are going to go to their backup lol...he won't last long with protection like that.

Finally - a road win. With Baltimore suddenly looking vulnerable, and with 6 of their 10 remaining games at home - it's still too early to count the Steelers out of the division race.

Those Steelers throwback uniforms are hideous. The Giants game went from a snoozer (I turned away) to a thriller (I came back). How that safety missed that deep ball to Dez Bryant (he swatted and whiffed) that was inches out of bounds and inches away from a Giants loss was beyond me.

Too bad the Dolphins lost today. Couldn't watch it though as the NFL guys don't seem to want to show Miami despite the fact this game was only one of two featuring two teams above .500 and has two good rookie QBs. Plus people want to see Luck.

I've grown to really hate the Nike NFL uniform collars. The ribbing and horse collar look is bad. Not every team has the colouring around the collar but Miami does and it's ugly. I always change Miami's unis in Madden 13.

Yeah those calls were horrendous. I'll give the pass I guess for the "clip" by JPP, but the others were ridiculous. Apparently Cruz has a head on his ribs. He sold it by appearing that he was knocked out as well.

And that "fumble", Ben didn't lose possession of the ball until the end. He controlled it all the way through until he was trying to pull the ball down.

I've seen where they have rule that an incomplete pass even when the ball was dislodged while the arm was going in forward motion.

Oh well will take the W and a dominating performance on the ground. Redman had a quiet 147 yards on the ground, didn't think he had that much with his longest going for 28. Definitely will take it.

Here's a good question. Why do you go out and get Tebow and then don't use him at all? You knew coming in he was going to be a huge distraction and then you don't use him. Personally I think they could utilize him a lot more and probably have more success and I'm not talking about giving him the starting job over Sanchez(well maybe they should).

But I suppose you didn't see the Saints/Eagles game that night where the Saints defenders were running through the Eagles Offensive line towards Vick as if they were Black Friday shoppers..on Black Friday.

That post also went along with the one I posted about Coach Tomlin giving me a call because they needed extra Offensive lineman...because well all the injuries they are suffering once again to the O-line.

I was being sarcastic of course in both instances as no I did not get a sack..but they lack of blocking the Eagles did I joked that I got one too.

And no Coach Tomlin does not have my number nor am I the size of a NFL O-lineman..well by their standard anyway

I loved the story between Mike Shanahan and Al Davis in Peter King's MMQB:

And this from the feud between the late Al Davis -- who fired Mike Shanahan as coach of the Raiders after only 20 games, and balked at paying him the $250,000 remaining on his contract:

Prior to a Raiders-Niners game in 1994, when Shanahan was San Francisco's offensive coordinator, Shanahan admitted directing Steve Young to throw a football at Davis on the field during pregame warmups. Davis had wandered to the 49ers side of the field during warmups to check the team out. Players were complaining to Shanahan about it. Myers got Shanahan, now the Washington coach, to tell him the story inside his Redskins office recently.

Writes Myers:

"Guys, we'll win the game, don't worry about it. Don't let him bother you," Shanahan said.

The end of the 49ers' pregame drill took them back to their own 5-yard line. Davis was standing 35 yards away. "Hey, get him out of there," the players said to Shanahan. Shanahan was pissed at Davis for disrupting his pregame routine. And surely he was still pissed at him for not paying him the $250,000. "Now I started thinking. Okay, so we got one more play left," Shanahan said.

Shanahan is telling this story seated behind his desk at Redskins Park. It's a quiet spring day, but suddenly he's animated. On the sideline, Shanahan's face gets red, and it looks like the veins are about to pop out of his neck when he gets mad. Off the field, you rarely see his emotional side. But he had no use for Davis. Davis had embarrassed him by firing him almost without giving him a chance, and during that pregame Shanahan wanted to put a scare into his nemesis. Shanahan came up with the idea of how to send Davis back to his side of the field and needed one of his quarterbacks to be his accomplice. Young said he was more than happy to oblige.

"Throw a go route," Shanahan told Young. "If you happen to hit that guy in the white outfit with the ball, you won't make me mad." The receiver was Jerry Rice. He ran the go route. Shanahan didn't really want to drill Davis. But if it happened, maybe he would never stand on the 49ers' side of the field again. Of course, if he hit Davis, Shanahan would never get his $250,000. Young dropped back to pass. He threw the ball in Davis' direction. Rice, whom Shanahan did not bring into the loop on this little bit of mischief, was running downfield, looking up for the ball. He was not looking at Davis. He didn't see Davis. Shanahan saw the ball. He saw the receiver. He saw Davis. All three were about to occupy the same spot. Shanahan thought Davis saw the ball coming. He did not.

"Oh, my God," Shanahan said. "I wanted to scare him. I didn't want to kill him." The ball and the receiver were closing in on Davis. "Al realizes that the ball and everybody is coming at him about five yards before there is going to be contact," Shanahan said. "I think he's going to be run over. And he dives; he actually dives out of the way. Well, half of our players see what happens, and they are all laughing." Young drilled Davis in the leg.

It was not surprising that he found his target. Young completed 64.3 percent of his passes in his career. "Ten years after this happened, I was walking out of a stadium on a Monday night, and Al came up to me," Young said. "He told me that he knew it was me." Young told Davis that he was ashamed of himself, more so than with anything else he had ever done. He then sent him a letter of apology.

Shanahan is so fired up that he gets out of his seat to finish the story. He loves this story. It was revenge. He explains in great detail Davis diving on the grass at Candlestick Park, getting to his feet, his hair falling down in front of his face. Davis stared him down from 35 yards away and gave him the middle finger.

The Dolphins offense is horrible. Not sure why they can't get their running game going at all but the OL has taken steps backwards the last month+. Teams used to blitz Tannehill and they were getting some plays. Now they learned to just rush 4 and watch the Dolphins crappy and slow WRs go nowhere. Awful offensive football. The Bills were one of the worst defenses in football and they looked dominant out there. Very painful.

The Browns uniforms are classic but they are classically ugly in a lot of ways. Who likes brown or orange as their favourite colour? I wouldn't want them to change it too much or the colour scheme but a little updating wouldn't hurt. The Dolphins are changing their uniforms next year too. I hope they go with 70s style throwbacks.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Colts mascot, Blue, issued a challenge to Colts Cheerleaders – if they could raise $10,000 for leukemia by Nov. 25, one cheerleader would shave her head in honor of Head Coach Chuck Pagano. They reached their goal.

Megan M. accepted the challenge and on Sunday she will allow Blue to shave her head during the third quarter of the Colts game against the Buffalo Bills.

Blue and Megan raised $22,670 over the past two weeks.

Megan stopped by and spoke with our sister station, WISH TV's Daniel Miller about Sunday.

"I've just had personal experiences with people who have had cancer," she said. "I've had mentors and family members and volunteer at Riley and met little girls who have lost their hair and beat cancer multiple times. Just seeing struggles they went through and how they could overcome that and still have confidence and fight this fight without their hair - they are really my inspiration for doing this."

Also over the last two weeks, Great Clips locations have given fans the opportunity to shave their heads. For each fan who stepped up, Great Clips donated $10 to Blue’s ChuckStrong Challenge. 800 fans shaved their heads.

To date, more that $250,000 has been raised for leukemia research in Chuck Pagano’s honor

Way to fuck up your draft stock Brownies. :fp: If your team sucks (and the Brownies do suck), then when you're in line for a top 3 or top 5 draft pick, you don't sit there winning and knocking off teams/rivals like Pittsburgh and pissing away a top draft pick. Not going to happen. No matter how terrible a team is, they simply do not suck for a high draft pick in the NFL (unlike the NBA). Washington was in that situation last year (the suck for Luck sweepstakes) and, numerous times, Mike Shanahan and the players said they will do whatever is necessary to win a game, no matter what the record is and what's at stake in the draft. It's just never going to happen.

Yeah, it's true. But for some, it wouldn't hurt. They massively suck already, and anything they have tried in the past has failed, may as well try to build up through the draft. If you have a true franchise player in the upcoming draft, and you have someone with an actual brain when it comes to drafting talent for the rest of the draft, what a turn around a team could make, if they suck it up enough to get one of those top picks.

Take the Browns. Right now at 3-8, the Browns would draft 5th. They play Oakland and Kansas City these next two weeks, two teams that also suck massively, if not more than Cleveland. Cleveland could conceivably be 5-8 going into the final three weeks of the season. So in two weeks, depending on how the other massively sucking teams do, Cleveland very well could be sitting outside the top 10, even around 15 in draft pick order. While you'll still draft a good player in the 10-15 draft slots, it won't be a team changing franchise player like you'd get (or at least hope to get if they don't bust) in the top 3 or top 5.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8720551/roger-goodell-floats-idea-end-kickoffs-report-says

Last season, the NFL moved kickoffs from the 30-yard line to the 35 and required the coverage unit to start within 5 yards of the ball, closing the distance between the teams. Both rules had their desired effects. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, 16.4 percent of kickoffs led to touchbacks in 2010; last year it was 43.5 percent. The NFL found that players suffered 40 percent fewer concussions on kickoffs in 2011

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8720551/roger-goodell-floats-idea-end-kickoffs-report-saysI'd heard this proposed by various writers over the last few years, though the 4th-and-15 aspect is new (and makes sense as a way to get the onside kick factor still available). I'm in favor. Punts are definitely less violent/injury-prone than kickoffs. But the kickoff specialist would be gone.

Rudy
12-08-2012, 05:49 PM
That is an interesting rule. Not crazy about starting a game with punt though. I much prefer if the receiving team gets a chance to just start at their own 20 or 25. I would not have a punt and only allow the team that just scores to try and convert a 4th and 15 on their own 30 as an onside elective. Punts are the most boring plays in football IMO.

jaymo76
12-09-2012, 02:49 PM
Count me in as 100% opposed to anything that would remove kick offs from the game. Special teams is one of the best parts of the game because it is so unpredictable. Try to eliminate injuries all you want but the reality is in contact sports people will get hurt. If players choose to play then they choose to face the risks associated with said sport.

I know Big Ben takes his shots while trying to extend plays but I gotta give him props for when he tucks the ball the goes up the field. He almost always slides down before contact taking what they give him. RGIII could really benefit from this thought process. Sure it's nice to break a big run and what not, but if your going to stand any chance of playing in the NFL long term at a high level you gotta protect yourself. This isn't college players trying to tackle you.

I say good! That puts Denver now only one game back of Houston for the top seed in the AFC, and tied with New England (who gets the #2 seed due to head to head, the fuckers). Some lose-able games these last few weeks for the Patriots and Texans, while the only true challenge left for Denver is Baltimore. Otherwise, the Broncos face Cleveland and Kansas City. The #2 seed is VERY much in play for Denver, and even the top seed isn't outside the realm of possibility.

JBHuskers

Top seed will be tough as New England has the tie breaker. Houston has two out of the next three against Indy. I'm sure the Colts are very fired up to be in the hunt for the division still.

If San Francisco does their job and beats New England next week, and Denver beats Baltimore, that'll put Denver in the driver's seat for #2 as they'll have just Cleveland and Kansas City remaining, two games they damn well should win. So there's a chance of finishing one game ahead of New England for the #2 spot. #1 would take a mini-miracle, either the Colts sweeping the Texans or the Colts winning one and the Vikings stealing one.

Goodell didn't step away voluntarily. His comments before and during his rulings indicated bias. Even in the case of binding arbitration awards can be overturned if the arbitrator was shown to be biased. Roger was biased from the beginning. His act was getting destroyed in court and he had to step aside. He lost big time in this case and passed off the case to Tags to try and save face.

I must have totally missed that somewhere. I'll readily admit that I rarely read anything about what's happening in the NFL as I couldn't give two shit less about what another team is doing. All I know is Goodell and his flunkies fucked the Redskins and the Cowboys out of capspace without doing the same thing to the 5 or 6 other teams that ALSO did exactly what the Redskins and Cowboys did and Jerry Jones pussied out of doing anything about it like the piece of shit that he is.

Beyond that, I don't give a fuck what happens to who. It just blew me mind that the previous commissioner had any say on anything happening now.

Rudy

I still can't believe the Cowboys and Redskins got penalized for "abusing the cap" in an uncapped year. The only thing they violated were the unwritten rules of collusion the other owners agreed upon to keep player costs down.

The Dolphins have actually been a bit better than I thought they would be after starting a rookie QB all year. Their defense has been really good. The CBs stink right now and they still haven't found a pass rusher outside of Wake but they have played well. The OL isn't good enough yet and they still lack playmakers at WR and TE. I am worried about Tannehill though. He's adapted faster than I thought and has been very smart. My biggest concern is his accuracy. He just misfires too often. He missed a wide open Hartline twice against the Pats. He's also failed to be accurate at important times. The coaches seem to make excuses for him and Mike Mayock likes what he's seen so far so I will just hope he pans out.

I doubt he will be back unless he takes a big pay cut. The Dolphins don't use him right as they barely use him in the passing game. They keep him in to pass protect too much and he's not good at it. He dances too much in the hole for my tastes.

That article says Lamar Miller would be a downgrade but I disagree. He hasn't learned all his pass protections which the Dolphins coaches demand of all the backs but he is probably the best pure runner. I think Bush is gone. The Dolphins have a ton of cap room but also some key guys to resign.

seattle has a lot of USC fans, which people dont expect, and if bush came to seattle, he would be boo'd out of the stadium. plus, there's not really a need for bush. lynch carries the workload. turbin is built like a fricken horse and washington fulfills the special teams returns. the only area that he'd improve on, would be as a pass catching RB out of the backfield.

YES!!! Thank you 49ers! Down goes that bitch Brady, and the Broncos now have sole possession of the #2 seed in the AFC, with two very winnable games remaining, both at home against Cleveland and Kansas City, giving Denver the edge to keep the #2 seed regardless of what New England does these last two weeks. The Broncos also have an outside shot at the #1 seed, if somehow Houston loses both of their remaining games, with Denver only sitting one game back at the moment.

Unfortunately not. All people will give a shit about are RGIII and Luck. Sure, they had great years, and at least in Luck's case (and possibly likely RGIII's case), led their teams to the playoffs, but that some other player had a more standout or bigger year won't mean shit to them. I remember a psychologist doing tests on Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf. The guy the Chargers hired to do homework on the kids gave them personality tests. Said Manning was like Montana - ideal in every way mentally. Compared Leaf to Mitchell and flat out told Bobby Beathard not to draft him. But they already traded up to take one of the two and stuck with it. He said afterwards he regretted it. A big black mark at the end of a good career although I don't know how he wasn't criticized a lot more for constantly trading away future first rounders for second rounders. A foolish credit card mentality.

I think Luck is getting a lot of the benefit of the doubt since he was the #1 pick and praised tremendously during his college career and during the draft. I truly think people are looking at this argument through draft tinted goggles. There is NO way Luck should get the nod over RG3 imo. His QB rating is amongst the worst of all the QBs in the NFL. There may be valid reasons for that but you simply cannot ignore his 18 INTs and only a 55% completion rate. He has produced clutch wins but so has RG3.

And that "first #1 QB to lead his team to the playoffs line" has little weight in my book. Hell Joe Flacco lead his team to the playoffs his rookie season...shit Mark Sanchez went to a AFC title game his rookie season. Granted they weren't drafted #1 or #2 but they should just quiet that noise there. Seems like there is a stat for everything.

I'd say it would be RGIII easily, then Luck and Wilson close to one another. I'd even say give the nod to Wilson. He wasn't even suppose to start on his own team, much less get drafted to play QB due to his "lack" of height. He just led a shellacking of a team who is "believed" to have the best Defense in the league, in which they can pass to win the division this weekend should the Niners lose and they win.

Also no knew Alfred Morris would be who he is. Vick Ballard isn't that bad either BTW. The Colts aren't playing with a bunch of scrubs either, they were just a QB away from doing what they are currently doing.

AP is shiftier than Bo from what my memory tells me although Bo was bigger. Both are freaks.

Barry Sanders used to annoy the crap out of me with his constant looking for big plays. It led to a lot of negative runs but there is no running back in the history of the league that compares to Barry. He was probably the most elusive RB the NFL has ever seen but he also had the size and tremendous leg strength and balance to break a ton of tackles. I've only seen highlights of Gale Sayers but I don't think he's anywhere near Barry in terms of moves and elusiveness. He just doesn't have a comparable imo. Not saying that makes him better than AP or Bo but they are so different it's hard to compare. Barry would have all of the records if he didn't retire early.

AP is shiftier than Bo from what my memory tells me although Bo was bigger. Both are freaks.

Barry Sanders used to annoy the crap out of me with his constant looking for big plays. It led to a lot of negative runs but there is no running back in the history of the league that compares to Barry. It use to piss me off to see the Lions take him out of the game when they got inside the redzone.

Yeah I give Barry a lot of credit for sticking it out in Detroit. Put him on a good team and he probably crushes all the records. We might not have gotten some of his memorable plays as he used to make something out of nothing.

I think though if Bo stays healthy who knows what he could have done.

Also have to throw Jim Brown into the mix, another one that retired way early.

AP compares best to Earl Campbell in terms of physical ability I think. Physical ability of WR's is hard to rank though.

Everyone is forgetting Jim Brown. That dude was a man among boys and, by far, the most physically gifted RB to ever play the game. Peterson runs a LOT like him, but Brown is still the best RB to ever play the game.

If Barry has Emmitt Smith's line he'd definitely easily had all the records.

Barry was on pace to DESTROY all the rushing records if he played for just 3 more years. His yearly average was 1527 yards. Taking into account his age and the possible decline of his abilities (as well as how even more atrocious Detroit was becoming), he would have been right at around 18,500 or 19,000 after 3 more years. One would have to assume that he would have had, at least, 1,100 yards per season, which means, even at that measly output (least amount of yards in a season he would have ever had), he still would have more yards rushing than Emmitt retired with (18,569 compared to Emmitt's 18,355).

Of course, you project Jim Brown out to where he'd be if he hadn't retired and you'd have your first 20k rushing club member.

On another that controller is hilarious :D. Wonder if "wierd" was spelled like that on purpose.

Good question. Well Bo is definitely #1 there. IMO, if we're not talking about production, but physical talent.

Barry would fit into both production and physical talent.

Same with Walter and Earl Campbell.

I agree with all of this except that Campbell fits the production side. His career was very short (78-84 or 85, iirc). That said, I had a tough time accepting him as a HOFer until someone said, "he did things that no one had ever done before". That I can't argue with and I completely accept him as a HOFer when you weigh it all (production, talent, style) now.

I have no idea, but with 5 college bowl games today, eh, no NFL game isn't too big of a deal for me this year. It could also be because of the bowl games that the NFL isn't playing today. NCAA gets today, takes tomorrow off, NFL takes today off and keeps all the games limited to Sunday.

Yeah I think it's that odd timing on the calendar this year where there are a lot of bowl games today, and New Years Eve on Monday.

all the thursdays probably took its place and the NCAA put the bowl games on today in place and probaly something to do with when New Years day falls this time....?

Yeah, they lost a couple days last week, with nothing on Sunday and Christmas Day, only one game Monday night and lose this Sunday as well. It works though. Only a handful of NFL games this week that are being played for something, and those they'd probably want to keep on Sunday to begin with. So may as well let the bowl games rule today.

:D Hey, Denver was lollygagging around in the first quarter and a half. They only finally started getting their heads out of their ass and running up the score in the second.
