View Full Version : Questions going into 2012

Ryby brought up a good question that we have talked about in the past:

Rules on talking players into staying.

So let's try to make a ruling on this topic and post anything else you would like to bring up.

If you're going to do it, this would be the time to do it. In the past, we've made the mistake of not talking about this until Season 2 or Season 3, and then that's putting players at a disadvantage versus Season 1. Since I've always been one of the guys talking about it, I can't help but respond here.

The simplest rule would be that players above a certain X can't be talked back into returning. Any more complex rule (like you can only use a certain amount of time) would be 100% reliant on the honor system. And not that I don't trust the other guys, but ... I don't trust the other guys :D

In possible addition to "above a certain X", there's a consideration for certain award winners (Heisman, Maxwell, Bednarik, etc) not being allowed to being talked back.

Vernon is the one I am worried about. He is only an 85 but he won the Nagurski(I believe). Miller finished 2nd in every award and is only an 89. Other than that, the only player that may be a problem as far as leaving is Armstrong.

Well Jeff that would easily be tracked since you can see on the website now the time remaining for recruiting and you can see how many players are leaving for each team.

Here's a thread (http://www.thegamingtailgate.com/forums/showthread.php?1745-Off-Season-2014) where we had a discussion on this a year ago. Oneback proposed 90+, there was some objection and call for 94+ or 95+, but no consensus really reached.

That wouldn't work so well.

This is true and I guess if there was one player you really really wanted to keep and one you could part with you could do that.

Since Landry Jones is a 94, I vote for 95+ :)

Here is my reasoning behind going with 90+, here in a season or two we are all going to be bragging about how we have 15-20+ 90 OVR players, the problem with this is the games against the CPU then become blow outs. I'll even add a modifier to this, if you have one 90+ OVR player that is wanting to leave you can try to get him back, however anything above one 90+ OVR you can only talk to half of them (must be designated prior to trying). If the number of 90+ OVR players trying to leave is an odd number, the total number of players then gets rounded down to the nearest even number and you are only able to talk to half of that number - ie: if you have 5 90+ OVR players trying to leave, you will only be able to talk to 2 of those players.

Thoughts?

That is fine with me. How about award winners?

I like 95 overall....plenty of award winners come back

I have an 85 ovr award winner at MLB....that would be cruel :(

Yeah, I'm not so much worried about award winners.

Yeah, I have an 85 ovr DE that won an award. :D

I could vote for that OB, 90 overall and you can keep or talk to half of them.

90+ is fine by me. Let the all go or half, either way

Fence-sitterIndeed. Two reasons for that 1) I'm "new" to the OD and 2) I can get more out of lower skill players than anyone else; I don't need high-rated CPU players making plays for me :)

Speaking of new, who's lazydayz44 and is he staying with NMSU?

What are the thoughts about lessening the quarter length?

Lazydayz44 is a referral from RYBY, I've sent him a message about sticking with NMSU so we'll see.

It's up for discussion, but I am liking the quarter length.

Lazydayz is actually razorback44 but he has 2 names so he can be in more dynasties. I have been in multiple OD's with him and he is a good guy to have in all around.

I vote for 8 minutes....but I like to run the ball so it doesn't matter either way.

I wouldn't want to go too much lower, maybe 8. 9 sometimes seems a little too long when playing the CPU at times. Especially when playing bad teams.

Of course it probably doesn't matter what we decide since Snoop broke the OD

Sorry for not introducing myself sooner. I was waiting for the offseason before jumping in. Didn't want to interrupt the flow of your current year. Like ryby said, I am a referral from him. Been playing in OD's for a couple of years with him and was looking for a group of sim guys to finish out the year to play with. I know a lot of you guys from reputation alone on the boards so I am excited to join this league and play with some of the top sim guys.

Definitely not staying with NMSU lol. I was just trying to join as a team that didn't have a bowl game so I could scope out the rosters of available teams and not mess any bowl matchups up.

I feel the same as G. I can win with lesser ovr rated players as you can see from my season with Clemson playing w/o my starting QB, RB, and Sammy Watkins for the majority of the season. As long as the players fit my system I'm good. I know lazydayz from the days we were in a utopia dynasty together a couple years ago. He's a good sim player.

Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing - OVR means nothing if the player doesn't fit what your asking them to do. It's those 90+ OVR players that fit exactly what you want the to do that hurt to lose.

BTW - Razorback is taking Iowa.

Dont worry Jeff, we all know he can't get past OB :)Yet, if it wasn't for OB, I wouldn't have had a winning record on NCAA 11 ;)

I'm just glad I was undefeated on NCAA 12. About the only positive there was for me on that one.

Just FYI, looks like we're done with bowl season but if Papa still has to wait until the weekend, I'm going to be out of town Friday, Saturday, & most of Sunday. I won't be back until late Sunday night, like 8pm CT at the earliest. Just a heads up.

Nah....I quit my 2nd job back in April....I'm down any night. My only problem now is playing user games at home so I have to go to my Mom or Dad's house to use their internet connection.

That loss to OB STILL hurts. Being outscored 23-0 in the last 11 minutes of gameplay is NOT how you want a national title shot snatched from you.
