We'll have a new one each month, open for all to give feedback.

If we missed something in the previous month's thread, post again here. Feedback can be anything, ranging from smilies to new content idea, etc. Feel free to PM if you don't want to post an idea publicly.

Wouldn't mind that being set either. Beauty of most of forum software is you're really not limited in how many emoticons you can set.

LOL I wonder if CDJ fixed that then. :P cuz for a while you had to use lowercase p

Yeah, that had to have just been recent. I had the same problem only a few days ago, using uppercase P and it not working, instead having to use lowercase p. All the forums that I visit regularly all use the uppercase P, so it was really messing with me. :D

I think they have, and I think they decided against it. But I could be wrong.

I don't like chat boxes on forums. It usually leads to random jibberish, which in turn leads to being a waste of server space. It also encourages people to use that rather than contribute to the threads on the forums.

Maybe the chatbox can be limited to finding immediate online games?

cdj
07-03-2010, 12:35 PM
Right now, we've decided against a chatbox for the reasons IOU mentioned. Though, maybe we can look into a way to a better way to find quick matches if that ends up being an issue after release. Thanks for the feedback. Every idea is welcome.

What if the chatbox was only a perk for donators? I mean if they donated I'm pretty sure they will still contribute to the website.

I agree as well. Never understood the reason for chat boxes.

If you're trying to find a random game with someone, just become their friend on PSN/XBL and talk there. WAY more simple than a chat box IMO.

Did you guys look into what OS has done in terms of their program for creating an HTML box score for dynasty reports?

http://dynasties.operationsports.com/index.php

It may not be necessary (particularly if you can easily copy/paste your Dynasty Wire stuff over here). However, if not I'd really like to be able to either use a similar TGT program or be able to copy/paste from the OS program to the dynasty section here.

That would be awesome if you guys are able to do something like that. I don't know how easy or simple it will be to take Dynasty Wire stuff and bring them over here and put into posts, so if they don't translate over to this forum very well, that would end up being a HUGE help and much faster than tabling everything piece by piece.

Sitting here watching the World Cup and it dawned on me a possible fun way to kick off the new game might be a TGL Cup. Set up just like the World Cup the top 32 Teams by OVR rating in the tourny. The First 32 to sign up for the PS3 and 360 would be in and a draft of teams could be had at random.

Or we could do some sort of qualifying type thing, then the people with the most points make it to the TGL Cup, but every round would be a knockout round instead of a group stage then knockout round.

Kind of a small thing, but when you go to new posts, all of the wishlist threads all look the same.

May I suggest placing the category first (ie Teambuilder - NCAA Football 12 Wishlist and Feedback) or simply shortening the names?

I'll see what we can do. I am not sure what happens when users upload more than the allowed number of clips - if the old ones stick around (hidden) or if they get deleted. If they get deleted, we'd be left with a lot of dead videos.

I haven't tested it, but Ive heard you can upload FLV files directly to YouTube now. Users may want to download the file off EAsports.com and then upload to a YT account so it doesn't get lost.

Yah because the max is only three I think for NCAA 11. Used to be five, but I think it changed this year.

I'm fairly certain that there are plugins available, however I think cdj is right that Youtube might be a better option just simply to be able to archive them. I just tested it and you can actually upload directly from EASW to youtube if you find the .flv file name inside the embed code. For example, I've bolded the .flv file name in the embed code below:

<img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyNzkwNDk5OTg4MDUmcHQ9MTI3OTA1MDAxOTM1Mi ZwPTk1MDcxJmQ9Jmc9MSZvPTcyNjNlNTk1ZGNiNjQ2M2Y5YTlj/NDdjZGQxZjhhNGVmJm9mPTA=.gif" /><object width="640" height="360"><param name="wmode" value="transparent" valuetype="data" /><param name="movie" value="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/188.13.7/flash/mdMediaPlugin/mediaplayer.swf?file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2011/ncaa11/31568566/662A0001_2_FLV_VIDEO_OCM.flv&link=http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/22268196&linkfromdisplay=true&linktarget=_top&image=" valuetype="data" /><embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/188.13.7/flash/mdMediaPlugin/mediaplayer.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2011/ncaa11/31568566/662A0001_2_FLV_VIDEO_OCM.flv&link=http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/22268196&linkfromdisplay=true&linktarget=_top&image="></embed></object><div style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><a href="http://www.easports.com/" target="_top" shape="rect">EA Sports</a>: <a href="http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/22268196" target="_top" shape="rect">NCAA Football 11 Video</a></div>

What I did was simply copy the filename and then when Youtube asked me to select the file to upload, I just simply pasted that file name and it uploaded it as normal. It did say that there was an issue with the audio codec but since there's no audio included, that's most likely the cause and really doesn't matter anyway. The whole process took probably 2 minutes or so. Here's an example:

The downfall is that it definitely loses a touch in quality. We'll keep looking at options for embedding directly from EASW, however, since you can only keep 5 videos at a time, it might not be the best solution. Certainly would like to hear some feedback from you guys.

last year I converted the videos and uploaded to photobucket. however, they switch over to a new player, and it seems to lag a bit at the beginning of the video(not sure if it just my PC or what) and with these videos being only 9 or so second longs, it's kind of a big deal.

Ok it may be only having this problem but it is increasingly getting frustrating.

When I writing a post the message box will keep scolling up whenever I move the mouse cursor down. I went to highlight some text that was at the end of the post so I could bold it and underline, but everytime I moved down to the line the box would jump up.

Yeah, it did that to me as well. Really annoying. And I don't think it's just the first post in the thread. I think it's the first post on the new page cause I'm pretty sure I had that issue on page 3 of my SAU dynasty reports as well.

You know what, you're correct. Looking at both your dynasty and HB's Prairie Dogs dynasty, you can tell in both that the first post on each new page is being forced over like there are narrower margins in that first post or something.

Off-topic ... the mobile skin that I see on my older-generation phones is absolutely horrid. Actually, horrid doesn't begin to cover it. For reasons unknown, the entire forum gets covered in red. Not to say this needs fixed, as I'm probably the only fool trying that, but it may be worth looking around to see if it's common.

My assumption is that Iron has the basic idea of it... however it's not that "because it has work, it must be work", but rather since it doesn't have sports or gaming or similar, it's not automatically flagged. The thing is though, it can still be flagged manually by the designer of the software and then obviously will be inaccessible. For example... my old OD site, sbcol.net was rather quickly flagged by Websense. There might be more to it but again, that's my assumption.

JeffHCross
07-22-2010, 12:12 PM
I'm pretty sure OSatWork is flagged by the majority of systems out there. OS's main domain doesn't have anything in it that would auto-flag it either ... it's just a content check. OSatWork would be the same way.

Yeah hell if I know why, I just assumed it had something to do with not have "game" in the title, I can even get to Utopia (NCAA Strategies), we can even get ESPN but anything that has do with the word game we cant get.

I can open goozex but I cant click on recent games or I go to a block screen. So my vote would go to the word "game".

I use the "What's New" tab nearly exclusively. It'd be great if there were a way for me to block threads that I'll never post in from populating there. I realize that's probably not possible, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Alternatively, it would be nice if threads with generic titles (ie General Discussion) were given specific titles (ie PS3 TGT OD General Discussion) so my lazy ass wouldn't have to look over at what forum it's in to know whether or not it pertains to me.

Great job with the site overall guys. I'm still very happy to call this place home. Thanks for all your effort!

One thing we can do for point #2 is make sure to name threads in a little more detail.

One request I have is if we can get the Whats new tab at the bottom of the page also if it's possible.

Hmmm....I don't know if that's possible, but we'll see what we can do.

I agree with the name changes. Too many "General Discussion" threads. That's why I specifically created the Dynasty General Discussion with that name.

Seconded. I'd also be happy with the ability to block whole forums I'd never actually visit. Either way, it's definitely more of a luxury feature. Maybe it should be a donator perk. ;) Seriously though, I'm just happy to not have to click through all the forums individually.

I took notice and give you kudos for that!

I'm pretty sure OSatWork is flagged by the majority of systems out there. OS's main domain doesn't have anything in it that would auto-flag it either ... it's just a content check. OSatWork would be the same way.

My worksite has not found osatwork and it found this place in a week. It blocks virtually everything. I think it's something more complicated than just having a name change. I don't know what that is but I do know that OS does care a lot about keeping osatwork from being blocked.

I've suddenly lost the ability to send PMs. I can't even use "Go Advanced" in a PM now. I can read them, but no send.

Is your inbox full? I don't think any of us touched permissions, but I'll take a look.

Seems to work now. May have been a momentary permissions or site problem. When it was redirecting to the php for sending the message, it was failing. I wasn't getting an actual error ... just, basically, a 404.

Interestingly enough, OS and OSatWork have identical meta keywords, etc. So you're telling me the only thing getting their website blocked is the domain name initially? Seems to me the keywords would also get it blocked since it mentions video games.

But sometimes filters and blocks have nothing to do with categorization and everything to do with content. For example, 106.5 WEND (I use this as an example since I know you're from Charlotte) has the following categories, according to my filter at work: Radio, Audio Stream, Adult Content. Now, I will be the first to admit that The End is one of the more adult sites/stations out there. But I'd presume it would take a content-check to actually see that.

I would guess that OSAtWork was created long after OperationSports was banned on most work filters. OSAtWork was probably never reviewed/reported/requested for review. OperationSports probably got enough traffic in the early days of filters or when it first started to generate a review. A content check would easily do them in.

TGT, for how quickly it was categorized, was probably just keywords.

Well you've got to love working at a place with no filters and blocks. Of course since my major and working deals with IT, I highly doubt I'm going to filter myself.... or anyone, actually. ;)

I'm glad I work for Clear Channel Radio. I can visit pretty much any site I could desire to. There are no filters or blocks anywhere on our systems. :D

Hey, I'm not gonna complain. Makes getting through some long, slow, boring days so much easier when I visit various sites like this thanks to no blocks and filters. :) I'm going to become very sad if our market's IT guy ever gets the bright idea of putting filters on our systems.
