Oh I hope Colorado does better this year. The Rockies have been sucking it up hardcore all season, I'm not expecting more than 5 wins, 6 tops out of the Broncos, and with the NBA currently on lockout, there's not even anything to hope or expect from the Nuggets. That just leaves the Avalanche. :(

It sure has been slim pickings for the Avalanche in recent seasons. I grew up as a Montreal Canadiens fan--living close to Québec, we got Canadian TV and I watched the games with my grandparents--and that's how I started following Patrick Roy. When he left to join the Avalanche, I became a fan of the new Colorado club. Some pretty great teams in the late 90's/early 2000's. I took particular joy in Raymond Bourque having to leave the Bruins to go to the Avalanche and finally lift Lord Stanley's Cup.

The Avs youth movement played out pretty well 2 years ago, but last year the ol' Sophomore Slump got them. I'd guess the young guys will take a step forward and that the Giguere/Varlamov combination in net will be better than Anderson/Budaj.

Somewhat??

Bryzgalov won 78 games in the last 2 years in PHOENIX. He's much more than somewhat good. We'll see how Philly gels with all of the changes they've made, but I expect they'll be very stout.

Well you've see the goalie situation the past few years....it could end up like Mushin Muhammed going to the Bears :D

I don't think anyone really thought he'd excel as a Bear :D

I have been pleased to hear and read about Crosby skating full speed these last two practices. That is very good news.

Also :sf: did you read that article about MacIntyre? Should say clip, but it should be fun seeing these guys enforcing their will upon opposing teams

Pens beat the Red Wings, 3-2, in their preseason opener tonight. Malkin had a goal and an assist. Good to see him play well after last season's knee injury.

And snoop, no, I never looked up that clip.

EDIT: Forgot to mention TK's 3-point night (1-2). I'm hoping he builds off of his 21 goal season last year.

LOL hey, maybe with the NBA strike ESPN and others including local channels and fox sports etc will push more NHL games shown / I would personally love that since I cant affored season packages and stuff and my Direct-tv still wants extra for versus and stuff damnit

SmoothPancakes
09-26-2011, 08:07 PM
Considering the NHL just signed a 10 year, $2 billion national TV rights contract with NBC and Versus back in April, what you suggest will never happen. Besides, ESPN has shown how much they care (not a damn bit) about hockey.

NBC/Versus fought off bids from Fox, Turner and ESPN, with the self-proclaimed Worldwide Leader in Sports reportedly dropping out at the end of the negotiations. The ESPN offer reportedly consisted of one nationally televised game per week on ESPN2, so in comparison to what Versus currently brings in terms of coverage, ESPN wasn't willing to go very far.

LOL ok, wonderful dude, you looked up some contract info...ultimately my point is, local channels, cities with both B-ball and hockey teams...the NHL should use this and local/individual owners should use this to gain a few percentage points of hockey interest- ads etc..and regardless of what ESPN has with the NHL or not, they are going to have to show more hockey highlights if this continues...sure, most b-ball fans arent hockey fans, but you have to try something, you cant let this opportunity pass...heck, the hockey channel should be part of a basic package as well if you want to generate interest.

I'm just saying you need something to fill the gap ...no one cares about b-ball till after January anyway. its all football till then

The Kings are fun to watch. I like watching San Jose, too. Not all of the Cali teams are tough to watch.

Speaking of NHL GameCenter Live, I need to decide by the 29th if I'm going to renew or not. It's $159. I should probably stick to watching games on the internet, but it will be tough for me to say "no".

Though, the ability to listen to the Penguins on iheartradio helps.

Good win, they looked pretty darn good (well what I watched anyways :fp:)

My damn streaming was terrible. It would lock up my PS3 at different times. As it happened there were 4 goals scored each time it happened though.

Another interesting part, I'm watching it through my PS3 streaming it and :sf: is watching it on Versus and I have to refrain from showing my emotions on certain things because he is behind me?? How in the **** is that even possible?

JBHuskers
10-07-2011, 08:24 AM
So that explains why you were going on and offline like Eric. ROW! ROW! ROW!

Flyers looked great last night. Jagr didn't mess around for too long in getting his 1600th point by assisting Giroux in the 1st. Brzygalov might be what Philly has been looking for to get over that hump. Hopefully.

Absolutely. Sucked to take the OTL last night after leading for like 50 minutes, but oh well.

The PP converted their first chance, but went like 0-7 after that, including a 5-minute PP after Edmonton took a Major with just over 4 minutes to go in regulation. With no Malkin, the PP looked like it did at the tail end of last year. :fp:

That a way Avalanche! Took OT, but beat Toronto 3-2 tonight. The Avs go 5-0 on the road and capped the first undefeated 5-game road trip in Avalanche history! Colorado now has a two-point lead in the West and returns home to host Chicago on Thursday, with a return trip to Chicago on Saturday.

On the road trip, the Avs took down Boston 1-0, beat Columbus 3-2 (SO), defeated Ottawa 7-1, edged out Montreal 6-5 (SO), and tonight's 3-2 OT win at Toronto.

Yes, but he was lifted for Bryzgalov 24 minutes in. Bobrovsky stopped only 10/15, but Bryzgalov was no better (6/10).

For the season, Bryzgalov has a 3.45 GAA, and a .870 SV%, Bobrovsky sits at 3.75 and .859.

Letestu to Columbus for a 4th Round pick.

Eric, I agree with what you texted me about opening a roster spot for Crosby, I'm just not sure that is why they made this trade (I'm reasonably certain Letestu was on a 2-way contract). Regardless, Friday night's game with Dallas will be interesting (top 2 teams in the league). If Crosby is indeed in the lineup - oh boy!

It's really crazy that 8 of the top 9 teams in the league are from the Atlantic or Central divisions. The only one in the top 9 that's not from those 2 divisions is Vancouver.

That makes me wonder 2 things. How good would those 8 be, if they were spread out and not continually beating each other? Also, how good is Vancouver? I wonder what their record is against the top 9. Are they there legitimately, or are they just beating up on the bottom feeders?

This (apparent) imbalance is going to make the playoffs more interesting than usual. I've followed the NHL closely since the mid 80s and I don't remember anything quite like this.

Evgeni Malkin won his 2nd career Art Ross Trophy. It gave Pittsburgh their 14th ART in the last 24 years. Pittsburgh has more of these awards than any other franchise (Montreal 9) even though the award existed for 20 years before the Penguins began playing.

Penguins notable career highs reached in 11-12:

Malkin: 50 G, 9 GWG
Neal: 40 G, 41 A, 81 P, 18 PPG, 4 GWG*
Kunitz: 26 G, 35 A*, 61 P
Dupuis: 25 G, 34 A, 59 P, 8 GWG
Staal: 50 P, 5 PPG
Letang: 10 G*, 4 PPG*, 3 GWG*
Cooke: 19 G, 4 GWG*
Fluery: 42 W

When 6 of your veteran regulars reach career bests in goals, it's a good year.
