Eh, I probably won't be watching any of the games as I have a 'Skins preseason game to watch instead.

Really, almost all of the games tonight suck. I'll be watching North Texas-Florida International on ESPN3, and will DVR UMass-Holy Cross since I need to go up to work tonight, and the later I take to go, in the longer into the night I have to sit up there, and I can't say I feel like sitting at work until 3 or 4am.

Overall, really a disappointing opening night. :smh:

Can't wait for tomorrow.

There are some interesting matchups today. Especially FBC vs FCS

You have Villanova which made the Semis of last years playoffs against a Temple team that had a winning season. Last year Temple only won this game by 7.

Montana State beat Colorado a few years ago and they were fairly descent last year so Utah better be on it's toes.

First look at Russell Wilson is the most interesting thing of the night.

Meh, Wisconsin's going to bitch slap UNLV. I'd rather watch games that are going to be close or have a chance to be close, than watch blowouts. Which is why 95% of the games this weekend I'm not even going to bother watching. They're all going to be 30-50 point blowouts because the BCS conference teams are a bunch of fucking pussies who don't have the fucking balls to play a team worth a fuck, but instead schedule FCS teams or the suck-ass lower tier FBS teams.

psusnoop

I think the Nova bs Temple game will be interesting.

I'm also intrigued to watch Russell Wilson as well.

If for nothing else it is COLLEGE FOOTBALL season!!!!

Never forget (I know they were not a low-tier FBS team but all of Michigan treated them that way). Also James Madison was an average team last year but they beat VT.

Also it appears they did not learn their lesson

Well yeah, there's going to be an upset here and there. But for the most part 95% of those games are going to be 30-50 point blowouts. Right now, there are only about 7 or 8 games this entire weekend, from tonight through Monday night that I have any interest in actually sitting down and watching.

SmoothPancakes
09-01-2011, 05:55 PM
Finally, time for my second most anticipated game of this weekend. North Texas at Florida International. Thank god, the ESPN app on Xbox Live is still working for me, so I can watch it in 37" HDTV goodness rather than on a 19" laptop screen.

And the DVR is set to record UMass-Holy Cross at 8pm, so I'll have something to watch when I got home in the middle of the night sometime from work.

SmoothPancakes

Son of a bitch. North Texas-FIU is in a weather delay. :fp: I guess New Hampshire-Toledo will do for now. :(

SmoothPancakes
09-01-2011, 06:28 PM
Damn FIU has a hell of a team this year. T.Y. Hilton took the opening kickoff 62 yards down to the North Texas 29 yard line, then they needed just 4 plays from scrimmage to find the end zone and go up just a minute and 40 seconds into the game.

HWill
09-01-2011, 06:30 PM
I wish they could have scheduled a game between two relevant schools tonight.

SmoothPancakes
09-01-2011, 06:39 PM
Jesus T.Y. Hilton is explosive! 62 yard kickoff return on the opening kickoff down to the North Texas 29. Then after the FIU defense stopped North Texas on 4th down, on the first play on offense Hilton hauls in a 60 yard touchdown pass to put the Golden Panthers up 14-0 in just 5 offensive plays. :D

gschwendt
09-01-2011, 06:41 PM
Yep... T.Y. Hilton is very solid but without him, FIU would be a SBC cellar dweller.

SmoothPancakes
09-01-2011, 06:46 PM
Yep... T.Y. Hilton is very solid but without him, FIU would be a SBC cellar dweller.

Sadly you may be right. Wesley Carroll does a solid job at QB, and Darriet Perry is a beast at HB, but this FIU team would not be the same without the explosiveness of T.Y. Hilton.

Hopefully they can win the Sun Belt outright this year instead of sharing it, and send Carroll, Perry, Hilton and the rest out on top. Troy's won or shared the title every year since 2006. Someone needs to put an end to it. :D

SmoothPancakes
09-01-2011, 06:57 PM
Alright, how the hell was I not able to beat North Texas in the first season of my FIU dynasty? :fp: These guys are just steamrolling NT right now. 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter, and Hilton already has 149 all-purpose yards. Perry and Kedrick Rhodes are just tearing up North Texas on the ground. I'm ashamed of losing that game right now.

UNT has Dunbar but after him they're a bunch of question marks. That plus a new coach does not make a good combination, especially early part of the season.

Oh yeah, I know all about Dunbar. :D He abused me (well, my CPU defense I suppose) in my dynasty.

And yeah, since adopting FIU as a team that I'm a fan of, I'm still trying to learn all the Sun Belt teams in real life. I know them in the game, but since real life plays a lot differently than NCAA 12, it's sort of like starting new right now. I know about Sun Belt basketball since I've been a fan of the Denver Pioneers in college basketball for years now, but pretty much new to the football side of the conference.

It is UNLV though. I don't know anyone, at least amongst friends and co-workers, who actually thought this game would be closer than 30 points. Doesn't surprise me in the least.

On a separate note, great win tonight for Florida International! A great win to start the year and build some early momentum. Now just need Navy to come through on Saturday, and it's a perfect weekend for me.

Kentucky & WKU having a competition to see who can suck worse. Kentucky only 75 total yards with about 13 minutes left in the game. WKU is the same team as last year... great runningback but nobody around him. If Kentucky had a QB, they'd be up by 2-3 touchdowns.

morsdraconis
09-01-2011, 11:24 PM
Louisville only beats Murrey State 21-9. That's atrocious.

Syracuse pulls off the win in OT over Wake Forest with a TD and then holds Wake Forest out for the win.

So for those of you that went through the 120 team nickname quiz... did you guys at least know that Arkansas State is an FBS school? This dumbass writer didn't.
http://www.hailtotheorange.com/2011/9/2/2399263/illinois-fighting-illini-arkansas-state-preview-the-2011-season-begins

(http://www.hailtotheorange.com/2011/9/2/2399263/illinois-fighting-illini-arkansas-state-preview-the-2011-season-begins)It's one thing to be an ignorant fan, I can accept that, but to be a supposed writer (even for a blog site), and not know what schools are FBS, you should hang yourself with the cord from your keyboard. I honestly give us a 40% chance of beating them outright look at Indiana, Iowa, Texas A&M, & Texas over the last four seasons... it's certainly possible, especially with our offense and a new aggressive defense. And if that happens, I will go to his site and laugh at his ass to no end.

bdoughty
09-02-2011, 07:04 PM
As is tradition around here, the preview for the FCS game will be an elitist one, where I really don't analyze the opponent with any real intensity. Sue me, but if we actually have to worry about any of the match ups against an FCS team, then we are doomed anyway. (Besides, you can't get FCS teams to play against in NCAA on the Xbox.)

Not only is he wrong he acts like a complete dick while doing so.

P.S. Could be related to RamJackson dude who posts here? :P

Rooting for Baylor in this one. Nothing against TCU, just want to see the upset and win for the Big 12.

Thanks ESPN hiring another moderately hot sideline reporter that does not actually sound like a man.

Just happy to see some offense after watching that Kentucky/W Kentucky game last night.

morsdraconis
09-02-2011, 07:19 PM
Also, I'd be surprised if TCU gave up another TD so easily this game. Baylor has talent on offense, but TCU's defense is straight up nasty, even if they lost like half their starters to graduation last year.

morsdraconis
09-02-2011, 07:20 PM
Baylor offense buried on their second drive with that block in the back. Probably gonna start in the 5 yard range.

Inside the 5, almost a TD pass to Boyce. Don't know who this Boyce kid is, but he's tearin' Baylor up.

morsdraconis

morsdraconis
09-02-2011, 07:49 PM
Dude just outkicked his coverage on a kickoff.

They need to stop kicking it high and short and kick it long. Stop trying to be cute and boot the hell out of the ball.

The holes TCU has had up the middle are RIDICULOUSLY huge on the two kickoff returns they've taken for 60 some and 70 some yards.

LOL False Start, everyone but the center.

You are one angry dude. :) I can ship you some Xanax if need be.

Why is it people think I'm angry? I'm not angry at all. In fact, I could truly not care any less about the outcome of this game. I'm mainly just watching it out of boredom, and half interest since TCU will be in the Big East next year. Otherwise, I'd be doing something else (and probably will if someone doesn't decide to play defense sometime soon).

bdoughty
09-02-2011, 08:25 PM
Well that was a bust for TCU. They better play some defense on this possession or be down by 2 scores going into the locker room.

34 points on the vaunted TCU D and still 5 minutes before the half.

morsdraconis
09-02-2011, 08:44 PM
Wow, interesting spot there.

morsdraconis
09-02-2011, 08:45 PM

:smh:

TCU is in serious trouble this year if this is the type of defense they are going to play all year. I understand not wanting to allow Griffin the ability to run outside of the pocket, but to bite on EVERY SINGLE play fake is just disgusting people. Every play where he's made a big play with his arm has been off of the QB Choice fake. Good lord TCU, I thought you would be better than that.

So what the hell happened at the end of the game? I got home from work and turned on the TV to see some Baylor guy with the ball dropping to the ground with 2 seconds to play. I'm guessing it was an interception that ruined a comeback attempt by TCU?

bdoughty
09-02-2011, 11:04 PM
Yup they got an int to end the game. TCU had actually come back to take the lead but RG3 took over and played QB and WR to lead them to take back the lead with a FG. Just watch the sports center highlights of the 4th quarter, it was an amazing game, if you like offense.

JeffHCross

I'm a huge defensive fan, and I normally would take 13-7 defensive battles over practically anything that happens in the shootout conferences on a regular basis. And yes, there was a lot of bad defense.

It was also 100º.
It was also Week 1.
And there was a ton of cramping, on both sides.

But most of all, it was exciting.

morsdraconis
09-02-2011, 11:33 PM
Yeah, I'm kicking myself for forgetting to set the DVR for this game, like I had planned to. :fp:

Play a team on rookie in NCAA, throw the ball to wide open receivers all day while playing no defense at all, and you have an exact copy of that game. It was pathetic. All Baylor had to do was do a playaction fake and it was a TD every time. It was the poorest I've seen TCU play in like 3 or 4 years. Good god was it horrible.

JeffHCross

Also, I approve of Samantha Steele. She does her homework on the teams, and it shows.

Though sharing a name with what appears to be a ton of porn stars may put an interesting side-note to her career. I'm sure all the guys Googling her won't mind though.

At least in the 4th quarter from the sounds of it.

So that means I should put my money on Boise State when the TCU-Boise game comes around?

Well, it definitely doesn't help that I don't give a diddly fuck about either team. If it's WVU, and we're trouncing the shit out of someone, I'm all over it and watch every second of it. If it's someone I don't care about, it's boring. I wanna see a team struggle to score 21 points because of stifling defense and punishing hits, unless it's WVU. Then, I wanna see them beat the shit out of someone 100-0.

My college football watching experience is really that simple. Every team but WVU needs to play like shit enough to make it where the game is interesting instead of it being the last team with the ball is going to win/throw an INT to lose it. If I wanted that, I'd play the dumb ass CPU on NCAA.

If you lived here in NW Ohio, and were a fan of one of the local HS teams, they would have made you proud tonight. Second week of the season, the first week of conference play for them, they abused their opponent 83-6. :smh:

I would have anyway. TCU's offense isn't gonna do shit against a team that actually knows how to play defense.

Plus, part of TCU's problem was, they were playing the run WAY too much. Respecting Griffin WAY too much. Any QB can hit a dude that's wide open on a flair route (especially him as he has a very nice arm). Pretty much every TD throw Griffin made was to a guy who torched his man either over the middle or down the sideline because they bit on watching what Griffin was doing instead of playing their damn assignment.

That's just ridiculous and completely uncalled for. No score should ever surpass 70. I can understand hitting 63 or so by halftime (WVU had a 59-0 lead against Rutgers in 2001 on their way to trouncing them 80-3 where they had 2nd and 3rd teamers in after halftime, ran the ball a total of 48 times, and still scored 21 points in the 2nd half - needlessly to say, it was BEAUTIFUL in an otherwise HORRIBLE year) but good god, why keep pouring it on? That's just nuts.

Yeah, they were winning 41-0 at halftime. So it ended up being 42-6 in the 2nd half alone. Another team in that same league won their game tonight 68-6, which the halftime of that game was 48-6. And in a game from another county, the team won 69-7, and was winning 56-0 at halftime. Some ugly, ugly blowouts tonight. :D

but good god, why keep pouring it on?Depends on the circumstances of the scoring. I remember a few years back I was following one of my friend's HS teams, and they rolled all over their opponent. Even the 3rd string was rolling, and via running the ball, not passing.

If your opponent didn't show up (or is totally outmatched), it really doesn't matter how much you take your foot off the pedal -- not in high school, where the talent differences can be staggering.

:D Oh, I usually have it set early in the week. I've had Delaware-Navy set to record since last Friday, and had UMass-Holy Cross set to record since Sunday. I just never got around to actually setting it for TCU-Baylor. That, and 3 1/2-4 hours of football in HD, along with other stuff previously recorded, really kills the amount of space on a DVR. :D UMass-Holy Cross alone took up more DVR space than every single other thing combined that was already recorded on it.

Arkansas State falls to Illinois 33-15. We played sloppy on offense and were tentative on defense. We had several dropped passes which we should have had, dropped two in the endzone, one of which was a fourth down. The game turned late in the 2nd, we were up 8-7, 3rd & 5, they complete a 4-yard curl, we hit the receiver and don't take him down and he manages to run 40 more yards for the score. After that, we couldn't ever get a good pace going.

Next week will be interesting when Memphis travels to Jonesboro... we could either blow them out badly, or it could be a tight game down to the end. After that is Virginia Tech and Central Arkansas before starting our conference slate.

Yeah, I made the same mistake. I looked at it and thought "shit, Notre Dame's about to score with a good bit of time left", then looked a little closer at the last play and saw it was a USF punt.

Sadly, Eastern Washington wasn't able to pull it off against Washington. The Huskies held on to win 30-27.

Iowa State sadly edged out Northern Iowa 20-19. :(

Ball State was able to hold on and beat Indiana 27-20.

Eastern Kentucky blew it, letting Kansas State score 10 fourth quarter points and win 10-7.

Of the games still in action,

East Carolina has faceplanted since the early 3rd quarter. Same with Elon against Vanderbilt.

Almost halftime, Wyoming is having some trouble with Weber State, only winning 21-19 right now.

At halftime, Stony Brook is leading UTEP 10-3.

Rice is still hanging in there, as Texas is only winning 20-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

his ability to scramble like that is a tremendous boost to the offense.....but he just hasnt had any connnection at all with 3 new receivers. the 5 new starters on the o-line havent been a strong point so far, and i'm not sure about iosefa, our rb. we dont need the power rb back there (mostly for pass protection), but he doesnt bring any kind of threat besides a power running game. losing alex green, was just as big of a blow as what losing greg salas and kaloha pilares were.

Finally getting a chance to sit down and watch the Delaware-Navy game right now. I will say this much, Delaware is in trouble if they don't get a center who can actually snap the damn ball in shotgun. I've lost count of the number of times the snap was low and on the ground and the QB had to drop to the ground and jump on it for a loss of 5 or more yards. Or it was high and the QB had to jump to grab it. Or way off the left or right of the QB, making him have to reach for the ball to keep it from flying past him. If they don't get that fundamental shit down between the center and QB, they are going to have a long season.

Half and half. :D Would I shed a tear if Notre Dame went 0-12? Absolutely not. :D Basically, it comes down to who gets to talk shit each week. Navy won, Notre Dame lost, so I'll get to talk shit this week. If Notre Dame beats Michigan next week and Navy loses, I'll be hearing about ND winning and Navy losing all week.

But, all the years of hearing about Notre Dame, not just shit talked from my bosses, but also just Notre Dame in general from ESPN's raging 24/7 boner of them in the past, I've grown to become annoyed by Notre Dame. Just like ESPN's boners about New England Patriots (hate them), USC (hate them), Dallas Cowboys (hate them), Yankees (hate them), etc. So the douchebags at ESPN and elsewhere, who fight over themselves trying to get on their knees first when talking about some of the "top" teams, makes me end up hating those teams.

Nah. Sitting at home, watching the game, it's still horrible to sit through. I could only imagine being at the game and sitting through it.

I was gonna go to the game, but it sold out before I had a chance to get tickets and then the only tickets available were endzone seats for twice as much as they should be (~$70-120 per ticket). For a game against a "rival", that's ridiculous.

First, I don't know what the point of them warming up right now is. There are a ton more storms to the SW of Morgantown and moving towards that direction, so it won't even be 20 minutes before the storms move in.

Second, how the fuck is this game not on TV?

God damn it. I fuckin' hate Marshall so god damn much. It's because of their dumb asses that we're even playing this fuckin' game on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Before it comes up, ESPN is fuckin' retarded running that shit about a fan getting struck by lightning at the Marshall vs WVU game. More "solid" stories by dumb ass ESPN "reporters".

In other news, game is cancelled, WVU 34 - Marshall 13. Disappointed that we didn't get to finish kicking their asses, but thankful that this bullshit game between our meaningless neighbor is finally over.

Just finally watching the last 50 seconds of the TCU-Baylor game on Crunch Time on ESPNU. TCU needs to find a new QB. My god his throws were horrible on that final drive. I don't even want to see what his throws were like the rest of the game.

I'm glad South Carolina finally decided to pull their finger out of their ass in the 2nd half vs ECU Saturday night. I was beyond pissed to say the least the first half. They have a chance to do something special this year. I thought they were going to blow it the first game of the season.

I watched most of this game. They couldn't do anything when Shaw was out there, but once Garcia came in the game, they decided to play like the 12th ranked team in the country. Four ECU turnovers in the second half helped too.

One day I hope TV technology will exist that gives you the option to replace these hideous new uniforms and replace them with a previous model.

Seriously Maryland, you look like some cyborg crash test dummy.

As ugly as those Maryland unis are, that Miami defense makes it look sexy in comparison.

And the minute I post this they get an INT.

Well, now that I actually look, I see it was a 3:30pm kickoff. I thought it was a later game. Makes sense now. When I looked last night, it was NASCAR on ESPN instead of football. Still, when they actually started the game back up for a little bit, they could have dumped it on ESPNU, ESPN News, ESPN Classic, or one of their other billion networks.

What the hell are those? What blind 7 year old kid designed those hideous things? And who in the Maryland athletic department actually thought those looked good? Maryland needs to have a bonfire, and use those unis for the fuel.

Time to go back to watching recorded shows on the DVR. I can't take the hideousness anymore.

I wouldnt want to see it every day..but as a one shot deal, it shows fantastic bravado and creativity..and I want to see them in EA NCAA !!! No, a 7 year old would only come up with the Georgia uni's...these take a little more mental effort LOL.. I of course prefer traditional , but I would still love a mini of that helmet and a replica of that jersey...its beautiful in its creative bravado and the pattern actually means something as opposed to just a silver Georgia helmet.

you are just witnessing a cross over period like when they first realized they could put logos and stripes and colors on helmets..technology has gotten to the point where they can do intricate designs and they are pushing the envelope. But it will balance out eventually... i wouldnt mind the Ducks uni's so much if they at least used an emerald or cobalt green LOL, not 80s day-glo crap....actually,cobalt is kind of day glo LOL

ram29jackson

Its also because..in a small way, I think...they tightened the sleeves on uniforms and got rid of the sleeve stripes that made uniforms distinct from each other..they are putting the sleeve stripe on the rest of the uniform so to speak with design ideas

They only continued to show the NASCAR talking heads when Marshall/WVU went into its second lightning delay.

That's exactly what it was. The game came back on for like 25 minutes before the rain delay happened again. Then it was delayed until they finally decided to call the game.

Ah, ok. They must not have resumed the game broadcast on ESPN when I looked. I read that the teams were out on the field and warming up before resuming play, and I had turned on ESPN, but they were still talking about NASCAR. Guess I checked too early before they picked the football game broadcast back up.

Unfortunately we still have new Nike Pro Combat Unis coming our way.

http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/usnikefootball/en_US/procombat2011

Michigan St Oct 15th
LSU Oct 22nd
Ohio St Oct 29th
Stanford Nov 26th

and they are making uniforms for the Army/Navy game in December.

Plus Adidas will be treating us to throwback unis next week for the ND/Mich game to celebrate the first night game at Michigan Stadium

I still do not get the grey uniform option for Oklahoma State but once again Nike just loves to jack things up. There should be a rule that your unis should be limited to your school colors and grey is not one of their school colors.

Eh, at least none of those teams are with Under Armor. Nike has had some decent Pro Combats.

Some of them could be concerning, but I'm not worried about Army/Navy. I think Nike's going to do everything it can to make the Army/Navy PC's perfect for both academies.

surprising as this may be, it actually is considered part of the school colors because of logo..its one of the borders on logo and check out the bottom of this pdf page....color squares

Guess I'm in the minority.

I liked Maryland's uniforms. In fact, I like as much craziness as possible in college football. I wish more teams would get "unique" uniforms and non-green fields. Obviously, there needs to be some traditional stuff like Penn St. to balance it out but I'm all for any school going against the grain to give themselves something original and unique to them.

I don't mind originality and creativity. In fact, I'd prefer it, more often than not, to the boilerplate uniforms that Nike and Under Armour give us.

But those uniforms were like the state flag had puked all over them.

Since you posted...I would like to say I like USM's new helmets. Any idea what the other 2 options are? Hope Ole Miss gets to wear their Grey's this year or maybe a Pro Combat jersey down the road.
