Hey guys use this to chatter about who you've drafted, etc.

I'm going to do a draft preview in a podcast, probably on 8/29 (which will be after my own draft).

I want to spark some talk about strategy through a bit of a Q and A with you JB (and others if they want to give their strategies as well).

Considering most leagues use the snake draft setup (last pick goes first in next round), what pick would you make if you're in the later half of the round?

Does picks 6-9 make a difference in your preference compared to 10-12?

Who would you take in the 3-5 range?

Is Orton worthy of a top QB pick?

Do you change your strategy based on your positioning in the draft? If so, how so?

And, finally, who are your top 10?

I want to spark some talk about strategy through a bit of a Q and A with you JB (and others if they want to give their strategies as well).

Considering most leagues use the snake draft setup (last pick goes first in next round), what pick would you make if you're in the later half of the round?

I typically put a high premium on QB's due to the RBBC shift the league has taken. If you see Aaron Rodgers or maybe even Mike Vick there at 8-12, 100% take Rodgers, Vick is more of a risk, but a high reward.

Does picks 6-9 make a difference in your preference compared to 10-12?

If you're 6-9, and Rodgers is still there, grab him (people still covet RB's early in drafts, and some are worth taking high). After that though, make sure you go WR in the 2nd round. There is a solid crop in the 11-20 range. (Andre Johnson and Roddy White are the only worthy ones to take in the first round)

Who would you take in the 3-5 range?

If Arian Foster drops, definitely grab him. Another year of him and Schaub together should see an improvement of his 61 catches last year. Most boards have him at 2 behind AP this year, so if he slips, don't hesitate.

Is Orton worthy of a top QB pick?

Not at all. I wouldn't even draft him as my first QB. If I don't get Rodgers, Vick, Brees, Brady, or Manning in rounds 1-3, I'm not taking a QB probably until round 8.

Do you change your strategy based on your positioning in the draft? If so, how so?

Somewhat, but a lot of it plays on how the draft plays out. If I'm in the middle, and Rodgers is sitting there, I'm going to take him in the first round like I did last year. If I'm sitting at 3, and Foster is there, I'm taking Foster 100%. If I'm at the very tail end, I might go WR/RB for rounds 1 & 2 .... maybe a McCoy/R. White combination.

And, finally, who are your top 10?

1. Arian Foster
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Jamaal Charles
4. Aaron Rodgers
5. Ray Rice
6. LeSean McCoy
7. Chris Johnson
8. Andre Johnson
9. Rashard Mendenhall
10. Roddy White

...and I might use this little Q&A for the Mailbag of the podcast if you want me to. A little taste before I do the fantasy football preview on 8/28's podcast (may do it in 8/21 depending on how long our NCAA FB talk goes).

Please do. I'm VERY interested in a more in depth look at fantasy. I'm trying to get more into (as I start to actually play in a league for money) so anything where it's a bit more in depth than the normal bullshit that Yahoo and such does would be GREAT.

And thanks for the answers. Always good to get an idea of what people are looking at with Fantasy.

I think the main thing to consider is how your league is set up. I play in one where we start 2 QBs and the get 6 for a TD and -1 for Int. QBs are gold in this league and you need good ones to compete.

I also play in another one where we only start 1 QB and they get 5 for TD and -2 for Int. This league RBs are your money(even though it's starting to even out with the RBBC for most teams.

Considering most leagues use the snake draft setup (last pick goes first in next round), what pick would you make if you're in the later half of the round?

I hate serpentine drafts, I think they're pointless. That being said I'd rather be in the bottom half of draft. I'd much rather have say the #10 and 14 player than the #1 and 25. There just isn't as much high talent at the top anymore to constitute a serpentine draft

Does picks 6-9 make a difference in your preference compared to 10-12?
To me it doesn't, there isn't the division in talent that there used to be with the RBBC

Who would you take in the 3-5 range?

Arian Foster, Rodgers, or Ray Rice. Look for that RB that isn't splitting carries.

Is Orton worthy of a top QB pick?

Depends on your league and how many people are in it. In a one QB league with 12 people he's a mid tier Pick Rodgers, Vick, Manning, Brady, Big Ben, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers are your tops.

Do you change your strategy based on your positioning in the draft? If so, how so?

Yes and no. I'm a best available type of guy to an extent. I look for any chances to win a position battle. I'll take a top end TE over a non-starter any day, where some people will take depth and not worry about some of the other positions.

And, finally, who are your top 10?
In my straight up league - Adrian Peterson - Chris Johnson - Arian Foster - Aaron Rodgers - Mike Vick - Jamaal Charles - Rashard Mendenhall - Tom Brady - Ray Rice - Andre Johnson

Another thing to think about is if it's a keeper league. In these you may take a chance on a young player

Also - Semi Sleeper (more revitalized)picks for this year. - Steven Jackson will be back to his numbers from about 4 years ago, Larry Fitzgerald will have a big year

As E said, it is all about what kind of scoring system you league has. If all TD's are worth 6 points, QB's will be much more valuable than anything else. If it is a PPR(points per reception) RB's like Ray Rice and Jamal Charles will be more valuable. In my league, all TD's are 6 points so I always go for a big time QB. I have found I can piece together a RB core that is serviceable enough to win games. There are always breakout guys to pick up after the first few weeks as well as people who get nervous too quickly when someone is not performing and they drop them for a 1 hit wonder.

The biggest thing to do is learn your league's scoring system, and don't panic if you have players start off slow. Also, watch the bye weeks when you draft because you don't want half your team on a bye the same week because it is almost a instant loss. Also, draft with your head and not your heart.

Well, both of the ones I'm in are either 5 points for QB TDs and 25 yards per point (along with .5 for completions, -.5 for incompletions, -2 for interceptions, and -2 for sacks) or 6 points for TDs and 50 yards per point (with .5 for completions) and both are PPR leagues.

So, for a 3 TD 300 yard day with 20 completions, 10 incompletions, 1 interception, and 3 sacks my team leagues would look like this:

#1 (5 pt TD league): 15 + 12 + 10 - 5 - 2 - 6 = 24
#2 (6 pt TD league): 18 + 4 + 10 = 32

Obviously, league #2 is better for QBs that put up lots of points and yards, where as league #1 is more for the elite guys that don't make mistakes (Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, or Brees) and then looking at match-ups for the other guys.

I really need to get into one that is good and pays this year. Gotta check around for a decent one.

The one I was in the last few years the new commish changed the scoring system after drafts without telling anyone which pissed me off. I'm done with that league.

I definitely fucked up not grabbing a RB earlier than the 4th round and then, while searching for one frantically, I ran out of time and it picked fuckin' Knowshon Moreno for me, even though I definitely didn't want him.

Any suggestions/critiques would be most welcome. I plan on doing a few more here in the new few days to try to perfect my idea. I plan to milk the hell out of the PPR format through WRs and RBs that catch a lot of passes. I choose to pick 11th as I wanted an idea of what I was looking at late in the draft.

Also, it turns out that the money league I was gonna be in isn't happening, which sucks, so if anyone is doing one that's not too expensive ($10-$25 is fine) I'm very much interested in joining.

I choose to pick 10th as I wanted an idea of what I was looking at late in the draft.

Also, it turns out that the money league I was gonna be in isn't happening, which sucks, so if anyone is doing one that's not too expensive ($10-$25 is fine) I'm very much interested in joining.

The $$$ league I've run is now in it's 11th season with 12-teams and a $25 fee. If someone flakes out, I'll let you know. At this time, I think all 12 guys are coming back.

Again, any and all suggestions, strategies, etc is MOST welcome.

This time around, I found an interesting breakdown of how to take advantage of PPR talent and used it's "outline" for that last mock draft. Not bad in my opinion though I hate having 3 spots taken up by Indy players but Collie and Wayne together are one of the best PPR tandems available.

Edit: Aw, shit. I fucked up. I should have taken Garcon instead of Collie. :fp:

IMO it's a toss-up if both are still on the team. I think they are and didn't really sign anyone else , but I haven't really looked too deep yet into the Colts.

Doing a mock draft right now to just kinda see how the flow of things are going this year.

First observation, RB/RB draft picks are just not happening any more. I went QB/WR with the first two picks.

I've been going HB, WR, WR, WR, QB in preparation of my PPR leagues though I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

Just did the draft order for my league based on last year's results, and I pick 8th. Hoping either Rodgers or Vick fall to me there.

Unless I get a top pick, I will wait to get a RB until the 3rd or 4th round, but then load up on RB's from picks 3-6 or 4-7.

Vick is a bad pick. There's no way in hell I'd take him in the top 50, much less in the top 12. That's just nuts. I don't care what the Eagles do on defense and offense, he's not a good passer and definitely not good enough to be taken before Manning, Brady, or Schaub. That's just crazy talk.

I understand the logic of this article, but I think why everyone is so gun shy is.... can he actually perform anywhere near this level again? If he's there late in the 1st round, I'm taking him but at #1... I'd shy away.

Yeah no way I'm taking him in the top 5. But if I'm sitting 8-12, I will take a chance on him.

I'm thinking about going RB, WR, WR, QB instead if I get a top 5 pick (and can take either Ray Rice or Jamaal Charles), otherwise, I might actually skip RB first and go WR, RB, WR, QB. The drop off from Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles, and Adrian Peterson (Arian Foster is a horrible #1 pick - it's a proven fact that, unless your name is Adrian Peterson, if you have a year of carrying the ball 321 times or more, your next year is going to be a bad year) is pretty significant. Darren McFadden is interesting, but I just can't trust a Raider player to be consistent. Chris Johnson is awesome and will only be better with Hasselbeck throwing the ball to open up the running lanes a bit, but he doesn't fit the bill of exactly what I'm going for (at least 70+ targets along with 1,000+ yards and 5+ TDs).

Right now, my main targets at HB are these:

Round 1:
Jamaal Charles (they're gonna run the ball more, it's almost a guarantee)
Ray Rice (he's the PPR Gold Standard right now at RB unless you really think Arian Foster is gonna have another good year - I don't)
Adrian Peterson (hard to pass up on him, though fumble issues are worrisome)

Round 2:
LeSean McCoy (pretty much a receiving machine, but injuries concern me and, therefore, I refuse to take him in the 1st round unless we're talkin' late 1st round 10-12 pick)
Matt Forte (would much rather take him in the 3rd round, but he's definitely an interesting RB - lookin' for another great FF year from him)
Darren McFadden (again, too hard to trust a Raider in the first for my liking)

Round 3:
Stephen Jackson (could be an absolute steal in the 3rd round but, only rarely lasts that long because he's on one of the last few teams that's not RB by committee - Cadillac Williams won't last long there, he's terrible)

Round 4 or 5:

Jahvid Best (injury concerns, big time)

After those guys, the PPR RBs are pretty much non-existent.

Personally I would advise against this. Get your RBs early and often. The drop off might be significant in the top 10 RBs but they will go like hotcakes. If you wait until the 2nd and 5th round for your 2 RBs you'll get a questionable starter and your 2nd back will be a backup somewhere. WRs are a dime a dozen. If you look at the historic numbers of wideouts they have the least amount of variability. My 2 cents.

For a non-PPR league, that's very true, but when I can get a 100 catch WR as well as someone like Reggie Wayne in the first three rounds, for a PPR league, that's some serious points that a RB in the 3rd and 4th round just can't match (unless I somehow get lucky and get Stephen Jackson in the 3rd round).

True...

Although I would grab one of those backs that get a number of catches in there somewhere. Of course I've never participated in a PPR league.

3rd round once again for him. Interesting. Definitely on my radar now.

Went a bit of a different route this time:

1. LeSean McCoy (Phi - RB)
2. Roddy White (Atl - WR)
3. Steven Jackson (StL - RB)
4. Matt Ryan (Atl - QB)
5. Mario Manningham (NYG - WR)

10. A.J. Green (Cin - WR)

12. Rashad Jennings (Jac - RB)
13. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buf - QB)

Matt Ryan is more solid than a superstar. More often than not, he's not going to win you a league. It will be curious how the drafting of Julio Jones will open up the passing game though.

My first one is Sunday and then Thursday the following week.

As for Brady, and missing games, there's this running joke where whoever one of my long time friends takes as his first round pick, they're destined to have a terrible year and Brady was his pick back when he got injured in the first or second game of the season and was out for the season. Totally crushed him that year too cause he had nothing in the way at QB for the rest of the year. The same thing happened to him the year before with Marvin Harrison too. He was cursed there for the longest time. It was really funny.

Had my first draft tonight. 6 points for all TD's and 6 bonus points for 100 yards rushing/recieving and 300 yards pass as well as TD's over 50 yards. I picked 9th in a 10 team league.

QB Romo
QB Stafford
RB J. Charles
RB S. Jackson
RB R. Grant
RB R. Torain
WR V. Jackson
WR M. Austin
WR K. Britt
WR P. Garcon
TE M. Lewis
TE Z. Miller
Def NE
Def Mia

And two kickers. We start 1qb, 2rb's, 2wr's, 1te, 1rb,wr,or te, 1def, and 1kicker. I should have a solid team barring injury.

8th pick in my league and 7th pick in another league...so basically the same strategy of trying to get either Vick or Rodgers. Just signed up for another $50 league but that's Yahoo and will be random before the draft on Monday.

Draft order has been announced for one of my leagues and I have the first pick.

Scoring system as such:

+/- .5 for Completion/Incompletion
Normal Yahoo scoring for passing yards
5 for passing TDs
-2 for interceptions
-2 for sacks
Normal yahoo scoring for rushing yards and rushing TDs
.5 for receptions
15 receiving yards per point with bonuses at 121, 151, and 201
7 for receiving TD
-2 for fumbles lost

Who should I take with the first pick if I refuse to take Arian Foster?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. He worked well for me last year (at #2 or #3 I think it was).

The problem with my draft was the round I wanted to take a backup RB in (had 2 or 3 on the board) all went in THAT round before me. So I'm not too happy with my backups at RB, but as long as I can stay healthy I'll be okay. Sproles and Rodgers could be a nice surprise...especially Rodgers.

Joined two more public drafts on Yahoo. One a 12 team VERY basic one and one is a 10 team PPR extravaganza. Both draft in the next 45 minutes (two drafts at once, should be loads of fun).

Draft #2 is underway and I drew the 2nd pick thanks to Yahoo.

1. Adrian Peterson
2. Darren McFadden
3. Vincent Jackson
4. Brandon Marshall
5. Jason Witten
6. Matthew Stafford
7. Cedric Benson
8. Daniel Thomas
9. Braylon Edwards
10. Matt Cassel
11. Hines Ward
12. Chicago D
13. Steve Smith (PHI)
14. Neil Rackers
15. Eric Decker
16. Jacquizz Rodgers
17. Donny Avery

The copies from my first $ league last night were McFadden, Smith, and Rodgers. McFadden because there was no way to pass up on him with the 23rd pick overall, Smith and Rodgers because of good value for a possible good return.

McFadden, in a PPR league, is a score at #12. I couldn't imagine getting him at #23.

I just don't understand the idea of taking a defense and/or kicker before the last two rounds. The amount of points you lose by taking either higher than the last two picks in other positions (mainly WR and TE) is far more significant than the possible points you would garner by taking one of the "good" kickers and/or defenses.

I mean, in that above draft, you could have had Robert Meachem and Devin Hester instead of taking Donnie Avery (horrible last year and won't likely see much action again this year either) and Eric Decker will probably prove to be a poor choice as well as I don't see him passing Eddie Royal on the depth chart and, besides, Denver won't be throwing the ball anywhere close to as much as they did last year.

Overall, I just think taking a defense and kicker over top of skill position players is a poor choice.

There's a big difference in having a good defense over a bad defense. You get a team like the Bears that A)return a lot of Kicks(even with the new rules) B)got a lot of TOs and sacks and C)Score defensive TDs... that can win matchups for you each week. I definitely take a D that's going to get me 15 points over a WR that's only going to see action on bye weeks and ride my bench the entire year.

But there's no guarantee that any of that is gonna happen. Even the Steelers aren't a guaranteed set of points. Now, while skill position players that low aren't either, it's trade fodder instead of basically nothingness by waiting to take those skill position players later.

I mean, if I get someone late that's blowing up, but I don't need anymore or somethin', then that's trade bait for someone else worth getting.

A kicker isn't worth taken before round 14 or 15. Defense, a top one like Pittsburgh this year, could go in round 7 or 8. Else you can wait til round 11 or 12. The best three defenses are typically as good if not better than a skill position backup.

But what player is guaranteed points?

Last year the Steelers got me 189 points in my Yahoo league.... guys from my Bench Felix Jones 135 Wes Welker 127 Derrick Mason 122.

Other defenses - Jets 158, Philly 135, Miami 105, Arizona 150, New Orleans 131. I take the approach of winning matchups. If I can win the D, TE, and Kicker matchups that's a good chance I'm winning that week.

I got my first trade offer of the season already...

He offered:
HB Darren Sproles
WR Johnny Knox

for:
WR Julio Jones
WR Sidney Rice

I'm really strong at WR with Andre Johnson, Desean Jackson, Jones, Rice, & Braylon Edwards but I'm weak at HB with LaGarette Blount, Jahvid Best, Michael Bush, Danny Woodhead, and Ronnie Brown. I rejected the trade... I'm thinking after Week 3 I'll know better about what my WRs will produce and then have an idea if one of them will be better trade bait... even Edwards could draw interest I imagine.

I assume it's an obvious choice but did I make the right move?

JBHuskers

Rejecting the trade is 110% the right move. Sproles may catch some balls, he'll just be in Bush's role. Knox is waivering between starting and not starting with Roy Williams right now. And you would be giving up two definite starters.

Looking at free agent HBs, there's not a lot available in that league but LaRod Stephens-Howling is available and with Ryan Williams out on IR, S-H should get a fair number of carries behind Wells. So with that said, which HB should I get rid of (I haven't actually picked up S-H yet). Receptions count for .5 points.

LaGarrette Blount

Alright, so I really thought Tony Moeaki was gonna have a great year, therefore I had him starting on my fantasy team, but in game 4 of the preseason he tore his ACL. Why the hell were the Chiefs playing him? Now I have Tony Gonzalez starting at TE and although he is still good I worry about his durability seeing as he's 35. FYI, for you fantasy fellas out there, if you have Peyton Manning, you better trade his ass ASAP. In the next 24-72 hours, there's gonna be an announcement that he's gonna have another neck surgery that puts him out for pretty much the whole season (12-14 weeks most likely). It's a major rumor circling around that I've seen from a couple of different fans of various teams. Be a skeptic if you'd like, but I wouldn't recommend it. Makes sense with them signing Kerry Collins.

Just finished my last casual draft... 8 teams, 5 of which were on auto-draft tonight. The commish waited too long to set the draft night and we got stuck with the leftovers. Anyway, here's my team. It's a 1 PPR league so I drafted a lot based on receptions as you can probably tell. With it being 8 teams, still plenty of good players in the FA pool... though after the auto-drafters pick through it, not sure what will be left.

Your only mistake, I think, is gonna be taking Brandon Lloyd. There's no way he has as big of a season as last year, simply because John Fox is gonna run the ball more than Denver did last year (WAY more, in fact).

Pettigrew is a great pickup. He's pretty much PPR #2 TE behind Witten.

Welker and Colston are gonna end up being your starting WRs more often than Jennings and Lloyd. Both are gonna be reception machines more so than your current starters. Jennings is more of a non-PPR league WR as he really doesn't get a whole lot of targets, but has a good chance of TDs.

Addai and McCoy are excellent RB pickups for PPR and Charles is gonna get worked quite a bit as the Chiefs look to run the ball more than they did last year (though he'll be sharing carries with Thomas Jones as well).

Bradshaw will probably be your worst pickup of them all. The Giants are falling apart at the offensive lines and likely won't have much of a running game to speak of. Will be interesting to see what happens with them against Washington this weekend.

Speaking of Manning, listen to this story.

Dude in my league drafts him. Obviously is F'ed now. Calls me yesterday afternoon and proposes DeSean Jackson for Joe Flacco. Flacco's on my bench and my 3rd WR is Jacory Ford so I jump on it. Trade Proposed and accepted in about 5 minutes.

Apparently he realized he jumped the gun and should have shopped Desean around. Well we use stupid Yahoo and they have that Veto option. Talks to a couple of other people trying to work deals and gets them all to veto the trade so he can get a better deal. WTF.... I blew up and I think I'm getting out of the league if they don't cancel the veto.

Am I over-reacting?

morsdraconis
09-09-2011, 11:27 AM
Well, the league should have a review by the commish, at the very least, before the trade is allowed to go through. You fleeced the hell out of him, there's no doubt about it (Flacco is pretty atrocious in most leagues) though DeSean Jackson isn't worth as much in PPR leagues as he is in standard format leagues.

Overall, I wouldn't be too upset by it. Normally, a league commish is gonna look over the trade before it goes through (weird that the particular yahoo league you are in doesn't have that setup by the commish) but the practice of someone else vetoing the trade because they can get the player instead is kinda bullshit.

I would, at the very least, bring that up with the commish. If nothing is done, then I would definitely step down from the league, as that is definitely bullshit tactics by everyone else. But, if the commish actually vetoes it himself because of the unbalanced trade (which, most likely, it is considering DeSean Jackson is in the top 15 for WRs in most leagues and Flacco is barely in the top 15 for QBs), I wouldn't be too upset about it.

psuexv
09-09-2011, 11:36 AM
Well the issue truly is the fact that it's vetoed because of trying to get a better offer.

However I disagree with me getting the better deal. Flacco is a starting QB and a decent one, IMO. Desean is a #2 WR. I actually had Flacco last year and he did really well for me. Averaged 18 pts/week.

That may well be the case then. DeSean did have a down year last year after having a top 10 like season the year before (62 recs, 1159 yards, 9 TDs) as well so that definitely evens it out some.

The scoring system definitely plays a big role. If it counts INTs, Flacco's stock drops quite a bit.

To me too, QBs are way more valuable in our league. 6 for TD, -1 for Int. And Wrs are just standard. So he's getting a QB that's going to put up 20 points a week an I'm getting a WR that's going to get me 10.

Flacco was 28 TDs and 11 Ints last year. 4 of those Ints in one game.

Ward, most definitely though expect him to split carries with Tate even if he is starting.

I would definitely go with Cleveland D. Pretty much any defense against Cincy is a good one and Pittsburgh always had Baltimore's number, especially since I think Baltimore is getting older and they aren't gonna be as good as they used to be (Redskins absolutely HANDLED their defense in preseason).

Here's my dilemma. I'm up 8 points and my opponent has Groskowski(sp?) NE Kicker. I've got Jacory Ford and Oakland's D. I'm contemplating pulling my D to purely protect from the possibility of negative points from them.

Absolutely not. :D

Well my #1 pick didn't play (Foster). I did pick up Derrick Ward on Tuesday in anticipation that Foster would be out. Hamstring injuries are nagging so won't be suprised if he sits another week. Hope I can pick up Tate as well.

Blount did absolutely nothing for me, think I got 1 point from him.

Matt Ryan didn't have a hot performance, didn't get close to what was projected for him this game.

I did however get huge games from Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith (Panthers) and Jason Witten. Greg Olsen gave me a solid performance as well.

I'm up 128 to 122 against my opponent. They have Brandon Lloyd and Ochocinco yet to play. I have Jacoby Ford and Seabass left to play...hopefully they can give me enough.

The team I'm up against initially had Big Ben starting but switched to Stafford at the last freaking moment...damn it

Middle of the season I'll have guys that haven't performed at all and they're on the bubble and as soon as a Mile Austin or a Peyton Hillis appear, they're cut. Right now, Ronnie Brown is probably my bubble choice as I don't think he'll be very much involved in their offense on any regular routine (though I didn't watch the game so I may be wrong).

Just wait until McCoy is injured (it's an inevitability). Ronnie Brown will be HUGE then as he has the same abilities as McCoy but is a better runner (I have no freakin' clue why they don't already use Brown instead of McCoy, but, that's the Eagles franchise for you).

Exactly. Foster's injury won't go away unless he is able to rest which is kind of hard to do and stay in shape at the sametime. Tate is going to get the bulk of the carries while they are nursing Foster back, plus Ward went out with an injury...they are both injury prone.

It doesn't look good G, except for the 3rd one.

One league, I'm down 27 and have Lloyd & Marshall while my opponent has Ochocinco left.
I now need 17 from Lloyd, unless Marshall adds significantly to his total here in the last five minutes...

Another league, I'm down 36 and have Lloyd and Welker and my opponent is done.
Welker just scored 37 for me all on his own thanks in part to a 99.5 yard touchdown reception

My third league, I'm up 73 and my opponent has Brady & Bush.
I'm only up 12 on this one now and if Bush's TD counts then it will be down to 6. Brady has 50 at this point.

Going to go 3-1 (unless Oakland's defense has a ridiculous game then I could win in my 3rd league game as well, though I'm currently down by 13.1 with 9 points from Oakland at the moment - HIGHLY doubtful I win this one; got TOTALLY fucked by Mendenhall laying a complete egg of a game against the Ravens defense).

Before anyone asks, the last two leagues (#3 and #4) are the random yahoo leagues that I joined. One is basic yahoo scoring but the other one is completely ridiculous. To give you an idea of just how ridiculous the scoring is for league #4, Tom Brady gave me 82.50 points for his performance tonight! It's just obscene how many points he gave me (18 more points than the next highest scorer, Drew Brees, at 74.50). I'm pretty sure I'm going to slaughter that league as half of it was autopicks and it's an eight team league, meaning I have one of the most unbalanced teams I've ever seen put together. I pretty much did it for shits and giggles and something to go "holy shit! I just scored this many points with this guy!" about. God knows, it's certainly fun to be down by 40 points and then COMPLETELY obliterate my opponent with one guy.

Thanks to McFadden's 40+ yard scamper at the end of the game, I won 138-137. We were the #2 and #3 top scorers in the league for the week.

My other money leagues I lost 134-115, with Vick being my biggest scorer, and Maclin and Moreno laying eggs. And 137-117, with Vick, Benson, and Witten having good games, and Lee Evans forgetting to show up, along with Bowe and the Steelers.

The ESPNRadio League, I lost 122-96, good showing by Brees, Reggie Wayne, and Bears D and horrible games by Bowe again, along with my backs Ingram and Grant (waited too long to take RB's because they were flying off the board).

A glass-man injury would be a leg-type injury or a shoulder with Vick getting knocked the f*** out ... this one isn't your typical Vick injury...he would have been fine if that lineman wasn't right there. I'm half tempted to go with either Young or Kafka....because in one league Cassel is toast.

My roster in one of my leagues looks really ugly...

QB - John Beck
HB - Ryan Torain
HB - Knowshon Moreno
WR - Sidney Rice
WR - DeSean Jackson
WR - Andre Johnson
TE - Antonio Gates
K - Connor Barth (on a bye)
DEF - Carolina

This league limits to four transactions per week and I'm at my limit so I can't drop Barth. The rest of it is a mish-mash of newly named starters and players coming off of injury. My bench is bad as well because I have all players on a Bye and Jahvid Best (not expected to play this weekend). I made a mistake on Beck... WR - Mike Wallace - bye
WR - Reggie Wayne - bye (losing Peyton has KILLED his production and thus killed my draft)
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson
RB - Mark Ingram (he's shown flashes of decent production but New Orleans couldn't have been a worse place for him to get drafted)

Wow. That's a tough one. Chicago is playing pretty well (despite the loss of Jay Cutler and what looks to be Forte as well) and Philly is falling apart but could make a resurgence with a win against the Dolphins.

Think you gotta go with Moore. He's been more consistent where it's likely that Tebow could have another 2 INT and zero TD game sometime soon.

JBHuskers
12-07-2011, 08:29 AM
Moore has been very solid lately.

The thing with Tebow is you have to treat him like a RB most of the times. Against the Jets, he would have earned you 4 points on passing....but he had 68 yards and a TD rushing. That equates to 16 points, which is not bad. All it takes is to get shutout from a TD to cost you your season.

I ended up tied for overall 1st place in my league earning a bye in the playoffs that start this week. Surprised really considering my team isn't all that stacked IMO. Here is my team

QB - Matt Ryan (draft)
HB - Arian Foster (draft 1st pick)
HB - L. Blount - (drfat)
HB - M. Bush - (drafted him, dropped him, picked him back up, dropped him, then picked him up again before DMC got hurt)
WR - H. Nicks - (draft)
WR - S. Smith/CAR - (draft)
WR - L. Moore - (draft)
TE - J. Witten - (draft)
TE - G. Olsen - (draft)
DEF - Steelers - (draft)
K - S. Jano - (draft)

QB - Carson Palmer - (added 5 games ago
WR - D. Heyward-Bey - (added 5 games ago)
WR - M. Floyd - (added last week)
HB - M. Morris - (added 4 games ago, dropped, then added Thanksgiving week)
HB - B. Tate - (added 2nd game of season, dropped when Foster came back full-time, then picked back up 3 games ago)

Picked up players along the way that contributed like Devery Henderson when he was playing solid, tried the Tebow experiement and he lost me a damn game and dropped Kolb because he has sucked.

Hoping I can ride these guys to a title. Since I won the division I get back my $25.

Which is where he would be dangerous if he has a great game passing. You add in the passing and any passing TDs with the rushing and any rushing TDs, your team could potentially have a hell of a week with his performance.

Romo against the Giants or Matt Ryan against Carolina? I like the Ryan Carolina matchup but the last time they played them they ran Mike Turner all day.

And the guy I'm playing has Roddy White so it would cancel some of his points.

But is it worth risking your playoff life?

Well in this league where all weeks are used, thank god I get Vick back. After three weeks of Skelton and Hanie getting a combined -4 in THREE WEEKS. Vick has a favorable matchup, and I hope he plays well. Kolb is back in and he's my backup, he had a lot of points last week, so it's tempting to go with him in a must win to get in the playoffs. I'll make a final decision at the end of the week.

I lost against the division leader last week, so unfortunately I don't get a bye in my Yahoo league, I get the 3 seed. This is the league I have McFadden and Peterson, subbing in Benson and Brown worked one week, but not last week. I sure as hell hope i get one or both of my backs back. Everyone else on my team is solid (Stafford, Marshall, V-Jack, a 3 WR, Witten, Bears D, Rackers)....if I can get my run game back, I can definitely win this league.

As for the league I run, team started 4-1, ended 5-8. Looks like I'll have the 2nd pick in the draft next year.

Yeah, that's what each person has to decide. If Tebow has a huge day where everything clicked passing-wise, and he became a bitch in the running game, he alone could probably propel your fantasy team to a win with the combo of passing and rushing yards and TDs. But if he has a horrible day in both areas, well, your team is fucked no matter what your other players do.

Moore is definitely the safer pick.

I have ran with Tebow all season but like JB said, I can't risk my playoff life with him as my QB. Whatever I do will be the wrong choice so i'm going with Moore. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Who would you start on defense? Oakland vs the Lions or San Diego vs the Ravens?

One of my worst seasons ever since running with 3-teams :fp:

Injuries to my top QB's and RB's just flat out killed me this year.

Definitely San Diego, they're playing more inspired ball now and the Ravens offense can be quite dysfunctional at times.

Marion Barber against Seattle or Toby Gerhardt against NO?

Barber 110% .... Peterson has practiced two straight days.

Seattle is 11th in the league against the run only giving up 8 TD's on the year, but Barber will give you more than Gerhart unless Peterson has some sort of a setback.

Yeah it's probably going to be a game time decision. Gerhardt has put up double digit points the last 3 weeks but who knows how much Peterson will play. I also read that the Bears a pissed off with Barber for the Broncos game but they really don't have another option.

Do you think the Vikings will keep the game close enough to actually run the ball? Their pass D is piss poor. Brees will light them up.

John Clayton reports that Peterson will definitely play. One damn week too late for my fantasy team :fp:

I win my game this week and I'm in my money league championship.

Matt Ryan gave me 43 points in lastnight's game. I'm going up against Brady though..hell his team is pretty stacked even though he's the #3 seed.

Hopefully rest of my team steps up.

SOB - freaking Brees and Aaron Hernandez put the screws to me. All his other players were done before the Pats game and even with Brees getting 56 I was still in striking distance. But of course my QB Brady has to throw all of his pass to Hernandez instead of Gronkoski :fp: This was my big money league too, $50 entry $1 for each transaction. It's like $450 to the winner.

Good news is I'm still alive in my other money league. I'm up 8 and I have Akers tonight and he has Gore. I should be ok I think.

#2 seed in both leagues, if I get bounced out of both I'll be pissed.

I'm in the finals of my pay league. Entry fee was $30, I was high scorer two weeks during the season so I've won $20. I'm guaranteed another $30 for second place and $140 if I finish first. So at worst I net $20 for the year... not too bad.

Even though I lost $ in football, overall I'm up on the year of fantasy with my cashes in baseball.
