EuroGamer has shared their detailed hands-on impressions with the latest E3 2010 GT5 demo, and it’s full of quite a few interesting and revealing tidbits of information. While I have covered the main points below, the full article contains more detail and is very well written, so head on over there for more.

* Over 800 of the cars will be “standard”, the majority of which have been brought from previous GT titles. Despite the nomenclature, they still look great – all of the classic “muscle cars” we saw in the latest batch of screenshots are all “standard”. However, according to the article, standard cars “won’t have interiors”.
* There are 200 “premium” cars which “take the final count past the 1000 mark”. In addition to highly detailed interiors, the undersides of the cars have also been modeled and will be visible when the car is flipping through the air thanks to the new physics engine.
* There will be 9 NASCAR models available, and you will be able to race by NASCAR’s specific rules. The article describes the NASCAR crashes as “truly epic” yet still “artful in Yamacuhi’s universe”.
* Each individual circuit can take as long as two and a half years to build.
* The new Photo Travel mode – where you take a car to a picturesque location other than a race track – now allows you to virtually walk around the environment to help you get the best angle.
* Online community features include a “BBS, personal logs, mail, and something called My Lounge”. You will be able to monitor your friend’s progress, set up private races with them, and spectate on live online races that are already underway from any camera angle, while focusing on any player’s car that you want.
* The combination of 3D visuals and head-tracking with the PS Eye was described as “astonishing”.

This game is going to be uber epic.

Has there been a 2-disc PS3 title yet? This could be it....this will seriously take a year or two out of your life.... I can see it already. I remember pulling my hair out trying to get all of the licenses.I couldn't imagine them filling up a disc with more than 50GB of data. I imagine if a title would do it, it might be this one but I highly doubt it. Plus, I believe they even have capability for 100GB Blu-Rays but I don't think they're used very largely at this point.

06-21-2010, 04:32 PM
The 100 GB blu ray arent possible on the PS3. Because of how they would be coded the disc reader wouldn't be able to decode the disc. But there is nothing out there right now game wise that is even close to 50 GB of data. The data of the game wont push the 50 gig mark but will push the processing power of the ps3 to the limits.

I assume that i just means different car models (like Chevrolet vs Ford vs whatever else) but each licensed car would be considered a paint job of those cars... if that's not the case though, then yeah that does suck.

Well NASCAR only uses Chevy, Ford, Dodge, and Toyota.....it could only be 9 licensed cars to screw around with instead of any kind of NASCAR mode.

I'm "pretty" sure they're all Fusions. Would be awesome if the lower tier drivers had Festivas, and the rookies had Model T's :D

UGA14
06-22-2010, 11:39 AM
Model T's lol...

Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Impala, Dodge Charger.

If trucks are included then you have 4 more "models." It'd be nice to have some sort of clarification. Also will there be speedways?

The collector's edition is available for preorder on Gamestop and Amazon now. They're both $99, but it's cheaper with shipping through Amazon. I have it preordered, but it has been said that it'll be getting an even bigger special edition which will be detailed later. If it comes with a specially designed wheel, I'm allllll in.

I OU a Beatn

As of November last year, they were closing in on $60 million in development costs alone. Combine that with another year of development, several acquired licenses, and yeah...

JeffHCross
10-13-2010, 04:58 PM
Well, considering GT5 Prologue sold 4 million copies at $30+ a piece ... hell ... Prologue may have made up for a good bit of GT5's development costs by itself.

I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't care that much about the game. I got GT5 Prologue pretty much as a throw in when buying an extra controller and had fun playing it the first couple of weeks but then just traded it in. I don't find racing for licenses overly exciting. I want a true offline season mode where a season is 10 races (or a number I pick) on various tracks and I compete for prizes and money and a chance to move up. There was no season mode in GT5 and I don't know if there is one in this game. Without one I won't even bother. I'm not a big racing guy but without a season mode these games are useless to me.

From Joystiq

No need to watch aging spies smoke cigarettes or take a sandwich break when it comes to installing Gran Turismo 5 -- Eurogamer has confirmed with Sony that the game will actually have a feature allowing users to install it in chunks while playing. "If users choose not to install the data straight away it will do it in stages as new areas, tracks, etc. are accessed during normal gameplay,"a Sony representative stated. The install weighs in at 6.3 gigglebytes, unsurprising considering there are like eleventy billion cars in the game and takes about 40 minutes when installing straight-up, Eurogamer reports.

Gran Turismo 5 launches in the US on November 24. No, we're serious -- no joking!

JeffHCross
11-25-2010, 11:06 PM
No, it's not common. It's just a bad design decision. If Gran Turismo 5 came out for the Xbox and decided to make the same decision, they'd have the same problem (or worse).

UGA14
11-26-2010, 08:35 AM
Pretty much everything in the game happens on a server. There's such a tremendous amount of traffic with the game it is slowing loading times down in the single player... because you're sending information to the servers. I've actually not had this problem yet and I've played quite a bit of the game now.

morsdraconis
11-26-2010, 10:15 AM
Wow, sounds like they need to do some serious server additions. WTH were they thinking doing this knowing that the game is going to sell like crazy on day 1? Really dumb of them.

JeffHCross
11-26-2010, 10:31 AM
Simple human error, mors. They probably didn't test single player with a massive online load, and didn't think about the consequences. Not the first company to make that mistake in software.

morsdraconis
11-26-2010, 11:20 AM
Oh, no doubt, but they really should have at least taken that into account based on their previous games and how well they sold and simulated it somehow or something.

I really want to get a steering wheel as I'm sure it makes all the difference with racing games (it certainly did in the arcade) but man alive are those things hella expensive for basically a controller that I'd only be using occasionally...

It does for sure. The one I got is $99 on Amazon right now, it's the Logitech Driving Force GT. You can use it on PC or PS3 and I play more than just Gran Turismo with it. I always played the NASCAR games back in the day with a Microsoft wheel, but this one feels really good actually.

I've been playing GT5, F1:2010, and Dirt 2 with it. Seems pretty solid.

Patch 1.05 Info

Gran Turismo 5 V1.05:

・Seasonal Events
[Seasonal Events] have been added to the upper left side of the [GT Mode] - [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team.
In these events, all participants race under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. In Time Trials and Drift Trials, compete on the leader boards with players around the world.

・Online Dealership
An [Online Dealership] has been added to the left center of the [GT Mode]-[GT Life] screen. In here you will find popular and rare used cars.
You might just come across that one car you've always been looking for, that you haven't been able to find in the [Used Car Dealer]

・Online Race Rewards and Experience
When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience points.
Therefore if you are focused more on playing online, you'll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life].

・Driving Distance and Number of Wins in Online Races
The driving distance and the number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge] will now affect your stats in [Profile] and the [Garage].
Here again the results from your online play will cumulate within [GT Life].

・Improved Rewards
The rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec in [GT Mode]-[GT Life] have been increased for a limited time only. (This applies until the end of January 2011)
This is a great chance for those who were previously having difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to a lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.

・Race Information Display
[Race Information Display] is now available in [Start]-[Quick Options]. (You can also see this in [Race Display] in [Options]).

・Save Data Backup
You can now copy and restore your save data. For details, please refer to the in-game [Manual].

・Personal BGM (Menu)
From [Options]-[Hardware]-[Audio], it is now possible to set the [Personal BGM] (Menu)]. (This can also be accessed from the [Music Library] within [GT Mode]).

・Car Name Change
The official name of "Red Bull X1" has been changed to "Red Bull X2010".

・Integration with the Website
The main features within [GT Mode]-[Community] can now also be accessed through the "gran-turismo.com" official website.

[Important Note:]
* We have made improvements to the [Log] within [GT Mode]- [Community] section, in order to make its operation more stable. Please note that the information that was here before the update has been reset.

* Some contents of the update will not be applied unless you sign in to the PlayStationฎNetwork when you play the game.

You just have to know the lines, and make simple adjustments. Also don't full throttle when coming out of corners. It helps to change from the Right Stick to L2/R2 for Acceleration and Braking.

Yeah I am not that far yet, just starting to scratch the surface on the 2nd tier of A-spec (level 12 I think). It's a game that I won't touch for two or three weeks, but when I play it's for 6-8 hours at a time.

From IGN: (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/119/1199481p1.html)

Today, the previously announced 2.0 update for Gran Turismo 5 goes live, giving racing fans a series of fixes and updates that will help fine-tune the GT5 experience. Along with the reveal of the 2.0 update, however, was news that DLC would be coming down the pipe as well. And thanks to the PlayStation Blog, we now know what that DLC consists of, and when it will be coming to the PlayStation Store.

There are four individual pieces of DLC that will be available on October 18th. The Course Pack introduces two new courses, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and a special "indoor karting arena" concocted by the game's designers. That will cost $4.99. The Racing Car Pack, which will cost $7.99, adds 11 new "PDI-designed custom touring editions" to the game, including vehicles from Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Honda.

The Racing Gear Pack brings to the game 90 new pieces of racing gear, including plenty of new helmets and racing suits. That pack costs $2.99. And finally, the Paint Pack, which is the cheapest piece of DLC at $1.99, brings 100 new colors to the game for car customization.

Each DLC pack can be purchased individually, as noted above, or bundled together for $11.99 in total. Stay tuned to IGN for more details and impressions of Gran Turismo 5's DLC soon.

Busted this out for the first time in a while. Took a while to get to it though because there was a 600 MB patch, then install the game onto the hard drive :D

Was trying to get the Super License, and am halfway through it. I remember the old GT games 1 & 2 where it would be damn near impossible to get all of the licenses.

I'm not sure which licenses I have, because I started playing the game forever ago. Rented when it first came out, didn't buy until they released the XL edition for $30 on sale so I was already done with the Beginner and Amateur series when I got back into it. But I'm all the way to the Professional series in A-Spec and the one right below that in B-Spec. I'm not sure why we need the licences anymore. I remember in 3 or 4 I think, you couldn't do certain races w/o the license.
