FIFA 12 to feature "astonishingly authentic" physical play

As previously reported FIFA 12 will be evolving in a similar fashion as Madden NFL 12 and NCAA Football 12 with more realistic game play and environments. FIFA 12 will feature a new impact engine that will result in players reacting to contact in a more authentic way depending on which part of the body is contacted by another player. Being hit in the leg will cause a different reaction than being hit in the hip. In previous versions of the game (as well as other EA Sports titles) a handful of stock player animations were used for any contact. The new game engine enhances the realism for FIFA 12.

"The result is physical play that looks astonishingly authentic,” says OXM. As previously reported, player injuries will also be more realistic and have more authentic effects on game play, including less accurate shots or passes during play. The vision feature will also impact the pass accuracy and remove the ability to rely on a blind pass. If a player handling the ball does not have a good look at a teammate his pass will be less likely to be completed as opposed to a player in plain sight.

It's the little things that differentiate this year's version from FIFA 11 but the enhanced AI will present more challenging game play with an enhanced defensive system of play. Players will be more likely to contain the opposition rather than engaging in man-to-man play, which will force the user to take control and try to take the ball away from the offense.

"EA's hoping that by making defensive play more strategic, even nil-nil draws will be gripping," says OXM.

On offense there will be more of a focus on waiting for the rest of the team to get set-up to create more opportunities rather than dribbling with the ball straight through the defense in hopes of a one-on-one opportunity on goal. “Being able to hold up play until your team-mates provide options makes holding onto the ball a much more viable tactic."

Having played soccer from K through high school I used to HATE the FIFA series b/c it was no way even close to being "sim". However, they have made quite a bit of progress recently and although the game is still on the arcade side it has become a fairly enjoyable title to play.

I might have to look into this. I bought FIFA 10 last summer, but never got around to buying FIFA 11, though I thought about it. I definitely enjoy a nice soccer game. It's a nice change of pace from football, basketball, hockey and baseball.

They were in Fifa 11, added in one of the updates and stuck in the Rest of the World grouping (that video was Fifa 11) but here is some good news for you.

The entire Whitecaps FC team has been scanned and are ready to be fully integrated into the MLS and for FIFA 12.

Other than world cup, I have never owned a FIFA game... though I have heard the series is truly excellent and you can get in three games in the time it takes to play one NCAA or Madden. Is the game that good and can you play in the MLS or is it primarily European leagues? I really don't know anything about the series but with SEASON TICKET I am seriously considering trying this out.

The Fifa series used to be a turd. It started getting better around Fifa 06 when it started copying Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer and allowing people to use the control scheme from WE/PES. Now it has turned the tides on WE/PES (and I used to be the biggest WE/PES fanboy) and has been better this whole console generation.

You can play a full MLS schedule. I am not an MLS guy and have never used one of the teams, outside an exhibition. Man City fan here so I only play the EPL.

As far as speed of the game it is all about how long you set a match to take. You can play through a game pretty quick due to the fact there is limited stoppage and even then the clock runs.

One thing that hurts playing MLS is the limited stadiums in the US. There are generics and you can choose any stadium you wish as your home field. That said you got really lucky this year as they added a few new stadiums and guess who got theirs in the game?

http://fifasoccerblog.com/blog/fifa-12-stadium-list/

BC Place Stadium *NEW* – Vancouver Whitecaps

* I still refer to Pro Evolution Soccer as Winning Eleven (what it used to ba called here in the US when the game was really good). Old habit.

Forgot to add, one thing you might not like is that Canada (National team) is not included in the Fifa games (except for the WC game). Oddly enough you will find them in the Winning Eleven/PES games.

Also I just noticed a new American league will be in Fifa 12 (NASL)

So I am betting they will have the Canadian Championship

Finally I get to see my Man City with 5 glorious stars. New camera (Tele Broadcast) is pretty nice and lower than Tele for a better view across but it really does not seem all that different than what you could do with Tele and custom settings. This is one area where I still prefer PES. The best part was how fluid dribbling was and that you could get past someone without having to use the advanced dribbling technique.

FIFA 12 review - 9.5/10

9.5 Presentation
Unrivalled authenticity and broadcast-quality presentation means FIFA remains peerless in terms of its look.
9.0 Graphics
Stadiums look magnificent and the appearance of some players is uncanny, but crowds don't stand up to close scrutiny.
9.0 Sound
Commentary is varied and games have an authentic buzz about them.
9.5 Gameplay
Bold innovation pays off, with a suite of new features that enhance not only your enjoyment of the game but take it one step closer to the real thing.
10 Lasting Appeal
With finely-tuned gameplay and a plethora of different modes and online features, you'll be playing FIFA 12 all season long.

For an "non-socccer video game guy" this is adamn good offering. I have ONLY played Exhibition and TOURNAMENT this weekend but it has been a blast. Cudos to the creation centre being online so you can create teams/players/tournaments. I have created FIVE tourneys thus far and it's been a blast. Plus, BC PLACE is stunning. I love how you can see the CFL field marking and the upper deck is also slightly visible through the white tephlon curtain. The commentary in this game is amazing and the gameplay is solid. This is a 100% purchase for me (except I don't have any spare cash right now so Christmas it is...).

The only negatives of this game thus far:

1. Not enough fouls/red cards/yellow cards
2. Midfielders/defensemen are just too easy to get around

Without season pass I would have never played this game. It plays a great game of soccer.... (granted my skills are pretty bad)

2. Whitecaps FC @ Zurich FC (Switzerland)~ 1-1 DRAW (I SCORED ON MY OWN NET :(

I played all afternoon/evening with Houston. After going 0-1-2 in the preseason, I'm off to a 4-1-1 start in the regular season.

My loss was to NY, and the draw was against Chicago. I have DC next, then 5 straight against teams in the top 4 in their respective conferences.

I love the story lines, talking to the press, the season-specific commentary etc. It all really helps with immersion and all of EA's other titles could use these facets.

I'm also enjoying the fact that fatigue adds up over multiple games. NHL could really use that type of system to give the user a reason to rest players occasionally. I think it's cool that players can get injured in practice, too.

The commentary is great and makes you feel like they know the "big picture" of what's going on in the season.

The scouting/Youth Academy is actually pretty nice. It's far better than scouting in Madden and NHL. I sent a scout to Mexico for 3 months and he scouted a 15-year-old player named "Nacho Camacho". Too bad he sucked, I would have loved to sign him, lol.

So in my current career (manager) I'm using the Houston Dynamo. I'm in the second transfer period (July) and there was a news article that Sporting KC had a new ownership group that was commited to pouring money into the club. They haven't bought any players yet, but it will be interesting to see what they do going forward.

Considering that they are pushing me for a playoff spot, it's not real exciting news, but that is really cool that it can happen. I've seen guys at OS post that they've seen $200M dumped to a club by new ownership. That could make KC dominant in MLS. Gulp!

Hey Steeler, I don't have access anymore because season pass has expired. I forgot to look up and see if FIFA 12 has the C0NCACAF Championship if you are using MLS teams. I get the feeling they don't as I know for a fact they don't have the Canadian Nutrilite Championship or a Number of the Canadian teams that play in NASL (Edmonton/Montreal) or any of the "minor" teams in the CSL.

I see you can download CONCACAF from a user in the creation centre though...

Thanks man. The weather effects are definitely cool; for some reason, the random weather today put both of my games in the rain. Had a 0-0 draw (3-1 in shootout) as Seattle Sounders FC against the Chicago Fire on Professional this morning and then the 5-0 win as FC Barcelona over Real Sociedad on Semi-Pro.

Just bummed out that the .FLV file saved to EA SPORTS Media from in-game is only in 360p when you upload to YouTube; NHL 12 outputs to 480p by comparison. Oh well.

Just finished my first regular season with the Houston Dynamo. I went (W-D-L) 16-12-6 (60 pts +12 GD) which was good for 2nd in the East. New York (24-6-4, 78 pts, +44) ran away with the regular season crown.

6 teams in the East qualified for the playoffs, 4 in the West.

I will open with Toronto FC (16-10-8, 58 pts, +17) in the MLS Cup Quarters. In the regular season, I lost, 3-2, at Toronto on May 7, and won, 3-2, at home on July 9 against them.

My leading scorer, Carlo Costly, is out for another month with a broken collarbone. Costly had 13 goals and 5 assists in 27 games in league play, and added another goal in 2 games during the US Open Cup (which was won by Real Salt Lake). Despite missing 7 games, Costly finished tied for 3rd in goals (Lindpere of NY led with 16).

FC Dallas beat Columbus and Sporting KC beat DC United in the first round. The rest of the Quarters have FC Dallas against NY, Sporting KC against Real Salt Lake, and Sounders FC against LA.

I split with them, but both games were very early in the season when I was still playing on Semi-Pro. After about 10 games, I made the jump to Pro.

I lost to Toronto (2-1 and 2-0). Game 2 was only my 2nd home loss of the season. I guess not having Costly proved to be costly. :fp:

Anyway, NY lost in the Quarters to FC Dallas on aggregate score and LA eventually beat Toronto, 2-1, in the Cup Final.

After the season, I had several job offers. I thought about staying with Houston and also considered going to Kansas City (they have $160M).

But, eventually, I decided to take the job with SC Braga in the Liga Portuguesa. I quadrupled my salary by doing so and I think the change of scenery will do me some good in keeping interest and in helping me learn a little about some of the other leagues.

I don't remember, jaymo. But they were near the bottom of the league table. IIRC, Portland was the worst team and Vancouver was next.

The bad part was that Portland blew me the fuck out (5-0, I think), at home. It was my only home loss during the regular season. WTF?

What I most miss about this game (from season pass) is that the games go so quickly. I can get in three FIFA games in the time I play one Madden oor NCAA game. If I do get this for Christmas I can easily see myself playing 10 seasons all around the world. Start as the caps and go from there.

I play 15-minute halves, so games are still about 35 minutes. But, yeah, definitely shorter than NCAA or Madden.

I figured out the problem with the freezing... It is/was all of the custom content I created. I read online that a lot of people had this problem. Basically I deleted all of my custom teams and now the game runs excellent. I played six games last night... Tottenham beat my Whitecaps pretty darn good. I am still trying to fully understand all of the rules with regards to player movement. I love the game depth though. I would love to see the calendar/info screen/coach press conferences make their way to NCAA 13 and Madden 13.

Just a quick update on my Career Mode.

In year 2, I managed SC Braga and finished 3rd in Liga Portuguesa, but I did win the Taca Portugal (Domestic Cup).

I'm now deep into year 3. I took over FC Schalke 04 (Bundesliga) and I'm sitting atop the Table. I have 64 points and Munich has 63 with 6 match days remaining. Dortmund is in 3rd with 60 points. Unfortunately, I have already been eliminated from the Euro League and from the Deutscher Pokal.

Even though I'll likely qualify for the Champions' Cup for next year, I'm sure I'll leave Schalke as my goal is to get to the Premier League. Once I get there, I'll probably stick with a team for a few years.

Well, if you take a loan player (short or long term) can you purchase his contract outright at the end of the term? Also, if you put a player on the transfer list do you lose him at the end of the year? And, how does fifa classify a free agent? Soccer isn't really my area of expertise.

Those are good questions, and I don't have great answers.

I haven't taken a player on loan, though I've loaned out a few. I can't remember if the players that I loaned could have been purchased away by the other club. I should know fairly soon though. I have 2 players out on loan now and my season is down to 5 league matches.

I don't think you lose a player who you list, but I'm not positive. Again, I have 1 or 2 listed now and the season is winding down. I'll pay attention at the end.

If I'm not mistaken, a FA is simply a player without a contract. There is an opportunity to re-sign expiring players at the end of the year. I'm pretty sure they just become Free Agents if you don't keep them.

I know this isn't much help, but I'm learning as I go. I'll try to answer what I can when my season ends.

In the mean time, maybe someone else knows for sure. :dunno:

I played soccer from K-high school so I'm pretty tough on FIFA and gave up on the series but I noticed the last few times I rented FIFA EA had made pretty good strides in making it a more sim experience. It's weird... I have been reading up on transfers with some of my spare time today. Canada, the USA, and Australia are pretty much the only countries where TRADES are the norm. Pretty much every other country is based on TRANSFERS (buying/selling players for cash~ the selling club and the player involved get a piece of the action). As a fan of North AMerican sports this TRANSFER for CASH concept really boggles my mind. Essentially an owner gets rich at the expense of the fanbase rather than moving a player to gain other players.

But I digress... so in my reading LOANED players can be loaned at anytime but all CASH TRANSFERS may only be done at two times of the year. Apparently the LOAN is exactly that and the player returns no questions asked after the loan is completed.

steelerfan
12-28-2011, 05:51 PM
Yeah, I didn't know that you were unaware that there are Transfer Windows. There are 2 in a year. Basically July and January.

The buying/selling of players was a bit foreign to me, but I've gotten used to the idea. If you look at selling as a means to obtain the cash to buy, it makes more sense.

If I have a Midfielder I want to get rid of, and I need a Goalkeeper, I can sell the Midfielder to the highest bidder and not worry about whether or not they have a Goalkeeper I want. Then, I can take that money and buy a Goalkeeper from someone else.

In reality, an owner is not going to get rich off of these moves unless his Youth Academy is so good that they can replace what they sell from within. Even then, it costs money to have quality scouting and to sign Youth players. Eventually, you have to put the money back in or your team will fall apart.

The crappy teams face relegation, and lose profit by not being a part of international competitions. There really is a lot of motivation to stay competitive.

The cool thing about it is that an owner that is happy with the status quo will screw himself one way or another.

Steeler... or anyone who knows FIFA 12...HELP!!!

Okay so someone from the management team tells me that I should let one of my young players get experience by farming him out to another team so he can get playtime. So I interpret this as a loan so I put him on my loan list. Nobody shows interest and the NEXT day the team news says that he is shocked and upset and didn't expect this and that he wants to leave the team. I don't get it... should I not have put him on the short term loan list? Should I have put him on the transfer list? Now the kids thinks the management is awful and wants out...???...

I was just told by my LB Mitchell that he wants out. I have praised the guy non-stop, played him in every game, and all season he has been unsettled. Now the board tells me to move him. I am going to play him for another game or two until the transfer window opens. The guy is only a 59ovr... he should be grateful to be in the MLS.

steelerfan

Lol.

Usually a guy who is unsettled misses his homeland. AFAIK, there's nothing you can do.

Be careful about not moving him immediately. While I haven't seen it, others have said that management will move him if you don't, and you may not like the deal they make.

However, I have heard some say that management got a better deal than they turned down.

I'd list him and take the first fair deal that came my way.

I just played my first 2 online matches against randoms in Head-to-Head Seasons.

I like how it works. You start in Division 10 and play 10 games to try to get promoted. To get to Division 9, you need 10 points in your 10 games.

You can use any team you want. When you pick a team, the server matches you with a user who has picked a similarly rated team and is a similarly ranked player.

In my first match, I lost 1-0 as Chelsea against Manchester United. In the second match, I scored in the 90th minute to earn a 1-1 draw as Houston Dynamo against Puebla.

It's alot of fun so far. I've played 3 matches online with snoop too. I really think this is an enjoyable game to play online.

Smooth,

As a non-soccer guy, I need to tell you that I am loving this game. I play on pro with some big slider changes (to help me out). I only play 8 min halves so a full game with subs etc. take about 20-25 minutes max. The depth and detail is very enjoyable. I highly recommend this game to everyone. I am enjoying the MLS but after NEXT season I am going to try to get into Europe as there is way more depth there.

Right now I am working on a LOAN deal to bring in an up and coming big gun from INTER. My only problem is that to cover his wages I will need to change my transfer budget to ZERO and drop one of my rich players. My Whitecaps only have a transfer budget of 243,000. It is pretty brutal right now. However, San Jose now has new rich owners and they are saying they will spend HUGE dollars next season.

Just past the half way point of the season I am tied for second with Real Salt Lake and trailing the LA Galaxy. I have a 10 point cushion on 4th place Chivas USA, BUT WITH WINS BEING THREE POINTS A LEAD LIKE THAT MEANS NOTHING! Management expects me to make a wild card spot...

Just be sure you can send guys on runs (L1) and use through balls (triangle). Also, being able to volley through balls (L1+ triangle) and being good at crosses (square) is big. If you can get those down fairly well, you can compete in Division 10, at least.

1. I play in the Western Conference yet every pre-game it shows theEASTERN Conference stats (MLS)
2. Why is it literally impossible to follow the progress of my loaned/transfer players? I want to see how they are doing.

Things are getting tight... I just finsied a draw 1-1 versus Real Salt Lake and that tie has now created a three way tie for first (LA, VCR, RSL). We all have 41 points and are running away with the West. I still haven't played LA yet so that could be the season right there. Also, I loaned out Harris a few weeks back to the Toronot FC. I check up on him and in four games the guy has 1 goal and three assists. He had zero points in five games with me. I'm still having a hell of a time scoring. Oh, and I just found out theat INTER pulled out of the negotiations AFTER we struck a deal. :(

Here are the offers I received after winning the title in Germany.

Obviously, I could stay with Schalke. I was offered the job at Milan and Inter in Serie A. I was also offered Manchester City and Man U. The wages in Germany and Italy are $27 k per week, in England $29 k, so wages weren't a big factor.

My goal all along was to get to the EPL, so City and United were the top offers in my book. City has a Transfer Budget of $168 Million to $53 M for United. United has a slightly better starting 11. Both finished in the top 3 in the EPL (City 2nd, U 3rd), and both expect a League Title next year.

I guess it came down to whether I wanted the big budget and the chance to lift City to prominence, or if I wanted to be the manager of the winningest club in EPL history.

In the end, I chose the budget and Manchester City.

WOW! That is one heck of a budget. My problem is that I have no budget so anything I get is LOAN. However, I picked up this free agent RCB yesterday and he's a 61 and only 18 yrs so I hope it's a steal for me. Basically my entire team is made up of 60ovr players. My youth scouts... I have only focussed on USA, Mexico, and Ireland BUT i THINK I HAVE NABBED 1-2 FUTURE KEY ROSTER PLAYERS. I now sent my weakest scout to Canada... figure I better find some homegrown talent...

Last night I tied LA Galaxy 3-3 in an excellent game. I think I need to tweak the sliders again though because I might to getting too good for my pro slider set. Still loving this game and with the heart of the playoff run right now, it's getting exciting.

Messi paid dividends immediately, scoring a hat-trick in the opener vs Bolton. Manchester City won the match, 4-0.

Here is Messi's 3rd goal. I don't know if I could have pulled this off with anyone else.

I am playing on Professional and have been moving sliders to help the CPU. I may have to jump to World Class, if this continues. My next match (at Manchester United) should give me a better idea of where I stand with sliders.

3-4-3 eh??? My team just isn't good enough to run that. I am pretty much exclusively using the 4-4-2(1) excep when I am trailing I switch to the 4-3-3 (1). However, I might have to switch to 4-3-3 (1) as my base formation as I just picked up this kid (Barakar) on loan and he is a stud. I have strong strikers and I am trying to build up Salgado at the same time while having to listen to Jarju whine and cry about playing time.

Do you know what they paid?

Did they win the domestic cup that MLS participates in in the game (can't remember which it is)?

Are you sure it was San Jose that got the new owners, and not Toronto?

Well, the tweaks I made after blowing out Bolton led to a 2-0 loss at United.

That's good news, I can stay on Professional and still have a competitive game from top-flight competition.

Now, I can zero in on getting the numbers where I want them (high 20s in combined shots and around 3 total goals per match, on average).

It took me 6 games (3-1-2) to get the 10 points necessary to be promoted from Division 10 to Division 9 in Head-to-Head Seasons online.

Now in Division 9, I need 6 points in 10 games to avoid relegation. 12 points gets me a promotion to Division 8.

I sent a PM to those of you who I know have this game on PS3. It details the tournament that I want to start here at TGT.

If you did not get the PM, and would be interested in participating, PM me and I will forward the details to you. The PM went out to 6 guys (7 including me). We need at least 8 to use the format that I am suggesting. We can handle any number of entrants over 8, so all TGT members are welcome.

The target date to get started is 1/16/12. This should give the Christmas noobs some time to polish their skills.

Once I get a few more commitments, we will set up a sub-forum in the Donator Leagues section. When we get a sub-forum up and running, I'll post all of the details there.

I was in the exact same boat as you a few months ago. I really didn't know much about soccer and I hadn't owned a soccer game since the Genesis days.

I downloaded the game for the Early Release through Season Pass and I really liked what I saw. I bought the game on release day, and have played the hell out of it since. At last check, I have played well over 150 matches and I am still really enjoying it.

The career mode is alot of fun and it has taught me alot about the various leagues and teams. I've also gained an understanding of player movement, and all of the various competitions that teams play during a season.

I took the approach that no one was going to teach me and just figured it out as I went along. I started out as the manager of Houston Dynamo in MLS. After a season, I took over SC Braga in Portugal, then went to FC Schalke 04 in Germany.

Now, in my fourth season, I have made it to the English Premier League and I am managing Manchester City.

It is a great game. The graphics are nice, the presentation is good (the various leagues have different looks to the score bar and other TV style graphics), the commentary is fantastic (there are 2 commentary teams), and the game is fun to play.

If you think you may enjoy it, you will. It will exceed your expectations. There will be a learning curve, but most of it will be off the field.

Obviously there are a few guys here who can help you, myself included.

This is on my future purchase list. FIFA 10 was my first ever soccer game and played it a lot, but everything I've heard about 12, as well as playing it in the early release, I definitely need to upgrade. It'll depend on when though. Might not be for another month or two.

Edit - In fact, hell, I think I'm going to throw FIFA 10 in the Xbox when Casino Royale is over on TV. I haven't played 10 in months, maybe a year, so it'll be nice to at least get back into some soccer, if anything to tide me over, and let me work on my soccer skills, until the time comes that I finally purchase 12.

Man, I still love this game.

I'm in year 4 (now with Manchester City) and I'm just past the mid-point of the league schedule. I'm tied for 3rd in a very tight race.

I've already been eliminated from the League Cup and the Champions' Cup, but the FA Cup just started and I'll be playing in the Europe League soon (I had a bye through the Group Stage).

With so many domestic and continental competitions, the season never gets stale. This season will take me between 50 and 60 matches to complete, but I can't go fast enough.

Great game.

Lol.

It's really strange how this game has opened my eyes to soccer.

I've never cared about the sport at all, I knew next to nothing about it when this game released, and I hadn't played a soccer title since the Sega Genesis.

I have learned alot about Association Football by playing FIFA 12 and by reading about teams, leagues and competitions in the last few months. I'm even following, to a degree, the real world sport and watching matches when I get the chance. The Premier League Weekly Review show has been something I've started watching too.

I think I took my lack of knowledge as a challenge when I started playing. I was determined to learn enough to understand what was happening when a FA Cup match, or Champions League match, popped up on my schedule. It's been alot of fun learning about how these competitions work.

Anyway, I'm hopeful that our FIFA League will continue beyond the tournament that is ongoing now. I'd really like to see it turn into multiple competitions and, eventually, grow from the eight participants we have now into an even bigger format.

I finally finished my 4th season in Manager Mode. It was my first year at Manchester City and it took 60 matches to complete because of all of the competitions.

I finished 4th in the Premier League, but I was just 4 points behind the winners, Manchester United. Liverpool was second and lost the title to Man U on Goal Differential while Chelsea finished 3rd. Tottenham finished 5th.

Other winners: Carling Cup - Tottenham, Champions' League - Real Madrid, Europa League - Manchester City, European Super Cup - Bayern Munich, FA Cup - Wigan Athletic.

My win in the Europa League may have been what got me another year at City. I was sweating it because they expected me to win practically everything. The cool thing about winning the Europa League is that I will get to play against Real Madrid (Champions' League winners) for the European Super Cup at the beginning of next season.

Anyway, I already had an incredible lineup, but when the new season started, I had another $167M to spend. I've bought 3 more stars: Sergio Ramos, Hummels, and Neymar and I'm not done yet.

Here is my opening day lineup:

GK J. Hart 85
RB Sergio Ramos 87
RCB M. Hummels 88
LCB T. Vermaelen 85
LB Fabio Coentrao 85
RCM Hernanes 86
LCM Y. Toure 85
CAM J. Wilshere 89
RW L. Messi 95
ST Alexandre Pato 89
LW Neymar 89

Substitutes:
GK C. Pantilimon 72
RB B. Sagna 83
LB G. Clichy 82
CDM N. de Jong 82
CDM G. Barry
ST E. Dzeko 86
LW A. Johnson 84

Other notables:
CB P. Mertesacker 84*
LB A. Kolarov 81
CB J. Lescott 80
ST A. Ujah 80

*out 4 months with a torn ACL.

Should be another fun season. This is the first time I've returned to a club for a second year. I went from Houston to Braga to Schalke before getting the Manchester City job.

Gus,

For my offline career, I decided to start in the MLS, as a manager, with the goal of getting to the EPL. I started in Houston, then took the job at Braga, them Schalke. After that, I finally eached the Premier League with Manchester City. I'm in my second season there. That seemed like a good way to do things to me.

As for the TGT League, we are a little over halfway through Season 1. We'll probably finish up in a week out two. After that, we'll be looking to start a new season and you are certainly welcome to throw your name into the mix.

Does anyone play on all MANUAL settings? I'm trying, sure is hard to get my passes and shots on target. I played my first league manager match, took over the Portland Timbers. Went against FC Wollen (Spelling?) and ended in a 1-1 draw. I had it on armature but played on all MANUAL controls.

Getting better played 2nd friendly with Portland Timbers, mind you I'm still on amateur but I beat FC Koln 4-0. I've been practicing a lot. I go to the practice pitch and put 5 attackers and 0 defenders then work on my passing, crossing, and shooting.

This game is very addictive.

Man, since the end of the tourney I have played THREE games versus the cpu. I figured I would destroy the cpu after the quality competiton from online. Well, I have drawn one and lost two. The cpu passing game continues to kill me. The only area of this game IMO that needs a serious patch is the amount or rather lack there of, of yellow and red cards. It seems like in FIFA 12, 1 card per game is average where in some EPL games you see in the range of 10-20 cards.

In regards to sliders, I have been tracking statistics for a few months in the Barclay's Premier League.

In the last 49 matches, I have tracked goals and shots. The numbers I have for those 49 contests show an average of 3.06 goals and 28.12 shots.

In the last 32 matches, I have also tracked shots on target. In these games, there has been an average of (again) 3.06 goals, 9.28 shots on target, and 28.03 shots. That indicates that 33.11% of shots are on target, and 33.00% of shots on target result in goals.

Therefore, I've been working with those types of numbers in formulating my sliders. My aim is to use a "rule of 3" as a guideline for my results. That is, on average, I want to have 3x the number of shots on target as I do goals, and 3x the number of shots as I do shots on target. An easy way to look at this is 3 goals, 9 SOT, and 27 shots. If I average these numbers, I am generating proper statistics and am satisfied with my slider set as long as the matches are competitive.

In my last 10 Career Mode matches, there have been 24 goals, 280 shots, and 114 SOT. That is about 40% on target, with 21% of SOT resulting in goals. My objective now is to have fewer SOT, but more goals. So I have been working on lowering accuracy and goalkeeping. I'm also tweaking CPU Marking to make my shots be challenged more (so they are tougher to put on target).

Here is my latest slider tweak. This seems much closer to what I'm aiming for. I've only played a small handful of matches with this setup, so I'm not sure. I thought I'd post them anyway, in case anyone else wants to try them out.

Half Length: 15 minutes
Difficulty: Professional
Game Speed: Normal

Slider: User/CPU
Shot Error: 60/60
Pass Error: 65/62
Injury Frequency: 63/63
Injury Severity: 55/55
Goalkeeper Ability: 42/40
Marking: 45/47
Run Frequency: 85/85

Everything that I didn't list is 50/50.

With this set, the game feels wide open but it is still tough to score. The CPU pushes the ball forward quite a bit, shoots from longer range occasionally, uses lobbed through passes, and generally attacks in a way that it does not on default.

Statistically, here is what my last 3 matches have produced between both clubs: 3.00 goals, 26.33 shots, and 11.67 shots on target.

For comparison's sake, the last 32 real-world BPL matches I have tracked have produced 3.06 goals, 28.03 shots, and 9.28 shots on target. Pretty close.

I should note that I am in year 5 of Manager Mode and I am using Manchester City which I have built into, perhaps, the strongest club in the world. My last 3 matches were vs. West Ham (14th in BPL, won 4-1), at Fulham (16th in BPL, won 2-1), and at Villarreal (6th in La Liga, won 1-0) so the competition has been pretty average. Villarreal is stronger than their league ranking indicates.

The roster update came out a couple of days ago. There has been a known issue where the game freezes for some users who try to update their rosters.

I ran into this issue and the only suggestion I found was to delete your Creation Centre data and then re-download it after the update. My problem was that I don't have any Creation Centre data.

So, I deleted my "Squads 1" file and then the update took.

Just thought I'd share this here in case anyone else has this problem.

When I first got the gamew I had to delete ALL of my creation centre in order to stop the game from freezing. I didn't upload them again and haven't had a problem since. Clearly though, creation centre has had its share of problems this year. As for the updated roster freeze, I have not had a problem yet... knock on wood.

I finally finished my 5th season in Manager Mode. It took 63 matches to complete running my (admittedly sad) total number of Manager Mode matches to 241.

In my second season at Manchester City, I posted a 42-14-7 record across all competitions. I won the European Super Cup (qualified by winning the Europa League in season 4) and the Carling Cup. Unfortunately, I lost the EPL title in the 89th minute of the final match of the season. Chelsea earned a 2-2 draw with me and won the title on goal differential.

I decided to stay for a 3rd campaign with City. Here is a look at my opening day roster:

GK J. Hart 85
RB Sergio Ramos 87
RCB N. Subotic 85
LCB M. Hummels 88
LB Fabio Coentrao 85
RCM Hernanes 86
LCM Y. Toure 86
CAM J. Wilshere 89
RW L. Messi 95
ST Alexandre Pato 89
LW E. Dzeko

Substitutes
GK M. Ryan 74
CB S. Benedetti 83
LB A. Kolarov 81
CDM Casemiro 85
CDM S. Kara 83
ST S. Doumbia 85
LW A. Johnson 84

Notable Reserves
RB B. Sagna 83
CB S. de Vrij 82
CDM N. de Jong 82
CF Neymar 89*
ST R. Lukaku 82
ST A. Ujah 80

*out 8 weeks with MCL injury

These are the winners from my 5th season, in the competitions I was in:

Premier League - Chelsea, Carling Cup- Manchester City, Champions League - Manchester United, Europa League - Bayern Leverkusen, European Super Cup - Manchester City, FA Cup - Tottenham.

Per CLW's request, I'm going to post the sliders that I'm currently using. I have developed these since the release of Euro 2012.

To give some perspective on how I work on FIFA sliders, let me explain what I look at most. This season, I tracked the statistics of nearly 100 Barclay's Premier League matches. In those matches, I discovered the following averages: 2.71 goals, 9.13 SOT, 28.47 shots. 32.06% of shots were on target and 29.73% of SOT resulted in goals.

I am using Manchester City in Manager Mode. I'm in year 6 (my 3rd year at City) and my team is quite stacked so keep that in mind.

Here are the scores from my last 10 matches using these sliders:

vs Everton W 2-1
@ Wolves D 2-2
@ AC Milan D 0-0
vs Liverpool W 2-1
@ Ajax L 1-2
@ Bolton W 2-1
vs Spurs W 1-0
@ QPR W 3-0
@ Swans D 0-0
vs Wigan W 5-2

27 goals in 10 matches. 2.70 per.

I've only tracked shots for the last 3 matches, but in those there have been 80 shots with 27 on target and 10 resulting in goals.

Those numbers, albeit a small sample size, translate to 26.67 shots per match with an average of 9.00 on target. 33.75% of all shots are on target and 37.04% of SOT result in goals. As you can see, all of my numbers are VERY close to the real-world BPL averages. In addition, I've had matches with 0 goals and matches with as many as 7. I've also had matches with as few as 20 shots and matches with as many as 38, so I am getting fantastic variety.

Here are the pertinent Settings that make my sliders tick:

Half Length: 15 minutes
Difficulty: Professional
Game Speed: Normal

Under Rules, turn everything ON.

As for the actual sliders (User/CPU):

Sprint Speed: 46/46
Acceleration: 50/50
Shot Error: 77/67
Pass Error: 64/61
Shot Speed: 50/50
Pass Speed: 54/54
Injury Frequency: 63/63
Injury Severity: 55/55
Goalkeeper Ability: 60/62
Marking: 50/54
Run Frequency: 55/55
Line Height: 42/42
Line Length: 47/47
Line Width: 46/46
Fullback Positioning: 56/56
Power Bar: 50/-

If you decide to use these, remember, you should get a huge variety of results so make sure to get a good sample size before passing judgement.

Enjoy!

No problem, jaymo. I hope they work out for you.

Since I posted those I have played 2 more matches and I kept the shot numbers. I won, 2-1, at Liverpool and, 4-1, at Aston Villa.

So, in 12 matches, there have been a total of 35 goals (2.92 per).

In the last 5 matches, there have been 149 shots, 60 SOT, and 17 shots have resulted in goals (there have been 18 goals, but one was an Own Goal by Liverpool).

So, over those 5 matches, I have had 29.80 shots and 12.00 SOT. 40.27% of shots have been On Target (a little too high, but it's a small sample) and 28.33% of the SOT have resulted in goals. Overall, still pretty good results.

Here is an update, following those 3 more matches last evening:

(Real-world averages in parenthesis)

In my last 15 matches...

Goals 2.87 (2.71)

In my last 8 matches...

Shots: 27.88 (28.47)
SOT: 11.88 (9.13)
SOT%: 42.60% (32.06%)
SOT Goal%: 26.32% (29.73%)

I've gotten 7 more matches in over the course of the last couple of days. Here are the results:

vs Manchester United L 2-3
@ Spurs D 2-2
vs Charlton Athletic W 3-1
vs Bolton W 2-1
vs Marseille L 0-1
vs Arsenal W 3-1
@ Marseille W 2-0

I now have 22 match scores, and 15 sets of shooting statistics. I believe that is a large enough sample size to give me an indication of how things are shaking out.

Obviously, I have to keep in mind that my team is loaded. Every one of my Starting XI is an 85-89 OVR and the worst of my Substitutes is an 82. I also have several 80+ in reserve and an 89 and an 86 that are injured. With that sort of roster, my statistics should be inflated.

That said, here are some averages:

Goals: 3.00
BPL: 2.71

Shots: 27.80
BPL: 28.47

SOT: 11.67
BPL: 9.13

SOT%*: 41.97
BPL: 32.06
User: 44.44
CPU: 37.42

Goal%**: 25.14
BPL: 29.73
User: 27.50
CPU: 23.64

*This is the percentage of shots that are on target.

**This is the percentage of shots on target that result in goals (Own Goals were thrown out for this statistic).

I'm in the process now of considering what I might change, and how much I will change it.

I made a couple of changes based on the numbers I was getting. I raised User Shot Error by 6 and CPU Shot Error by 3. I also lowered User Goalkeeper Ability by 3 and CPU Goalkeeper Ability by 2.

The idea is to get fewer SOT, but to get a slightly higher percentage of SOT to result in goals.

Once I get a few more games under my belt with these sliders, I'll post some numbers. I can accept some oddities in my numbers, based on the strength of my club. However, I think that my SOT% is out of line so that is the one I'm most trying to adjust.

Here is what I'm going with right now. Note that they are largely untested:

Sprint Speed: 46/46
Acceleration: 50/50
Shot Error: 89*/70
Pass Error: 64/61
Shot Speed: 50/50
Pass Speed: 54/54
Injury Frequency: 63/63
Injury Severity: 55/55
Goalkeeper Ability: 57/60
Marking: 50/54
Run Frequency: 55/55
Line Height: 42/42
Line Length: 47/47
Line Width: 46/46
Fullback Positioning: 56/56

Eight more matches in the books since making the last slider adjustments.

vs QPR W 5-0
@ Stoke City W 2-1
vs Birmingham City W 4-1
@ Newcastle United W 2-0
vs Arsenal D 1-1
@ Chelsea L 1-2
@ Arsenal L 1-2
@ Manchester United W 1-1 (4-3 p)

Good mix of results, but I haven't gotten the massive changes to SOT% that I was hoping for. Therefore, I'll probably make some more big changes to Shot Error. That's for tomorrow.

That game at Man U was intense! After Arsenal eliminated me from the Champions League in the Quarterfinals, I really needed to win at Old Trafford. It was the semifinals of the FA Cup and I had already lost out early in the Carling Cup. Winning the FA Cup may be my only shot at silverware this season as I trail United by 6 points with 6 matches remaining in the Premier League (I don't have a match left with them either) and they are unbeaten (23-9-0) in league play. I had a draw and a loss against them in our prior meetings this season.

I am raising User Shot Error, by 6 again, to 89. That is the only change for now. I'll give some more numbers after I get through this season (7 more matches, including the FA Cup Final with Chelsea).

I finally finished up my sixth season as a manager in Career Mode last night. It was my third year at Manchester City and I posted a record of 37-6-12 (W-D-L) across all competitions. I finished 2nd in the BPL, won the FA Cup, lost in the Quarters of the Champions League, and lost in Round 2 of the Carling Cup.

Manchester United won the league title, with Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool qualifying for Europe next season, behind me.

Here are the winners from the year:

Premier League - Manchester United
Champions League - FC Barcelona
Europa League - Tottenham
European Super Cup - Manchester United
FA Cup - Manchester City
Carling Cup - Chelsea

After 3 seasons at City, I decided it was time to move on. I moved to Spain and Liga BBVA (aka La Liga) to take the job at Valencia CF. This should provide a good challenge as Valencia, while good, is not on par with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, among others in La Liga. The good news for me is that Valencia qualified for the Champions League this year. I'll also be competing (obviously) in the Copa del Rey which is the Spanish Cup.

I have 296 career matches in the books and I've posted a 188-55-53 record. I've won one league title, 3 domestic cups, and 1 continental cup in 6 years.

I also got through to the start of the season last night (I've simmed every Friendly since about my 2nd season). I sold a few depth players and made 3 purchases that will impact my Starting XI.

I bought my old Keeper, Joe Hart, from Manchester City, RB Silvio from Man U, and CM Sebastian Rudy from Hoffenheim.

Here's what my Starting XI looks like:

GK J. Hart 85
RB Silvio 81
RCB A. Rami 85
LCB Victor Ruiz 83
LB Dominguez 84
RM Pablo Hernandez 82
RCM L. N'Guemo 80
LCM Dani Parejo 84
LM Jordi Alba 83
CAM S. Rudy 81
ST Soldado 83

All of my reserves and substitutes are below 80.

I'm opening up the season with a pair of matches against Norwegian side, Rosenborg BK, in the Playoff Round of the Champions League to try and qualify for the Group Stage.

I'm looking forward to getting the new season underway. :)

I got by RBK, earning a 0-0 Draw on the road and a 3-1 win at home. I was LUCKY to advance. 2 of my 3 goals were on penalties and the other was an Own Goal by RBK.

Valencia is slow, compared to what I'm used to at City. I just changed my formation from their default 4-4-1-1 (2) to a 4-3-3 (4) to try and boost my attack without having to re-work my Starting XI. Needless to say, I am back on the Transfer Market trying to find some affordable speed up front.

To give you an idea, I have 19 shots in 2 matches. Without going too far back, I averaged over 17 per match in my last 7 matches with City.
