Streak for the Cash. Sounds like an event from Steelerfan's Thursday nights. :fp: :D

I did this for a while. It's better when there's football and basketball to "bet" on. All this soccer, tennis, golf, and baseball shit aren't my games.

I joined though I probably wont make too many pick this time of year because it's all baseball & I'd just screw the group over. :D Or are we just competeing against each other? Not sure what the point of the groups are...

Not only am I trying to set a personal high on MLB Beat the Streak today...I'm going for my personal high (this go around) on Streak for the cash as I try to get to 5. I think my all-time high on Streak for the Cash is 11.

I got to 10 once but haven't been close to that since :D:D

I'm not a big tribe fan, though since I picked the Jays someone should go with the Indians.

Last night was brutal betting night. I had jays and nats In a 3 team round robin with the marlins I think who won 5-0 I just need the nats who were up 7-0 in the 6th to win by 2 and the Jays who were up 4-0 in the bottom of the 9th to hold on, while we all know how that went :fp:

Not so fast, my friend! Real Madrid comes storming back, scoring goals in the 68th and 72nd minutes to tie it up 2-2. Unless Barcelona scores 2 more goals in the last 15 minutes (or however much time is actually left), I'm improving to 2 for 2.

Damn, this is a bad day. I hate picking CBB or NBA just because no matter who the teams, it's essentially 50/50 in the end, especially with the way teams have been getting upset left and right in CBB. I refuse to touch golf, that's just begging for an incorrect pick. And after needing Real Madrid to go apeshit in the last 30 minutes of their match yesterday against Barcelona to get me the win with the Real Madrid win/draw/lose by 1 pick, I'm not feeling to crazy about picking AC Milan to win against Lazio. Plus the 90% curse, with AC Milan having 95% of the picks currently, really has me even more weary of picking it.

Yes, I know that. What I'm saying is, I'm 3-0. I am still undefeated. I'm still perfect. I'm still pitching 1.000. That is why I'm being picky. I know there's nothing I can do streak-wise right now this late in January, so I don't give a damn about that. I'm just trying to keep my perfect record when it comes to picks and in the TGT group.

My bad, meant batting 1.000. Was in a rush as I was walking out the door for work just a minute or two after making that post, so I was just typing and didn't review what I had typed.

But yeah, I realize there's nothing I can do this month regarding a streak. But after Real Madrid came through for me yesterday (and AC Milan today), I just want to keep my perfect record for as long as possible, right now that's all that matters to me regarding SFTC. Once I get my first loss, either before or after February comes around, then I'm going to settle into just trying to build up a streak and keep it going. But right now, for me, it's all about keeping that 0 in the loss column for as long as I can.

Damn, if I had talked myself into taking the chance with UNC winning by 15 or Ole Miss making more 3-pointers than the margin of victory for Florida, I could be 4-0 right now. But, I am going to take a chance on the Clippers to beat Memphis. Hopefully the Clips don't let me down tonight.

And the Clippers win, improving me to 4-0. Hopefully I can get to 5-0 (at least) before having to suffer my first loss. Now just the decision of picking soccer (which I'm 2-0 on) yet again for the third day in a row or picking college basketball (which I'm 1-0 after Michigan managed to hold on against Purdue on Tuesday) for tomorrow.

Up to 5-0 thanks to Niger beating Tunisia. Now to decide whether to take a chance on one of the 7pm college games, or risk it with a 3 pointer being made or not in the last 2 minutes of the second quarter in the Knicks-Heat game.

Thank you Iona. Despite it becoming a very tight game with just a couple minutes left, Iona holds on to beat Fairfield 71-62, to improve my record to 6-0. Now to root for the Thunder in an hour and a half to get me to lucky number 7.

SmoothPancakes

And hello lucky number 7. Picked up three wins today, with Niger beating Tunisia in soccer 1-0, Iona defeating Fairfield 71-64, and the OKC Thunder getting a 120-109 win over Golden State. 7-0 in my run to the top of the TGT group. One more win and I tie snoop for the longest streak in the group. Now that I've surpassed 5 wins and am currently up to 7, time to make a run for 10-0.

First pick is:

Kevin Durant less than 15 points in first half of game tonight against Mavs. In 20 games, he's scored 15 or more points only 6 times (granted, one game against the Mavs, out of the two they've played so far, he scored 18 in the first half back in December and he did just go apeshit against the Clippers two nights ago, scoring 20 points in the first half).

I think it's a safe pick though and it's what I'm rollin' with.

Now just gotta find something worth picking that ends before the deadline for that pick.

Yeah, I try to time my picks out. I usually hit one of the soccer matches during the morning or early afternoon, then I try to figure out what I feel is the safest pick for the 7pm college or NBA games, and then hit up one of the 9pm or later games. I'm not sure what I'm going to do tonight yet. I'm tempted to jump on that Kevin Durant pick, or I could go with one of the 7pm games, jump on the Thunder-Mavericks 3rd quarter pick, and then end the night with the Clippers-Jazz.

Picking any team in the Big East right now is an exercise in frustration. No one is playing great basketball in the Big East against one another right now. It's crazy. I mean, Syracuse needs a totally blown and bullshit-that-it-wasn't-called goal tending call to get away from a WVU team that can't beat Pittsburgh (hadn't won a game away from home all season until beating WVU), St Johns (the second worst game I've ever witnessed in my life), and Seton Hall (the worst game I've ever witnessed in my life). Yet, they are the cream of the crop in the Big East. It's insane how close all the teams in the Big East are to one another this season.

That said, I could definitely see Georgetown beating the shit out of Connecticut because they're playing at Georgetown, where they rarely lose.

As for the 3rd quarter points between the two teams, that's a slamdunk 50+. These teams regularly score in the 90s or 100s, so 25 a piece from them is definitely quite conceivable.

True, but those two haven't gone over 50 in their prior two meetings this season.

In the 1st game at Oklahoma City that OKC won 104-102, there was 46 3rd quarter points. In the 2nd game at Dallas that Dallas won 100-87, there was 42 3rd quarter points. So it's a bit of a tossup, on whether you think they will finally top 50 this time, or whether they will have a third game under 50 in the 3rd quarter.

morsdraconis
02-01-2012, 07:07 PM
Well, percentage wise, they're MUCH more prone to scoring 26+ themselves along with allowing the other team to score 24+. Nearly half of their games played (9 out of 20), they plus the team they've played has added up to 50+. Now, true that against one another, they've yet to hit the 50+ mark in the 3rd quarter, but I would be hard pressed to not bet on the over this time around.

02-01-2012, 07:22 PM

6 points now with ~ 3 minutes left in the first.

Updates on other bets:

Providence +11 on Rutgers (56-45) with ~9 minutes left in the game.

Lets see, he had seen his shadow 99 times out of 116 times before today, 100 now, and has never not seen his shadow two years in a row. Yet they were all still going on about how he wouldn't see it because it was cloudy out and this and that, apparently not realizing that the "Inner Circle" had whether or not he'd see it yet already decided probably long before this morning. Well, this morning is dead for me now. I refuse to touch golf, especially when I'm on a winning streak. That shit is so "flip a coin because no one has a damn clue" 50/50, that I will never risk a streak on golf.

Now, do I risk my W3 streak on Chievo Verona to beat Novara? Looking at the stats and standings, Novara SUCKS and Chievo Verona should just whoop their ass. But Chievo Verona is also getting the Win/Draw prop, which suggests there could be something unknown, or it could be the streakmaster setting this up as a trap game. Or it could be the mafia putting money in this game and the fix is on.

Thus the reason why I avoid golf and soccer matches. I have no fuckin' clue on either of them to even make a semi-educated guess.

So, I'm skipping it and taking the under on Murray State tonight. There's no way that Murray State beats Southeast Missouri State by 15+. SEMO isn't a great team, but they've torched some really good teams that have given Murray State some trouble. I might not get as many points as someone that took a chance on betting most of the games today, but I'd rather take something that seems like a sure thing over not having a fuckin' clue on something and betting anyway.

Also, FYI on the Soccer game, it was a 2-2 tie first game of their season and Chievo Verona is 6-6-8 and Novara is 2-6-12.

Standings-wise, absolutely, Chievo Verona looks like the better team, but here is a breakdown of their games against like opponents (opponent score first):

Take from that what you will, but I'm not seeing anything that indicates going one way or another with the match so I'm staying away from it.

Yeah, screw it, I'm gonna stay away from that match. The "favorite" getting the Win/Draw instead of the underdog is sort of scaring me away, along with that run down of the schedules. If it was Win/Draw/Lose by 1, I'd be all over it, but just Win/Draw, I'm not too comfortable or trusting of that one. That sucks because including my one week in January, I'm 6-0 in soccer, the only sport I'm still perfect in. College basketball I'm 5-2 in, and NBA I'm 2-3. But if I'm not comfortable with the pick, I'm not chancing it.

And yeah, unlike these people who made 5 picks yesterday, and sit there picking as many as they can every day, before eventually losing, I'm taking it slow and easy, trying to get as many correct as I feel safe about. As long as I remain undefeated and have a streak going, I'm trying to keep it going with only picks I feel certain about, instead of trying to run up a streak by picking 4-5+ matches a day. I'm in this bitch for the money. :D

Looking at some of the comments, I think I know now why Chievo Verona-Novara looks like such a trap game. Chievo is 1-6-3, 7 goals for, 18 against on the road, Novara is 2-4-4, 12 goals for, 19 against at home. Yeah, I'm staying away from that one now. All I can think of is Guinea-Ghana from yesterday and the 93.7% who got screwed because Guinea pulled out the 1-1 draw.

:D The only time I will EVER be willing to pick a golf prop, is if I'm on a losing streak. If I have even a W2 streak, I will never touch golf. Way too much of a toss-up for me. Between course conditions, weather, wind, the chances of that one day being a good day or an off day for that golfer, it's pretty much literally a crap shoot.

I think I'm going to skip the 7 and 8pm games (just don't feel comfortable with any of them) and go with Washington to beat UCLA at 9pm.

I see a new prop has just been added a couple minutes ago, will there be a 3-pointer in the last 2 minutes of the first half between UCLA and Washington. Besides me planning to pick Washington to win straight up over UCLA, I'm staying away from that anyways as I got bit in the ass by a 3-pointer in the last 2 minutes pick last week during the last couple days of January.

Well, I fell asleep at halftime of UCLA-Washington last night, but thank God, Washington held on to get me up to W5. Now the decision of the morning/afternoon, do I risk my streak on the Union Berlin-Paderborn match, which would finish early enough to jump on the Dortmund-Nurnberg match, or skip that and just stick with Dortmund-Nurnberg. I really don't like any of the nighttime matchups, so soccer might be my only picks of the day.

Whew. I took a risk on Paderborn to beat Union Berlin, and thank God, they hold on to win 3-2. Up a W6 now. Hopefully Dortmund can get it done and bump me up to W7. Unless I can talk myself into some of these basketball props, I might shut it down for the day after Dortmund, if Dortmund wins and I would be sitting at W7, as I'm not feeling too comfortable with any of the matchups this evening.

Well, I was away from it for a few hours so I couldn't go with both of the soccer games, so I had to take a chance with golf instead. Normally, I stay away from soccer and golf completely, but I'm on a losing streak right now anyway, so I might as well take a chance.

SmoothPancakes

Yeah, golf and NHL are both things I refuse to touch. Golf is essentially a toss-up, regardless of pairings, and NHL, all it takes is for a goalie to have one bad night out of the week to completely fuck you. Even the best goalies in the NHL have bad nights. Basketball, college and NBA, generally you can make logical picks and be correct probably 75%+ of the time. Soccer, if you follow the sport you can get a good streak going on just it.

Well, the Nuggets let me down, and I end at W7. Not bad, starting W8 and W7 in January and February. SmoothPancakes

Damn, 2/3rds of the leaderboard may be about to get screwed, and it may be a 96.3% sheep slaughter, with all of them picking Butler. Less than half an hour before the Detroit-Butler game, Butler's second leading scorer gets sidelined from concussion symptoms, and now not even 5 minutes into the game, another one of Butler's starters is out because a broken tooth. Only in a SFTC matchup would someone end up having their tooth get broken in the middle of a college basketball game. :D

SmoothPancakes
02-04-2012, 01:22 PM
And Detroit pulls off the massive anal abuse of 2/3rds of the leaderboard, and the 96.3% of the 58% of all active picks who picked Butler. And thanks to Detroit my L2 is gone and back on W. Now to put my faith back to Denver and hope the Pioneers can get the upset and knock off MTSU. Not only would it get me to W2, but as a Denver Pioneers fan, it would be great to watch them beat MTSU and ruin the Blue Raiders' 10-0 conference record. And with 90% picking MTSU right now, it could be a repeat of Detroit-Butler coming up at 4pm.

morsdraconis

That's what I get for picking something without researching it even a little bit. Didn't realize Butler was so damn terrible.

I, as well, am going with Denver over MTSU. After some research, Denver is ridiculous at shooting 3 pointers. So, I'm going to live or die with their ability to shoot the 3.

That and Butler got some real bad luck. Their second leading scorer was held out of the game for concussion symptoms, and one of their starting guards got knocked out in the first 5 minutes because of a broken tooth. As for Denver, I think a lot of people are picking MTSU solely based on record, but Denver is a dangerous team. Of their 7 losses, they lost by 21 to #18 Cal back in November, but every other loss has been by 7 or less, with three coming in overtime by 2, 1, and 1 point margins. If Denver's team full of 3 pointer shooters goes even 50% for the game, they're gonna be either leading or right there neck and neck at the end.

My only scare is Denver sucks at rebounding (because they take so many three pointers) so it's a given that MTSU is going to outrebound them by 12-15 rebounds. Now, whether or not MTSU can convert some of those rebounds into fastbreak points or second chance points is going to determine how close of a game it is if Denver comes out smokin' from the 3 point line.

If Denver shoots 35-40% from 3 point range, I don't think it's going to be enough for them to get the win and make up for the large rebound margin.

Yeah, the lack of rebounds really kills them. Should still be a close game. Logically, I'm saying MTSU 67-61. As a Denver fan, my heart is saying Denver 71-69.

And on a SFTC now, my group leading W7 remains safe as JB and :sf: both go down in defeat as Real Madrid only wins 1-0. All I need now is for snoop to make a pick and get it wrong so he stops at W6.

Yeah, it was a stupid choice. I wasn't sure which Arsenal would show up, so I took the "safe" pick with the W/D/L1. Obviously, I should have gone with my original gut feeling of Arsenal with 2+. But, the Denver Nuggets ruined my W7 last night with their loss to the Lakers, so it was a throw away pick for me. I've since gone hot burning up the 80-90%+ sheep. Detroit for W1, Denver for W2, Kentucky bending over and ravaging South Carolina right now for W3. Now the only decision is whether or not I try to go 3-0 against the 90%+ sheep by picking the Spurs to beat the Thunder, or go after one of the 9pm or 10pm games.

Going against the Thunder with the Spurs isn't a good idea. There are two guarantees in that game: #1 Thunder are going to outrebound them. #2 Thunder is going to outshoot them from the field.

Only way the Spurs beat them is if they have another ghost of Tim Duncan game from Timmy. Anything else, and they are done for.

My pick is going Kansas with the W over Missouri. Kansas is going to bitchslap them. Missouri is soft.
