I'm catching the GTTV pre-Nintendo show, Jack Tretton has said that this will be out in Japan before the holiday, but probably not until 1Q of 2012 in the US, as he said it will definitely be out by the end of the fiscal year.

I think this might be a Wii 2 vs. PSVita for me. Going to get one or the other I think. It will depend on what we see here in just a little bit in Nintendo's presentation.

Other than their first party titles, I don't see the Wii2 giving any reason to purchase it. I can't imagine the graphics will be better than PS3/360... I imagine they'll be right on the same level at best.

Maybe if it has trophies/achievements ;) :D I know the PSVita will...so that is in the lead ;)

Yeah, Vita is a day one for me. The tech is cool and it's obviously going to get a ton of support, so it's worth it for me. Plus, it has trophies. I'll be whoring trophies while driving, just wait and see. :D

Yes to trophies :) I'll just get the $249 version with wifi. Not sure if it will be day one...depends on my cash flow at that point, but definitely when my tax return comes I will probably give this a shot.

Q: Will the Trophy system on the NGP work towards the same trophy amounts as we currently have on the PS3?

A: In terms of your Trophies, yes, the trophies you collect playing PS Vita games will add to your overall trophy count.

Q: Can we link our PS3 PSN accounts to the Vita and vice versa?

A: Yes, you will use the same PlayStation Network account that you've set up on your PS3 to access PSN on the PlayStation Vita console.

Q: How much will be the internal storage of the Vita?

A: Aside from the system software, all your data will be stored on external memory cards

:smh:

Anyone getting one of these things? I got the Early Edition bundle for $150 off the retail price by using some of my saved up Amazon credit, and I have to admit, I'm fairly impressed so far. The analog sticks are a bit small, as are the face buttons, but it's something I think I'll get used to fairly quickly. I will never understand why they make the screen and device so glossy when virtually all the menu surfing is done via touch screen. I've been using mine for like 15 minutes and it's already littered with fingerprints.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer. I got Little Deviants with it and I intend on picking up Escape Plan on PSN tonight after class as well as Uncharted.

I do know the trophy interface is WAY better than what we have on PS3, so that's hopefully a sign of things to come with PS4.

If it is comfortable to hold for more than 15 minutes I may consider.

It's extremely comfortable. It's basically like holding a flat DS3. As long as you don't have mammoth hands, you shouldn't have a problem. The analog sticks have a nice responsive feel to them, and they're right below the D-Pad and the face buttons so you can quickly and effortless reach all the buttons on the system. The whole thing has a roundish shape to it, so I've had no discomfort holding it whatsoever, compared to the PSP which would give me trouble after about 30 minutes.

The only complaint I have about holding it is the back touch screen. If you're not careful, it's very easy to bump the touch screen on the back and cause it to select something. There's rests on the back that are there to support your non-used fingers, so it'll just take some getting used to. I've already found a very comfortable way to hold it that doesn't involve me having my fingers in the middle back of it, so it definitely wont be an issue past about 15 minutes use with the system.

I have Uncharted Golden Abyss and Little Deviants, which came with it. I also bought Escape Plan off the store. I've played a couple chapters of Uncharted, and while it does take awhile to get used to the controls(especially the analog sticks), it's amazingly fun.

I've only played for about 10 hours or so since I've had it, but I'm already starting to notice some screen staining, and while it doesn't affect game play, it does annoy me. I looked it up and it apparently has something to do with an issue with OLED screens. It doesn't show up when color is displayed on the screen(for me anyway), but whenever a black loading screen is up, it looks like a bunch of dark uneven smears all over the screen. From what I've read it's normal and there's nothing that can be done about it, but I just hope it doesn't start to become apparent during actual game play.

Target is doing that, too, which is a bummer. I wish they would've waited until the week of March 6 so I could have gotten Unit 13, The Show 12, and then the free game. Rayman would be really fun I'm sure, but considering it's double the price you would pay for the 360/PS3 version, I have a hard time justifying it at that price.

From Joystiq:

The PS Vita has a system update lined up for tonight, preceding Wednesday's mainstream launch. Early adopters can update their systems to firmware version 1.61, which adds a Maps application to the home screen, allows for video recording in the Photos application, and allows for any ratings you make in the PlayStation Store to appear on Facebook. Additionally, the Discoveries screen now lists up to 100 players, as well as the number of times they've been seen.

The Content Manager Assistant app has been updated, and is available now both as a Windows and Mac download. Even if you've got version 1.60 already, you should make the jump to 1.61, as Sony says there are some systemwide performance improvements too. The latest firmware can be downloaded on the console over Wi-Fi, or can be updated from a PC or Mac with the Content Manager Assistant.

Okay, guess I'll revive this thread now that I'm going to have a Vita on Tuesday.

Beatn, Unit 13 pretty good?

I also got Hot Shots Golf from Buy.com for $20. I love that series, and the meta was a 76 on it.

Hot Shots Golf is great. Unit 13 is okay, but it's better with a co-op partner. Like I said, "okay" is the word to describe it. I didn't personally enjoy it.

Resistance Burning Skies is short but amazingly fun, so I definitely recommend that one. Everyone seems to love Gravity Rush, but I'm not really into that kind of game, so I haven't tried it.

Uncharted isn't nearly as good as the PS3 versions, but it's still good. Mortal Kombat is also pretty sweet.

It's honestly like having a little PS3 in your hands. :D

JBHuskers

I have about $15 in ebay bucks saved up, I hit some sort of big promotion when I got my 1TB PS3 HDD, so once that gets deposited, I'll probably get Resistance with it.

I know Sound Shapes (AWESOME game), Pinball Arcade, Zen Pinball 2 are PSN games I own that came with a Vita copy, so I'll be off to a good start right off the bat.

Beatn, you getting Killzone for Vita?

If they ever announce a Killzone for the Vita, yes, I'll be all over that.

You don't need to have played any of the Uncharted games. Sully is referenced in it, but that's about the only connection it really makes to the other games. I haven't totally beaten it yet, but like all the other games, they're virtually completely separate.

It's excellent, though. I never thought I'd be able to pull out a little device from my pocket(I don't carry it with me in my pocket, but you get the idea) and have a full on uncharted experience on a little 4 inch screen. Unbelievable.

Yeah I'm betting that 40 games is for all of Sony's consoles. I honestly doubt many publishers even bother with making a specific Vita game after PS4 given that all PS4 games are supposed to play on Vita.

Yeah, but you have to have content for the Vita. No one in their right mind is going to go spend $250+ for a glorified PS4 controller. I'm sure there will be some new Vita games revealed. It wasn't too long ago they teased about a "massive" one coming soon. I read that as Grand Theft Auto 5, but who knows.

Well its going to be more than a controller its basically the ability to take any PS4 game you have and play it on the road and jump between console/vita seamlessly with your save files (at least as I understood it).

Basically, its a really nice add on for someone who has a long train commute to work or a younger gamer that wants to play games on the road. Me I would have LOVED it for those long business trips with flights across country. I might not have even had to carry my PS4 with me (like I did when I was traveling a ton for work).

I think that feature is highly exaggerated. I know they said you could "take it with you and play it wherever you go," but I'm not buying it. You can't even play Vita games online over a cell phone signal, so how are they going to seamlessly stream a PS4 game? Now I might believe "take your Vita and play PS4 games over a WiFi connection," but I'm not even sold on that.

I mean, as far as I know, it's the same thing as remote play. With remote play, your PS3 has to be on and both systems have to have an active internet connection. I don't see how the PS4 would be any different. I think it's Sony trying to pull the wool over their customers' eyes. :D

Wouldn't turn on. Gave me a yellow light over the power button, which I thought just meant it wasn't charged, but I charged it a full 5 hours and it still didn't turn on. I called Sony and they walked me through the old "make sure it's charged" crap, then declared it was a hardware failure. I could send it in for $100 and they'd fix it.

If it was like going through a level and exploring then I would be all over it, but if it is just battling boss after boss in an arena type thing, I think it would get repetitive really fast.

Silent Hill Book of Memories is kind of like one. I played the demo and it was a dungeon crawler set in the Silent Hill universe and it was fun, but I've held off because it doesn't seem to want to drop in price. That changes next Tuesday though since it's one of the games on sale, so I'll definitely be getting it then.

Dungeon Hunter Alliance is one, too, but it got pretty bad reviews, so I'd stay away from that. I don't know of any others.

If they would release a Vita that took regular SD cards, those bastards would fly off the shelves. As it is now, you need a memory card to play games and those memory cards are some of the most ridiculously priced items I've seen, which I think is the main barrier to entry for most people. I mean, the device itself is EASILY worth the $250. It's truly amazing what it can do. However, until they get their killer app and lower the prices substantially on those cards, the Vita is going to continue to sputter it's wheels.

Which is bullshit, because as someone with a Vita, I'd love some 3rd party support.

This is an interesting firmware update...

PlayStation Vita Software Update Version 2.60 Released (http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/08/playstation-vita-software-update-version-2-60-released/)

Sony today released PlayStation Vita software update version 2.60, and it brings a very useful new feature to the company’s handheld gaming console. Basically the feature allows users to access content on other devices without having to copy those files to their consoles. Users are now able to play games as well as other content stored on a PlayStation 3 console or even a computer without ever needing to transfer all of it on the Vita. The update has been rolled out, which means that users can either download and install it over Wi-Fi or by connecting the Vita to a computer or PS3 console.

In order to access content from a Mac or PC, users will first need to install the Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation software from Sony. Accessing content stored on other devices is actually quite easy. Users just need to select the connected device from a list and then choose what content they want to access on their Vita. The update is also said to make it easier to upload or download saved data through PlayStation Network servers. A couple of new ways to control various browser and video settings have been added. Last but not the least, users are now able to customize Vita’s home screen through the console’s system buttons.

So if I buy a Vita I can now play the free Vita games on my PS3?

The way I'm reading it is you can store the Vita game on your PS3 and not have to take up the memory card space, and if you are on the same network, you can play the game from your PS3 HDD with your Vita. I'll have to dick around with it tonight.

From VG247:

Tinkering around with the update, Polygon report that the update allows quick uploading and downloading of game saves via PlayStation Plus cloud storage, as well as adding a PS Plus icon to the LiveArea screen for each game. Simply tap the icon to move your saves around on the cloud.

You can also access and play content from any connected PlayStation 3 or PC using the PS Vita’s on board music and video apps.

By holding down the PS button, users can now quickly enable flight safe mode, tweak wi-fi settings, adjust brightness and volume, as well as turning Bluetooth on or off.

What do you make of the update?

That makes me think it's just video and music content, not games.

It's not going to be like how they're letting it on to be. How would it be when it doesn't even have the same buttons? If you're going to buy a Vita, do it for the Vita library, don't do it because of the integration with the PS4.

They finally added anti-aliasing to the bubbles on the interface. I was joking about it the other day with a buddy so it's kind of funny they actually did it with this update. :D

I really hope they rip out the bubbles and redo the entire interface to match the PS4. It's current UI is horrible.

As part of the price drop to the console, memory cards will also be cheaper:

In addition to knocking $50 off the price of a PS Vita in North America, Sony has also announced memory cards for the device are now cheaper. 4GB cards are now $15, 8GB cards are $20, 16GB cards are $40 and 32GB cards are $80. These updated prices should be reflected at all North American retailers starting today.

I have a bunch of Amazon credit, so I just bit the bullet and forked the credit for a 32GB card. I was tired of having to constantly delete shit, so I just gave in, especially since Killzone is coming out next Tuesday and is 4.5GB by itself. I got it today, downloaded all the games I haven't played, and now I'm already down to 3GB left. :fp:

Seriously, what is so hard about an $80 64GB or 128GB card, Sony?

Announced last night:

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has revealed the PlayStation Vita TV, a miniature system that plays Vita games on the television.

The Vita TV has slots for both Vita games and memory cards, allowing users to play games on their tellies with a DualShock 3. It'll support 1,300 games, including Vita, PSP, and other PlayStation offerings. Like the Vita, Vita TV will also support PS4 Remote Play through a future system update. Vita TV also enables streaming services such as Hulu.

The PlayStation Vita TV will cost 9,954 yen including tax when it launches November 14 in Japan, that converting to around $100. There'll also be a bundle that includes a DualShock 3 controller and 8 GB Vita memory card for 14,994 yen after tax, or around $150.

Update: Sony Computer Entertainment's press release provides some specs on Sony's littlest new device. The Vita TV comes in at 6.5cm by 10.5cm, and weighs just 110 grams. It connects to the TV via HDMI, supports Wi-Fi, and has an internal memory card of 1GB. Also, Vita TV can connect to two DualShocks at once, this functionality applied with PSOne games in mind. Full specs are below the break.

Hi everyone! We’re releasing a new system software update for PS Vita, version 3.00. This update includes some great features, like a new application called PS4 Link, which — you guessed it — allows PS Vita to connect to PS4 for Remote Play and Second Screen capabilities. We’re thrilled for everyone to see how PS Vita will be the ultimate companion device to PS4 through this application.

PS4 Link
The PS4 Link app has been added to the PS Vita system’s home screen. With this application, you can use your PS Vita to remotely control a PS4 system, and play a range of PS4 games on your PS Vita screen. When you’re playing a game on PS4 that supports second screen features, you can also display information from that game on your PS Vita and use it as a second screen.
Parental Controls
The Parental Controls application has been added to the home screen. You can now manage the duration of game play, and the use of games and videos that have parental controls. You can also control access to certain areas of the system, including the use of the Internet browser and Location Data.
Photos
ŸA Panoramic Camera setting has been added. You can now take panoramic photos on PS Vita, and look around the photo by using the PS Vita’s built-in motion sensor.
Friends
The application layout for Friends has been improved. There are now four tabs:
Find Player on PSN
Friends
Friend Requests
Players Blocked
Messages
The Group Messaging application name and icon have been changed to Messages. The application layout has also been improved, and you can now send and receive messages with friends and players on PS4 or on mobile devices installed with PlayStation App.
Party
The icon for the Party application has been changed. You can now voice chat and text chat with friends and players on PS4.
Email
You can now sync the contacts saved in your email account from services including Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. To sync your contacts, select Contact List > Options > [CardDAV Settings] > [Add CardDAV Account], and then follow the screens.
Content Manager
You can now use Wi-Fi to connect your PS Vita to a PS3, and transfer data between them. Your PS Vita and PS3 must be connected within the same network.‎ Also, to use this feature, the system software of the PS3 you’re using must be version 4.50 or later.
PS3 Remote Play
The Remote Play application name and icon have been changed to PS3 Remote Play.
Settings
You can now download future system software updates automatically.
Trophies
You can now display Trophies of PS4 software on your PS Vita. Rarity of the trophy cannot be displayed.

Should be available tonight.

Borderlands 2 hits Vita in spring, alongside slim Vita US launch (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/02/10/borderlands-2-hits-vita-in-spring-alongside-slim-vita-us-launch/)

Borderlands 2 is coming to PS Vita in the spring, Sony head of hardware marketing John Koller announced at a PlayStation event in Santa Monica today. A God of War collection and a Sly Cooper collection are also on their way to Vita. The God of War bundle contains God of War 1 and 2.

The new, slimmer Vita will launch in North America this spring, Koller said, backed up by a tweet from PlayStation. The remodeled Vita is due out in the UK on February 7 for £180 (just under $300), following its launch in Japan last year. This new Vita is 20 percent thinner, 15 percent lighter, has an LCD screen rather than OLED, 1GB memory and a micro USB slot.

Borderlands 2 is 2K's highest-selling game ever, with more than 8.5 million units shipped.

Hopefully this new Vita retails for significantly less than $300 or they are wasting their time pushing it to market.

EDIT - Bundle will be $200. (http://kotaku.com/the-new-slimmer-version-of-the-playstation-vita-is-com-1520186370)

How is the vita holding up for you owners? I'm about to get finally! I know there isn't much games but for MLB the show I'll get it. can't afford a ps4 so this will work.

Another question how is lcd screen compared to oled screen? Is there much of a difference in them and how long they last?

Also has any one picked up the borderlands 2 Ps vita bundle? Basically I can only buy from target online and they have that one only in Stock. Unless I went and bought other gift cards to use at another store. Thanks to awesome gf and her couping sites , I landed free 10 20$gift cards. So I can get a vita finally!

Just looking for suggestions on that bundle and set up.. Thank guys.
