Sounds like from the NCAA Facebook page, we're going to get a lot of details about the demo this week.

Maybe a team for every major offensive type?

They do just on their Pro Combat uniforms (http://www.examiner.com/x-28560-Ohio-State-Buckeyes-Examiner~y2009m11d17-Nike-unveils-new-Ohio-State-Pro-Combat-Uniforms).

PastaPadre is reporting some additional demo details (http://www.pastapadre.com/2010/06/07/additional-ncaa-football-11-demo-details):

Earlier today it was revealed that Ohio State and Miami would be included in the NCAA Football 11 demo. As noted it was not explicitly stated that they would be the only teams in the demo. I’ve since been able to get some additional details on how the demo will be constructed as well as a change to when the demo will be out for the PS3.

There will be eight teams total within the demo and they will be selectable in four different matchups. That means that OSU vs Miami is one of the matchups but the option won’t be available to take OSU/Miami against one of the other six teams. The idea with the inclusion of eight different teams is to put on display the different authentic offensive styles that have been added to the game this year.

The remaining six teams are currently unknown but they will be revealed throughout the week in a similar manner as the first two were today. Quarter length for the games is something I hope to get confirmation on but they will probably be set at two or four minutes.

Updating on the release information first provided by EA Sports the demo will now arrive on the PS3 the same day as it will for the 360. The demo will be available for both on Monday June 14th. Leave your thoughts on the demo news in the comments!

8 teams!? PS3 demo on Monday June 14th? Maybe a quarter length greater than two minutes? Freaking awesome!! One more week!

I'm excited as well. Mainly because I've been waiting for a good football game for about 4 years now as I've been deprived of a really good online football game since the PS2 days. The demo will be a great way to see how the actual game will play. One week!

I think this is the most excited I have ever been for a demo. It will be nice to get to play with more than one team, plus a whole month to play before the retail version releases!

I don't care if its GT, Army, or Air Force I just hope I can get my hands on the flexbone! Hopefully its Air Force that way we can check out the option from the "I" Formations also.

Demos are meant to give you a taste of what it's like to play the final game. If they allowed online play, it would make the demo size much bigger and would introduce something probably meant to be saved for the final game. Matchmaking, stat tracking, ranking system, etc...all make it much harder to include in the demo. Plus, it's a major feature. It would be like allowing you to play a Dynasty, they just don't want you to be able to do that in a demo.

iBrandon

Shooters allow online play though.

I don't know why they don't make their demos online.
Never, ever, ever going to happen (well, in my opinion). Not as a demo, which is the key word. EA employees have been on record that there is sometimes a fear that if they put too many features in the demo (such as longer quarter lengths), they might lose potential sales of the actual title. Normally, I disagree with them. In terms of online, I completely agree with them. Most of the Random Online players, which is probably a sizeable chunk of the 'casual' user base, would be plenty satisfied to just use Florida or Texas or OU over and over and over again in the demo against online opponents and never actually purchase the title.

Think to how many people you know who have or would use the phrase "Well, I wasn't going to buy it anyway" for rationalizing a pirate copy of some expensive software, like Adobe Photoshop. That's pretty much the mindset you'd be talking about here. Except this time it would be "Well, I have no reason to buy it now."

Shooters allow online play though. That's beta. That's to test out the servers, especially a load test. That's all for the purpose of feedback and metrics for the development team. Case in point ... Mod Nation Racers had an Online Beta last December. That's quite a long way out from its release in May. Halo: Reach's beta is similarly early compared to release, if not earlier. I'm using MNR as my example because they then put a demo out a few weeks before release. The Beta was for the servers, not for the actual game experience.

They're two fundamentally different types of products, beta and demo. You'll also find that none, at least I'm fairly sure, of the games that offer online in a beta (or demo, if there are any) are on a yearly development cycle. That would absolutely kill the deliverable dates for the product.

I hope we get 3-4 minute quarters, and I'll definitely be playing with all eight teams.. probably Ohio State the most. Hopefully we get to mess around with the depth chart in the demo, but formation subs are good too.

iBrandon
06-11-2010, 10:13 AM
JeffHCross - Good points on the demo being online and you’re right about the difference between being a beta and demo. What they could do, is only allow the online portion of the demo to be used for a certain time frame and then cut it off… may be too much work though.

I also hope we get at least 4 minute quarters and we get a full game.

And I am with you guys… I am 29, married and have a child and I am so excited for the demo on Monday…lol. I also usually take a day or two off of work for NCAA and Madden.

JBHuskers

I doubt we'll ever have a football demo with 4 minute quarters. From a business sense, why give you a near full game for free? That would lessen the drive to buy the retail disc.

You think it would?

I don’t know many casual people who buy NCAA (I think more causal fans buy Madden) and with just 8 teams, I wouldn’t think it would cut down on any sales… but that’s just my thinking. Better for the NCAA team to be safe than sorry.

So you think we get 2 minute quarters and it’s a full game or just one half?

Rudy

Two minute quarters. I was hoping for a long game starting in the 4th quarter or a game just starting in OT but it's better than Madden 10's lousy one minute quarters.

I love my PS3 though I had a 360 before it RRODED on me and that was my first and last experience with xbox. However, I will say that demos and xbl updates for the 360 are amazing. The PS3 store leaves much to be desired. I fully expect to see the PS3 demo well after 5pm pacific or Tuesday for that matter. However, I would love to be wrong on this one. Just in case my wife is on standbye download mode since I'm at work.

Looking at their roster, I'm not impressed. They have really good talent and depth at some positions, but pretty thin at others IMO.

I really wish the demo got out this morning before I leave for work so I could have it when I get back, because for some reason my internet has always downloaded anything from the PSN Store stupidly slow.. probably will take me like 3-5 hours, even though it shouldn't, should go at like a GB an hour, but it doesn't.
