I thought the same thing but the article mentions "A new look for hero Cole MacGrath is just the first step; a new city, new powers, and a powerful new foe await you in Infamous 2". It really doesn't look enough like him though... I would have completely questioned it was him if he didn't have the messenger backpack.

I had more fun with inFamous than I did with Uncharted 2. That was a really cool game. Same set up like GTA but I liked the game SO much better. You felt like a superhero with the powers you acquired but you couldn't just run into a ton of bad guys and destroy them all. You had to use some caution and strategy or you would get your butt kicked. I can't remember the last non sports game that sucked so much time from me.

Cole does look completely different and they were casting a new voice actor as well. I do hope it's different - different powers (at least some of them), different bad guys and new missions. I'll be all over this game.

The IGN preview was nice. I like the new melee that's going to be in the game. Actually using an electrified pipe will be fun. And it seems as though they will be putting more boss fights in the game. Getting to take on a challenge more than just beating on a slew of dimwits would be great.

07-02-2010, 08:28 PM
The first inFamous was really good. Think of an electric superhero GTA type of game. The gameplay is a lot different than GTA (which is a good thing) and I loved how your character got stronger throughout the game. You were always vulnerable and it felt like you were more of a Spiderman hero than an invincible and boring Superman. The second one looks to be even better with some changes.

That video was cool. It was more scripted than something you saw in the first one but if it makes it more like Uncharted then this just got even better. I personally liked Uncharted better than Uncharted 2 as UC2 was too dependent on cut scenes and was overly scripted imo.

inFAMOUS 2: Morality Revealed, Meet the Companions

Greetings from the SCEE PlayStation Experience in London! We’re excited to be at the event, and for the first time, reveal how our duality/morality system will work in inFAMOUS 2.

Karma moments from inFAMOUS are now represented by character-driven dialogue and 3D mocap cutscenes. Your conscience comes into play with the introduction of Kuo and Nix, two NPC characters. Kuo is a NSA agent working to help Cole defeat the Beast. Nix is a New Marais native that grew up in the swamps around New Marias, whose hatred for Bertrand stems from witnessing him kill her family. She is your hedonistic guide that coaxes Cole into not thinking about the consequences of his actions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8IoxGiSUss

There will be multiple crossroads where Cole will decide to follow Kuo’s lead or give into Nix’s temptations. Your choices will directly affect the gameplay by permanently remaining in the world. Whatever path you choose, remember that in inFAMOUS 2 you can always change your mind. It’s never too late to look for redemption… or to say “to hell with it” and become selfish.

Attendees of the show will get to go hands on with the Good or Evil version of the “Save Kuo” mission. Two allies. Two plans of attack. A choice to follow Zeke’s plan and get the help of the captured police by taking out the convoy guarded by the Militia, then assaulting the Militia compound with the army of cops to free Kuo. Or, side with Nix and her destructive plan to ram a trolley filled with explosives through the front gate. The choice is yours!

Not a fan of the new voice for Cole... I liked the voice they used in the original and not sure why they went away from him.

As promised during GDC 2011, Sucker Punch has delivered the specifics on its beta test of user-generated content creation for InFamous 2. Beginning now and running through March 21, those interested in taking part can sign up at infamousthegame.com (http://www.infamousthegame.com/) to get the chance -- the developer will choose an unspecified number of applicants at random, who will begin receiving beta vouchers in "early April."

Since this is technically a sweepstakes, there are a couple of hoops to jump through at the site -- such as re-registering if you're already signed up there and, er, opting into the contest -- but once that's handled you need only sit back and hope that the Sucker Punchers smile upon you.

The best user-created missions from the beta will be featured as "Sucker Punch Selections" when the game launches on June 7. Check out our UGC preview (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/01/infamous-2-preview/) for more on what to expect in the beta.

Sucker Punch isn't interested in subtlety when it comes to inFamous 2, and you needn't look further than the game's two companion conduits, Kuo and Nix, for that to be apparent. In a preview session earlier today, reps from SP walked me through a mission midway through the game wherein Cole fought alongside both characters during separate points -- and like in the first inFamous, he was eventually faced with choosing one side or the other. Only rather than choosing "good" or "bad," Cole had to choose his favorite lady of the two.

When the rep picked Kuo (the "good" side), Nix's reaction was ... less than savory. She seemingly channeled Mass Effect 2's Jack, going from Cole's partner in crime, to a sniveling, vengeance-filled brat in under 30 seconds. After her tantrum subsided, Cole was blessed with the power of ice, borrowed from Kuo. And that's where the demo ended, unfortunately.

IGN Review: 9.0 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1170808p1.html)

Everything in Infamous 2 is cleverly interconnected. If you neglect side quests, the city will be less safe (making the game more difficult) and you’ll have fewer skills to purchase. Neglecting to collect Blast Shards gives Cole less electricity to work with. Ignoring Dead Drops will keep the story darker and more nebulous. And refusing to work with UGC not only forces you to miss out on easy Trophies but also removes a welcome community feel to Infamous 2 that the original lacked.

Nothing exists in Infamous 2 just because, and that’s something developer Sucker Punch should be commended for. When combined with how well-executed just about everything in the game is, the overall package is one of PlayStation 3’s best and a must-play for fans of the first game. Don’t be deceived by niche subject matter like I was when the original Infamous first came out. This is a rock-solid third-person action game with an incredible story, great characters, meaty gameplay and – above all else – a string that effectively ties everything together.

Just played through the demo and if you enjoyed the first one, you should certainly enjoy this one. Nothing is revolutionary in the gameplay compared to the first but it didn't really need to do anything revolutionary. A few of the quirks are still there, particularly the game trying to figure out which pole/building you're trying to latch onto but it does at least seem improved.

All in all, still very much excited for this.

Disappointed that Amazon hasn't offered a credit deal for this game yet... I'll wait and see if they do anything over the weekend but if not, I'll look at either Kmart ($20 gaming credit (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295648)) or Best Buy ($30 off various Sony games (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296074)). I mucked around in the demo for a good 20 minutes and didn't even do a mission. I spent the entire time throwing cars at people and doing the dive bomb off the one huge ass building. :D

Anyway, pretty much what G said. If you liked the first, you'll love this. If you didn't, you probably wont.

The climbing system seems to be improved a bit, but I never had an issue with the original. I like how your thrusters launches you up a bit before gliding, that's a nice touch. I've read the karma system is still pretty much only going to affect your weapons and abilities, but oh well. It looks very, very good for an open world game and the frame rate is butter smooth. I was able to trigger some really huge explosions involving multiple cars and it didn't stutter once.

I've played it for seven hours so... yeah. If you like the original, you're sure to like this one. It's the same recipe as the first one just with some added ingredients to improve it overall. Some of the new moves are interesting, though nothing too powerful so far. An example, you get the ability to leap higher when leaping from a power source such as a car... the problem is that you only leap about 10 feet or so instead of 3 feet so about the only real use for it is to give you some loft in order to get the power slam off.

Can't wait to start looking for 300+ shards again..
One of the very late abilities says something about being able to find blast shards more easily... something about "the edge of the mini-map" so not sure that it will be THAT helpful but maybe it will find much further distances to at least point you in the right direction.

Sorry about the delay, I didnt really like the limited number of abilities(which contributes more to my 20-30 price range) on the first one, it made the game seem very limited in what I could do. and I didn't really care for the fact that most of the enemies were on top of buildings, actually that just go annoying at times. Other than that I thought it was a solid game.

There are quite a few more abilities in this one, though they're all variations of similar abilities. The nice thing though is that you can swap them on the fly by holding the left on the d-pad and then tapping through which button assignment you want to change. Each have pros & cons so it's a matter of switching them up in certain situations.

As for the enemies, I'd say quite a few more battles take place on the ground. There still are a fair amount of enemies on roof tops but in most of those cases, you can either avoid them or you have to get up to the roof top anyway for your mission. Along those lines, a nice change up in this one is that you can much more easily sneak up on enemies. If they're not facing you, you can get the jump on them.

Just picked up the game yesterday--traded in MLB 11 The Show for it, as I hadn't been playing it enough to justify letting it lose more trade-in value--and I like it so far. The "prologue" mission of the game was cool and cinematic and a good way to bridge the gap between the first game and this sequel. Plays very similar so far to the first game--so, as others have said, if you didn't like inFAMOUS you'll probably dislike the sequel--and I'm continuing my game from my full good clear in the first game (though I also have a full evil clear from my friend playing on my console).

Only problem I've had so far was the first UGC mission I tried; it was the "Disco"-themed Sucker Punch mission, but even though it was made by the developers I got stuck in a "bug" at the end of the mission where I couldn't move Cole and nothing else was happening. Ended up having to abandon the mission. Will have to try it again today--I'm assuming there is a trophy or two tied into playing UGC missions--to see if it works correctly the second time around.

EDIT: As an aside on UGC missions, I was a bit disappointed that the only criteria for "reporting" a level is tied to whether it's offensive or advertising or spam; I'd like to report a level that just plain doesn't work like it's supposed to if that's the case. Didn't see that option when I abandoned the "Disco" level last night.

Yeah, I couldn't complete the Disco UGC mission either... I ran out of propane tanks and couldn't do anything to continue it.

There are four trophies tied to UGC... create a UGC, play 5 "new" UGC missions, play any 10 UGC and finally play any 25 UGC. I played 5 "new" ones and most of them aren't too terrible... basically just kill a bunch of enemies.

The ones from Sucker Punch though are too fancy for their own good... like a Magic Carpet Ride one has you riding on a pallet flying through the air. The problem is that as you're riding, you get attacked and as you fire at enemies, your body is moved around and eventually there's a good chance you'll fall off the pallet and fail the mission.

I forced the "Disco ball" to the church but when I followed it and approached, the game "took over" like a cutscene would happen and then just got stuck with me staring at the "Disco ball" with a bunch of enemies standing around beneath it. Couldn't make Cole do anything, and the game sat like that for a good 3-4 minutes before I decided to just abandon.

Ah; that's not too terrible. Should be four fairly easy trophies to earn.

Just a heads up to anyone that goes trophy hunting in this game... one of the dead drops that you need for the Well inFORMED trophy is not included in any of the guides I could find. The only way I found it was by completing a guide for a different trophy (in spoiler).

To find the last Dead Drop, I had to go through the Back to the Bayou trophy directions and there on the island in the bayou is a dead drop.

Made some solid progress on the game last night; it's going to be a slower process because my wife likes to watch these cinematic games--she's previously watched me play through inFAMOUS and Uncharted 2--but I don't mind that very much. Lets me play through the "side" missions when she's not around--and do the Dead Drop/Blast Shard searching--and then focus more on playing the Story missions when she's around.

Like the game so far; some of the side mission "types" echo mission "types" in the first game, but they're different enough. I'm a fan of how the game handles power progression as well--having you achieve certain amounts of head shots or specific kills to upgrade a power instead of just jumping through the underground like in inFAMOUS--and I like that they didn't arbirtarily take away powers at the start of inFAMOUS 2 and make you go through the process of earning them all over again.

No... I don't think so. The only one I could imagine is one of the UGC trophies says to use the "New" filter to play 5 missions. Assuming "new" is like the 50 most recent then you'd be fine but if it were to use "new" as the past month, then you might be harder pressed.

I officially only have story-based trophies (hard + bad playthrough) plus the UGC trophies in order to platinum this game. Now I might just go back and find that last shard in Infamous 1 to platinum both of them.

Feel like I'm in the home stretch on my first "Hero" playthrough; just collected all of the Blast Shards last night and finished up the Dead Drops this morning. Also have all good karma powers except for one undiscovered in the Ionic category, and all of the side missions have been completed so the entire map is in the white.

My next mission is the one where Bertrand is getting ready to catch a helicopter out of New Marais because I just sunk his cargo ships.

I'm enjoying the game for sure, but there are some little issues I have with it that are bothering me a bit. I'll put them in a general Spoiler tag to avoid ruining parts of the game for anybody who doesn't have it/hasn't played it yet.

This is kind of a bane for all "open world/sandbox" games, but I feel as though the story doesn't get as much love as it should in-between the big set pieces. For example, I love how none of the characters really seem all that surprised the first time you fight the "swamp monsters"; it's just kind of a "Wow, there are those things" blasé reaction and from that point on it's just killing them when you see them; the "reveal" of what the monsters are comes so much later in the game that by that point, you almost don't care because you've been killing them in such a pedestrian manner.
I liked how each of the three islands in inFAMOUS had its own feel in terms of different sets of enemies; by contrast, inFAMOUS 2 feels a bit more "samey" because human enemies are either militia or ice soldiers, and the only variances are the larger versions of them. To me, none of the lower-level enemies have as much character as the enemies in inFAMOUS did. I miss the Reapers, Dustmen, and First Sons.
Really wish there was more guidance when fighting the larger enemies for the first time; this is most especially true when fighting the ice soldier Titans who so easily regenerate themselves. At present--with basically all powers at my disposal and a full storage of electric power--it can take 10-15 minutes for me to kill a single Titan because I run out of energy in the midst of trying to destroy their arms and by the time I find a power source, they've been able to regenerate the limb I took off. I also don't particularly like the use of Titans as "basic" enemies in some of the later side missions; it's a boss-type character, so it is frustrating--and feels cheap--when you're tasked to destroy one and all you get is a section of the map cleared.

Despite all that, I like the story; I'm really looking forward to wrapping up this first playthrough and diving back in on the "inFAMOUS" side of the Karma spectrum.

Some help for you Paakaa
When your fighting the Titans, use the rockets that divert to the weakspot, like divert rockets or something, forget what they were called. Also the last nades you can by that cluster work good. When your evil use the hellfire rockets they will rip through them

Yeah, that was my tactic for taking them out; still had a bunch of trouble doing it. I imagine on the inFAMOUS side of the karma track the game gets a bit easier using fire powers against the ice soldiers.

Finished up my "Hero" playthrough last night. Felt that it was a solid conclusion to the game, and I was surprised a bit based on what my expectations were going into the endgame.

Rest of my thoughts in Spoiler tags...

Things I liked...

Having achieved the "Hero" ending and read up on the "inFAMOUS" ending, I'm glad that I went with the good karma track and will actually find myself somewhat pressed to play a full evil playthrough. Even though the game gets criticized for being a little too black and white in its karmic choices, I found much more nuance to the choices in the sequel compared to the first game. I also have found a surprising attachment to Cole as a character--despite some reviewers criticizing him as a stereotype or blank character--and that connection stems more from his good side than the "alternate universe" version of him that sucks life from citizens and kills everyone wantonly.
In the last third of the game or so--basically as soon as you realize that Zeke has the plague since he's coughing every line of dialogue--my expectation was that he would die or come near-death in the closing moments of the game. I'm glad that the people at Sucker Punch wrote the final karmic decision the way that they did. The "karmic switch" between Kuo and Nix made solid sense to me and--as somebody with a good-Cole-centric view--I couldn't imagine doing anything but taking down The Beast even knowing the consequences to Cole.
I also like how Sucker Punch involves the player in some of the major actions of the game across the two titles; in the first inFAMOUS, you as the player basically cause the Ray Sphere to detonate by pressing start at the title screen. Nothing bad happens in Empire City until you decide to begin the game; always thought that was clever. And, of course, the switch out of the cutscene at the end to set off the RFI in inFAMOUS 2 was another great example of putting that control in the player's hands to make that decision.

Things I disliked...

After finishing the game, it's clear to me that more principal characters would have helped liven up the narrative; it also would have diversified the enemy types and made for some more logical "boss battles." I thought Bertrand as a character was written okay, but he ended up running the show in terms of being the antagonist; in a game where everything pointed to The Beast as the major problem, it didn't really ring true to me to have some other character receive the brunt of the attention in terms of who Cole and co. were fighting against.
It was great to see John White back from inFAMOUS and surprising to see him as The Beast; there just wasn't enough--unfortunately--from him to make him truly compelling. He shows up, looks cool, gives his spiel, and that's it; aside from a few moments where he telepathically contacts Cole, he fades away. I don't know if the game was rushed for any reason late in production, but it definitely feels as though more story missions could've involved him to at least make the final decision more difficult to consider. Even if I had been on an "inFAMOUS" playthrough, I still would've had questions about siding that way in the last decision.
Speaking of The Beast, the initial story fight against him in Empire City was a cool way to start the game and demonstrate that Cole would need significantly more power in order to win the battle. Unfortunately no other interaction with The Beast lives up to it; the thermonuclear missile deal is too far removed from The Beast to provide a connection, and the final battle happens so quickly and has such limited strategic planning involved that it's kind of trial-and-error and then endgame. From a gameplay perspective, the promise of confronting and fighting The Beast came up short.

For future consideration...
Based on how the endings play out on each side of the karmic spectrum, it's going to take either miraculous happenings or a severe "retcon" for me to see a third game being made. I know that the lightning which strikes the boat at the end of the good ending forms a question mark and is supposed to make the player believe that it may have brought Cole back to life, but even if it did so I'm not sure I can see how that sets the stage for another game. In that version of the story, everybody on the planet is human and all the conduits are gone; hard to see A) whether Cole would be human or conduit and B) what he would do in that new world regardless.

And if a theoretical inFAMOUS 3 started off with the bad karma ending being the reality and all humans dead, only conduits remaining? Well, it wouldn't feel like an inFAMOUS game to me, because that Cole would be so far removed from my conceptualization of him after playing through the first two games. I guess a compelling game could be made out of conduits with many different powers fighting each other across the planet, but the only way I would feel invested in such a game would be if Cole felt remorse for what had happened and sought to avenge the deaths of Zeke and the rest of humanity by clearing his evil doing. Even then, it would be an empty game for me.

From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/15/infamous-2-and-festival-of-blood-getting-move-support/):

Sony revealed that Move support will be added to both Infamous 2 and Infamous 2: Festival of Blood. The $14.99 Festival of Blood will include built-in support for the glowy controller, and will also include the update for Infamous 2 when it launches on October 25.

InFAMOUS 2 Complete Edition
Cole MacGrath returns in SuckerPunch’s action adventure hit. Help save New Marais from the Beast, and itself.
$33.99 ($23.79 for PlayStation Plus Members!)

Not sure, but here is what Wiki has in regards to DLC for inFamous 2:

DLC includes the 24k Gold Amp, a Kessler skin, the Lightning Hook power, and the Electrocution Grenade power. Also, two skins are available, including a Kessler and the Infamous jacket from the previous installment. Another DLC pack has been released featuring a Reaper skin from the first game and three alternative models for the Amp including Sly Cooper's cane, a samurai sword and a caveman club.

The Hero Edition from Amazon came with all of the DLC except for the Stalker Grenades and the Sniper Blast powers and the three extra Subway Missions, which are now all available via the PlayStation Store.

It might include Festival of Blood. That's the only real incentive to that price point, IMO. Though since I already have it (was it free for PS Plus? I seem to think so), that's no incentive for me either way.

Though I would think that, if it included Festival of Blood, then Sony's blog entry about it (which is what I quoted) would say so.

Here's the tons better description from the Store itself:
"Includes the full game of inFAMOUS 2 plus the Bonus Sucker Punch Mini-Missions, Player Skin Bundle, Powers Pack and Weapons Pack"

Those four add-ons would run you $9 right now.
