On Wednesday, IGN hosted a LiveStream event with the NCAA Football 12 developer Ben Haumiller. The LiveStream event provided the community with their first in-depth look at gameplay and presentation improvements. Also stated were that Dynasty and Road to Glory improvements will be made at a future date.

Watch the show here at The Gaming Tailgate and then share your thoughts with the community.

Update: Thanks to xMrHitStickx904 for capturing the footage of today's streaming event to give us a sample of the full thing. IGN has now updated their Youtube page to include the live stream in three parts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsJ89oNLBrI

Part 1

IGN Editors Peter Eykemans and Greg Miller are joined by Producer Ben Haumiller
First game features Florida State to show off new team entrance (Renegade & Osceola) and gamplay improvements
New opening featuring ESPN wipes, rival team entering field, and players warming up are shown
Some of the approximately 30 new team traditions (entrance, touch tradition, etc.) include Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Wake Forest.
New in-game sponsors include Nike SPARQ, Lowe's, and from last year Coke Zero.
The first game played featured Florida (CPU) at Florida State (Haumiller). The new field art changes for Florida State are visible as well as the updated playcall screen (three button playcall selection). Florida (CPU) won the coin toss and elected to Kick. (Typically, CPU teams almost always elect to Receive.)
What is the most difficult part of maintaining a yearly franchise? 'Making it fresh, making it new, making it something that you feel you need to go out and buy the new version of it...'
What goes behind the research to figure out what these teams are doing? People know the obvious ones such as USC's Tommy Trojan, but there are some we work with schools - such as Tennessee's "T" touch sign. Most UT fans do not know it exists. 'Message boards and forums are a great resource. They'll tell you what you did right and they'll tell you what you did wrong, too.'
Miller asks if Missouri commentary bug (mispronunciation of 'Faurot' Field) has been fixed. Neither confirmed nor denied by Haumiller - likely something not in his area of development focus.
Miller then highlights the 3D grass, very visible during replays. Haumiller: The art team mantra was to "touch every pixel." Grass and turf pellets can be kicked up, also added are new gear, dreadlocks, and 3D crowds.
Eykemans: "What other engine and graphical elements were pumped up this year?" Lighting-wise, the new addition is HDR Lighting.
What new improvements have been made to Road to Glory, Dynasty Mode, and online modes? 'Those are things we have not announced yet, so look for Dynasty later this month, Road to Glory around E3, and along that same timeframe will be our online announcements there as well.'
Haumiller shows off the new X-button (Square on PS3) feature to allow users to initiate a wrap tackle.
On PAT attempt, we now see that the sponsor on the field goal nets is Allstate Insurance.
Haumiller then discusses the Enhanced Tackling & Collision System, where the tackle does not occur until the point of impact to help eliminate 'suction.'

Part 2

[I]How does a players Awareness [rating] factor into zone coverage? 'Awareness does have a factor into it, but it's really more about Zone Coverage rating, that's the big key. We added a lot of different ratings over the last couple years to break it down so Awareness isn't the one rating that held the keys to all the different parts of the game. You have that Zone Coverage rating which will factor in a lot to how that zone coverage is played which is a big upgrade for us this year. We did a lot of work to zone coverage to really improve how that's run in the game.'
What other improvements were made defensively, aside from the zone coverages? Zone coverage defense, tackle animations, tackle changes and collision system were the big ones. Also some updates to man coverage (defenders more realistic), new plays (4-2-5 specifically with huge upgrade).
Any range or date on when the demo may be out? Demo is in process of going through certification. Just received word from Microsoft.
New quarter break shown. Will feature highlights of game as well as vignettes of players, coaches, etc.
How are entrances different an neutral sites versus home games? Neutral site entrances will be more generic (no Ralphie for CU-CSU), update to bowl presentation (US Flag on field for BCS Games).
Next game: Oklahoma State (Haumiller) at Missouri (Miller). Picked to show off conference wipes.
Does CPU QB actually scramble this time and can you block kicks? QB will scramble more in appropriate situations this year. Blocked kicks are tough as you don't want to
Haumiller and Miller discuss commentator Brad Nessler and his ability to deliver lines consistently. Haumiller announced that this year's intro video will be more ambitious than last years.
How often do you update rosters before game is released? Yearly update. Updated for team style, not individuals. Full-time gig for roster creator.
What is the potential of the game given the NFL (lock-out) situation? With the NFL and their situation, you're seeing more of a push for college football in the real world. College football will be on the forefront and we want to be on the front lines with them.
Any chance of NCAA Football in Europe? Maybe down the line....we get more demand for that each year than you would expect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ2XLEYnQUI

Part 3

Haumiller also discusses using the X button (Square) to perform a user-controlled Dive catch attempt.
Will there be multiple deadlock length and player faces? There is the one dreadlock length, we will get to more in the future.
Have pass trajectories receoved any changes? With other game changes, we did have to change pass trajectory. You will be able to lead receivers more.
Is the gameplay faster? It is the same speed as last year, but users have the option to customize game speed.
Is weather constant throughout the game or will it change? TWC feed still exists, but during the course of the game there is not dynamic weather.
Viewer recommend Mills not drop back so far when passing the ball. Miller counters with his admiration of Brad Smith
Any new playable camera angles? They have some news in this regard and it will be announced later on.
Any specific crowd color games? (EX: White Out at Penn State, Gold Rush at Mizzou) Not in this year, but look for it in the future.
Any changes to playbooks? A lot of research goes into each playbook, based upon coaches and coaching changes made at each school.
How does the pass rush feel? In the past it seemed lacking. Miller said it was not as much as he would like. Haumiller commented that with the new Collision system, offensive linemen will no longer 'slide' to get into place, which should allow for users to generate more of a pass rush.
Any new ratings or sliders this year? None added this year.
Are roster sizes the same this year? With 120 school and 70 players, there are current limitations with roster size and file. They are looking into it for the future.
Miller commented that he is excited and looking forward to the point where he can talk about currently undisclosed features.

"You have now entered a place where Mr. Cross resides to live a life of strategic mystery by himself so no one can question his ultimate authority. It is a place where he himself is judge, and only he will be forever known as a prisoner of freedom to the replay of his own anonymity. It is a place where time stands still, applying no boundaries or limits because it is always saving daylight for the one man who can understand it. You have now entered: The Twilight Zone!"

No, it's 3:30 PST (Pacific Standard Time) meaning that it's 6:30 EST (Eastern Standard Time). Screw that EDT crap. It's still 3 hours difference between PST and EDT so why have a different name for the time variance for the exact same time variance?

LOL I'll never forget my 1st and only trip to Arizona. I was flying on business and I fell asleep on the plane (Free 1st class upgrade FTW!). Over/Under Points Scored?

Who wins?

How much "cheese" (like dropping back 25+ yards and running around like a chicken with its head cut off for a QB etc...) do we see from IGN boy?

How many INTs does IGN guy throw b/c he cannot read a zone defense?

Gameplay pretty much looks the same as last year, with the lone exception of zone coverage. Line interactions are horrible. There are way too many times on passing plays where multiple defensive linemen end up on the ground. Defensive pursuit against the run doesn't look any better at all either.

Pretty much looks like NCAA 11.2 (which is essentially the same thing as NCAA 10.3).

QBs also look like their dead point accuracy has been toned down. That's about the 3rd or 4th overthrown ball I've seen, and all of them were when he didn't set the QB's feet. I LOVE that. Hopefully it does work like that. That would instantly cut down on 25% of the garbage people pull online.

Defensive pursuit against the run doesn't look any better at all either.

I have to disagree with you there. There was a toss play where the defenders were all covered up by blockers, which would've been a 20+ yard gain on '11, but the defenders fought off the block and held it to 4 or 5. That was the only instance I saw of it, so while it does look better, it's impossible to judge based on one play.

Well didn't learn much b/c of East Roomer/IGN guy but I'd say the game has SLIGHTLY IMPROVED from last year (gameplay wise) mostly due to zone coverage. However, I am not convinced that even those improvements are going to slow guys down all that much. The pass rush still SUCKED so if you have all day eventually the zone will break down.

It's not really about how effective the play is. The front 7 still has no concept of gap containment or run responsibilities.

i'm in between you guys but i'm currently leaning more towards rhombic. i didn't see a HUGE leap gameplay wise. to me it looks/sounds like a slight improvement via zone AI which basically means NCAA 11.5 (in terms of gameplay).

I agree. Especially with the flexbone toss. Defenders, either the DE or OLB would jump out and always dodge his block. I've always had a beef with Gap containment and Run Responsibilities though.

I had a huge problem with big formation tosses in the 3 weeks that I played it. They'd run the same stupid 4 plays over and over, toss, stretch, counter, triple option. Needless to say, I got bored with it fairly quickly. Fingers crossed that garbage doesn't work nearly as well with '12.

I'm not saying a saw a huge leap either. I'm just saying, on that one particular toss, it looked like the defense recognized it much better and pursued to the ball. Zone defense also looks improved, as does how inaccurate the QB seemed whenever the player did not set their feet. However, like I said, it's impossible to judge based on what we saw. The running in general looked much improved and the shotgun blocking seemed to be a step as well. Read option seemed to run more fluidly. I also really liked the way the collision and hits took some momentum and player size into account in that video. I did notice some slight warping on WR's and some OL sliding a tad bit into defenders to initiate blocks, but not as bad as NCAA football 11. Oh, and I like how he mentioned that the ball trajectory was touched up some too. Too many times I would see a super LB jump up and knock a pass down that I was throwing to a WR 15 yards down field. Which also brings me to mention that I did not see any super LB's jumping up and knocking passes down.

Also the general concensus in the community (meaning multiple sites) is that the animation is wrong and that it should be different levels, like they did with the diving catches.

I think you're really underestimating what consecutive-hit tackling will bring to the gameplay. That is going to be a huge improvement. To actually be able to swarm the ball carrier and be rewarded for rallying to the ball is going to make defense feel like night and day by comparison. New zone AI is big too (as long as it functions realistically).

But you're probably right, people that didn't like 11 probably won't find enough here to pick it up. I'm right on the fence here. I didn't by any means "hate" 11, but I wasn't exactly thrilled with it either. The demo will be huge for me. I want to "feel" the gameplay before I decide anything; however, with these two improvements (and supposed improvements to the pass trajectories) I'll leaning toward a purchase.

I'll know more after next week, but I don't think it's an exploit (if it is, it'll be tuned). I play exclusively on the DL and a portion of my April feedback consisted of HUM DL moves being too powerful. The bull rush wasn't an issue at that time.

No new ratings AND sliders

Are you serious? No new sliders for fumbles, injuries or stamina despite the fact Madden has had it for at least two years now? I'll say it one more time - if the dev team doesn't split the pass coverage slider between man and zone coverage they will deserve 100% of the blame if people bitch about zone defence being overdone.

I could only watch while he was playing as FSU then had to leave. I think I saw Ben slip to the ground rushing the passer. There might be new interactions there but the entire time I was pretty much focused on watching the ball carrier move. I think there is even less player momentum this year which really disappoints me. It's not even close to realistic imo. Players change directions far too easily and accelerate like jack rabbits out of cuts. The foot sliding makes it look worse as they don't plant their feet properly and just slide around. I wish so much we could get more realistic player momentum. I will forever miss the way the PS2 players moved compared to the way these guys have implemented it on the PS3.

There is a huge difference between the player movement. It's something I felt from actually playing the game. You don't have to watch videos to see it. When my brother got a 360 and I went over to his place to play NCAA 07 at the time (I had the PS2 version). I was thinking of upgrading systems. While there are a lot of other differences the first thing that stood out to me was the lack of player momentum. It was super twitchy as change of direction was too easy. It also made playing pass defence incredibly hard imo. Of course for the guys (like most of the devs) that just play as a DL they don't care. But for some of us that like to play LB or S, the lack of player momentum really hurts your ability to cover guys as offensive players cut and are at full speed in less than a second. I really disliked it and waited another year before buying a new system.

Obviously some people are going to like the new way better but there is no way they are the same.

Precisely. You couldn't just jam on the left stick and jerk over 5 yards at full speed. The players aren't stiff enough. I've made my point and don't want to de-rail this thread anymore but I need to get that off my chest. I don't like the player movement at all and changing that would really give the game a different feel. I'll have to wait for the demo to see how I really feel with some of these other changes.

My stick skills aren't the best lol. I enjoyed NCAA 11 and the improved zone defence (if not overdone), toned down suction blocking, improved play action, custom playbooks and boosted defensive playbooks should be nice. But there are some core things where the dev team sees things differently than I do.

Another big one is in game saves. I would pay $25 for that as a DLC if I could! I have to say the majority of games I have played on MLB 2K11 I have used the in game save feature. Absolutely love it for early morning gaming.

I've watched this by pausing it on Youtube actually which worked and allowed me to go back to watch the same video from the 22 minutes in which gave me 27 minutes of viewing time.

First take is that the zone coverage looks extremely improved, heck some of the guys that aren't on this site that I play with will be able to tell the difference.

Second thing I really really like it the collision and tackling animations. Just a nice breathe of fresh air to see them in place. Something that will surely add to the defensive side of the ball. Nothing better the making a big play while playing D.

I'm going to have to rewatch it again before I make to many other comments but the scrambling while throwing did appear to have an effect on throwing accuracy. I will admit though I'm not entirely familiar with the Mizzou QB nor his abilities which obvisouly have an impact as well.

I want to watch the battle in the trenches, I noticed that Rhombic mentions that the DLine was falling down to much. No comment from me till I watch that the whole way through again (and again and again and again) Hahahaha.

quick opinion about the gameplay now that i've watched it a bit. I always thought that NCAA 12 didn't need to change too much about the gameplay, just tweak, and polish necessary areas. I've made peace that OL/DL interactions, now matter what sliders, ratings etc. we have, it's not going to be what we want it to be on these consoles. The majority of the ratings we do have, don't mean anything, so don't add more meaningless ratings imo. Defense, running animations look great to me. Can't really judge until we play the demo, but from the video, that's what it looks like to me.

I don't remember who but I remember someone posting about the DLine falling down to often. I rewatched the first video and got the following:

There were 14 offensive snaps total in that quarter. 9 Passes and 5 runs.

There were 6 defensive guys that ended up on the ground. In 2 of those that guy was double teamed. In 1 of those it was user controlled by Ben and it appeared to me like he was trying a move and did it to soon.

I don't think that is any concern atleast from me as there are often many times a Dlineman or Olineman on the ground after the play and that doesn't seem far fetched by any means.

Play 2 of that first video I enjoyed watching a few times. Appeared to be Cover 2 Man and that hole was there and shut very quickly by the CPU.

I am a big fan of the way the ball carriers move, in every aspect EXCEPT left stick cutting right to left to right etc. The planting in these instances is not accounted for. If there were some way to tweak and slow down whatever rating and/or animation encompasses this change of direction movement, it would be GOLDEN in terms of momentum. It's clear that not every player has the same speed during cod, but EVERYONE needs to be slowed down just a bit in ONLY this way. Other than that, the game plays at a great pace up the field and tackles happen very fluidly.

I'll need to see a lot more to tell how defensive movement is going to play out. I'm interested in the cd info return.

Yeah it would be awesome if the CD guys were able to record a whole game for upload on here. I doubt EA would allow them to show it until around E3 time when the actual in-game videos usually start showing up online. To be honest though that would be ok with me since I can get a better judge of gameplay in NCAA 12 when I watch actual sim style football than what we see in videos like these today.

IMO, there should have been two guys from EA... one to play the game (opposite whomever), and one to answer questions while they play the game. They could have gotten through quite a few more questions had they not had the distraction of playing the game at the same time.

Things I noticed....

-While the blocking of the pulling linemen looks improved, the blocking of anybody lined up off the line is still pretty bad. If you look atthe first play Ben called in the FSU game Ace F Pair Twins, the second TE doesnt try to block the invert and gets in the way of the first TE's block of the invert. Play still went for positve yards.

-Loving the DE pass rush angles.

- New formation from florida looks interesting I wonder if its a glitch or a actual formation though

Well no audio needed xMrHitStickx904 for the part when they go to load the HUM vs HUM game the onscreen info displays something about Online Dynasty so at least we can get some info on that.

I used the sim function alot especially when I was playing with TCU and played crappy teams 7 games out of the year.

I have never had a game get that high when using the sim I did hit the 80's a couple of times though so I guess it is possible, if anything they should have it were my players cannot get hurt using the sim function that pisses me off more than anything.

from the way that reads about super sim is that you can now call the plays? and the play itself is sim'd... dont know if they can answer that question but that seems to be the translation i am getting from that... we can already "super sim" but that says "call your games" which i am taking as call your plays, more of a "coach" setup... which is cool if thats the case

Well, when players can still cut on a dime without losing an ounce of speed, yes that worries me.

Also, there was little to no pressure through the course of both games. The CPU QB awareness scared me as well, they boasted about the CPU now scrambles, but the QB would sit in the pocket for 5-6 seconds with everyone blanketed and made no attempt to roll out/scramble.

Question out to the group... I edited the video to only show gameplay footage and show it at 1/4 speed. I started the upload for it but apparently my computer decided it wanted to do an update for Windows overnight so neither of the videos finished uploading.

All that said, would you watch those videos? There are two videos (one for each game) and they're approximately 9 minutes long so to upload them will take about 2.5 hours each. Let me know any thoughts.

With IGN's higher-quality videos, I'd say I'm good without the edited videos personally. I'd be more interested to see whether or not people can capture decent-quality footage of the EA livestream tomorrow since I don't know how that archiving works.

I think the big issues about the recruiting online was that users would often times be a little to impatient and click on their choice a second time which would cause the calls to fail.

I recruited a very high percentage of my (at one point) 5 online dynasties on the web and had no issues. The biggest issue was if we had to restart the dynasty and we couldn't recruit from the web till we started a new season but that I can understand.

I will watch them for sure...

Am I the only one that thought the rush was good? I feel like there was a good amount of pressure. Some plays had no pressure but others had a guy breaking thru as the pass was thrown. There is not necessarily pressure in real football on every play. I think I saw 1 sack in 2 qtrs played. ...not bad.

See, the first and only time I did it, it screwed up and I wasn't impatient or anything. It just totally screwed up at the end of the call after I had spent all my time and then didn't register anything on the guy at all. It was a total waste of time and I vowed never to do my recruiting online again and never have. Maybe it just doesn't like Firefox and if that's the case, then EA can shove it up their collective asses then because I refuse to have to use anything that requires me to use a certain browser.

I don't know, I was told after the mental clock of 3 seconds elapsed. You either, roll out, scramble, look for a check down, throw it away. Not stand there for 7 Mississippi.
