No. What's sad is that you know it is associated with something in particular. Stargate is some sort of Star Trek, I presume? Lol.

Historically accurate. We beat all the old Big 8 opponents except for our one nemesis in Oklahoma after getting a lead. And the season wouldn't be complete without some Sooner magic, this time provided by Texass and a meltdown in the bowl game. It was like Dr. Tom was leading us again!

If memory serves, Nebraska is about 59% vs Big 10 schools all-time. So, maybe "historically accurate" will ring true again. :P

I haven't been following the story of the Buckeyes all that closely but it seems to me that this is the type of thing that would cost just about ANY coach his job.

I really cannot see the red sweater vest lasting any longer than 1 more season while the investigation continues. I am sure it will lead to a HUGE distraction and if THE Ohio St. stumbles he will get the ax like Pearl did as soon as the season ends.

And he's out for five of the next games of that possible one season left....makes no sense to keep him for 2011.

The ONLY reason why it makes sense is at this point who could you get to be the Coach this late in the process. If I were AD I'd be thinking of who we could get and right at the start of the Coaching Hiring/Firing process boom sweater vest = gone and I'd go right after the hottest guy in coaching.

Ohio St. is a big time job and is certainly a Top 10 coaching gig so most coaches would be VERY interested. Perhaps Myer could be lured out of those "health issues"?

If there was a team who could do it, I think Ohio State could. Meyer, being a "local boy" born in Toledo, played at Cincinnati, got his coaching start at Ohio State coaching Tight Ends then Wide Receivers for two years, got his first head coaching gig at Bowling Green. So he has a ton of ties to the state of Ohio and Ohio State being one of the premier coaching jobs in college football (even with all these allegations, investigations and issues going on), I could see the Buckeyes managing to offer him enough to lure him off of TV and back to the sidelines.

Heard on sports talk radio this morning that a report indicates 50+ cars came from that car dealership to players/players' families. I'm sorry but I don't see how sweater vest survives past this season. ESPECIALLY with the NCAA wanting to get tough I imagine Ohio St. won't have a choice unless they want the death penalty.

Heard on sports talk radio this morning that a report indicates 50+ cars came from that car dealership to players/players' families. The story started to unravel this afternoon. People are seeing a fire, and it's looking increasingly like there may not even be smoke. By this afternoon, Sirius's college football show was suggesting that the only problem may be that the dealership themselves may have been breaking the law -- not NCAA violations.

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2011/05/11/older-title-shows-player-paid-13700-for-his-car.html?sid=101

BMV records show that former linebacker Thaddeus Gibson paid $13,700 for a 2007 Chrysler 300C that he bought from former Jack Maxton salesman Aaron Kniffin in June 2007.

The Dispatch reported last week that the title to Gibson's car listed the purchase price as zero. Jack Maxton owner Jeff Mauk said he couldn't explain the reason.

But a prior title on the vehicle obtained by The Dispatch yesterday shows that the car with 13,760 miles was purchased on June 27, 2007, and financed through Huntington National Bank. The title without a purchase price was issued on March 6, 2008, with Huntington still listed as the lender.

Gibson said last week that he still is making payments on the car.

The Dispatch found that eight athletes and several athletes' relatives had purchased used cars from the same salesman when he worked at two different dealerships.

Seems like a favorable price there, Jeff. A car with 13,700 miles on it for......$13,700? In the same model year as it was bought?
When, if you pull up values on cars today from 2010 to 2011 with that kind of mileage, there is no price that is that low comparatively. Perhaps the market has changed naturally, as well as prices have adjusted in 4 years, but we're talking an additional $5k average at least for cars with the same mileage.
http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/overview?distance=any&sortcol=price&sortdir=up&modelyearlb=2010&modelyearub=2011&make=chrysler&model=300&askpricelb=any&askpriceub=any&deliverymileagelb=10000&deliverymileageub=25000&listingtype=used&start=91

The only price even close.....cars with like 60,000+ miles on them:
http://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchresults.action?stkTyp=U&tracktype=usedcc&mkId=20008&AmbMkId=20008&AmbMkNm=Chrysler&AmbMdNm=300C&mdId=20394&rd=30&zc=78641&searchSource=QUICK_FORM&enableSeo=1

And regardless of the cars, your coach lied. Twice.

JeffHCross

Seems like a favorable price there, Jeff.I don't disagree about favorable. But still a far cry from what people were thinking when the original title said $0.

And regardless of the cars, your coach lied. Twice.Don't disagree with that either. The only thing I disputed in CLW's post was about the 50+ cars. I don't think Tressel will be the coach of the Buckeyes in 2012, at the least, and I'm not even sure about 2011. Personally, I would have been okay with his firing when all of this came to light in January.

psusnoop

The Buckeyes even if they fired JT, would find a big name coach immediately. There are many many out there that would jump at the chance to the HC at OSU.

JeffHCross
05-12-2011, 09:24 PM
True, but I'm hoping that we effectively treat Weeks 1 - 5 as an interview for Coach Fickell. Other than him, Coach Pagac (current DC at the Vikings) would be my top choice. I'm hoping we hire from within the family rather than just picking a big name.

This is going to end VERY BADLY for Sweater Vest and THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

Former Ohio State (http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/194/ohio-state-buckeyes) wide receiver Ray Small told the school's student newspaper that he sold Big Ten championship rings and other memorabilia for cash and got special car deals as an athlete during his playing days.

The Lantern reported that Small, who played for the Buckeyes from 2006 to 2010, said "everyone was doing it" on the team.

****

He said the biggest advantages came from car dealerships.
"It was definitely the deals on the cars. I don't see why it's a big deal," said Small.

****

"They have a lot (of dirt) on everybody," Small said, "cause everybody was doing it."

****

"They explain the rules to you, but as a kid you're not really listening to all of them rules," Small said. "You go out and you just, people show you so much love, you don't even think about the rules. You're just like, 'Ah man, it's cool.' You take it, and next thing you know the NCAA is down your back."

****

Former Buckeyes basketball player Mark Titus wrote Tuesday on his blog that the perks within the football program are far from a secret.

"Any OSU student in the past five years could tell you that a lot of the football players drive nice cars," Titus wrote. "You'd have to be blind to not notice it."

Small said there was no shortage of people trying to help Ohio State athletes.

"Everywhere you go, while you're in the process of playing at Ohio State," Small said, "you're going to get a deal every which way."

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6592185

IF true (more likely than not it is) there is 0% chance Sweater Vest keeps his job and a 0% chance THE Ohio State University doesn't get a big NCAA BAN Hammer as the "lack of institutional control" is just screaming to be layed down here.

IF all of these car discounts etc.... above are true I'd personally be in favor of the Death Penalty against Ohio St.'s football program for X number of years. This GARBAGE has got to stop.
