We'll have a new one each month, open for all to give feedback.

If we missed something in the previous month's thread, post again here. Feedback can be anything, ranging from smilies to new content idea, etc. Feel free to PM if you don't want to post an idea publicly.

Planning to buy any video games from Amazon? Support The Gaming Tailgate by using our referral link:

Amazon Video Games (http://www.amazon.com/b?_encoding=UTF8&site-redirect=&node=468642&tag=thegamtai-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325")

Anything you buy while using that link will contribute a percentage to the site while costing you nothing additional whatsoever. All proceeds will go directly to the site for server costs, prizes, etc. I'll post this in the general video game section as well but wanted to post it here to announce that we've added this. ANYTHING you buy from Amazon can qualify, but at this point in time, let us know what product categories you make regular purchases from and we can provide a link. Otherwise, for any significant purchases, you can alway sjust PM cdj or gschwendt and we can provide a direct link. Let us know any feedback.

morsdraconis
04-10-2011, 11:50 PM
Can you purchase from their vendors (aka used stuff) and it still apply?

Off the top of my head, linking to the books, music, and movies sections would probably be beneficial as well.

Thoughts on adding a direct link to the front page of the website or anything like that instead of it being buried in the forums section?

But yeah we plan to add an ad banner link or something similar on the home page. Just wanting to make sure we get some feedback on it before we proceed.

morsdraconis
04-11-2011, 12:11 AM
I'd just add a link to a forum post with links to all the different categories on Amazon (and anywhere else) as one of the buttons at the top (next to the stuff about NCAA 12, etc).

A banner isn't a good idea (for me anyway, cause I use the firefox adblock plus addon that'll probably just block it). I think something less intrusive would be a better way to go. Plus, banner ads just add to the server load by having to load a picture over and over again.

No, we looked at it, but the particular one you linked to isn't necessarily VB4 compatible and the developer appears to have abandoned it. I didn't really look for a suitable replacement but if you find one, feel free to pass it our way and we'll give it a once-over. As I mentioned to cdj, I've been addicted to Tetris lately (really no clue why), so I wouldn't mind showing my dominance in yet another thing that this board has a competition* in.

*trophies, online dynasties, Tiger Woods and pickems of any sort do not count towards competition

We'll be updating to a new version sometime soon... we're trying to hold out until WYSIWYG for Chrome is released which is supposed to be in the next version.

ram29jackson
04-21-2011, 11:36 PM
is there a way to eliminate multi quotes once you click away from a page as opposed to it still being there till you get rid of it manually?

JeffHCross
04-26-2011, 10:32 PM
Two part question ...

When I quote another post --

We'll be updating to a new version sometime soon...
There are two links to that post in the Quote box. One is the http://www.thegamingtailgate.com/forums/images/misc/quote_icon.png and one is http://www.thegamingtailgate.com/forums/images/buttons/viewpost-right.png. Clicking on either of these, when I'm browsing in Chrome, will open a new tab of the image, and go to the quoted posted in my initial tab.

So here are the questions ... is this only Chrome behavior, or does it happen to everyone? And can this be fixed?

EDIT: Seems like when I mouse over the images I get a "Click to enlarge" tooltip, like they're images that are re-sized in the post. Now that's weird, and that suggests it's something royally screwed in the Quote style itself, not something we did.

Yeah... it's a plug-in that we have on the board that is designed to resize large images and force you to click on them to view them full size. Unfortunately it doesn't do it with just large images, it also does it with any image (like the two you pointed out). I want to find a different/better one but just haven't made the time... plus may just hold off until we update vBulletin itself since this is the first complaint that I'm aware of.

JeffHCross
04-26-2011, 11:13 PM
Interesting. You would think that plug-in would have a minimum to resize.

Actually ...
If you hit Edit Post ... then hit Edit Post again, you can get to the Advanced screen. I must've done it accidentally a couple days ago, 'cause I just did it again. And I know it was the Advanced screen because it shows a different interface for deleting a post, which is when I first noticed I could delete a post.

FWIW, you can actually edit posts that way too. They save under that method. Though apparently I'm not getting an "Edited by" message, so I can't really prove it.

EDIT: Though getting Smooth to quote you in mid-edit apparently works.

I believe I now have the Edit capability working properly. To fix it, I had to recreate the Bullish skin (now called Bullish v2). I deleted the original Bullish skin and set the v2 to the default which should set everyone to that as well.

If you're still having problems editing, first make sure that you're on Bullish v2 (look at the bottom of the page) and if it still doesn't work, let me know.

The very bottom bar, where it says

Contact Us The Gaming Tailgate Archive Top

On the left side of that bar, there is usually a drop down menu to select what skin you want to use if you want something other than the default. However, it's not there at the moment, so settings or something got changed somewhere that is disabling it from showing up.

Just for the record, I don't see the option anymore to change the skin at the bottom of the page, if one wanted to switched from Bullish v2 to something else.
Hmmm... interesting. I assume that since I don't have any other skins available as selection for users, it hides that. I'll enable the "Default" skin for now (which also should work properly).

It's there now. I guess that is it does. If there isn't multiple skins to choose from, it automatically will hide it, at least that's what appears to be the case.

I don't know if this is known, but if you select the Default skin, it doesn't have the normal header at the top. It just says vBulletin.

That's interesting. Usually the forum installation replaces the header with an image of your choice. I guess it quite literally means "Default" in this case.

Well, for the Default, to ensure that it worked properly I actually had to have the software create a fresh skin from scratch (no customizations to ensure nothing was broken). It obviously did so using just the vBulletin logo. Making the default as a selection is 100% temporary. In fact, I'm working on a Bullish v2 Fixed width style and once it's complete, I'll hide the default.
