We're only weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting! With that said here are my division picks early on:

AL East - Boston
AL Central - Minnestoa
AL West - Texas
NL East - Atlanta
NL Central - Milwaukee
NL West - Colorado

At least I can count on the Pirates to keep my Astros out of the cellar. :(

Cubs fan. :(

LOL I know this summer will be the first time I've lived in a city with a "bad" baseball team. Having lived in St. Louis when they won the world series  and one of Boston's world series titles  it will be interesting to see IF I can just on a whim walk to the park and buy a ticket.

steeler i haven't been to the "new" park in houston. i caught a few games in the old Astrodome when my aunt/uncle lived near Beaumont. #1 is it "safe" or should i pack heat (like you need to in st. louis) #2 how easy is it to get tickets

It's safe (not as safe feeling as the Astrodome complex was, of course, but that multi-purpose shithole was a dinosaur), and you can walk up and get tix anytime nowadays. It's a nice ballpark too. It's just too bad the Astros are so bad.

what are you talking about? the ballpark in st louis isnt in a bad area at all. if you worried about walking around down there before, during or after a baseball game you have some issues. i go to about 10-15 Cards games a year and at least half of those is just me and my boys (7 and 11) and ive never had an issue or ever worried about our safety

maybe its changed in the last 4 years.

i lived in st. louis (including 5 blocks from the park) from 2002-2007. i had 2 friends that were mugged/robbed at gunpoint in the area after a game. i was also frequently hit up by no telling how many homeless people looking for cash. LMAO one guy had even fallen asleep underneath my SUV and i had to call the police to wake him up so i could leave after a game.

I figured this season the Rays would finish 3rd, but now I'm wondering if they won't go from first to worst. I knew Baltimore would be a great batting team, but young arms would have trouble staying consistent all year. I'm thinking the O's could challenge New York for 2nd....but I still think that Boston will run away with it in the East.

I for one have not gone out to see the new Pirates Stadium because it just doesn't feel right. I mean when the owners are stuffing their pockets full of $20,000,000 each while they continue to have a salary cap that is exactly what it was 17 years ago, I'm not going to give them one G D red cent of my money.

Here is what I found quickly.

Not quite an "all contact" game, but Ken Holtzman's no hitter in 1969 was performed without a single strikeout, making it the only one of its kind since 1954.

Jerry Reuss's no nitter in 1980 had no walks and only 2 strikeouts, making it the no-hitter with the fewest strikeouts and no walks.

Bob Keegan's no hitter in 1957 had one strikeout and 2 walks.

And we have our second no-hitter in less than a week. Detroit's Justin Verlander takes a perfect game into the 8th inning before giving up a walk, but hangs on to get the no-no, the second no-hitter of his career. Struck out 4, ended with only that lone walk in the 8th inning to ruin the perfect game.

So the Rangers sweep the Indians in Cleveland in 4 game series over the weekend. Pitching two shutouts and out scoring the Indians 24-6 over the 4 games. They come home and get beat by the Tigers two straight - 13-7 and 8-1. I guess that the way baseball go.

What does everyone think of this idea?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6651634

Sources: MLB, players talk realignment

A simple form of realignment being seriously considered has been raised in the labor talks between Major League Baseball and the players' association, according to four sources: two leagues of 15 teams, rather than the current structure of 16 teams in the National League and 14 in the American League.

According to a highly ranked executive, one consideration that has been raised in ownership committee meetings is eliminating the divisions altogether, so that 15 AL and 15 NL teams would vie for five playoff spots within each league. Currently, Major League Baseball has six divisions.

A source who has been briefed on the specifics of the labor discussions says that the players' union has indicated that it is open to the idea of two 15-team leagues, but that the whole plan still hasn't been talked through or presented to the owners.

"I'd still say the odds of it happening are less than 50-50," one source said.

A sticking point involves interleague play. Because of the odd number of teams in each league, it is possible that a team in contention late in the season will have to be playing its final games in interleague play.

One of the biggest issues that would have to be resolved in any realignment resulting in two 15-team leagues is which of the National League teams would switch to the American League.

Two highly ranked executives believe the Houston Astros would be a possibility, because a switch to the AL for Houston would foster a rivalry between the Astros and the Texas Rangers.

"There are still a lot of details that would have to be discussed," one source said.

Buster Olney is a senior MLB writer for ESPN The Magazine.

Hey if they don't trade away and maybe make an trade they could contend in this shitty division (they are already, but you get my point). I think if they continue the owners and GM would be silly to trade away and or not make a play on someone. This division is ripe for the taking.

I didn't have high hopes for the Cubs this year. Anytime a new owner takes over, there is a period of no spending (i.e. Dodgers a few years ago). Throw in a ton of people going to the DL this year for any period of time (especially when starters #4 and #5 went down at the same time)...it just made it worse. There are too many teams in the central to really jump....Hopefully next season the wallet opens up, I am just not sure it should be for Pujols.

Meals’ explanation of his game-ending safe call

Plate umpire Jerry Meals became the focus of the conclusion of the 4-3, 19-inning win the Braves claimed over the Pirates at Turner Field Tuesday night. The game ended when he surprisingly called Julio Lugo safe after it appeared Pirates catcher Michael McKenry tagged him before he crossed the plate.

Meals provided an explanation of what he saw on the play, which began with Scott Proctor hitting a grounder to Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez whose throw to the plate easily beat Lugo.

Meals’ explanation:

“I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him and I called him safe for that. I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I’m guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened I didn’t see a tag.

“I just saw the glove sweep up. I didn’t see the glove hit his leg.”

"I had been in the HotLanta for way too long that night, I was late to a party at Magic City where I was suppose to meet JD and Bow Wow." Meals said while getting together his Pimp Cup and cane.

And man what a waste of money Fukudome was for the Cubs.

I would think so. I'd be shocked if the giants didn't go on a nice run at some point this second half.

Batters around Beltran are only going to get better. Guys like Schierholtz, Sandoval and Belt.

My Royals suck. Boy do we suck, granted we have a capable offense in many places...besides catcher and second base. Moose has stunk it up since a callup, probably putting way too much pressure on himself. Hosmer has been super awesomeness. We need us some Johnny Giovatella!

Its the goddamn pitching that has killed us. How Kyle fucking Davies has a job is beyond me. If I was Dayton Moore he would have been the first piece of shit out of here. Francis hasn't been much better, Hochevar is inconsistent as a Chinese whore, Chen is in that same mold of Hoch. Aaron Crow should be starting now.

Done deal. Rox trade away Jimenez for a bunch of fucking prospects. :fp: Trade away your #1 starter and not even get a damn MLB pitcher in return. Talk about showing that you're throwing in the towel for the season already.

Geez Pirates this is just an ugly stretch. If they don't rally around someone soon this thing is OVER.

Also every deal they made was nothing more then trading just so they could say they were buyers at the deadline. Lee (while hot lately) hasn't been any better the Overbay this season. And Ludwig :smh: atleast he was super cheap.

For some reason I'm drawing a blank on what his name is but they have a player in triple A that has been smacking the ball around good. Call him up, now and see what he can do.

Nailed it on two points here: Gio has been called up and is getting serious playing time at second. First game: 3-4, run, SB. Next game: GW HR. Not too shabby. If he keeps that up Chris getz becomes irrelevant and waiver bait.

Davies finally was released today. This came about 6 weeks too late. Go west young man...to Japan. I'll pack your passport w/a swift kick in the ass.

Playoffs are a very long shot...we're only 10 games back. :D

New name (Miami Marlins), new stadium, new manager (Ozzie Guillen)....you'd think they want to change the culture of building into a great team and then having a fire sale. They definitely have some good talent on the team right now.

I like the effort, but I dont think these are gonna have any long term effects, i think they'll sell out the first few games of the season then the fans will get bored and it'll slow fade into what it is now. They have a good team but its not good enough to compete in the NL East.
