Nebraska vs Washington. Ouch. Big ouch.

MSU vs. Bama. That should be interesting. Some good bowls before January too. Can't wait for the big one too. All the BCS bowls look really good except for UConn getting a spot. Michigan beat them for crying out loud.

Someone tell me who the hell schedules a team that went to the Big XII title game with a 6-6 Washington team we already played this year????? And we play them in 2011 also, so three times in the span of 12 months. Ridiculous.

Yeah, not only that but they missed a HUGE opportunity when they passed on IOWA-NEBRASKA. That stadium would've been packed and roudy!

A lot of the Bowl Matchups could have been better if not for conference tie-ins. From Matt Zemek at CollegeFootballNews.com:

HOW THE BOWLS COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

In a world without tie-ins... Boise State would play Alabama or LSU in the Cotton Bowl, while Texas A&M and Nevada could have locked horns in the Holiday Bowl.

In a world without tie-ins... Hawaii would host Arizona, not Tulsa. Oklahoma State would play Alabama or LSU, whoever did not play Boise in a hypothetical Cotton Bowl.

In a world without tie-ins... Missouri and Michigan State could find their way to a bowl matchup, perhaps in the Music City Bowl. Not the biggest payout, but a game worth relishing without oppressive travel demands.

In a world without tie-ins... Temple would have been able to play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl, a natural geographical fit.

In a world without tie-ins... the Military and BBVA Compass Bowls would swap East Carolina and Pittsburgh to reduce travel and create perfectly decent matchups that wouldn't be terribly different from the current arrangements.

JBHuskers

Yeah I don't get the tie-ins .... it would be a lot better without a tie-in.

I'm actually excited to see TCU / Wisconsin, would have been more excited for Boise / Utah if Utah didn't crap the bed to finish the year, excited for Auburn / Oregon cuz it's something new and I have Auburn at 4.5 to 1 to win the title (laid down just before the Bama game )

Some are saying they passed on us because Beebe told them to.I actually believe this. Iowa-Nebraska would be a "Big Ten preview game". Big 12 would hate that for their tie-in. It would basically go counter to EVERYTHING the Big 12 wants out of their bowls.

But seriously ... what a sad, sad state of affairs for the Pac-10 when their Holiday Bowl team is 6-6 Washington. The Holiday Bowl used to be one of the bowl games I looked forward to a lot. Not so much this year.

A lot of the Bowl Matchups could have been better if not for conference tie-ins. From Matt Zemek at CollegeFootballNews.com:"A word without tie-ins" is a hell of a lot of speculation though. That's borderline close to "if we had a playoff". Slow news day for CFN.

Though Temple being left out is truly a crock.

I would have rather faced an 8-4 Temple team than someone else we're going to play now for a 3rd time in 12 months.

Bold upset prediction - UConn beats OU.

That is quite bold and Oklahoma is quite good at shitty the bed in these BCS Bowl games where they play teams that most everyone considers to be inferior to them (though WVU was most definitely NOT inferior), but I don't see UConn beating them. UConn doesn't have a passing game at all. If the team can stop them from running the ball and score more than 10 points, they've pretty much sealed the game.

Just one of those gut feelings. Boise wasn't even supposed to touch OU back in that Fiesta Bowl either.

I don't like that color either, but I do like how the socks & their color bleed/blur into the back part of the shoe that has the same color. That part is actually pretty cool.

I thought they'd wear more of their green and yellow school colors in their first ever championship game. Too much 'surrender white' in this combo. Only Texas and Penn State can really pull off the all-whites.

You're right about the 'bleeding', that is kinda cool. It's just that the color is so, um, retinally-offensive, lol.

And I agree about the Ducks using too much white. When I said it wasn't bad, I was more-or-less referring to the fact that it doesn't pierce and burn my corneas. ;)

IIRC, the BCS title game last year was an ESPN broadcast but it was on ABC. That is to say, it had all of ESPN's presentation facets (including their logo) but it was actually broadcast on ABC.

I think I may finally buckle down and go to the Texas Bowl. Seeing RG3 and LeShoure should make it worthwhile.

That was the final step of our audition to get into the B1G. :p

Team was unmotivated and there's some talk NU didn't practice or prepare to the full extent it could have in the weeks leading up to the game. Lack of a consistent offense has killed NU the last two years big-time and the heat has risen drastically on our OC and offensive staff over the last few weeks.

Big 10 went 0-5 today. Tough day for the conference.I'm legitimately not sure if I would have bet on any of the Big Ten teams today ... so :: shrug ::. I expected a better effort from Sparty, but a loss isn't surprising. Penn State-Florida had about what I expected, in terms of result. Same for Wisconsin-TCU. Michigan I expected to be an ugly loss (no defense), and Northwestern actually did better than I expected.

I give TCU credit. They played a great game. I am shocked though how flat Wisconsin's offense was. I saw several Wisconsin games this year and their powerhouse offense didn't show up today. This game is reason enough to move to a +1 FORMAT. TCU as an undefeated should have the chance to go up against the other undefeated after the NC game.

JeffHCross
01-01-2011, 08:54 PM
Their offense did show up. They just left too many points on the field. They had a lot of good drives, but couldn't finish it off. TCU manned up when they needed to.

EDIT: To reiterate ... Wiscy had the ball for all but 3 plays of the 2nd quarter. And only got 3 points in the entire quarter.

I know "anything can happen" in college football but it appears I was justified in not watching the Fiesta Bowl. It had stampede written all over it as soon as it was announced. Glad the Rose Bowl was as good as I expected (and even happier that TCU won). And to think, back in the late '90s/early 00's, Southern Miss and TCU used to be kind of a thing. My have the fortunes of our programs changed drastically in different directions.

Only saw the first half. Will have to watch the rest of the game now. I struggle so much to stay awake at night. I've always been a morning person.

I am 100% the opposite, Rudy. I can get up early in the morning, and do if I need to, but I start to feel more energetic as the night goes on.

And with that, bowl season and college football are over for the year. :( :( :( At least it went out with a good game.

Another SEC win. Shock. But what I am surprised at is Chip Kelly. I think the gameplan was drawn up to make Nick Fairley the MVP. Against good, physical defenses the spread attack needs to make plays in the vertical passing game. They threw over 10 yards ONCE in the first half by my count. It's one of my biggest complaints about Rich Rod's offense - you have to take advantage of the big passing plays. Kelly normally does and I was annoyed that they didn't throw downfield more. They were a little too cute on the kickoff returns and all the motion early on although the craziness worked on the 2 point conversion and fake punt.

Another annoyance with Kelly and some spread coaches is their insistence on staying in the spread with 3 or 4 WRs in short yardage. If you do that you damn well be willing to throw the ball when the other team loads up in the box against the run. Late in the 3rd quarter the Ducks had the ball at the 2 after the big pass play. They line up in the spread with multiple receivers while Auburn stacks the box. They never even threw the ball and turned the ball over on downs. Freaking stupid imo.

Don't know what Auburn was thinking not trying to punch the ball in at the end with 10 seconds left but I think Newton was shaken up. Oregon's timeout actually helped them.

Good game overall. Not the high scoring affair we thought but neither was Florida-OU. A few too many turnovers along with a lot of Matthews and Fairley helped keep the score down.

That's what happens when you have nearly 40 days to prepare for a spread team that uses gimmicks to score most of the time. Neither team has a QB that is actually good enough to constantly attack all parts of the field, therefore the defenses were able to key in on the near the line of the scrimmage stuff as well as the read option stuff and limit the crazy stuff that either team was able to do. Clearly the better offensive line won the game, but if either team actually played a team with a good QB, they're defense would be in serious trouble (I'm a firm believer that if Mallett hadn't have gotten knocked out of the game when Arkansas and Auburn played, Arkansas would have beaten Auburn as Mallett's backup, who isn't really all that great, carved up Auburn but threw some horrible interceptions to give Auburn the game).

In my eyes it will forever remain a TAINTED title that is worthy of an * beside it.

However, I wasn't shocked the game was as defensive dominated as it was as neither team has a "real" QB capable of reading defenses and making precision throws.

The difference ended up being the defensive and offensive lines for Auburn were better than Oregons. Oregon couldn't block the Auburn front and couldn't get off the Auburn run game when it needed to the most.

As much fun as it was to watch Denard Robinson he is not capable of winning a title with how raw his passing skills are at this point. If he leaves Michigan it would hurt but that's the one position where Michigan has a lot of talent. A good physical defence can force a spread team to pass the ball and you need to have a QB that can take advantage. Thomas is decent at that, better than DR, although he's not a great runner. Cam Newton can make plays all over the place and Auburn took their shots downfield. I was surprised that Oregon didn't change up their coverage after Auburn burned them twice by getting a WR/RB matched up against 58.

I was happy to see Auburn win last night. While I am just as sick and freaking tired as everyone else of hearing about how many titles in a row the SEC has won, I just really damn hate Oregon for some reason. If I hadn't had to work from 5-9pm last night, I would have gone out and pick up some duck and made roast duck for dinner to enjoy while watching the game.
