I don't think we have a thread for this....I'll start it off by saying surprise surprise, the Kinect is overpriced:

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/13/kinect-hardware-worth-56-according-to-teardown/

Based on a recent teardown conducted by UBM TechInsights, it looks like the most expensive part of Microsoft's Kinect is the box it comes in. According to UBM TechInsights, the Kinect contains about $56 worth of hardware. Around $17 of that cost is attributed to the PrimeSense motion detection system, including the microphones, cameras and processor.

Of course, the $56 figure doesn't include manufacturing costs (not to mention some undoubtedly massive marketing costs). It's also worth noting that UBM's assessment is just an estimate and only Microsoft knows the real cost. Still, assuming the figure is even close to accurate, it would seem Microsoft makes an impressive chunk of change from the $150 price.

It's no different than Nintendo and the fuckin' Wii Balance Board. That thing is a piece of shit yet they were making a freakin' killing off of it (and still are). I mean, Wii Fit sold like 27 million copies or some shit at $100 a pop. Even charging $60 for the game, that's still $40 for a peripheral that probably cost a fraction of that to make (not to mention how overpriced $60 is for Wii Fit).

Not amazed at all. Think of kids' toys.....they are literally pennies or quarters to make, but cost $10+ for a simple plastic toy.

I didn't even consider it. I don't have 15 feet of clear space(exaggeration, but still), nor do any of the launch titles even remotely interest me. Lower the price, improve the technology, and make games that I actually want to play and then I'll buy it.

I just got a Wii and am getting the Move for Christmas, that's enough motion gaming for me.

Well, LOL at me. I walked into KMart today and ended up getting Kinect for $99 plus tax. Considering it's this close to the holidays and at that price, I couldn't say no. So I got it and hooked it up fairly painlessly. There's only about 3 feet of space in front of my TV, so before I play games, I'm going to have to move some stuff around, so even though it'll be a pain, I shouldn't have a problem doing it. Anyway, didn't play any games so I can't judge my experience on that, but just messing around the menus and trying out the voice command, Kinect is uber fucking awesome. The voice command is really simple to setup and is really accurate at picking up what you're saying. The motion when navigating the menus is fluid and feels natural. So based purely on the Minority Report part of it, I'm completely and utterly satisfied with my purchase. If I had known how good it was at voice command and the motion tracking, I would've picked it up on launch day.

Once they come out with hardcore style games for Kinect, it will be the complete package and I can't wait to give it a try. Unfortunately, there's no games out right now that really interest me, nor are there any really slated to come out soon, so it may be awhile before I can really gauge just how valuable it will be as a motion gaming system.

I haven't followed it closely, but are there any 'hardcore style' games coming out for it? The games I've seen look pretty kiddie and/or simple. Simple games are fine too (if fun) but not for the price of the game + Kinect, for me at least.

Not that I'm aware of. There's a Star Wars Kinect game slated for launch sometime in 2011, which will be interesting if it's developed correctly. Geoff Knightly has been teasing something for the upcoming G4 special on December 11th, saying that it's going to be something concerning Gears of War and Kinect. If done correctly, that will be awesome. Besides, if there's one thing Microsoft is not going to ignore, Kinect has already sold a million pieces of hardware. There's no way they're going to let that market slide with games they don't want. They want the hardcore gamers to buy them as well, which means it's only a matter of time before we see Halo, Gears of War, and anything else they can think of incorporating Kinect.

I doubt I'll see it under $100 again anytime soon, so I think it was a great choice to go ahead and buy it. Now whenever they do announce something I'm interested in, I'll be all set and ready to go.

By the way, you definitely need bare minimum 6 feet between you and the sensor. I'm pretty sure I can get just enough that room, if not a little more, so it's definitely not for rooms that are small and/or crowded with furniture. The camera itself sets up easier than the Eye for PS Move. I have the Eye basically hanging off the edge of the top of my TV, while Kinect actually has a stand that sits nicely directly in front of the TV. It scared the hell out of me when the camera physically moved. Kind of freaky the kind of technology they can come up with nowadays, and that's just for a gaming system. :D

Also, it's not QUITE as accurate as PS Move. Don't get me wrong, it's still pretty damn accurate and I didn't notice any lag(it'll be even better once I give it the full 6-8 feet), but PS Move is a little bit smoother. Once again, that may prove to be untrue once I move my stuff around, but if it's as smooth as Move with no controller, I'll be super impressed.

Kinect sex – what's the holdup?

http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/11/30/5552149-kinect-sex-whats-the-holdup

Go on. Admit it. If you own a Kinect, you've been wondering this very thing: How long until someone makes a Kinect sex game?

Microsoft's new body-tracking sensor for the Xbox 360 is one of those things that just begs for such adult speculation — especially when you see how it tracks and displays the movements of your full body in games like "Dance Central" and "Your Shape: Fitness Evolved."

The folks over at joke site MotionSwinger have already imagined the possibilities. "Get naked and jump into the world of love with your Xbox 360 and Kinect! Preorder MotionSwinger now...only $49.99!" (In case you couldn't guess, this site is totally NSFW)

Meanwhile, some wily folks have been hacking the device and getting it to do some pretty nifty stuff. So one can only imagine that somewhere...out there...someone is working on a homebrew game of virtual boom-boom.

In fact, industrious tinkerer Dan Wilcox has already hacked the Kinect to track breasts — man breasts that is.

But a real, honest-to-goodness Kinect sex game? While it's possible, it may not happen in any sort of, er, appealing way any time soon.

Kyle Machulis, a robotics engineer, sex-tech expert and the blogger behind Slashdong (NSFW! Duh!), has been giving Microsoft's device a good groping and has come to the conclusion that while Kinect sex and the use of the device in the making of and watching of pornography may be possible right now, it probably won't be particularly enjoyable to behold.

Here's a bit of what he had to say (with some mild editing):

So what can the Kinect bring to sex? Well, probably not a good real time rendering of your (male genitals), or strap-on, or really any genitalia in a usable way for pornography. Why? Because that’s not really what it was made for.

Microsoft put a ton of work into making the Kinect track the human body as a whole, so you can play games by jumping and running and generally acting the fool and feel like you’re in the game instead of just sad. Genitalia, for the most part, are not a major geometric feature of the human body when taken in perspective of physical size...Neither are they normally used in the control of video games, be they rated (for all) or (for adults only).

In his blog post, Machulis takes an in-depth look at how Kinect detects and translates movements of the human body and the short comings involved when X-Rated imagery is the goal. He summarizes:

In short, porn is about sex, but for many customers it’s also about being able to see the sex in a way that doesn’t make you think 'Wait, why does her arm detach completely when her boob is in front of it' or 'why does he have a penis shaped hole in his stomach.' The pattern the Kinect uses to get depth data is made for picking up full bodies to control video games, and therefore isn’t quite so good at picking up minutiae about those bodies.

Ultimately, however, Machulis knows what we all know: None of this will stop people from trying.

"I bet we’ll see Kinect porn and possibly Kinect Skype services within the month," he writes.

Thank goodness we have something to look forward to.

From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/xbox-live-rewards-program-launches/):

The "Xbox Live Rewards" program tested over a year ago is now a real thing. The website for the US/UK-only loyalty program is now live, and you can sign up and check out the rewards (http://rewards.xbox.com/).

It's kind of like Club Nintendo, except instead of fans and tote bags, you get Microsoft Points and Microsoft Points. The bonuses range from 10 MSP for renewing a one-month membership, all the way to 400 for buying or renewing a family plan. You can also get 100 points for activating Netflix, unspecified bonuses for buying certain things on Marketplace, and an occasional 20 points for taking surveys. Microsoft also promises "cool prizes" in promotions.

As Club Nintendo users know, there is basically no downside to a loyalty program like this. You do the stuff you were going to do anyway, and then someone gives you free stuff periodically.

Microsoft has kept the Xbox 360 wireless technology locked up tighter than Justin Bieber's personal cellphone number, which means that third-party companies have had to use Microsoft's proprietary 2.4 GHz wireless technology rather than Bluetooth when making peripherals. For controllers and things like guitars, that's fine and dandy, but when it comes to headphones, companies like Tritton, Turtle Beach, Astro, and others have had to create base stations that broadcast a wireless signal from the Xbox 360 to your headphones.

Finally, that clutter looks like it may be a thing of the past. Mad Catz announced today that they will be creating a line of both wired and wireless Xbox 360 licensed and branded headphones under their Tritton label, which marks the first time a company outside of Microsoft will release branded, wireless headphones.

If that means less wires and wall-warts plugged in behind my 360, I'm all for it. PlayStation 3 owners have had the luxury of using Bluetooth headsets for their gaming, but Microsoft has kept the wireless audio locked up until now. Let's hope that this trend continues, and that the world can finally heed my call: No More Wires.

You can get really good "surround" sound headsets for between $100 and $150. They're not true surround sound, but rather simulated.

Turtle Beach X41 Wireless (http://www.amazon.com/Force-Wireless-Digital-Headphone-Surround-360/dp/B002KSPKRS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1307473179&sr=8-2)
Tritton AX 720 Wired (http://www.amazon.com/Tritton-TRIAX-720-Dolby-Digital-Surround-Pc/dp/B002ZS6Y64/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1307473231&sr=8-2)
Sharkoon Wired (http://www.amazon.com/Sharkoon-X-Tatic-Surround-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B003H4QIC0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307473331&sr=8-1)

Of course, Tritton just launched the Warhead series (http://trittonusa.com/warhead/), which is licensed specifically for the 360. The one model is full 7.1 surround although I didn't see a price listed for it. Astro is also really, really good. The Astro A40 is the one I eventually went with and I have nothing to complain about it. But definitely, DEFINITELY stick to either Tritton, Astro, or the really new Turtle Beach models if you want the best quality.

Yo OU, I looked around some and ended up coming across what I thought was a good price for the Turtle Beach PX5 set. Hooked them up for the first time last night and they sounded good and worked perfectly. Went with those due to the transmitter having optical input/output so I wouldn't have to do some weird cabling stuff with how my HT is set up like some other headsets would have had to do. Only a short night of gaming with them so far, but I'm pretty pleased. Sure was nice to be able to hear little things in games that I never even knew were in the audio since I couldn't turn games up on the HT system with the family sleeping and all.

Yeah, Turtle Beach just recently came out with those. It has a HUGE feature list and is definitely a great headset if you're looking for something wireless. $249 is a GREAT price for a wireless surround sound headset. I paid that much for a freakin' wired one. :D

AustinWolv
06-16-2011, 03:19 PM
Even better is that I got it for $200 shipped. :)

I'll admit I was a little worried after playing with the Turtle Beach demo stuff at a Best Buy after pulling the trigger on the PX5s. They had the X11 and X41 (pretty sure it was the X41) sitting out to demo and obviously all the kiddies had beat them up, but neither unit sounded good at all, so it was that they were demo units or the source audio was crap or Best Buy had some weird setup that didn't allow them to work that well, because I was worried after that.
Thankfully, the PX5s sound really good at home and seem considerably more sturdy and nicely-made compared to those demo units.

The auto shutoff feature is nice, since I do get interrupted during gaming fairly often or get distracted by shiny things on the 'net.

Yes, it does update when you play some games (offline firmware/dashboard updates).

The reason why he can't play newer games is because I'd venture to guess he had someone crack his 360 to play burned games and now he can't play anything new without upgrading the crack on the firmware.

I've actually been seriously considering selling my 360 as I never play it anymore, but, then, I think that as soon as I do, I'll want to play something on it and I haven't pulled the trigger on selling it yet.

Well just my luck I get the last one and the sensor is broken (was able to play for about 30 minutes), had to get out in the snow to get my money back. Probably for the best, I should wait and see how well it works with TW 13 first. If it is anything like TW on the Move I might have to pass.

Not off to a great start today. The dashboard update for 360 was supposed to be released at 10am today. According to Major Nelson, it still hasn't been released due to an unannounced issue, and he has no exact time yet of when it actually will be released. Makes no difference to me as I already have the new dashboard with the most up to date version due to the beta, but overall, not a great start to the public release.

It's extremely different from the old dashboard, and will be a shock to lots of people when they first update to it, but it's warmed up to me over the past month and I have no problem with it. It definitely makes some things easier to access than on the old dashboard, though it also simultaneously makes some things harder to get to. But overall, I'm content with it.

It is tolerable but navigating the marketplace (games) is a PITA. The old dashboard was a ton easier to find things. Also there needs to be a simple way to find how many points you have on the console. Should show up on top or when you click on your avatar for info.

Still 10x better than the PS3 dash. There is a dash that could use an update.

Yeah, I agree with you there. The games marketplace has plummeted off a cliff compared to the old dashboard.

I do like though that they gave the apps their own section. I have Netflix, Zune, Facebook, Twitter, Dailymotion, and everything else all in one centralized location, rather than on the old one, where they had Netflix in TV & Movies, Zune in Music, Facebook and Twitter in one of the other random blades, etc. That much I do like. Keeps all the apps grouped and centralized and easy to access at once.

I wish they offered a little flexibility. I am one of those crazy kids who only uses his consoles for games. No videos, movies, radio, TV, Faceybookie, twittering, etc, etc. Let the user clean up their dashboard to remove all the stuff they are not going to use.

Also it has been 5 years, how about a few new free default themes and maybe an option or two in how it looks. Let us change background colors, etc.

Right to bear arms? Xbox Live drops avatar guns (http://ingame.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/27/9741581-right-to-bear-arms-xbox-live-drops-avatar-guns)

Looks like there’s no such thing as a Second Amendment in the world of virtual goods.

A new policy taking effect Jan. 1 will remove “gun-like” items from Microsoft’s Xbox Live Avatar Marketplace, the online store where gamers can buy items to dress up and accessorize their avatars, according to a forum post by a community manager for Epic Games, the company behind the blockbuster Gears of War franchise for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console.

Virtual weapons affected by the new policy include the Gears of War "Lancer," the combination chainsaw/assault rifle being brandished by my Xbox Live avatar in the accompanying picture.

The policy applies to accessories for the avatars that represent Xbox Live users, not to games themselves. And it's not retroactive. According to the Epic forum post, Xbox Live users will be able to keep any of the virtual items purchased before the policy goes into effect.

No reason was given for the change. In general, however, Microsoft is trying to expand the Xbox 360′s audience while continuing to appeal to hard-core gamers, which can be a difficult balance to strike. Avatars represent users across the Xbox Live system, raising the possibility that a younger or more family-oriented user of the console might encounter an avatar holding a weapon from an M-rated (for mature audiences) game.

Ever wonder why patches are slow to come out? A developer reveals that Microsoft charges $40,000 per patch (http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2012/02/16/microsofts-40000-per-xbox-patch-explains-why-updates-are-slow-to-roll-out/?awesm=tnw.to_1DMNH&utm_campaign=social%20media&utm_medium=Spreadus&utm_source=Twitter&utm_content=Microsoft's%20$40,000%20per%20Xbox%20p atch%20explains%20why%20updates%20are%20slow%20to% 20roll%20out).

Those systems as great as they are, they’re still closed. You have to jump through a lot of hoops, even for important stuff like patching and supporting your game. Those are things we really want to do, but we can’t do it on these systems. I mean, it costs $40,000 to put up a patch – we can’t afford that! Open systems like Steam, that allow us to set our own prices, that’s where it’s at, and doing it completely alone like Minecraft. That’s where people are going.”

I'm pretty sure Sony does the same (unsure on price) and I believe that MS also has a patch size restriction (at least smaller than Sony) which doesn't help either.

Xbox 360 System Update rolling out

I wanted to let you know that the team has just released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Starting today when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

This update will increase performance and is part of our continued effort to provide the best possible Xbox LIVE experience. In this update, we are providing a fix to a color issue that some were experiencing, and it will be immediately notable in the dashboard. The fix is also being applied by partners to their apps on Xbox LIVE, which we expect to roll out over the coming months.

They finally got around to adding MLB.tv to XBox Live. Watching Rays-Phillies live right now, and got Rockies-Diamondbacks from Tuesday going in split screen. Even with both games running at the same time, both still running in full HD, looks beautiful and no lag or issues. Between this, ESPN and Netflix, I could live on my Xbox at this rate.

Yeah I've had MLB.TV on the PS3 the past two seasons (didn't get it this year). Last year, the streaming was really improved over the first year they had it. I'm still debating on getting it now that I'll be moving in a couple months saving myself some cash since I'll have a roommate once again.

SmoothPancakes
03-29-2012, 03:11 PM
Yeah, I've had it the last two years and then this year again. Being a Rockies fan, the only time they are ever on TV is when they play the Tigers, Indians, Reds, White Sox or Cubs. So MLB.TV, I can watch all their games all season. Having it finally on XBox Live is great. I used to have to hook my laptop up to my TV with an HDMI cable and run in two-monitor mode so I could watch the games on my TV while doing other stuff on my laptop. I no longer have to deal with any of that anymore.

It's also nice having two games going at once in perfect HD without any lag or connection issues or any problems. I don't know if it was because of my old internet before I upgraded to Roadrunner, or because it's running through my 360, but on the laptop, I'd always have issues keeping my games in HD, as well as it randomly having to buffer on and off. No problems with either HD or buffering at all right now with two games going in split screen. Glad MS finally got it added. Like I said, between all the stuff on Netflix these days, MLB.TV and ESPN's app on 360, besides a couple various shows on the alphabet networks and some shows in Science Channel, History Channel, etc, right there's probably 70% of my entertainment needs right there with those three apps.

And Xbox Live is apparently down, worldwide. I was on Netflix watching a show when it suddenly lost connection. I thought it was my router being a piece of shit, but I still have wireless on my laptop, so it's Xbox Live. Doing some searching, the entire Xbox.com site is down as well. Some searching also has turned up reports from people that are disconnected elsewhere in the US, Great Britain, Germany, Australia, Italy, Netherlands, Brazil and the Philippines.

Looks like a server issue, as the xbox.com website currently displays

Server Error in '/' Application.Runtime Error

among other stuff. So unfortunately nothing to do but wait it out. Looks like I'm headed to the Netflix website to finish the episode I was on.

IE coming to the dashboard in the new update (http://news.yahoo.com/xbox-360-dashboard-brings-internet-explorer-console-014905778.html)

Yep. It works pretty well. I've been in the Fall Update beta since the end of August. Since they're officially rolling out the update for the general public today, I'm gonna assume it's fine to talk about the stuff in the beta/update now. I've used IE a handful of times (including one time when my laptop was being a piece of shit and wouldn't recognize the internet connection from my router. It's pretty simple and basic, doesn't have, nor need a bunch of bells and whistles. Only issue is it doesn't have Flash. So when I'd go to ESPN, I couldn't watch any videos on the site, or when I'd come here, I couldn't watch any videos in the Youtube or Music threads.

Another nice addition are pins. There's a thing on your Home blade called "My Pins". Basically a fast way of getting to your most used stuff. Right now, the stuff I have pinned: TGT main page, Google, ESPN, Netflix app, iHeartRadio app, Xbox Music app, ESPN on XBOX LIVE app, Hulu Plus app, MLB.TV app, and Amazon Instant Video app. So I can just go straight to those websites or apps without having to hunt them down in the Apps blade or open IE and then go through my favorites to get to that website.

I saw the Family Guy game get tossed up there a few days ago and thought, "Maybe it will be $39.99 or less." NOPE it was $59.99. Gamestop is selling it for $39.99 and Amazon $24.99.

Pretty lame app. All it does is streams PPV's that you buy; which cost just as much as through cable or satellite. :fp:

I kinda wonder if Sony changes their stance on it after the PS4 is out since PS+ is now going to be more like Live Gold.

So as a Xbox Live Silver member I can get these games for free from Microsoft? Yeah didn't think so. Saying that Sony's free games aren't free but part of the Subscription and then saying that Microsoft's aren't is dumb as fuck man. I have to pay money to have access to them right? Then clearly neither is actually free.

But, paying $50 for Mega Man 9, Mega Man 10, Darksiders, Spec Ops: The Line, Demon's Souls, Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Saints Row: The Third, Uncharted 3, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown compared to what will likely be 2009-2010 XBLA titles and shitty sequels (Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2... seriously?!) sounds like a clear winner to me.

I don't know the full details about PS Plus, but when you end your subscription, can you still play all those games or are they no longer accessible? If they are no longer accessible after cancelling PS Plus, then you're missing the point Beatn was making. Yes, you have to Live Gold to access the games, but the games are TRULY FREE. You can cancel your Gold subscription and you will always have access and be able to play those games for as long as you keep your 360. MS is making them actually free, not just free as long as you keep your Gold subscription active.

Uh, Sony's free games are the ENTIRE subscription. Do you get Cross Game Chat with Plus? No? Well damn. How about parties? Nope. Cross game invites?

Live has been a subscription for online services for the past 5 or 6 years. Out of the blue, they offered free stuff to current members. Members that are already paying, so they're getting a bonus. It's not even remotely close to the same thing as what Plus is.

In fact, very easy way to solve this: How many people would subscribe to Live if these free games weren't offered? All of them. How many people would subscribe to Plus if the free games weren't offered? Zero.

I'm not sure what % of XBL people are Gold members, but I'm sure it's a high %. Once PS+ is needed for online play, that difference will pretty much be a mute point as most people are going to be subscribers to continue to be able to play online. It's not like Sony is giving us a ton of reasons to cancel.

True, very true. I was just looking at it and thinking about it in regards to currently, with the terms of access for the games when it concerns your subscription. I haven't really ever looked at the full details of Plus, since I don't have a PS3, so I have no idea how they treat the accessibility to those games tied to your Plus subscription.

Like I said, it's fucking stupid to compare the two because they're not the same thing. The entire concept behind Plus was to get members to subscribe and give them "free" games and a deeper discount on sales. It doesn't provide any additional features other than online storage because it's not a feature service, it's a glorified rental service. Xbox Live is a features service and has been since it's beginning. It has online features that people want, hence why it has such high subscriber numbers.

Is what they're currently doing similar to Plus? Yes, however when you're offering it to members that are ALREADY PAYING WITHOUT THE FREE GAMES, then it truly is free. The games you get on Plus are not free, so yeah, I'd assume there's going to be a pretty substantial quality difference in the games offered between the two services.

Crysis is good... certainly worth $5. Not sure on consoles but I enjoyed it on PC.

SmoothPancakes
07-02-2013, 09:47 AM
Yeah, I know it's been hugely popular on PC, a lot of friends have liked it. Not sure the differences between the PC and 360 versions, but for $5, eh, what the hell. I'll take the chance. I've bought a couple games in the last couple years on chance and ended up enjoying them. Sleeping Dogs, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., Sniper Elite V2, R.U.S.E., etc.

Granted, Sleeping Dogs, H.A.W.X. and Sniper Elite V2 had demos and it was originally on Steam that I took a gamble on R.U.S.E before later getting it also on 360, but I didn't know a whole lot about the games outside of the demos and too the dive anyways, have had a lot of fun with all of them. So for $5, I'll give Crysis a whirl. Plus, if I like Crysis, Crysis 3 is supposed to be on sale sometime this week, so I could then look at buying that cheap and placing it on the "To Play" pile and then pick up Crysis 2 separately.

gschwendt
07-02-2013, 09:59 AM
Crysis 2, while a sequel, plays quite differently than Crysis 1. For one, the first is open world first person game; Crysis 2 is an on-rails shooter. Second, in the first one, if you go guns blazing, you'll die quite fast where as in the second one, you can go stealth but more often then not you'll just end up guns blazing.

I haven't played the 3rd yet.

SmoothPancakes
07-02-2013, 10:19 AM
Damn, that's a hell of a change from one game to the next. And that sounds good to me on the first one. I've always enjoyed the stealth games. I do plenty of run and gun, guns a blazing gameplay in Halo and Call of Duty already, so the games where you need to use stealth are always a welcome change for me. One of the main reasons I've greatly enjoyed the Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell games, due to the large use of stealth in them.

I did get Bulletstorm for $5 yesterday, along with Crysis for $5. Crysis I'll take the $5 gamble on it, odds are I'll probably at least reasonably enjoy it. Bulletstorm, I had a lot of fun with the demo ages ago, so that was an easy purchase. Already up to early Act 4, in the campaign with a whole lot of ass whooping in between. Definitely a game that I'm gonna play a lot, especially the Echo missions where I can just do some mindless ass whooping and shoot for some inventive deaths.

Yeah, I'm definitely not surprised by that. With as quickly as I was plowing through Acts and Chapters last night in just a short 2 or 3 hours, I figured the campaign itself was pretty short. But I'm fine with that. It's such a fun game, even if the campaign is short, I'm cool with it. Even the campaign is fun that for me at least, the replayability factor of the campaign will still be high. Go plowing through the campaign every now and then just whooping some ass.

I also love the dialogue. Some of the most original dialogue I have come across in a game in recent years. One of my favorite lines was "I named him Waggleton P. Tallylicker, but I never got the chance to tell him. He will be missed." :D

I had to pause the game after that line for a moment so I could eventually stop laughing and be able to advance in the game without potentially dying.

Its addictive as hell, its everything you would want in a game, pointless shooting, very high replayability (like its unbeatable, unless you actually get to 5000 rank) and if you have friends it is pretty entertaining.

I picked it up on 360

With all that being said its does have its drawbacks, its glitchy as shit sometimes, the world is huge so sometimes its overwhelming. Overall I l really enjoy it, I will say though if you get it on 360 the initial patches will take you about 2 hours to download they are huge and its alot of them.

With all that being said its does have its drawbacks, its glitchy as shit sometimes, the world is huge so sometimes its overwhelming. Overall I l really enjoy it, I will say though if you get it on 360 the initial patches will take you about 2 hours to download they are huge and its alot of them.

You must have signed up for the beta. The beta dashboard launched today.

There was an update for NCAA14 that downloaded also, along with a tuner update as well.

Not that those are system updates. ;)

MS doing away with the rewards program next month... (http://www.polygon.com/2013/7/11/4513730/xbox-live-will-phase-out-microsoft-points-rewards-next-month)

It was pretty cool. I probably got $20 in :msp: during the lifetime of it.

Phasing it out because of switching to currency transactions instead of :msp: and revealing a new rewards program on 9/1.

If you ever want to play some borderlands 2 together just let me know, I'm normally down to play.

I started it back up, headaches be damned. If you want to play I will give co-op a shot. Only level 7 and not far into the game but having another human would provide helpful.

Edit: Probably would have been better to PM this. :fp:

2 was a lot of fun. Assassin's Creed (the first game) has received a lot of criticism (and very much fairly) for being so damn repetitive. I completed the game, but I never went back to try and get 1000 :gs: on it because it was so repetitive. But Assassin's Creed 2, it was night and day. The game was so much fun, I got 1000 :gs: on it and bought and played all of the DLC for it. 2 was very fun and is one of my favorites in the series.

Brotherhood was pretty good, Revelations was alright. AC3 is fun. A lot of people have said they don't like it, but I've still had a lot of fun with it. Something about going up against a slew of redcoats around one of the towns and mowing them all down with a tomahawk, I don't know why, but I could sit there all day doing it.

With the discounts on the various DLCs, I might go back and see what DLC I didn't buy for Brotherhood and Revelations (there were one game I don't think I bought any of the DLC at the time), so I might go back and buy the DLC this time around and jump back in a couple of the older games for old time's sake.

The first one is absolutely one of the most annoying 1000 GS/platinum I've ever gotten. Find 320 feathers, find 100 flags, get all 90+ high points, watch every second of the cutscenes to trigger the stupid memory glitches (dumbest idea EVER), and then kill all 60 templars. The templar one is especially rage inducing, because if you alert the guards and they force you into open combat and you're around the templar, the damn thing will sometimes glitch and you'll have to start the game over.

I got to the end of the game and had 59/60. I went back through and double checked every location using a guide. Nothing. I'm still ashamed to say that I actually went back through and did it all over again. :fp:

Never mind that, though, the game is repetitive as hell but it does a good job of introducing you to the story that all the other games follow. It's... okay.

SmoothPancakes

Ugh, I forgot about that side shit. Yeah, that is one reason I never bothered going for 1000 :gs:, because I ended up with the fucking Templar glitch. But, there was no way in HELL I was about to go and play through the story AGAIN just to get try and get the Templar achievement. At least not back at that time.

And unfortunately, I quickly moved on to AC2 (I bought AC1 and AC2 at the same time from either Amazon or eBay, can't remember exactly which), then onto Brotherhood and Revelations (first games of the series that I bought at release and not months or years after they were released) and then AC3. I'm not sure I could actually get myself to willingly go back and play AC1 all over again just to get those damn feathers, flags and potentially glitched all to hell Templars.

But yeah, for someone starting out for the first time, I definitely recommend AC1 so you know the story from the very beginning. I convinced my best friend from college into getting into the AC series after a while, and I told him from the start that AC1 was very repetitive and he'd probably be tired of it by the end of the game, and unless he was willing to just roll with a very basic overview of the storyline from Wikipedia or something, it would be best to at least play through the story (forget about trying all the side mission crap) so he was fully up to speed when he fired up AC2.

Nah, those guys who have 10,000+ trophies and 100,000+ gamerscores are the ones that turn it into work. I still haven't hit 50,000 yet. :D

Yeah there aren't too many games I go out of my way for a platinum, else I'd have more than 11. Between NCAA 10 and Tiger 13, there is just some grinding I need to do in order to get the platinum, and I just haven't gotten around to it.

Yeah, I'm still only at 30-sum thousand gamerscore.

Most games I'm not gonna go way out of my way to get achievements, but some games, where I can get a lot or most just through normal gameplay, I may look at what remaining achievements there are and if they're worth trying to complete for 1,000 :gs:. Games with incredibly bitchy achievements or achievements where the only way to go them is through dozens or hundreds of hours of grinding, yeah, fuck that.

AustinWolv
07-16-2013, 10:07 AM
I hate games with collectibles for achievements. They are just filler IMO and very rarely add usefulness or replay value to the game.

I can't comment on the grinding since I HAVE done that before (Starhawk, just, lol...might be the worst trophies ever in a game :D), but I don't do it very often. I'd much rather start something new, but if it's a game I like, then I will grind a little bit. I'm not putting 200 or 300+ hours into it like some people, but I will occasionally do a little light grinding.

The thing I've noticed with myself is if something like 2% of the people in the world have it, I'll go for it just for the challenge of doing it. I realize I'm not going to get a damn thing for it, but I can't help myself. :D

Popular game + Amazon has a crap load of fulfillment centers (http://outright.com/blog/locations-of-amazon-fulfillment-centers-2/). Two in Washington with a third on the way. Sometimes you get lucky depending on what you buy and your location. My parents ordered an air filter with free super saver shipping and got it in two days. The days of 5-8 business days to get a product is going the way of the Dodo. Especially in areas like ours Washington/Texas that pay taxes on Amazon orders.

Yeah, I always get my stuff within one to two days, regardless of shipping speed. We have distribution center "just down the road" in Indianapolis. So it's very quick. Leaves Indianapolis late evening, goes to the UPS hub in Columbus, arriving between 2 and 4am, then ships out on its way here to town, arriving between 6 and 8am, loaded up on the truck and out for delivery by no later than 9am that next day after leaving Indy.

Fucking Microsoft is doing the same thing as Sony is with Plus and using it to offload old games to renew interest in upcoming sequels. :D

First we get Assassin's Creed 2, which has a sequel this year.

Tomorrow we get Crackdown (rumored to have Crackdown 3 revealed in August). On the 16th we get Dead Rising 2 and Case Zero with the sequel launching with the One. I guess it's smart business, though.

Not terrible, not amazing. I'll download both Crackdown and Dead Rising 2, though. Pretty sure I already have Case Zero.

No clue what Crackdown is about, but Dead Rising 2 (and Case West) have caught my interest in the past, just never got around to buying it. So I'll definitely be downloading Dead Rising 2 and Case West on the 16th. I'll probably look at downloading Crackdown, since it's free, but I'll have to see what it's about.

I never played the original, but Crackdown 2 wasn't my cup of tea. It's kind of like inFAMOUS, but I didn't like that, either. :D

The problem I had with all those games is that they're open world, but they really limit what you can do. If I'm playing an open world game, I want it to be legitimately open world with things to do, not just running around collecting shit and blowing shit up for the hell of it.

It's funny because both Crackdown and inFAMOUS scored really well, but I hated them both. :D
