If there really isn't anything specific to talk about just a one-liner, use this thread.

With that said, I was calling GameStop to see if the shipment for the new controller came in today, and the GameStop employee has no idea that the new controller comes out today for 360 :D ugh, I've been waiting for that bad boy for a couple months now. Now I'm on hold listening to some customer ask stupid questions to another employee.

lol. i swear 3/4 of the kids that work at Game Stop don't even play video games.

sort of a random thought. Does anyone think the video game store will become a dinosaur in say the next decade (ala blockbuster)?

IMHO, it appears to me that technology is going to almost eliminate the need/demand for consoles/discs etc... I believe in the future nearly all t.v.s will have wireless internet capabilities where users can simply download the game (for purchase or to rent) thus eliminating the need for hard copies of games or even consoles to play them on.

Yes, and it's retarded... I tried to get a job there when I was 16 or 17 and the fuckers wouldn't hire me (me, who played the hell out of video games) but they hire some moron that doesn't know dick about video games to work there...

It's already being worked on. Can't remember the name of the device, but there was this company that offered a $200 (I think it was $200, may have been less) device with a nominal monthly fee (like $30 or something) that basically gave you access to everything ala Steam but it streamed the entire process via the internet so you didn't have to worry about not having a good enough computer to run it or not having the next best console to play the game. It was just available to you to play. It was pretty ambitious as this was like 3 or 4 years ago I think when I heard about it. Not sure whatever happened to it (probably the fact that it would never truly work because of shitty internet speeds in the US along with game company contract issues) but it's obviously not here yet.

lol. i swear 3/4 of the kids that work at Game Stop don't even play video games.I wouldn't say 3/4, but probably a good amount of them don't. But hell, even if they did ... that doesn't mean they actually pay attention to the industry. I worked at a movie store for 2 years, and besides what was up on the big board and on our preview DVDs, I had no clue what movies were coming out when. I knew exactly when games were coming out, but, even then, only the ones I was interested in.

If the kid's a PS3 gamer, it wouldn't be surprising at all that he didn't know about the new 360 controller. Well ... I suppose he should have known it was in-stock today ...

But the one thing to consider is the size of the game. Regularly downloading full-size titles still isn't possible on the majority of our Internet infrastructure. Those of us in cities (or on college campuses) are in luck, but the rural customers -- not so much.

it's obviously not here yet. It's here, and it's been out for four months. http://www.vgrevolution.com/2010/07/onlive-review/

Yeah it took him five minutes to figure that out too....

And yeah OnLive isn't going to take over the disc-based gaming world at all in my opinion; nor am I interested in it.

IGN: What is the biggest problem in the games industry right now?

Bilson: Used games. As far as the industry is concerned, there's nothing wrong with that answer. Used games is leading to all of the other "problems" we have right now ... such as the new obsession with "Online Pass"-like features.

Speaking of employees in video game departments & stores:

- Stopped at Wal-Mart at 1 PM yesterday looking for NBA JAM. Older female employee is putting out new titles from the 'Do not open until 11/16 boxes.' I ask if she is putting out all of the new games and she responds with 'yes, looking for Assassin's Creed?' 'No....NBA JAM on PS3.' 'Did you see it out anywhere?' ... 'No.' 'Well, sometimes they ship on the day they say it releases, so check back in 2-3 days.' I figured if she didn't want to look through the boxes of new arrivals, I wasn't going to suggest it as they must not want my money.

- I head over to GameStop, which was pretty busy. As I wait in line, I see a spreadsheet by the counter listing the release date for all PS3 SKUs, and 11/16 is listed for the NBA JAM release. So I ask the younger cashier if they received NBA JAM for the PS3. He looks confused and then hops on the CPu and says 'Sorry....it looks like it was a Wii exclusive.' I grabbed the sheet right beside the desk and said 'Are you sure?' 'Am I sure?' He then looks at the sheet and has the other coworker investigate. After a few minutes, he finds three of them in the shipment but has to check and see if he has enough to cover pre-orders first! :D After a minute, he sells me the game. This cashier did know that ELITE was cancelled as he said he thought JAM would be as well. After those hoops, I was able to get the game.

So, today, my wife and I head over to GameStop to get some games for some kids she knows for Christmas. As we were in line to checkout, she notices that GameStop is taking orders on DLC. She asks, "Why do you need to pre-order DLC? Can't you just buy it on the system?" I said, "Yeah, it's GameStop's way of trying to stay relevant as we slowly transition to the digital download age. You don't need to pre-order DLC because there are infinite copies of it in a computer somewhere." Pre-ordering DLC is the craziest thing I've ever heard.

Its really not that crazy when you think about it, I normally pay my games off over time, especially during this time of year when there a crap ton coming out, so I would guess that would apply to some people as far as DLC is concerned, instead of taking the blunt of buying everything at one time pay off over time like a lay-a-way. Now if you dont do anything of the sorts then yeah you are an idiot for preordering DLC

It's only, what, $10-$15? Do you really need to pay that off in installments? I get pre-ordering a disc game because a store's space if finite.

As a married man YES I DO need to pay it off in installments!! LMAO

If I walk in the door with 6 games and then buy some new DLC she will shit bricks, mostly because I stop her from buying stuff.

With that being said I have never done this with DLC, its been so long since some DLC has come out that I have wanted, but I Normally keep a stash of MS points.

Two hour show that announces a whopping 10 awards. And most of the world premiere trailers ... well ... sucked.

Elder Scrolls might have been the only game announced that I didn't already know was coming.

I preordered it the second it was announced. Not only is it the coolest collector's edition I've seen, but it's probably the best value. For $130 you get a Helghast helmet and display stand, a action figure of a Helghast marksman, an art book, 2 remastered maps from Killzone 2, a dynamic theme, the soundtrack, and then a code that grants access to double XP and all weapons and abilities for your first 24 hours of gameplay. That. Is. Awesome.

Sony is absolutely awesome at collector's edition. GT5 was a damn good one, too.

The Spike VGAs may have put on a brave front this year, but the ratings have once again shown a decline, reports Variety. 627,000 people tuned in on Saturday night, a three percent drop from last year -- about 20,000 viewers. To help put that figure into context, the show's debut in 2007 enjoyed a much more substantial 921,000 viewers.

It wasn't all a total downer, though (unless you actually watched the show, we guess). The VGAs actually saw a rise in viewers within key demographics. The Neil Patrick Harris-hosted show received a 12 percent boost in adult viewers aged 18 to 49, from 370,000 last year to 450,000, while 18- to 34-year-old viewers increased in number by five percent, from 278,000 viewers last year to 292,000 this year. Men aged 18 to 34 showed the most significant rise -- 15 percent over last year, from 281,000 viewers to 251,000.

(Amazed that it only draws that many viewers, figured it would be at least over a mil.)

So did you carry on with your original game? That's how you got it play through it the first time. Take whatever comes your way. Any playthroughs afterwards, you should play it how you feel.

I messed up on that section too the first time. I also didn't save someone one of the other characters by accident from dying so on my first playthough, I kept 2 alive and 2 died. After I beat it, I went back and replayed a lot of the branching scenes to get a different outcome.

found madden 11 at walmart.com for $37.99, so i went to best buy and asked them if they would price match it, since they had madden 11 marked at $60. the chick behind the counter said they would but only if it was an in-store price. she checks, asks the manager if it was an online-only price; he checks it, says it probably is an online only price, but because it doesnt specifically say "online only", best buy will honor the price match guarantee.

i just thought it was funny, cuz during the whole time, he said, "i dont want to bad mouth walmart or anything, but most of the time, they wont even honor their own website prices in-store. thats not very cool to their customers." the chick also had this funny look on her face as she asked the manager, "how can they offer it that low?"

anyways, best buy matched the $37.99 price, and when i used a $25 gift card, i ended up getting it for only $16.22. pretty good deal, i thought.

Just like God of War 3 which just isn't my type of game. It's like God of War III in terms of the Quick Time events, but otherwise it's nothing like God of War. The quick time events get pretty intuitive after a while, and other than one scene near the end of the game, you can mess up on a lot of the events and still succeed at the game. You can also change the settings based on how comfortable you are with the controller, which would influence how complex the events become.

Great job, Game of the Year! LOL!

You gotta go back and see some of the bad endings. You remember how sad the game was in the beginning after Jason died? Watch some endings where any (or all) of the characters die. Like I said, on my first playthrough, I played it out, no matter what happened. On subsequent playthroughs, I played "storyteller" and altered things to get different results.

In a world where it's so hard to distinguish the difference between games - Heavy Rain was absolutely amazing. I never thought I'd like that kind of game. I like shooters and sports games.

I got one of the endings where the little boy lived, but so did the killer. Everyone else died. What a game...

How it ended my very first playthough. Spoilers below

Both Madison and Lauren died. Madison died in the basement of the crazy dude. I couldn't get out of the ropes fast enough. Lauren dying was an accident. I didn't mean to have Lauren die but I broke the window before unbuckling her seatbelt in the submerged car. Ethan did save Shaun and Norman became famous for stopping the Oragami Killer. I also completed all 5 trials with Ethan. The only one I don't think I could have done in real life if I were in that situation was the 3rd one, where he had to cut off a finger. All the other ones, including the last, I would've done with no hesitation.

So my PS3 won't read blu-ray discs (games or movies). It will load the disc into the tray, act like it will attempt to read it, then after it would normally begin loading the disc, the drive clunks like it's going to kick the disc out (or suck it in further) but the disc never comes out. I can press the eject button and it comes out just fine. Nothing ever happens on the GUI... never gives an error, never shows the game to be able to start it, etc.

About the only suggestions I've found (other than send it to Sony) are to clean out the dust and also to use a laser lens cleaning disc (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Digital+Innovations+-+CleanDr+Laser+Lens+Cleaner+for+PlayStation+3/1146644.p?id=1218224797432&skuId=1146644). Any other thoughts?

Happened to me 3 times. Bad Bluray Drive. You can try cleaning, but I tried that the first time and it didn't help at all. Sony charges $150 to fix it if it's out of the one year warranty.

What's strange is that it was working perfectly fine on Sunday. Then, I've been out of town up until today (with the heat off in the house if that factors in) and it starts acting up today... first sign of any defect.

G, when you put the disc in, do you see the icon in the top right that indicates it's reading the disc? If you see that, then I agree with I OU -- bad drive. I had to ship mine to Sony when it had that problem. Personally wouldn't trust the cleaning discs, but that's just my opinion.

My first two froze while playing a game and stopped working after I rebooted. The last time is just randomly stopped after I had tried to play for the first time in 3 days. They're notorious for breaking a LOT, but unlike Microsoft, Sony is just really good at covering up just how often that happens. If you have a phat, I'd suggest possibly getting a new slim. The newer slims have bluray drives that are actually manufactured by Sony and are said to be much better even though the 3rd system that I had the issue with was a slim. I've had my current slim for a few months and it's already starting to make clicking noises.

Xbox is truly no better. I've had three significant issues with mine since I got it like 2 1/2 years ago (Pro one with the improved cooling system to prevent RRoD) and it's been nothing but downhill from there (twice, including this time, I've had issues with not reading games as well as it should be or not at all and shortly after I got it, I had the YLoD with the video connector issue that had to be fixed by Microsoft).

I'm starting to get disgusted with consoles again and I'm tempted to just sell them both and upgrade my damn computer again and say to hell with them both...

I like 360, but there's no way I'd ever get rid of my PS3 for one. Yes, Live is awesome and Sony can definitely learn a few lessons about online access from Microsoft. However, I LOVE my PS3. 360 has Gears, Halo, and Fable. That's literally all I'm interested in retail wise. With the PS3, shit. There's Killzone, SOCOM, LBP, Uncharted, MLB: The Show, Gran Turismo, Resistance, Motorstorm, etc etc etc....I know I'm missing about 10 I can't even think of. The first party games that Sony has is just no match for 360.

Truthfully, I can't get rid of them both because I have to be able to play NCAA Football next season, but I'm damn annoyed by technical issues that multi-billion dollar companies are having with their products.

PS3 doing what it's doing wouldn't be a big deal if they would just let me install the damn disc on the HDD...

An update to my console issues... if I let my console stay on without a disc in the drive, then come back ~30 minutes later and put a disc in, it works fine.

I'm going to start just removing the disc before powering off and see if that helps or not. As well, I'll go ahead and buy that lens cleaner just to see if that helps at all. Needless to say though, I am a bit concerned.

And for added details, it's a Slim that I got right around the time they released the first 120GB Slims so it's out of warranty.

Just for shits 'n' giggles, try what I mentioned above. Turn your PS3 off. Once it's off, hold the power button in. The system will turn on so keep holding it and after probably 10 or 15 seconds it'll beep again and turn off. Once it's off, again press and hold the power button and this time hold it until it gives you the beep...beep beep. Once the two rapid beeps occur, let go. It'll ask your to connect your controller via USB. Do that, then select "Rebuild Database." It will only delete your messages and has been rumored to fix issues with disc reading occasionally.

I recently got my hands on the "Ultimate Edition" which includes 1943 and a bunch of DLC for online (which I probably won't get any use out of because online shooters aren't for me). I've never played any of of this series but, through the first couple of missions, it seems pretty good.

I played it a ton. It's a BILLION times better than any Call of Duty game, both online and campaign wise. I thought the campaign was extremely fresh and just fun. Online is one of the best you'll find in a shooter. Smooth gameplay and all the weapons are balanced. Vietnam is only worth it if you play the game online a lot. It basically adds a bunch of Vietnam themed weapons and enemies on 5 new maps, so naturally it's a multiplayer only expansion, but it's definitely worth it if you play online a lot.

RIP Guitar Hero (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/09/report-activision-axing-guitar-hero-and-true-crime-freestyle-g/)

And the True Crime series.

Gotta say, Guitar Hero was great in the beginning, but Rock Band has totally destroyed it. Getting rid of Harmonics was the dumbest thing Activision could have possibly done.

JeffHCross
02-09-2011, 08:47 PM
Honestly, I don't think even having Harmonix stick around would have helped (though it would have meant one less competitor, obviously). Yearly titles in the peripheral music genre is what fundamentally killed it. And the design of Guitar Hero (and the title specific DLC) killed GH for me. If I was to pick up either game right now, it would be Rock Band, because then I can utilize all the DLC dating back to Day 1, if I have specific songs I want to play.

JeffHCross
02-09-2011, 10:57 PM
http://pc.ign.com/articles/114/1148889p1.html

Peripheral based games were not profitable for Activision in 2010.

In a somewhat unsurprising statement given the earlier announcement of Guitar Hero's end, Activision nonetheless emphasized that not only did series such as Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero fail to meet expectations in 2010, they did not reach profitability. This would explain why Activision took such drastic measures in ending both series rather than trying to radically reinvent them, the route they've tried over the last two years with Tony Hawk: Ride and Shred, and Guitar Hero 5 and Warriors of Rock and the more casual friendly Band Hero.

Damn.

I saw some ranting about Gamestop and wanted to put in my 2 cents.

I agree some of those younger people don't seem to know anything about customer service, but that's really not anything to do with Gamestop, it's EVERYWHERE. I feel like an old man when I go anywhere that requires the associates to speak to you...they just don't do it like I was trained and I'm only 34.

Now, onto my rant about Gamestop. Seeing as how they do not have customer service skills, and all they seem to be doing is "holding the counter down with their back side" I don't see why 1 of them can't be incharge of updating inventory.

It annoys me to know end to use their online search feature to "check in-store availibitly". We have 3 gamestops here in town, well EVERY single time I use that feature it's WRONG. I check it and it says they have it at 2 of the 3. So I call and make sure before driving over there...well the "super teenager" working there says, "well if the internet says we have it, then we have it." I ask him/her to check and they are all of sudden too busy.

So I drive over there, sure enough, they DO NOT have it and when they check their computer inventory they tell me the other 2 stores DO have it. It's ALWAYS OFF.

Either way, I get back in the car and drive to one of the other stores and they have it, it just would be nice to not have to make unnecessary trips. This could easily be solved by one of those kids, turning their cell phones off, stop texting and check the inventory. It would be a headache at first but if you got it undercontrol, then did it once per day it would be easy to stay on top of.

Morale of the story, after internet searching, driving around on the wild goose chase I picked up Top Spin 3 for PS3 for $17. The man at the store told me it wouldn't go down that much when Top Spin 4 comes out b/c it's not popular like NCAA or Madden. He said those titles (madden & ncaa) drop like a rock in price b/c they get 100+ used copies the week/day before the new one comes out. He said it's not like that w/ the tennis game. He said it might drop a few dollars but not down like the NCAA and Madden do. So I went ahead and bought it....going to be annoying if it's $2 the day after Top Spin 4 comes out...but what are you gonna do?

gigemaggs99
02-25-2011, 01:15 PM
Question/suggestion....

I now own 2 PS3 games, NCAA 11 and Top Spin 3, haven't tried TP3 yet but here is my question. I have Tiger Woods 12 Collector's Edition pre-ordered. I'm torn between selling NCAA 11 back, the manager at Gamestop told me if I'm going to sell it back, I need to do it before the 6th of March. He said that is when it will start dropping in price and trade-in value.

My problem is, I LOVE THIS GAME. I don't really want to be without a college football game for what would be close to 4+ months. I know I'll be busy with Tiger Woods and probably this Top Spin 3 but I'm in a few OD that will "hopefully" last until the new NCAA 12 comes out (which I'll buy for sure!).

So would you sell/trade-in NCAA 11? I know I will not play it when 12 comes out. I've had this issue for years, basically as long as I've been playing the series, since back in the days of college (late 90s). Every year I trade NCAA in on the newer version and I get a whopping $.50-2.00....WEEEEEEEE I know that's the nature of the beast, but if I could trade it ......blah blah blah....

I feel like the million dollar man ("Everyone has a price")...anyone remember him from WWF Wrestling?

While I was typing this up I figured I'd call Gametstop and just see how much that current trade-in is worth. Well, in good condition, it's a WHOLE $18. So Nevermind, going to keep it and play it. Sorry for wasting server space.

Happy Gaming!

It would actually be $27 because they're doing a 50% extra trade in value. Considering I'd value NCAA '11 at about $10, I'd definitely take almost $30 for it.

Gamestop does suck, though. If you have time, eBay or Amazon are much better when trading in games unless GS is holding one of their 50% extra like they are now til March 6.

That said, gigem, he's not completely wrong. Last year when Gamestop was running a 50% extra trade-in event, I took advantage of it by trading in NCAA 10. If you think you're going to trade it in ever before NCAA 12 releases, now is probably the best time to do it.

I didn't mean it that way. Granted, I don't like it, but it's now over 6 months since it released and info will be coming out for '12 soon, so it would be logical to get rid of it now unless he plans on playing it a lot. GS only does the 50% extra once, MAYBE twice a year, so this opportunity doesn't happen often. Besides, that trade in value is only going to get lower with time.

I do what you do, Jeff. I save old games that I wont play, and then I trade them in when they do the 50% extra. That's the absolutely only time I'll do it because I find their prices to be absurd and I don't have time to mess around with eBay or online services like that. Hell, if you have a Power Up card, the 50% extra stacks with that so you'd be getting an extra 60%.

:D is it any good, I was debating on purchasing it to cure my NASCAR til the big one comes out.

:D is it any good, I was debating on purchasing it to cure my NASCAR til the big one comes out. It's surprisingly decent, but I may be giving it a bit of a pass because I was honestly expecting it to be soooooooo horrible and campy. It's definitely arcadey and if you don't mind laughing out loud more than once, you might enjoy it. I've seen cars do flips and land and keep going and other very, very weird stuff. The CPU AI is expectedly horrible (and is full of Rubber-band), though they have managed to give me a run for my money on a few occasions.

If you do get it, don't be misled by the "Pre-Season" races in career. I blew through those so fast I thought the entire game was going to be a joke. The Sprint (season) races are much longer, much harder, etc.

Then again, I haven't been doing myself any favors. I've wrecked with 2 laps to go in each of the last two races and gone from 1st to mid-pack.

Oh, the car paint/customizations options are HORRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIBBBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE, and they also used multiple paint schemes for several drivers (like Tony Stewart and Denny Hamilin), so you see two drivers driving around the track with the same # and practically the same car, but totally different names.

There's no doubt that that is definitely pretty and all, but, really, how is it truthfully any different than what's being shown on the PC right now in cutscenes? The lighting is definitely interesting and the water reflections look great, but I'm just not seeing anything that's truly blowing me away here and I definitely don't see how it's going to be possible for that engine to run on the 360 or the PS3 when games that don't look anywhere close to as good as that have FPS issues or have to have the polygons on far away things reduced to keep it running smooth.

As to some of the previous conversation, I also had an Intellivision. I got it for Christmas in 1981, when I was in 2nd grade (possibly '82/3rd grade, but I think 2nd). The original sports games on it didn't have the option of playing against the CPU, so I played as both teams, lol. I can't tell you how many 1000s of games of baseball I played where I'd pitch with one controller, quickly switch to the other controller to hit, then quickly switch back to field the ball. That was a loooooong time ago, lol.

A mode like that is really cool and helpful. NCAA 11 added in one-button mode, but they missed the boat in terms of announcing/stating how helpful that could be for disabled gamers. It went unannounced in the pre-release, IIRC.

I know there's been a lot of interest recently from a few members about recording game play, thus why I'm putting this here. I bought the Hauppauge HD PVR about a 8 months ago and it's everything I wanted it to be. Absolutely love the thing. However, I've used it a whopping 5 times in that time frame. I simply do not have the free time needed to put together videos, and my main focus was to record game play of online NCAA Football games, a passion that has died with my lack of interest on the series with this generation of consoles, so I have no need for it.

So if anyone is interested, I am selling it. I'm aware I can easily get $180 for it plus shipping on eBay, but eBay is something I'd rather not deal with. So, if you want it, $150 and it's yours shipped. It comes with everything a new one would, including the PVR itself, remote, power cable, and one set of component cables. It doesn't come with the software disc because it never came with mine, but you can download all the necessary(and updated) software from their site for free(I can even provide a link if needed). Everything is in mint condition and has been in a smoke and pet free home. Paypal is fine, just PM me if anyone is interested and we can work out the details. I may fluctuate the price a little lower if needed. I'll ship to anywhere within the continental US.

I'll leave this offer open for a week or so, and then I guess I'll eBay the sucker if no one wants it. Questions - just ask.

Reporting on game sales is increasingly becoming more and more difficult for the media.

Earlier this morning, industry analyst Michael Pachter from Wedbush Morgan Securities sent a note to the media saying independent U.S. games retail tracker NPD has requested that he and his associates refrain from publishing sales data in their monthly reports sent to press members.

"Going forward, we are not permitted to send our NPD results note to anyone associated with the media," Pachter said. "I have been distributing the results in a note to the media, and will not do so going forward." Wow.

Video games is the only entertainment industry that I can think where everything is a big secret. We know a movie is going to be made years before it goes into production and we know an artist is in the studio well before an album drops. We also know much movies make every weekend and we know how many albums sell or how many singles were downloaded every week. Games? We're not allowed to know anything about anything.

Yeah. I was ganged up on by mods at another site (who don't even own a console) for saying it was a smart business decision, it was here to stay, I don't buy used, my $ goes to the people who make the game (not some corporate pawn shop, like Game Stop) etc. I still think it's a great move. Eventually, they should make the disc $10, a key to unlock the disc $45, and an online pass $5. That would take care of Game Stop. Of course, it can't happen until everyone is online.

I don't have a huge problem with it either, but that is because I buy my games new. It may be when they drop to $40 new on Amazon or eBay, but I tend to not buy used very often, though when I do it is on eBay - I cut out the middleman (EB Games/GameStop). I'd rather the initial buyer get more of his money back from me directly.

THQ and EA SPORTS did it at the same time last year with the releases of UFC Undisputed 2010 and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10. Most reports include both companies, but I see some that only mention EAS. IIRC, EA announced TW's Online Pass one month before release while THQ announced it for UFC just eight days before release.

Same here. I will always buy new (like you, maybe a couple months down the road when it's $35-$40), because I have been burned in the past with used games that then wouldn't work right. So I stick to new so I know it will work. Also because I'd rather my money go to those making the game than someplace like Gamestop. The only time I'll buy used, is when it's an older game from from 07 or 08 or something and it's cheaper, easier, and quicker overall just to buy it from one of the local game stores than it is to buy it online and pay shipping and whatnot.

UFC released with an Online Pass, but THQ had purposefully not talked about it until right before release ... or maybe even after. EA took the brunt of the complaints because they announced first -- well, and we're all talking about the complaints from a certain community. Because of the sites that we all frequent, we're more likely to hear EA take the brunt of anything, since they're largely EA-focused sites.

For example, I haven't heard a whisper of complaining that Mass Effect 2 had a freebie code for some DLC that was $15 otherwise. Other than from my friend who tried to borrow the game from me.

morsdraconis

Very interesting and I agree wholeheartedly. I HATE the achievement/trophy/whatever game (it's time consuming and really, just isn't fun) and I usually never bother with it. It's sad that games have gotten to the point where some people only play them to get the achievement/trophy/whatever out of them and not because they are a good game. It really sucks that that is what is starting to trend for games, but, then, in my opinion, too many game companies are around (even still after the economy has broken down like it has) that's it's really started to be quantity over quality with quite a few game companies/franchises (looking at you Call of Duty).

SmoothPancakes

Yeah, while I like whoring out achievements (just because it makes me feel like I actually have completely beaten the entire game), I buy games based on if I want to play them. I don't look at achievements for a game until after I've bought it.

I've never been huge into RTS (Real-Time Strategy) games as I really just don't have the mental facilities to keep track of some much shit happening at once, but, the great thing about Total War is it really comes down to controlling individual aspects of a much larger single army and it doesn't make you juggle all of that with building, upgrading, gathering, and all that shit so it lets you concentrate on the strategy aspects of the game without having to juggle a million things at once.Ehhhhhh ... that's a bit of a stretch, imo. Unless they changed something specifically for Shogun, there's still empire building and all of that involved. Now, all of the empire stuff on the map is turn-based, so you have time to do one thing at a time and take all the time you want. But during a battle, there's still a healthy amount of micro management involved. Make sure you play a demo before you commit to that.

Oh I know there's still micromanaging. But it doesn't involve NEARLY as much as something like Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and games of that ilk do.

True. And there's no resource management, which is probably the biggest difference.

Right. That's the part that annoyed me the most. It became a "who could switch between 30 different units and buildings the quickest" contest instead of any actual strategy.

I don't mind having to do the micromanagement of building things, upgrading, etc in a turn based setup. That doesn't bother me at all. It's having to juggle all of that while still doing combat that I never cared for (plus the fact that harassment early and often was really the only strategy that anyone decent used in Starcraft, Warcraft 3, etc).

I was feeling all hyped up to start a new rpg on the DS. I wanted to play Dragon Quest VI, but as i opened it and looked inside i see....Dragon Quest IX. I already own DQ IX but haven't played yet. I really hope i can find my receipt and get this fixed at GAMESTOP. I guess it's wise to always check your games after u buy them but damn....thought i could trust.

I've bought 3 or 4 used games from Gamestop in the past, only to open it and find no disc at all. I still don't understand how you could forget the main part of the purchase.

But yeah, they'll probably let you swap it out without a receipt. If not, give them a little grief and I'm sure they'll be able to help you right out.

Cause the PSP actually has more than 4 games to play. Wait until Nintendo releases a new Super Mario, Zelda, etc for the 3DS and it'll blow the PSP out of the water like always.

Fancy Pants Adventures came out on PSN yesterday and XBL today. I definitely recommend this $10 title. It's kinda like a Sonic-type game, and the art style is really cool.

NEW YORK (AP) - You've seen her in concert, music videos and in the movies. But a video game maker says the reason you haven't seen Beyonce in a video game - is because she backed out of a project for one - and they are suing the entertainer because of that.

Gate Five LLC has sued Beyonce claiming that she signed in June for a deal to do a game called "Starpower: Beyonce." But before the project came out, the company says Beyonce demanded a new deal - then backed out altogether.

The lawsuit claims Gate Five lost nearly $7 million in investment in the Beyonce deal and estimates it lost more than $100 million in potential profits. And on top of that, some 70 people lost jobs.

Beyonce's publicist didn't immediately respond to inquiries about the lawsuit, which was filed in New York City.

You'd just have to time it right. You always have to have them back by 9PM the next day. So you could do it on a weekend. Rent it Saturday morning, play through it Saturday, play through it Sunday, bring it back that night before 9, boom...only 2 bucks. I'm sure you could do it with Hannah Montana. :D

Well...yeah. :P

I have never tried Redbox, but there is one at a HyVee on the way home from work....so I may give it a shot just to see how efficient, available, and etc everything is. Granted I'm never really a renter, I'm usually a buyer and seller.

I'll make you a deal. If you never play it, I wont either. What's better: a lame Hannah Montana platinum trophy or the ability to make fun of JB, CDJ, and Violator for their Hannah Montana platinum? I think the choice is obvious. ;)
