Probably one of my most anticipated non-sports titles of the year right here.....

The box art was just released the other day:

I don't get too many special editions, but Fallout: New Vegas will be an exception:

Although I no longer do any special editions, this is the game I am most looking forward to this year. I spent countless hours plaing Fallout 3 (two 100+ hour playthoughs). Once I catch up in my queue, I might get another Fallout 3 playthrough done before New Vegas comes out.

Definitely....I played through it most of the way on the PS3, then switched to 360 because the add-ons were only on there for a while, then switched back to PS3 once they implemented trophies. I will probably give it an almost 3rd runthrough myself before New Vegas drops.

I need to finish up Fallout 3 before this one comes out, but not sure I'll have the time or be able to just pick it up from my last save spot. I'd probably be better off just restarting the game and try to fly through (if it's possible to fly through a game like this).

If you don't go on any side missions and exploration, you could in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah that is definitely true. I'm a big fan of non-linear RPG's and games to do that stuff. That is what took me a little longer to beat Red Dead Redemption. If CDJ is trying to fly through, he'll never get through doing the side stuff.

Fallout: New Vegas Fan interview (http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1096751-fallout-new-vegas-fan-interview/)

Some of the interview:

Will perks be available every level, every other level, every third level, etc.?
From OakTable via Bethesda Blog

Josh Sawyer: We have shifted the perk rate to a game setting within the GECK. We currently have it set to one perk every two levels. Internal feedback to it has been mixed, so it's too early to say if we will keep it at this setting.

Will we be able to level past 20? Or 30?
From Justin via Facebook

JS: Our level cap is 30.

Will you get to meet that badass from the teaser trailer?
From @Xenoliath via Twitter

JS: Eventually. :)

From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/10/wayne-newton-felicia-day-lending-voices-to-fallout-new-vegas/) - the voice talent in the game is pretty impressive!

Narrators. Narrators never change. Yes, of course Ron Perlman will be featured in Fallout: New Vegas, but you might be interested in hearing about the cadre of other famous folks lending their voices to the forthcoming Obsidian-developed RPG. Wayne Newton will play radio DJ "Mr. New Vegas," while Matthew Perry will voice "Benny, the head of the Geckos family." Felicia Day is handling the voice of "Veronica, a sarcastic Brotherhood of Steel scribe."

In addition, From Dusk 'Til Dawn favorite Danny Trejo will give his gravitas to "a third playable companion," hilariously named "Raul the Ghoul." Kris Kristofferson, Michael Dorn, William Sadler, John Doman, and Rene Auberjonois make up the rest of the star-studded list.

Been playing this for a while tonight. Good game. If you liked Fallout 3, you'll like this. Nothing revolutionary different from Fallout 3 but there are some improvements.

10-20-2010, 10:44 AM
There are some sweet improvements....I like how magazines are only temporary. And there is a quest in the beginning that takes good use of it. I played about two hours last night...if I wasn't so dead tired (from playing EA MMA til 2:30am), I probably woulda gone a little longer.

Any tips on killing deathclaws?I haven't found a good way to take out more than one at a time. When I had a companion, we were able to kill 1 at a time, but then of course the rest of the pack would be right on top of us. So far I've just avoided the area in reference altogether.

10-24-2010, 10:38 PM
Boy, this game just doesn't do anything for me... It's still a FPSRPG with shitty aspects of both... The story is just as boring as Fallout 3 was... The engine is absolutely terrible - I hate the havok engine so much...

JBHuskers
10-25-2010, 08:14 AM
I ended up playing this for 8 hours straight yesterday...guess there are people that either love or hate it. I definitely love it.

morsdraconis
10-25-2010, 08:56 AM
Well, JB, the first one didn't do anything for me either, but I've been tainted by how horrible Oblivion was (horrendous story, level up system absolutely atrocious, boring character development system that rewarded not leveling up past like level 9, some of the dumbest enemy AI EVER, the list could continue) and Fallout is just Oblivion with guns (with all the same flaws except for a leveling system that just arbitrarily decides that pointing a gun directly at an enemy, crouched, looking through the iron sights is going to cause the shot to go five feet to the right instead).

My main issue with the game: there's absolutely no reason to not go gun wielding mad, kill everything that moves (including "good" guys), and just mow your way through the game. I got so bored with Fallout 3 because of this, I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. The game actively punishes you for doing it differently (and I tried, quite a few times, but when stealth does absolutely nothing, what's the fuckin' point?).

JBHuskers

I guess you're just easily pleased... The only way I could even stomach playing Oblivion was with it HEAVILY modded and even that didn't fix all of the issues.

I took the perk where magazines are twice as effective... what is nice is that you can build up your lockpick or science rating to say 30 and so long as you're carrying the magazine, still be able to unlock average locks. They're helpful so that you can concentrate your character build up on other characteristics for a while.

Yeah lockpick and science, along with guns are the three I'm buliding up the most right now.

With when you fight off that gang of Joe Cobb in Goodsprings, I was looking ALL over town for a magazine to boost my explosives so I could get help from the old man :D but I couldn't and in the end I really didn't need it.

What level are you sitting at right now Tommy? I'm at 7 I think.

I've actually already beaten the game once. Last week was a slow work week so I was playing this and working throughout the day. I logged 37 hours my first playthrough, though some of that was idle while I was switched over to my laptop to work. I didn't do all that much off-the-beaten-path exploring though. I beat the game at level 27 I believe.

I've started a second playthrough, this time as a hardass.

I've put in some serious time in New Vegas already and there seems to be so much more still. I still haven't found a good way to kill deathclaws (I so wish I had a dart gun in this game). I near level 20 and I still try to avoid them if I can (even with two companions).

That being said, it is still a buggy game. Besides the normal bugs that are always seen with that engine, I've managed to crash the game a few times and get some massive slowdown on long play sessions. I just make sure to have a multiple save files, I save manually fairly often, and it autosaves frequently on top of that. None of the issues I've seen have been deal breakers. But then, I'm used to finding work-arounds and I have a general idea of what things have a higher chance of messing up the game.

I loaded up the game yesterday and had to download a patch (around 19mb or so). I've read some reports around the web about the buggy game play. Only thing I've experienced is some small lag issues where the game hiccups for about a sec or two while walking about. Other than that I haven't seen any major bugs like the pics posted online. I don't know what the patch was for or if it even helped iron out some of the bugs. I'll have go read up.

I havent picked up this game in about a week because I have to replay roughly an hour worht of missions due to I got into a serious gunfight with some people that are stronger than I am , and I was trying to pick up some stuff, but mistakenly went out of a door and what did it do...AUTO SAVE, so I cant start at that point because I die instantely due to the sheer amount of bad guys I have to face at one time adn there are more people outside the door pissed at me, I was being sneaky at the moment when I went in and now thye are pissed when I come out. I was pretty pissed that night.

Hardcore really isn't as hardcore as they made it sound... it really doesn't add all that much of difficulty. About the only change is the tedium of keeping track of water & food... that and you either need decent strength or just pick your favorite couple of guns and keep the ammo for them.

Ala gameinformer you would have to play 3.5 times to fully get all the options of the game. I dont see myself doing another playthough once I finish this one, I am going to do another playthough on Mass Effect2 with the DLC, and this game is nowhere near as good IMO. I will continue playing it though with DLC updates, Kinda sucks that I am at a 30 already , Im not even half way through with the main storyline. The good thing is Im running into alot of side quest that I have finished before I even start them, so its like instant XP, or it was like that anyway.

I'm going to get it .... but I am not sure how I will get to play it. I'm stuck on the very end with my save file...I didn't realize once I started the final battle that there was no turning back in terms of travelling, so I'm stuck on the end game :(

But on the same token I don't mind replaying the game again for different endings and etc. The small things that they tuned compared to Fallout 3 made the game even more enjoyable for me. And I really loved Fallout 3.

The post-launch support team at Bethesda and Obsidian is preparing to launch a fix for one of the biggest issues still facing Fallout: New Vegas. No, not its apocalyptic levels of irradiation -- the game-crashing bugs and other performance-wrecking snafus that pepper the game's ruined landscape. According to a recent post on Bethesda's blog, a patch targeting "optimizations and stability improvements" is currently in the certification process for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Though the blog post doesn't go into specifics, it does mention, "we have fixed a great deal of the crashes and lockups that people were experiencing," and later adds, "we scoured the forums and this patch includes weapon balance tweaks and other requested fixes." The update also prepares for an upcoming add-on -- likely the "Honest Hearts" DLC. Bethesda suggests you keep an eye out for the patch "in the next couple of weeks."

I wish they would update the ability to continue after beating the game like they did with Fallout 3.

Honest Hearts takes place in “the unspoiled wilderness” of Zion National Park in Utah, as you go on a expedition there until you see your caravan being ambushed by “a tribal raiding band.”

You’ll find yourself caught up in a war between tribes as well as a conflict between a “New Canaanite missionary and the mysterious Burned Man you try to make it back to the Mojave,” with the outcome depending on the choices you make during the quest.

The next two episodes, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road, launch in June and July respectively for PC, 360 and PS3.

Old World Blues sees you as a lab rat in a science experiment gone wrong, while Lonesome Road will bring the courier’s story to an end as you’re “contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of New Vegas. In his transmission, Ulysses promises the answer as to why, but only if you take one last job –a job that leads you into the depths of the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms.”

Is Dead Money out for PS3? I finished the game on 360, but sold it and got it on PS3 now.

Figured that since I was stuck with the save file I had on 360 and had to start over anyways, I'd switch consoles.

Fairly sure it came out for all three at the same time, though I could be mistaken.
